REVIEW – SOMETHING SO PERFECT (Something So, #2) by Natasha Madison

SYNOPSIS

Matthew

Drafted first round pick when I was seventeen, playing first line at eighteen, branded NHL’s bad boy at nineteen. At twenty-three I was cut from the team and living back home with my parents. A knock on the door brought an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. All I had to do was prove I learned from my mistakes, so no way would I fall for a chick with a pouty mouth even if I wanted to spend all day devouring it.

Karrie

When my father gave me a job, I had no idea it would be to babysit some washed up NHL player. He wanted me to be his chaperone, his overpaid babysitter. I thought it was a joke. Then I met him, Matthew Grant. I wasn’t prepared for this particular bad boy. He’s not only hot but he’s arrogant and kinda sweet in a ‘you make me crazy’ kind of way.
Basically now that he’s finished screwing up his life, he’s decided to turn mine upside down.

She’s the first thing I’ve ever wanted more than hockey.

He’s the guy I know I should stay away from.

But what if this thing that started out so wrong turns into something so perfect?

4 Delicious Stars****

A sexy and ultra-Alpha hockey player, a strong and sassy heroine, plus the hilarious banter between these characters make this story totally delectable. You are not wanna miss Something So Perfect.

Matthew Grant was perhaps given too much, too soon, and now he has a reputation as the bad boy of hockey. He messed up enough times that he was let go from his team, but his incredible talent doesn’t go unnoticed for long, and another team wants to hire him but not without a few conditions.

Karrie has had everything she could possibly want. But now that she’s graduated from college with honors, she wants to start her career on her own merits, but her father has other plans. Her dad has recently hired Matthew Grant to play for their team but he needs someone to watch out for him so he doesn’t get into any trouble, and that pesky job has fallen into Karrie’s hands. She’s not too thrilled to accept her father’s proposition, but she recognizes the big opportunity it represents for her future career.

Matthew is not too happy to have somebody breathing down his neck, but when he meets Karrie; a gorgeous girl who’s not willing to put up with his BS he is smitten.

Matthew and Karrie have an explosive relationship, they are both very strong characters. Matthew is a sexy overbearing caveman and Karrie is sassy, smart and very strong willed. Every aspect of their relationship is highly passionate, making this book super entertaining.

The media won’t make it easy on Matthew to get his second chance but lucky for him he has the most amazing, and supportive family and team behind him.

If you like intense romance and sports themed stories, this is the book for you. You will laugh and swoon in the arms of a very delicious alpha male.

*****FIVE STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

The block trembled and broke apart inside his chest. He lowered his forehead to hers, and tears began slipping from his eyes as he finally cried since he’d heard the first love of his life had left him forever. She stroked his hair and kissed his cheeks and held him through his tears. And he knew then that Sydney was part of his soul and had changed him forever.

This was hands down, my FAVORITE in the ”Billionaire Builders” series! Throughout each installment, we were given tiny pieces to Tristan and Sydney’s story. It was obvious that they shared a past that was filled with heartbreak and regret which later turned into intense resentment on both sides and out of all the couples in this series, these two intrigued me the most. Tristan was my favorite Pierce brother! This story was packed with angst, smoldering steam, and utter heartbreak which at times had tears streaming down my face. Jennifer Probst has written another sensational series! If you love the ”friends to lovers/second chance romance/enemies to lovers” tropes, then you will definitely want to check this one out!

Tristan Pierce has always been the level-headed brother who keeps his emotions well hidden from the outside world. To most people, he may seem cold but a few who are close to him know that his strained relationship with his father and then the devastating loss of his mother had affected Tristan deeply. The one person aside from his mother who was closest to him was Sydney Greene. Sydney has known the Pierce family since she was a young girl. She’d been in love with Tristan at the tender age of eight. Since there was a huge age gap between them, Tristan only saw her as a little sister, but all that changed when she turned eighteen.

Sydney was raised by her grandparents after her parents abandoned her. She spent most of her childhood years hanging out with the Pierce brothers and their parents considered her to be the daughter they never had. She adored the family but Tristan had always captured her heart. When he finally notices her, they carry on with a secret affair because they knew if Tristan’s family ever found out there would be hell to pay since they were so protective over Sydney. But everything falls apart when Tristan’s mother dies a year later. Overcome with grief, and fed up with his father’s constant criticism, Tristan announces that he is moving to New York City. He asks Sydney to come with him but she was only nineteen and her whole life revolved around her job at Pierce Family construction. But mostly it was the fact that Tristan had never told Sydney that he loved her. She was afraid to run off with him because although he was the love of her life she doubted she meant the same to him.

