*****Patty’s Review*****

”THE GUY IN THE MIDDLE” by KATE STEWART
*****FIVE STARS*****

This was my TOP FAVORITE out of all of the novellas in the ”Team Player 2” anthology. I am not just saying that because I consider Kate Stewart to be one of the most amazing women that I am lucky enough to call a friend. Harper and Lance’s story is full of laughs, steam, and some serious gut-churning angst. If you enjoy a good forbidden romance, you will LOVE this one.

We met Lance in ”The Guy on The Right”. He barely made an impression on me in that book because he was the roomie who tended to be a recluse. Well, we find out why he kept to himself and was sort of a mystery to his fellow roomies and teammates. Lance was having a hot and heavy romance with the coach’s daughter, Harper Elliot. Harper has been burned badly in the past and her father is overly protective because of that. She’s the girl with the killer body but forgettable face according to most of the guys on the football team, but to Lance, she’s the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen.

Harper and Lance try to keep things discreet and also casual since their plans for the future will take them in opposite directions. Their physical chemistry turns into something deep and meaningful between them and when their relationship becomes public knowledge, they’ll not only face the wrath of Coach Elliott, the majority of the Texas Grand football team will be pissed off at them as well. The story takes an angsty turn, and we’re left wondering what is to become of the couple. By no means, can Harper and Lance’s journey be told in a novella. These two deserve a full-length novel and that’s what seems to be in store for them. I only hope I can hold out until the book is released!!! Kate’s books normally start off as a slow build, and I have to be honest, I am not a fan of the “slow burn” but I know she’s a “wait for it” type of author and that I just have to be patient because she’ll never let me down. This story was not in the least bit slow. It moved at just the right pace and never once lost my attention. I DEVOURED this one!!! SO GOOD!!

”THE TEACHING HOURS” by SARA NEY
*****3.5 STARS*****

I think I may be one of the few fans of Sara Ney who isn’t over the moon in love with her ”Douchebag” series. My favorite is the ”Jock Hard” series. It’s been a while since I read “The Coaching Hours” and the Hero, Rex, is one of the secondary characters from that book. He’s guilty of acting like a complete douche which led to his expulsion from the Wrestling team. Now he’s back on campus working at the athletic building and trying to find romance on the college’s “LoveU” app. He meets Hannah, who was the BFF of the Heroine in “The Lying Hours”. Harper tends to scare guys off with her abrasive personality and is in desperate need of a Love coach to teach her how to attract and keep the attention of the opposite sex. Rex generously offers to help her out but he’s hoping to be the one to get the girl. I thought this was just an “ok” story. There was definite “insta-love” with this couple and I never really felt a connection to either of them.

”LOVE GAME” by EMMA SCOTT
*****4.5 STARS*****

I think this is the first sports romance I’ve read about a pro-tennis player. I truly believe that Emma Scott is one of the greats. She doesn’t write about the norm and I love her for that. I will be a true blue fan for life. In ”LOVE GAME” we have a pro-tennis player who has the rep of being the hot-headed bad boy. Kai Solomon could be one of the greats but he’s his own worst enemy and his agent is desperately trying to find a way to get Kai to focus on his game and to get him back in the good graces of tennis fans.

He stumbles upon Daisy, a stunningly beautiful Reiki therapist in training. He knows that she could be the one person that could get through Kai’s defenses. She is apprehensive about accepting the job offer to be Kai’s Reiki therapist but the salary is too good to pass up. Daisy is instantly attracted to Kai, but she also senses that he is going through some deep inner turmoil. She’s been through a traumatic experience that has left her with a severe case of PTSD and she can’t go anywhere without her beautiful Siberian husky, Keanu, who is her service dog. She sees a kindred spirit in Kai. She easily soothes the savage beast in him. The Australian Open is a few weeks away, will Daisy be able to calm the demons that haunt Kai. Will he be able to do the same for Daisy?

”HOLT’s STORY” by MEGHAN QUINN
*****4.5 STARS*****

This was such a treat! I finished ”THE DUGOUT” about a week ago and now I got the chance to spend more time with Carson and Knox. I didn’t know just how hilarious Holt could be. He has the funniest sense of humor and is quick with the comebacks. He and Harmony have intense chemistry and no matter how hard Harmony tries to despise Holt, she is no match for his determination nor is she immune to his charming ways. We only get a taste of what’s to come for these two. I can’t wait to see what Meghan has planned for Holt and Harper. I can tell you this, it’s sure to make you laugh, leave you breathless, and tear your heart apart with unbearable angst if it follows the path of the first two books!

”DEAR AVA” by ILSA MADDEN-MILLS
*****FOUR STARS*****

I love Ilsa’s college sports romances and thought that’s what we were going to get with ”DEAR AVA” but this story had a dark undertone. This might not have been my favorite by Ilsa Madden-Mills but it may be a winner for others. At a house party nearly a year ago, Ava was drugged and then raped. She has no recollection of what happened to her that night or who the rapist was and now she’s returned to her high school with a tainted reputation. Most of the kids in school don’t believe her but there is someone who does and he’s been leaving her poems in her locker. He may have also had something to do with her tuition and dorm costs being paid in full.

Knox Grayson comes from a life of wealth and privilege. He is the “IT” boy in school. He’s adored by almost all of the girls except for the one he’s inexplicably drawn to. The girl who hasn’t let life’s unrelenting challenges break her. He’s determined to find out who raped Ava. Will he before the rapist strikes again?
