REVIEW – GYPSY KING (Tin Gypsy, #1) by Devney Perry

SYNOPSIS

The former Tin Gypsy motorcycle club has everyone in Clifton Forge, Montana convinced they’ve locked their clubhouse doors and ripped off their patches. Everyone but Bryce Ryan. There’s more happening at the club’s garage than muscle car restorations and Harley rebuilds. Her instincts are screaming there’s a story—one she’s going to tell.

As the new owner of the small town’s newspaper, Bryce is hungry for more than birth announcements and obituaries. When a woman is brutally killed and all signs point to the Tin Gypsies, Bryce is determined to expose the club and their leader, Kingston “Dash” Slater, as murderers.

Bryce bests Dash match after match, disappointed her rugged and handsome opponent turns out to be an underwhelming adversary. Secrets are exposed. Truths defeat lies. Bryce is poised to win this battle in a landslide.

Then Dash breaks all the rules and tips the scales.

One kiss, and she’s fighting to save more than just her story. She’s fighting to save her heart from the Gypsy King.

We’d only shared a single kiss, but he was right. Given the sparks that crackled when we were in the same room, we’d be incredible together. The chemistry, mixed with our mutual dislike of one other, would ignite like fireworks. We’d probably set the sheets on fire.

I love a good MC story and Devney Perry’s ”Tin Gypsy” series has the potential of being a good one. I found the plot development of ”GYPSY KING” to be a little too slow and to be honest, I didn’t think of this as a true MC book. The club hasn’t been in operation for over a year. They all decided to go legit and put an end to the Tin Gypsies. The story’s main focus was on the ”enemies-to-lovers” romance between the town’s new journalist, Bryce Ryan, and one of the top-ranking members of the retired MC, Dash Slater. I’d give this book a PG rating when it comes to the MC aspect. These men weren’t nearly as crass and dirty as the heroes from other books in this genre, but the murder mystery and the quest to figure out who the true killer was, did end up generating some pulse-pounding suspense towards the end.

The story concludes on a high note but it also left me a little confused with how some of the main characters dealt with the outcome of the intense showdown towards the end. We are left with so many unanswered questions, I felt a bit unsatisfied. Although this sets us up for more to come in the next installments. Overall, I would recommend this to die-hard Devney Perry fans.

REVIEW – TWICE IN A BLUE MOON by Christina Lauren

SYNOPSIS

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners and the “delectable, moving” (Entertainment WeeklyMy Favorite Half-Night Stand comes a modern love story about what happens when your first love reenters your life when you least expect it…

Sam Brandis was Tate Jones’s first: Her first love. Her first everything. Including her first heartbreak.

During a whirlwind two-week vacation abroad, Sam and Tate fell for each other in only the way that first loves do: sharing all of their hopes, dreams, and deepest secrets along the way. Sam was the first, and only, person that Tate—the long-lost daughter of one of the world’s biggest film stars—ever revealed her identity to. So when it became clear her trust was misplaced, her world shattered for good.

Fourteen years later, Tate, now an up-and-coming actress, only thinks about her first love every once in a blue moon. When she steps onto the set of her first big break, he’s the last person she expects to see. Yet here Sam is, the same charming, confident man she knew, but even more alluring than she remembered. Forced to confront the man who betrayed her, Tate must ask herself if it’s possible to do the wrong thing for the right reason… and whether “once in a lifetime” can come around twice.

With Christina Lauren’s signature “beautifully written and remarkably compelling” (Sarah J. Maas, New York Times bestselling author) prose and perfect for fans of Emily Giffin and Jennifer Weiner, Twice in a Blue Moon is an unforgettable and moving novel of young love and second chances.

{Netgalley ARC}

He’s shaking, shaking under my palm at the back of his neck and my other hand pressed to his chest, feeling his heart under there. It’s like a treasure in a fortress, this heart. I wonder what it’s felt, how many times it’s beat painfully enough to make him wonder whether he’s dying. He did that to me.