When Tristan comes back home six years later there is obvious hostility brewing between the two. So much that was left unsaid and misunderstandings kept their true feelings buried deep in mutual heartbreak. A huge project that could land the Pierce brothers a contract with a very successful real estate businessman from NYC ends up forcing Tristan and Sydney to work closely together. Although they may seem to despise each other, deep down there’s a burning lust that neither of them was going to be able to contain and when they give in to their desires it’s like a dam breaks and it becomes impossible to keep their hands off each other. Tristan lost Sydney once but he is determined to claim her and nothing is going to get in his way – or so he thought.

A painful secret is revealed and it just might be something the couple will never be able to recover from. Hearts will be shattered and lives will be forever changed.

ALL OR NOTHING AT ALL is currently available! It can be read as a standalone but I would recommend that you read the previous books because this happens to be one of Jennifer Probst’s best! Her fans are sure to enjoy it!

*****Mel’s Review*****

4.5 She’d Always Been His Stars!

Sydney Greene is a single mother to a beautiful six year old little girl. She’s worked at Pierce Brothers Construction in some capacity since she was sixteen. She practically grew up in the Pierce household, & they are like family. She’d proven herself at the office & she wanted more. Tired of being in the background she intended to fight for and get everything she deserved & had worked for all these years.

Sydney built her own life & now her focus was work & her daughter. She had no time for thinking of the past, but her ex made that difficult. Tristan Pierce, the middle Pierce brother had owned her heart since she was about eight years old. She’d always followed him around as kids and been treated like a little sister. Always hoping one day he’d finally see her. She saw how special he was. He was the kind, laid back, reserved one who was often closed off. She’d spent her entire youth trying to get him to notice her until one day he finally did. She’d adored him until he broke her heart & left her. He’d been struggling to find his place & clashing with his family. He wanted to renovate & flip houses, and he moved to New York & left Sydney behind in Harrington. He left the family business to follow his own path. Now he’s been back home about a year, & Sydney is having trouble being around him & pretending to be unaffected.

-She’d tumbled into love with him at only eight years old, and he’d been haunting her ever since.

-He’d always had a way of looking at her as if he owned her.

-Whether he was closing a deal or stripping off his clothes, he’d always held an innate animal grace that buckled her knees.

-His analytical mind was as droolworthy as his body. Hard, supple muscles balanced with a beautiful grace most men could never pull off.

-His thoroughness was legendary. Tristan was able to see a problem at all angles and attack it with a single-minded intensity and level of control. He’d once brought that same talent to the bedroom, concentrating on wringing pleasure from her body with a thoroughness that ruined her for all other lovers.

Tristan has been back home about a year & has tried avoiding Sydney, but he still isn’t over her. She’s always been important to him, & he never forgot her. She’s pure temptation for him. Their physical connection was always explosive, & he’s having trouble pushing aside his attraction & feelings. He needs to stick to business since they will be working together, but he can’t help the way he craves her. She’s no longer the shy, uncertain girl, but a confident, self assured woman. Her ambition turns him on. She was in control & it was sexy as hell watching her take charge. They still shared such a strong connection & chemistry. They try fighting their feelings, but their is still so much between them. Tristan decides he wants Sydney back & he’s determined to get a second chance. He will prove she can trust him again & that he isn’t going anywhere. He knows they belong together & is prepared to fight for her.

I really loved this book & this whole series. All the Pierce brothers have the biggest hearts and are super swoony and hot!!! Tristan’s book is packed full of emotion. Secrets. Lies, love, & angst combine for an incredible story!

-“I just want you. I want a second chance at your heart.”

-She was the only one who’d stripped down all of his layers and truly saw the man he was. And she’d loved him anyway.

-It was as if she held the secret part of his heart after all these years and given it back.

*****FIVE ++++++++++++ STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Authors}

INCREDIBLE!!!!!!

Pulling away, he regards me with a curious stare. It’s as though he’s searching for something in my eyes. Hesitation, maybe? Regret? Well, he won’t find those things. I’m consumed by him. I’ve never felt so high and wanted and revered in my entire life.

The PRETTY LITTLE DOLLS series is the darkest and most disturbing that I have ever read and I can’t even begin to describe how much I love it! Benny is one truly unhinged psychopath who has won the heart of many a reader, including my own. It feels so wrong to love a character who is capable of the most heinous and sadistic acts but there is something so charismatic about Benny that just reels you in and makes you want to be his perfect little doll. I had hoped that this series would not end after book two because I felt that we were only scratching the surface of Benny’s story and I was beyond ecstatic when it was announced that a third book was in the works. PRETTY NEW DOLL was everything and more than I could ever have hoped for. I freaking LOVED this book HARD!! Ker Dukey and K. Webster succeeded in taking us on one wild and horrific journey filled with the goriest and the most insanely erotic scenes that left me begging for more. My love for Benny has grown by leaps and bounds!!

It’s three years after the supposed death of Benny and we learn from page one that he survived the fire. Somehow he was able to reach out to an old contact of his father, who ends up coming to his aid. No amount of time or distance has diminished his obsession over his Pretty Little Doll. His new friend, Tanner, has been helping him to control his urges and tries to keep his baser predilections for young women satiated by offering him a plethora of pretty dolls. But none of the dolls have been able to compare to his one and only pretty little doll. Benny keeps tabs on her and has been biding his time, waiting for the perfect moment when he will take her once again and he vows that once she is back in his arms, that she will never be leaving his side again. That was his plan until one day he stumbles upon a Pretty New Doll and he can’t believe his eyes because she looks exactly like his original doll, Bethany, that he lost so many years ago when he was just a young boy. This dolly is perfect, from her porcelain toned skin to the pretty dresses she wears that makes her look like one of the beautiful dolls he used to make. This woman embodies all of his deepest and darkest fantasies.

Benny wants to possess her more than anything and it’s just about making him lose all his self-control. So Tanner, once again, tries to help Benny control his urges and promises to help him obtain his pretty new doll.

Tanner is quite the mystery. He was just as sadistic if not more than Benny. He’s a handsome and wealthy businessman who has a penchant for rough sex and is a definite sadist. His bloodlust almost rivals that of Benny’s, but he was not even remotely as charismatic to me as Benny was. While Benny is a true psychopath, there is his deeply embedded need to be loved and to be reunited with his one true soulmate that gives me hope that somehow he is capable of redemption. While Tanner is pure evil and I really didn’t like that he was obsessed with and consumed by his undeniable lust for Benny. There were some gruesome and bloody threesomes between the two men and some unfortunate dollies that bordered on the mm realm, which I totally wasn’t down with, but endured because of my love for this series. I don’t think for one moment that Benny reciprocates Tanner’s feelings. For him, it’s more of a power play and him wanting to be the dominant one of the two.

Dillon Scott and Jade appear throughout the story. Dillon is investigating a string of homicides which all happen to lead back to Tanner and unbeknownst to him, also back to Benny whom he believes died in the house fire years ago.

I’m leaving quite a few details out so that I don’t ruin the enjoyment of this story for anyone. I will say that all the while my brain was trying to work out the many different pieces to the puzzle and just when I thought I was so smart because I knew what was going on, well that freaking cliffhanger put me back in my place. I realized these two authors pulled the rug right out from under me and that I didn’t have a clue at all!! I have no idea what the heck is going on but I am thoroughly intrigued and I have no idea how I am going to be able to wait for PRETTY BROKEN DOLL to be released!!

PRETTY NEW DOLL is currently available! Fans of the series are in for a treat! This is a nail biting, on the edge of your seat thriller, that will also have your panties melting from the downright naughty and erotic scenes. If you have a weak stomach and can’t handle gore or you have a distaste for taboo subject matter, then I would highly advise you to avoid this series. For those of you who get your thrills off of the disturbing and dirty reads, and haven’t bothered to pick up these books yet—what are you waiting for???? ONE-CLICK NOW!!

*****Dee’s Review*****

4 STARS****

Destined Hearts had my heart dancing to the beautiful melody of Lyric and Wolf’s love story. This second installment of The Stolen Melody Duet was fast paced and very passionate. This entire story was simply captivating.

This second book picks up right where the first one left off. Both Lyric and Wolf have broken hearts and secrets that have formed a whole new wall that separates them. Lyric has a lot of trust issues stemming from her tumultuous childhood, but her unconditional love for Wolf is the one thing in her life that she is sure about, and she’s ready to do whatever it takes to be with him. Wolf too would do anything for Lyric, but can he see past all the hurt, and let her in once again?

Lyric’s past is coming back and threatening to take everything from her once again, but she’s not the little naive girl she once was. She’s all grown up and ready to fight for what she wants. Despite everything negative trying to get in the way of Wolf and Lyric’s love, they make beautiful music together that comes from the deep love they share for each other, but will that be enough to finally break down those walls between them?

This story was entertaining from beginning to end. The perfect amount of angst and passion make the reader enjoy it, and truly feel like you are part of the story. The secondary characters were amazing and the writing style was like music to my ears. If you are looking for a beautiful rock star story that will tug at your heart strings, THIS IS IT!!!!