Christina Lauren are one of my most beloved writing duos. I actually started reading them when their fan fiction version of ”Beautiful Bastard” was out in circulation. Basically, there isn’t anything that I wouldn’t read by them. ”TWICE IN A BLUE MOON” is a heart aching and angsty tale of first love, innocence lost, gut-wrenching betrayal, and second chances.

While on a trip to London with her grandmother, Tate meets the gorgeous and charismatic Sam, who also happens to be on vacation with his grandfather. Tate has never had a connection in her past relationships the way that she does with Sam. Something draws her to him and she finds herself confessing her hopes, fears and deepest secrets to him. She even loses her virginity to him, but soon after, Sam breaks her heart and commits the ultimate betrayal that changes the trajectory of her life. Fourteen years later, Tate is one of Hollywood’s most popular actresses. She’s starting a new project that has Oscar-winning potential. She’s also about to have her world flipped on its axis when the screenwriter turns out to be Sam. Fourteen years have done little to ease the pain of her broken heart. Will this be her chance for closure? Can this be an opportunity to start over for Sam and Tate?

Sam isn’t the only man who has let her down in the past. Her relationship with her Hollywood actor father has been non-existent since her parents divorced when she was a young girl. Her struggles with feelings of abandonment and the deep need for a connection with her father made my heart break for Tate.

REVIEW – HALF TRUTHS by Claire Contreras

SYNOPSIS

You’ve heard of these groups – the secretive ones that only the crème de la crème are invited into, the ones outsiders speculate about for centuries – I’m the second in my family invited to attend, but to them, I’m fresh meat. New blood. New money, too.

They think they’ll elbow past me, that I’m here for their amusement, for them to walk all over, they’ll find out soon enough that I’m not.

I may look like one of them, with my designer bags and clothes straight from the Parisian runways, but I’m not. I’m here for answers, to take revenge for blood spilled on their centuries-old Persian rugs.

I transferred here in search for answers about what happened to my older brother, who hightailed out of here, and my friend who seemingly disappeared into thin air. I certainly wasn’t here for the attention of the star hockey player, regardless of how much he willed my eyes his way. I wasn’t here for his scrutiny or his judgment or to read into his mysterious aura. I was here for the society, because only they held the answers I needed. That was, until I found out that in order to get those answers, I needed to to go through him. He’s saying if I want in, I have to play by their rules, follow their lead.

It’s a game I’m willing to play.

I may be the second person I know of to be invited into their society, but I’ll be the first to make it out intact.

”HALF TRUTHS” is a nail-biting suspenseful mystery surrounding secret elite societies and a missing college coed. The story starts slowly and I wasn’t particularly in love with the Hero and Heroine, but as time went on and the plot started to get interesting, I found this to be a real page-turner. REVIEW – A LIE FOR A LIE (All In, #1) by Helena Hunting

SYNOPSIS

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Pucked series comes a romantic comedy about instant attraction, second chances, and not-so-little white lies.

Sometimes I need an escape from the demands, the puck bunnies, and the notoriety that come with being an NHL team captain. I just want to be a normal guy for a few weeks. So when I leave Chicago for some peace and quiet, the last thing I expect is for a gorgeous woman to literally fall into my lap on a flight to Alaska. Even better, she has absolutely no idea who I am.

Lainey is the perfect escape from my life. My plan for seclusion becomes a monthlong sex fest punctuated with domestic bliss. But it ends just as abruptly as it began. When I’m called away on a family emergency, I realize too late that I have no way to contact Lainey.

A year later, a chance encounter throws Lainey and me together again. But I still have a lie hanging over my head, and Lainey’s keeping secrets of her own. With more than lust at stake, the truth may be our game changer.

I caress the edge of her jaw and sweep my thumb along the contour of her bottom lip, enjoying the anticipation before I drop my head and touch my lips to hers. A million memories come flooding back at her soft whimper and the bite of her nails against the back of my neck. And just like every single other kiss that’s had the intention of becoming more—and even the ones that didn’t—it starts out sweet. She tastes the same, feels the same—but better. She feels like mine and home and love.