REVIEW – SMALL TOWN SCANDAL (Wingmen #5) by Daisy Prescott

SYNOPSIS

Another wingmen meets his match and this time it’s scandalous.

Carter Kelso is a man with a plan. And goats.
Ashley Kingston is a woman with a reputation.
Can he earn back her love before their past catches up with them and destroys everything?

On the island, my last name is synonymous with scandal. With a notorious father and a famous brother, I’ve been on the sidelines of our small town’s gossip circle for years. Nothing to see here. Just a man and his goats, happily going through life. Not a care in the world. Too bad it’s all lies.

I’m tired of trying not to be in love with Ashley Kingston, our very own island jezebel. Some people think she’s a slut. They think they know her. They’re wrong. Screw them.

Reputations can be deceiving. I should know.

Small Town Scandal is a second chance romance standalone novel and the fifth book in the Wingmen series. You do not have to read the other novels first.

*****Dee’s Review*****

5+++ Small Town Stars*****

Remember your first love? Stolen kisses, butterflies in the stomach, goosebumps all over your body? Imagine getting a second chance at the great love you once lost. Friendship, romance, and redemption are many of the things that make this book one I will never forget. Also, the very cute baby goats made Small Town Scandal my most favorite book of the series. A great summer read.

Carter Kelso is tired of playing the field in hopes to forget the one girl, who even after so many years still owns his heart, Ashley Kingston.

Ashley used to be the all American good girl. Carter and she were inseparable and totally in love when they were in high school. One day the unexpected happened, making everything around them fall apart. Those painful events taught Ashley a lesson, you can’t please everyone. She decided that she was going to start living her life on her own terms, even if that new resolution would give her a bad reputation.

Bad reputation or not, Carter might be the only one in the small town who really knows Ashley, and he wants another shot at being with her. He will stalk her, romance her and even call upon the help of his very adorable goats to help him on his mission to win her back. At first, Ashley is hesitant of Carter’s intentions but the hearts wants what it wants, and she can hardly resist the Goat Man. It has been a long time since Ashley actually listened to heart; can she let go of the past and give into her feelings?

Ashley was once a bad girl. Remember the book, Confessions of a Reformed Tom Cat? She was that secondary character that got in trouble for being naughty. Well, I love that we got to live through her story, and I love that it actually ended up being my favorite book. Because I’m a firm believer in second chances, and hers was just spectacular. Everything about this book was wonderful, it was passionate yet tender, smart yet funny and truly unforgettable.

Make sure to check out this awesome series. They are all different and very special in their own way, but all so much fun to read. I enjoyed them all very much.

*****Mel’s Review*****

4.5 Stars!

Edith Millen aka Edie is a 17 yr. old senior in high school living in Northern California in a town called Auburn. She attends a private school & has plans to go to Berkeley for college. One evening life as she knows it is forever altered when a routine stop at the local convenience store ends with her being held hostage at gun point by the town meth-head. Nearly dying changed her. The once good girl who put up with being bullied & was happy to just blend in now has no tolerance for jerks. Done with the snotty kids at her school Evie decides she wants to transfer to the local public high school to finish out the year. Being curvy & not popular, Evie’s never really fit in anywhere. Now she doesn’t care what people think of her.

On Edie’s first day at her new school she crosses paths with the boy who risked his life to save her. Her fellow hostage & hero John Cole. He was a complete stranger but she still felt an odd connection to him. They had both been through something awful & were trying to deal. While Edie was finally spreading her wings, John was trying to settle down a bit. He had a bad boy, troublemaker reputation as the ex-drug dealer. After his near death experience he was trying to get his life together & focus on his future.

Edie & John are drawn to one another and share a bond as survivors. They begin spending time together & realize they are both struggling with nightmares. Edie realizes John is the only one she can talk to about that night. He understood her because he lived through it too. Being around him is easy & lately he’s the only thing keeping her sane these days. They become best friends. Soon Edie develops a major crush on her gorgeous friend and has intense feelings for him. When she’s with John she’s happy.

-He was beautiful.

-Not once in my entire life had I ever been so curious about someone.

-“I never knew a girl I wanted to look after before.”

Edie wants to live life to the fullest with no regrets. There are so many firsts she’s yet to experience. When John helps her with one of those firsts things get complicated between them. She tries to keep him in the friend zone, but can’t quit replaying his lips on hers. She wants them to be more, but isn’t sure what she means to him.

John thinks he’s bad for Edie. He doesn’t want to bring her down, but real feelings are growing. Soon he’s consumed with thoughts of Edie, but when danger finds them again can they survive twice?

I really loved this book! It had a YA feel to it, & was something new from this author. I was sucked in & hooked from the beginning of this book. It has action, a hot, swoony, bad boy, and lots of emotion. It was a fabulous read!

-I wanted it all. Every part of him.

-Kissing John was everything.

-He kissed me slow and sweet. It seemed endless, as necessary to life as breathing.

-Touching him just about topped my list of favorite things to do.

-All of me wanted him, my heart and my head and all of the rest. Without a doubt, he made life better.

REVIEW – BEAUTIFUL MISTAKE by Vi Keeland

SYNOPSIS

A sexy new standalone from #1 New York Times bestselling author, Vi Keeland

The first time I met Caine West was in a bar.
He noticed me looking his way and mistakenly read my scowling as checking him out.
When he attempted to talk to me, I set him straight—telling him what I thought of his lying, cheating, egomaniacal ass.
You see, the gorgeous jerk had wined and dined my best friend–smooth talking her into his bed, all along failing to mention that he was married.
He deserved every bit of my tongue-lashing and more for what he’d done.
Especially when that lazy smile graced his perfect face in response to my rant.
Only it turned out, the man I’d just told off wasn’t the right guy.
Oops. My mistake.
Embarrassed, I slunk out without an apology.
I was never going to see the handsome stranger again anyway, right?
That’s what I thought…until I walked into class the next morning.
Well, hello Professor West, I’m your new teaching assistant.
I’ll be working under you…figuratively speaking.
Although the literal interpretation might not be such a bad thing—working under Professor West.
This was going to be interesting…

4.5 Hot For Teacher Stars!

Rachel Martin is a 25 yr. old woman who had a troubled childhood that she’s tried hard to put behind her. She lives in New York & works as a waitress/bartender at O’Leary’s Pub. She has great friends & is a graduate student at Brooklyn College. She’s a teaching assistant to help offset the price of her tuition at the music conservatory.

While at work one evening Rachel spots the jerk that recently did her best friend wrong. She proceeds to thoroughly tell him off & let him know exactly what she thinks of him. She later figures out she told off the wrong guy. Embarrassed she slips out the back thinking she’ll never see him again.

Rachel has a new TA assignment & has been reassigned to Professor West. She shows up on her first day to meet her new boss, and is stunned to see the gorgeous stranger from last night. She made a horrible first impression, and she hopes he won’t remember her from the bar. No such luck. From the cocky smirk he’s throwing her way, it’s clear Professor Caine West definitely remembers her.

Caine & Rachel both felt a connection from the moment they met. The closer they work together the harder it is to deny the chemistry between them. They try fighting their intense attraction & keep things professional, but their craving for one another is soon out of control and takes over. One touch and they are both done for. All self restraint is gone. They can no longer resist the strong pull between them & give in to their mutual desire.

-“You’re the most amazing woman I’ve ever met.”

-“Together. It just works. I felt it the first night we met.”

-A spark we could step on and try to extinguish or blow on to fan the flame.

Secrets are revealed & suddenly things get emotional between this couple. I really enjoyed this book & devoured it like I do any book by Vi Keeland. I love her writing & am always completely consumed by her beautiful stories!

*****FOUR STARS*****

”You’re that song, I don’t know any of the words, but the tune is so damn familiar.”

I understood what he meant. I’d felt a connection from the first time we met, too. I didn’t want to scare him, but whatever was between us had always felt bigger than me—bigger than us.

Readers be warned, Vi Keeland’s latest standalone will have your temperatures rising to dangerous levels because of the scorching hot steam that the two main characters generate whenever they are together! Get ready to be dazzled by the decadently handsome and dirty talking Caine West. This man is a sexy Professor with an insatiable libido and has sexual skills that rival that of Christian Grey’s!

Rachel Martin is a grad student who is studying for her masters in musical therapy at Brooklyn College. She works part time at a local bar to help pay for her tuition. Her best friend also works at the bar and one night after their shifts are over, her bestie’s ex, who turned out to be a douche since he conveniently forgot to mention that he was married, shows up at the bar and tries to make the moves on Rachel. She gives him a verbal lashing only to be mortified later on when her friend confirms that the guy she cursed out was not the ex-boyfriend. It seems that fate is playing a cruel trick on her because the next day she meets the Professor that she is to be a TA for and it’s none other than Mr. Hottie from the bar.