Helena Hunting is the Queen of sports romances! I am incredibly excited about her new ”All In” series. Not only was ”A LIE FOR A LIE” filled with angst that hurt so good and heart-racing steaminess, it also reunites us with most of the unforgettable characters from the ”PUCKED” series. If the rest of the books are as good as this one, I have no doubt this spin-off series focusing on the newly formed NHL team in Seattle is going to become a fast fan favorite. I guarantee that readers are going to fall pretty darn hard for ROOK “RJ” Bowman! If you’re as crazy about romances with sexy Hockey players as I am, you are in for a delicious treat with RJ and Lainey’s second chance love story. I devoured this book and wish that I could go back to the beginning and read it all over again. It was just that good!!

REVIEW – GETTING PLAYED (Getting Some, #2) by Emma Chase

SYNOPSIS

Dean Walker is all about keeping life simple. He’s effortlessly talented and intelligent—spending his summers playing drums in the local band and the rest of the year teaching high school in the same Jersey town where he grew up. He likes his love-life simple too, enjoying the commitment-free hook-ups his good looks and sexy charm have always made oh-so easy.

Then he meets Lainey Burrows. And his simple, easy life gets turned upside down.

***

One wild one-night stand was all it was ever supposed to be, so Lainey is shocked when she discovers that her sizzling summer fling is also her son’s new math teacher. But that’s nothing compared to the most unexpected twist of all—their hot hook-up left Lainey knocked-up, and now they’re about to become parents. Together.

What ensues is an addictive, insatiable, sweet and tender romance that won’t be simple, but it will be more than worth the fight.

A stand-alone, contemporary romance.

She sighs into my mouth when I press my lips against hers, stroking the hot cavern of her mouth with my tongue. And there’s a blissful relief in having her in my arms again—after all this time—feeling her against me. Good and right and mine. It’s a perfect space of bliss and pleasure carved out for just the two of us that I never ever want to leave.

This is the reason why Emma Chase has remained one of my most beloved authors for the past several years. She is by far, one of the best romantic comedy authors out there today. The ”Getting Some” series is yet another winner to add to her illustrious book of works. I can’t think of one thing about this latest book that I didn’t love. It has a terrific plot, an amazing Hero and Heroine with combustible chemistry and some unforgettable secondary characters. I could not get enough of Dean and Lainey’s story.

Dean and Lainey meet one sultry summer night at a bar down at the Jersey shore. Crazy sparks generate between them and they end up sharing a night filled with mind-blowing sex that neither will soon forget. Although it’s been months since they’ve seen each other, neither has been able to forget that incredible night and soon their paths will unexpectedly cross again when Lainey and her teenaged son move to the town that Dean calls home. Not only are they living in Lakeside, but Lainey’s son also happens to be the new student in the high school AP Calculus class that Dean teaches. When they finally come face to face, Dean learns that Lainey has a big surprise to share with him. She’s three months pregnant with his baby.

Dean has been living the carefree life of a bachelor up until now and has never had the urge to settle down, but there’s something special about Lainey that inexplicably draws him to her. Dean is starting to question whether or not he wants to remain the sexy Rock God who jumps from one woman’s bed to the next. When he tries to play the role of the faithful and monogamous boyfriend will former temptation cause him to lose the beautiful family that he was slowly starting to build with Lainey?

REVIEW – DOWN TOO DEEP (Dirty Deeds, #4) by J. Daniels

SYNOPSIS

Fans of Christina Lauren and Colleen Hoover will love this sexy and emotional fourth book in the New York Times bestselling Dirty Deeds series.

Following the sudden death of his wife, Nathan Bell has spent nearly two years burying himself in work and neglecting his biggest responsibility: his daughter. Overcome with guilt, he wants to connect with little Marley, but he doesn’t know how to do it alone. And then Jenna Savage throws him a lifeline.

A single mom of twins, Jenna is more than capable of taking care of Nate’s adorable two-year-old, and wants to help Nathan however she can. Soon, attachments are made, forcing Jenna and her kids into new territory. And the closer everyone becomes, the more right it feels.

Falling in love forces Nathan to face his biggest fear, and when hearts, both big and little, are on the line, the only thing scarier than needing someone is losing them all.