Caine West has lived quite an exciting life. He used to be the drummer in a famous boy band but a few years later they went their separate ways when the lead singer became addicted to drugs. Now at thirty-one he is one of the most despised and feared professors at Brooklyn College, known for his moodiness and zero tolerance for lateness. When Rachel appears in his class it is both a blessing and a curse for Caine. He can’t deny the insane attraction between them and for some strange reason, which he noted when they met at the bar, Rachel seems so familiar to him. But this new development is a problem for him because he does not get romantically involved with students or TA’s. He tried it once before and it ended terribly.

The chemistry between them is just too intense and Caine can’t get enough of Rachel’s fiery attitude. Waiting for these two to give in to their growing lust for each other was almost beyond agonizing for me. I found myself getting irritated with Caine every time he would lose control with Rachel but then quickly put on the brakes the next day. It was seriously maddening.

The story is told through alternating POVs which also included several chapters from Caine’s past which could end up destroying the couple’s chance at an HEA before they even get started.

LIVE – STUBBORN AS A MULE (Sex and Sweet Tea #2) by Juliette Poe

Down in Whynot, NC, there are three things that hold true: 1) life moves just a little bit slower, 2) family means everything, and 3) you don’t mess with history.

When his family decides to sell a home that’s been part of their history for over a century, Lowe Mancinkus is madder than a hornet. To add insult to injury, the woman who purchased it is some fancy pants, city girl looking to fix it up and sell it off. Doesn’t matter that she’s sexy as hell or that just being near her gets his blood racing like never before. That home belongs to his family, or at least it did until she came to town.

Well that just won’t do, now will it?

From the moment that she laid eyes on the historical home in rural North Carolina, Melinda Rothschild knew Mainer House was something special. The perfect escape from life in New York City, Melinda signed the papers and set to work restoring the house to its natural beauty. That is until an angry Lowe showed up on her doorstep one day. With a scowl on his handsome, chiseled face. And a shotgun in his strong, muscular arms.

Is it getting hot in here?

Melinda’s about to get a lesson on life in the south, but Lowe is about to learn a lesson of his own – this city girl doesn’t back down from a fight.

The booming sound coming from downstairs causes me to sit straight up on the mattress that is placed in the middle of the master bedroom floor. I’ve yet to get a good night’s sleep because there’s a damn train that runs parallel to the town. It’s just two blocks over from the Mainer House, and it feels the need to blow its whistle around two AM each morning. This isn’t that big of a deal to most of the residents of the small town of Whynot, but to me… it chafes just a little because, well… I love my sleep.

I’ve been assured by the nice lady who runs Sweet Cakes, the bakery right across the street from Mainer House, that I’ll get used to it, but I seriously doubt it. Even the noise of New York City never penetrated my sleep the way a train whistle does, and I get a totally empathetic look from her when I stagger in for some coffee and a cheese Danish each morning.

I think I’ve slipped into a pattern at night where I now anticipate being woken up by that stupid train, so I’m not even able to get into good REM sleep. It’s probably why I shot straight up in bed at the banging that’s going on downstairs, although I can’t quite pinpoint from where it’s coming. A glance at the alarm clock sitting on the floor shows it’s 5:30 AM. It’s still dark outside, and I’m slightly—okay, greatly—confused. I struggle to process since it’s been almost two weeks since I came to Whynot and I’ve not had a decent night’s sleep since then.

Then it penetrates… someone’s at my front door.

Banging.

At 5:30 AM.

Immediate anger flows through my veins, heating me up from within. Without any further consternation, I know it’s Lowe Mancinkus causing all that noise. It must be him because there’s no one else in the entire world who has ever been such a thorn in my side.

Flipping the blanket back, I roll off the mattress and wince as my knees hit the floor. Almost three decades of sleeping on a mattress, box spring, and a frame, and I can’t get used to being only a few inches off the floor. I’ve held off on buying any furniture for the house until the remodeling is complete.

Pushing first to my hands and knees, I manage to lurch upright and stagger out of the bedroom. Down the rotund, sweeping staircase to the main floor. I don’t even bother to look out the leaded glass panels on either side of the heavy wooden door—so convinced I am that it’s Lowe on the other side—that I fling it open without an ounce of worry.

“What in the holy hell are you doing?” I snarl as the breeze generated from the doorway swinging open so fast actually blows my hair back.

Lowe stands there in mid-bang, fist raised high and a diabolical glitter to his eyes. His eyes lock onto mine for just a moment before they drop and casually run down the length of my frame. I look down at myself and cringe as I realize I’m still in my pajamas, which in the sweltering South consists of a cotton tank top and sleep shorts that are really short. My hand falls from the doorknob, and I cross my arms over my chest as Lowe looks back up at me.

And why does he have to be so damned gorgeous? In ordinary circumstances, this man pushes all my girlie buttons. Tall, just enough muscle to be strong but not freakish, and that dark chocolate hair with bright hazel eyes that are every woman’s fantasy. I always have to remind myself he’s a nasty SOB who I wouldn’t give the time of day to… in ordinary circumstances, that is.

“I’m here to start work,” he says casually as he pushes past me into the main foyer.

“It’s five-freaking-thirty in the morning,” I grit out, not moving from the open doorway. I expect him to be walking right back out again.

Instead, he ignores me and moves down a wide hall beside the staircase that goes to the kitchen. With a growl of frustration, I slam the door shut and then stomp off after him. “It’s completely rude to show up here at this hour.”

He doesn’t respond and as I turn the corner into the kitchen, I find him rummaging through the cupboards. “Where’s the coffee?”

“I don’t have any,” I snap at his backside since he hasn’t bothered to give me a second glance since he barged in. “And I don’t like you ignoring me any more than I like you barging into my house.”

“Get some decent clothes on, and I wouldn’t be forced to look through your cupboards for nonexistent coffee,” he replies calmly, moving onto the next cabinet even though I’ve told him I have no coffee.

In fact, I have hardly anything at all here. A mattress, pillow, sheets, and blanket in the bedroom, some orange juice in the fridge, and towels in the master bathroom. Those are the only creature comforts at this point, and they’re enough to get me through the remodeling. I’ve been eating out almost every meal and this is not a hardship as that’s pretty much what I do when I’m back home in New York. One, however, can only eat so many grits and collards, although I’ll take them over fatback and pickled pigs feet any day.

“I would like to remind you…” I say in a voice that comes off far too rancid and nowhere in control. “That this is my house. I can wear whatever I like to bed, with the assumption I won’t have visitors until a decent hour.”

“I’m not a visitor,” he points out, back still to me. “But because you couldn’t take a little joke and had to run crying to Judge Bowe, I now have to work for you. I also have to keep my own business running, which means I have to work early and late. You need to suck it up, buttercup. This is your life for the next few months.”

REVIEW – BREACHED (Breach #4) by K.I. Lynn

SYNOPSIS

My life was ash. Burned to the ground. Razed with no chance of rebuilding.

Empty.

Alone.

Just as I had to be.

No one else was going to get hurt because of me. No more deaths.

For years I’ve secluded myself, stayed in the darkness, and tried to melt into the background. Hiding in plain sight.

Taking a new job, working in close confines with a new partner, is risky, and I thought I was up to the task. So I hide behind a mask of my own making, a façade for the world.

The problem is, I can’t stop thinking about my new partner. I hate her, but I crave her like she’s the most intoxicating thing I’ve ever encountered.

It’s maddening, but I need to stay away. I have to stay away.

I can’t love anyone ever again.

5 “I’m Yours” Stars!

Nathan Thorne is a man living in Indianapolis & barely existing after his life was torn apart. His heart is in ruins, and he feels empty & alone. He secluded himself from the world & embraces the darkness. He feels like he’s in a never ending black hole & it’s a struggle just to function daily. He deals with PTSD, panic attacks & continues to spiral out of control. The only thing that helped numb the pain was sex. He needed the pleasure to take away the pain.

He needed something to throw him back into the world of the living, & that comes in the form of a job offer from his father in law. He asks Nathan to come work at his law firm checking contracts. Nathan figures at least he’d be doing something he once loved. He’s bored & lonely and is willing to try anything that could pull his mind away from the hell that consumes him. He needs a fresh start.

It’s hard for Nathan to contain his inner turmoil & be around others. He wasn’t fit to socialize but put on a mask when in public. Nathan finds out he has a partner he will be working with named Delilah Palmer. He is stunned when he realizes it’s the beautiful woman he saw the other day in the parking lot. The same woman that made him feel unhinged just by the sight of her. She was a mystery he wanted to unravel. She intrigued him & it pissed him off. How was he going to be in close quarters with her daily without touching her? There was a non-fraternization policy that was going to be hard to stick to.

The longer he’s around Lila the more he feels like he’s crumbling & coming undone. They were constantly at each other’s throats, & it only served to turn him on even more. He was slowly losing his mind wanting her. He felt like he was in a state of pure agony trying to keep his distance. Eventually, the sexual tension is too much & they can’t resist each other any longer. They are both overcome with a powerful need. Nathan finally releases all his pent up hunger & rage, and Lila is his perfect sexual match. They are taken over by desire as they devour one another. Soon Lila is his obsession, & has obliterated all his self-control. She set him off on every level & had a hold on him. He never thought he could have more again or be happy. She’s giving his life meaning & making him feel again, & it terrifies him. He’s scared about what his love could mean for her. He tries to stay away to protect her, but it’s no use. She’s become a part of him. They are two broken people who are haunted by the past, & find solace in each other.