My heart had become its own protector. It let me love, but it held me back. It hoped, just like it always did, but it wouldn’t believe anymore in the certainty of what I was feeling. With every wish it allowed, it whispered caution behind it. Be careful. You know how I can break.

J. Daniels has finished off the ”Dirty Deeds” series with a story that will have your hearts soaring and your temperatures rising. I have been anxiously anticipating the release of Nate’s book and I can honestly say it was well worth the wait!! I am so torn between Stitch and Nate as my favorite Heroes from this series. I guess I do have a soft spot for romances with single fathers. Nate’s relationship with his little girl, Marley, had me swooning hard over him. Jenna was his true soul mate. I loved how the two were so perfect for each other and that their children played crucial roles in the plot development.

Nate’s wife died nearly two years ago and since that time he has thrown himself into running his restaurant, Whitecaps. Leaving his baby daughter with his parents to watch over, who at first were accommodating to help Nate through his grief but now his parents no longer want to play the role of permanent babysitters. Nate feels like his world has been turned upside down. He has no idea how to care for Marley as he never spent enough time with her to form that special father/daughter bond. He runs into Jenna at his restaurant when she stops by with her twins to have a bite to eat. She immediately becomes smitten with Nate’s cute little girl and offers to help him out by babysitting her while he’s at work.

Jenna not only helps Nate get to know Marley, but she also ends up stirring up feelings he never thought he would be capable of again! These two had serious chemistry, but they also formed almost an instant emotional connection through their easy friendship and mutual adoration over their children. Jenna has never been with a man who was worthy enough of her and her twins. Nate is the first man to show her true affection and who also genuinely cares for Oliver and Olivia. She’s falling fast for him, but Nate is still haunted by his wife’s death and carries so much guilt over it deep inside him. Can he let go of the past or will it destroy his chances at a beautiful future?

REVIEW – THE PLAY (Briar U, #3) by Elle Kennedy

SYNOPSIS

A brand-new standalone novel in the New York Times bestselling Briar U series!

What I learned after last year’s distractions cost my hockey team our entire season? No more screwing up. No more screwing, period. As the new team captain, I need a new philosophy: hockey and school now, women later. Which means that I, Hunter Davenport, am officially going celibate…no matter how hard that makes things.

But there’s nothing in the rulebook that says I can’t be friends with a woman. And I won’t lie—my new classmate Demi Davis is one cool chick. Her smart mouth is hot as hell, and so is the rest of her, but the fact that she’s got a boyfriend eliminates the temptation to touch her.

Except three months into our friendship, Demi is single and looking for a rebound.

And she’s making a play for me.

Avoiding her is impossible. We’re paired up on a yearlong school project, but I’m confident I can resist her. We’d never work, anyway. Our backgrounds are too different, our goals aren’t aligned, and her parents hate my guts.

Hooking up is a very bad idea. Now I just have to convince my body—and my heart.

The moment our mouths make contact, a hot shiver rolls through me and settles between my legs. My dick is thick, heavy against my thigh. Motherfucker. This kiss is everything.

”THE PLAY” is by far my favorite installment of the Briar U series. Since the first book, I have been anxiously waiting to get my hands on Hunter Davenport’s story. I knew that it was not going to disappoint, and I’m happy to confirm it was well worth the wait! This book was everything I love in a good sports romantic comedy. It was funny, sexy, and had main characters who were lovable and had super hot chemistry.

Hunter has placed himself on hiatus from sex. He’s now the captain of Briar U’s hockey team and there is no way he wants his man whorish tendencies of the past to mess with the team’s chance at making it to the championship. It hasn’t been easy but he’s determined to make hockey his top priority. Hunter ends up becoming good friends with Demi Davis, his beautiful partner in his abnormal psych class. These two have easy and hilarious banter. While Hunter may be attracted to Demi, the fact that she has a boyfriend makes her easily off-limits to him. But once Demi’s relationship ends with her no-good cheating ex, the sexual tension that’s been building between them becomes nearly impossible to ignore.