-I saw her beauty, her frailty. I saw what she kept from everyone. The darkness that was intoxicating. So much that I wanted to drown in it and her.

-“I hate the way I need you all the fucking time. I don’t want that. I can’t want that. I can’t want you… but I do. So fucking much I do.”

-The pull I feel to you is so strong.

-I couldn’t escape her if I tried. Somehow, I was always meant to find her.

As much as I adored the intense, dirty talking, insanely sexy, insatiable Nathan Thorne in Breach, I loved him even more in Breached. This book was amazing. It’s Breach in Nathan’s POV. If you read The short novella Dissolution that was also his POV, that is incorporated into this book near the end. I felt like I was reading a new book. His POV was so emotional, but he didn’t lose any of his edge. I loved getting in his head. I cracked up at all his inner dialogue regarding “the beast”, & also liked the tenderness between Nate & his father in law. I fell even more in love with the delicious Mr. Thorne & loved every minute of this book! If you forgot how hot Nathan is, you will definitely be reminded in Breached!

REVIEW – THE DARKEST SUNRISE (The Darkest Sunrise #1) by Aly Martinez

SYNOPSIS

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Whoever coined that phrase is a bald-faced liar. Words are often the sharpest weapon of all, triggering some of the most powerful emotions a human can experience.
“You’re pregnant.”
“It’s a boy.”
“Your son needs a heart transplant.”
Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Lies.
Syllables and letters may not be tangible, but they can still destroy your entire life faster than a bullet from a gun.
Two words—that was all it took to extinguish the sun from my sky.
“He’s gone.”
For ten years, the darkness consumed me.
In the end, it was four deep, gravelly words that gave me hope of another sunrise.
“Hi. I’m Porter Reese.”

AMAZING!!!

My immense physical reaction paled in comparison to the way his words had penetrated my mind and stripped me bare.
Porter Reese understood me.
Not in sentences, but in the silence.

THE DARKEST SUNRISE is a gut wrenching story that will put your hearts through emotional turmoil. I fell absolutely in love with this one! I guarantee that once you start it, you will find it nearly impossible to put down until you get to the last page. I’m struggling with how much I should even divulge in my review because there are some huge twists. Honestly, I had some of it figured out early on and even that didn’t hinder my love for the book. I loved this story so much that even today I get goosebumps thinking about it.

Charlotte Mills is a young woman who was attending medical school when she found out she was pregnant. It wasn’t what she wanted at that time but once she gave birth to her son, he quickly became her universe. The child was born with a weak heart and she was advised that eventually, her son would need a heart transplant. Charlotte knew that his chances for living a long life were slim but no matter what she held on to hope. During an outing to the park with her son, she rushes to help a mother whose child stopped breathing. For mere minutes, she took her eyes off her son and that’s all it took for a parent’s worst nightmare to become Charlotte’s reality. Someone had kidnapped her child and there weren’t any witnesses to the crime. Ten years later she still hasn’t given up hope of one day finding her son but Charlotte has become a shell of the person she used to be. She threw herself into her studies and has become one of the top Pulmonologists in the country. She has her own private practice but absolutely will not have any children as patients. The pain is still so overwhelming that she is unable to be around children.

Charlotte’s world is dull and lifeless. She puts on a mask to hide her pain from everyone but one day she meets a handsome and charming stranger who can truly see her. Porter Reese is no stranger to tragedy. He lost his wife a few years back when she died in a car accident. Since his wife’s death, he has had to care for his two children on his own, but his family does help out whenever they can. Porter is a successful restaurant owner and he offers to cater for a charity function that Charlotte’s practice is running. He has ulterior motives for doing so that involve meeting Charlotte. She has been recommended to him by several doctors as being one of the best Pulmonologists and he desperately needs her help. But from the moment he meets her, Porter is completely smitten. So he ends up pursuing her romantically.

The passion between Charlotte and Porter is intense!! Neither of them has ever felt anything like it before but what they feel for each other goes beyond a physical attraction as well. Their tragic pasts have linked them on a soul-deep level as well.

I can’t begin to express how much this book affected me and I really do hope that everyone enjoys it as much as I did. I was literally biting my nails in anticipation for what was to happen next. It ends on a pretty huge cliffhanger so, for those of you who are impatient, you may want to wait till the second book releases, which we actually only have to wait a few weeks for.

THE DARKEST SUNRISE releases on July 13th!! This is an absolute MUST READ!