To Demi’s utter frustration, Hunter is holding firm to his vow of celibacy. She’s tried to seduce him into becoming her sexy rebound but it seems she can’t break through his iron will, until one night Hunter is no longer able to control his need for Demi. As these two embark on a sexy friends with benefits relationship, old insecurities and fears start to weave their way up front and center. Is this only the best sex of their lives or could there be potential for something far greater?

Thea Quinn has no idea what she is. All she knows is that her abilities have been a plague upon her life since she was a child. After years of suffering at the hands of a megalomaniac, Thea escaped and has been on the run ever since.

The leadership and protection of his pack are of the utmost importance to Conall MacLennan, Alpha and Chief of Clan MacLennan, the last werewolf pack in Scotland. Which is why watching his sister slowly die of a lycanthropic disease is emotional torture. When Conall is approached by a businessman who offers a cure for his sister in exchange for the use of Conall’s rare tracking ability, Conall forges an unbreakable contract with him. He has to find and retrieve the key to the cure: dangerous murderer, Thea Quinn.

Thea’s attempts to evade the ruthless werewolf are not only thwarted by the Alpha, but by outside dangers. With no choice but to rely on one another for survival, truths are revealed, intensifying a passionate connection they both fight to resist. At war with themselves and each other, Conall and Thea’s journey to Scotland forces them to face a heartrending choice between love and betrayal.

Conall wanted to touch Thea. Everywhere. And he wanted her to touch him. It was a haze that made his heart race, his breathing deepen, and everything else in his world fade out. All he was left with was want. For this woman.

INCREDIBLE!! I have always been a huge fan of Samantha Young and have read a bunch of her traditional adult contemporary romances, but, WOW, she has proven she can also write a spellbinding and all-consuming paranormal romance as well. I was completely hooked from the start. It’s been a while since I’ve read this genre and I’m realizing it’s time to dive back in. ”WAR OF HEARTS” is an epic story filled with intrigue and incredible main characters whose romance will steal readers’ hearts and souls!

Conall is the Alpha of Clan MacLennan, the most powerful wolfpack in all of Scotland, if not the world. He is a man of honor who loves his family fiercely and will do whatever he can to protect them and his pack. Conall’s younger sister is slowly dying from an incurable illness. It is for this reason alone that he agrees to track a woman on the run for a wealthy American businessman. Normally humans avoid trespassing on his compound and Ashforth’s arrogance rubs Conall the wrong way, but when Ashforth tells him that the woman’s blood can cure his sister Callie, he proves that he has a bargaining chip that Conall can’t resist. Ashforth seeks his assistance because it is a well-known fact amongst werewolves and vampires, that Conall has a gift for tracking anything and anyone.

Thea Quinn is the woman Ashforth is desperate to find. He describes her as being a thief and a ruthless killer to bias Conall’s opinion of her, but in reality, Thea is the victim of Ashforth’s diabolical desires. She lived with Ashforth and his family for years after her parents died in a tragic plane crash. It wasn’t until that crash that Ashforth found out that Thea wasn’t human. He physically tortured her for many years in order to learn what she was. She may be living on the run and in squalor, but she would rather be homeless than end up back on Ashforth’s compound. Thea could use her powers to live the life of luxury and yet she never abuses them because her parents always told her to use her powers for good and not for self-gain.

When Conall tracks down Thea, they play a game of cat and mouse. Conall learns quickly that Thea is not a weak damsel in distress. She has no problem taking him down with ease. They both feel an intense connection to each other and their passion will consume them. When Conall learns the truth about Thea’s past with Ashforth, his heart will be deeply conflicted. Can he sacrifice the life of the woman he is falling for to save the life of his sister? Or can Conall and Thea work together to solve the mystery of what type of immortal being she is, which may end up being the one solution to all of their problems?

”THE GUY IN THE MIDDLE” by KATE STEWART
*****FIVE STARS*****

This was my TOP FAVORITE out of all of the novellas in the ”Team Player 2” anthology. I am not just saying that because I consider Kate Stewart to be one of the most amazing women that I am lucky enough to call a friend. Harper and Lance’s story is full of laughs, steam, and some serious gut-churning angst. If you enjoy a good forbidden romance, you will LOVE this one.

We met Lance in ”The Guy on The Right”. He barely made an impression on me in that book because he was the roomie who tended to be a recluse. Well, we find out why he kept to himself and was sort of a mystery to his fellow roomies and teammates. Lance was having a hot and heavy romance with the coach’s daughter, Harper Elliot. Harper has been burned badly in the past and her father is overly protective because of that. She’s the girl with the killer body but forgettable face according to most of the guys on the football team, but to Lance, she’s the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen.

Harper and Lance try to keep things discreet and also casual since their plans for the future will take them in opposite directions. Their physical chemistry turns into something deep and meaningful between them and when their relationship becomes public knowledge, they’ll not only face the wrath of Coach Elliott, the majority of the Texas Grand football team will be pissed off at them as well. The story takes an angsty turn, and we’re left wondering what is to become of the couple. By no means, can Harper and Lance’s journey be told in a novella. These two deserve a full-length novel and that’s what seems to be in store for them. I only hope I can hold out until the book is released!!! Kate’s books normally start off as a slow build, and I have to be honest, I am not a fan of the “slow burn” but I know she’s a “wait for it” type of author and that I just have to be patient because she’ll never let me down. This story was not in the least bit slow. It moved at just the right pace and never once lost my attention. I DEVOURED this one!!! SO GOOD!!

”THE TEACHING HOURS” by SARA NEY
*****3.5 STARS*****

I think I may be one of the few fans of Sara Ney who isn’t over the moon in love with her ”Douchebag” series. My favorite is the ”Jock Hard” series. It’s been a while since I read “The Coaching Hours” and the Hero, Rex, is one of the secondary characters from that book. He’s guilty of acting like a complete douche which led to his expulsion from the Wrestling team. Now he’s back on campus working at the athletic building and trying to find romance on the college’s “LoveU” app. He meets Hannah, who was the BFF of the Heroine in “The Lying Hours”. Harper tends to scare guys off with her abrasive personality and is in desperate need of a Love coach to teach her how to attract and keep the attention of the opposite sex. Rex generously offers to help her out but he’s hoping to be the one to get the girl. I thought this was just an “ok” story. There was definite “insta-love” with this couple and I never really felt a connection to either of them.

I think this is the first sports romance I’ve read about a pro-tennis player. I truly believe that Emma Scott is one of the greats. She doesn’t write about the norm and I love her for that. I will be a true blue fan for life. In ”LOVE GAME” we have a pro-tennis player who has the rep of being the hot-headed bad boy. Kai Solomon could be one of the greats but he’s his own worst enemy and his agent is desperately trying to find a way to get Kai to focus on his game and to get him back in the good graces of tennis fans.

He stumbles upon Daisy, a stunningly beautiful Reiki therapist in training. He knows that she could be the one person that could get through Kai’s defenses. She is apprehensive about accepting the job offer to be Kai’s Reiki therapist but the salary is too good to pass up. Daisy is instantly attracted to Kai, but she also senses that he is going through some deep inner turmoil. She’s been through a traumatic experience that has left her with a severe case of PTSD and she can’t go anywhere without her beautiful Siberian husky, Keanu, who is her service dog. She sees a kindred spirit in Kai. She easily soothes the savage beast in him. The Australian Open is a few weeks away, will Daisy be able to calm the demons that haunt Kai. Will he be able to do the same for Daisy?

”HOLT’s STORY” by MEGHAN QUINN
*****4.5 STARS*****

This was such a treat! I finished ”THE DUGOUT” about a week ago and now I got the chance to spend more time with Carson and Knox. I didn’t know just how hilarious Holt could be. He has the funniest sense of humor and is quick with the comebacks. He and Harmony have intense chemistry and no matter how hard Harmony tries to despise Holt, she is no match for his determination nor is she immune to his charming ways. We only get a taste of what’s to come for these two. I can’t wait to see what Meghan has planned for Holt and Harper. I can tell you this, it’s sure to make you laugh, leave you breathless, and tear your heart apart with unbearable angst if it follows the path of the first two books!

”DEAR AVA” by ILSA MADDEN-MILLS
*****FOUR STARS*****

I love Ilsa’s college sports romances and thought that’s what we were going to get with ”DEAR AVA” but this story had a dark undertone. This might not have been my favorite by Ilsa Madden-Mills but it may be a winner for others. At a house party nearly a year ago, Ava was drugged and then raped. She has no recollection of what happened to her that night or who the rapist was and now she’s returned to her high school with a tainted reputation. Most of the kids in school don’t believe her but there is someone who does and he’s been leaving her poems in her locker. He may have also had something to do with her tuition and dorm costs being paid in full.

Knox Grayson comes from a life of wealth and privilege. He is the “IT” boy in school. He’s adored by almost all of the girls except for the one he’s inexplicably drawn to. The girl who hasn’t let life’s unrelenting challenges break her. He’s determined to find out who raped Ava. Will he before the rapist strikes again?

REVIEW – PERFECTLY ADEQUATE by Jewel E. Ann

SYNOPSIS

Dr. Elijah Hawkins needs … something.

After his wife jumps headfirst into a midlife crisis, he’s left with his young son, Roman, and a lot of unanswered questions.

That something turns out to be a someone—Dorothy Mayhem, nursing student, patient transporter, reckless driver, and emu owner.

Dorothy studies humans, the neurotypical kind, through books and television. Then she emulates their behavioral patterns to fit in with her peers.

But nothing can prepare her for Dr. Elijah Hawkins.

Single dad.
Brilliant pediatric oncologist.
And the sexiest doctor at the hospital.

When his failed attempts at asking her out turn into a string of playdates with his son, Dorothy finds herself unexpectedly enamored with the boy and his father.

And that’s a problem, a huge one, because Elijah’s ex-wife is a famous plastic surgeon—and Dorothy’s idol.

Perfectly Adequate is a beautiful, hilarious, and heart-felt journey along the “human” spectrum.

Everything about her paralyzes me. Only my eyes can move, and they can’t decide where to land. She is fucking beautiful.

Dorothy doesn’t attract me with her attempts to mimic neurotypical people. She captures little pieces of my heart with her whispered honesty. I feel it, just in a different way.

OUTSTANDING!! That’s my one word to describe Jewel E. Ann’s latest book, ”Perfectly Adequate”. Never for one second did I doubt that I wouldn’t fall absolutely head over heels in love with this story. Jewel is by far one of the most gifted authors out there today and one of the sweetest as well. I ADORE her!

So, the first thing I loved about this book was the cover. It’s cute and quirky. Secondly, the heroine, Dorothy, has ASD – Asperger’s. I love romances where one of the main characters deal with struggles that most of us don’t have to manage to get through life with. The love that forms between the Hero and Heroine is deeper and that much more meaningful. It satisfies my romantic sappy heart!

Dr. Eli Hawkins is considered a god amongst the female staff in the hospital where he is a pediatric oncologist. His wife of 15 years decided that she was no longer happy with the life they built together and filed for divorce soon after their son’s second birthday. It’s been a year and he’s still having a hard time moving on until he runs into Dorothy Mayhem, the beautiful patient transporter with striking blue eyes. Eli is almost instantly smitten and Dorothy has always considered him to be one of the hottest doctors at the hospital, but she also has a huge girl crush on his ex who also happens to be a doctor at the same hospital.

I now have another Hero created by Jewel that has stolen my heart. Eli is one of a kind. Dorothy’s ASD does not turn him off in the least. He tries to educate himself on the subject so that he can navigate a relationship with her and while at times Dorothy’s stubbornness was frustrating, down to her core, she truly is a beautiful soul. Dorothy doesn’t have the ability to read situations that involve emotions. She tends to miss cues and it may come off as insensitive but Eli learns it’s not something she does intentionally. Dorothy can be driven by the desire to satisfy her own needs, but ultimately there isn’t anything she wouldn’t sacrifice to ensure Eli and Roman’s happiness. She believes her differences will be a burden to Eli that he will one day come to resent her for.

Can Eli convince her that she’s the perfect woman for him and that there isn’t anyone else who will bring happiness into his life?
