She was an unlikely obsession, this girl he’d known for such a small amount of time. Were he asked under fire, he couldn’t possibly account for the depth and certainty of his feelings for her.

I am so happy that I didn’t give up on this book! It starts off really slow in the beginning and I planned to just skim the heck out of it to get to the end, but once I got to about the 30% point, indifference and boredom quickly turned to love and complete captivation. DON’T SPEAK is a modern take on one of my favorite fairytales, ”The Little Mermaid” It is quite a lengthy book but once the pace picks up, I promise you that you’ll end up devouring this book like I did! I just couldn’t put this one down and it is definitely one of my top favorites by Katy Regnery!

DON’T SPEAK is the story of first love and forbidden love – how two people are able to look past social barriers and prejudices to be with each other. But is love enough when there is so much stacked against them?

Laire Cornish is a local girl from Corey Island, a small fisherman town in North Carolina. Her family and many of the inhabitants of this small town have lived there for generations. She’s the youngest of three sisters and is the most dutiful daughter. Always going out of her way to help her father when he comes home bone tired from being out all day fishing. She offers to take a shipment of blue crabs up to the house of a client on the mainland so that her father can get some much-needed rest. It is at this gorgeous and expansive estate, that she meets the most beautiful man her eyes have ever seen!

Erik Rexford is what you would consider royalty of North Carolina. His father is the Governor and their family is one of the wealthiest in the area. He is immediately captivated by the beautiful girl with strawberry blond hair and freckles. Her innocence is refreshing and it also seems to put him under her spell. Erik is tenacious in his pursuit of Laire! Laire gets a job at a local restaurant on the mainland, which she had to lie about to her father because it is frowned upon for her to want to leave their hometown. But Laire wants more out of life. She wants to go to college, become a fashion designer, and leave her small hometown behind. Working at the restaurant also makes it easier for Erik and Laire to spend time together.

Erik and Laire keep their relationship a secret because they know their families would not approve and would end up doing everything they can to tear them apart. So the two spend whatever stolen moments they can get together. But then a terrible tragedy and an ugly lie end in heartbreak and years of separation for the young lovers.

Almost six years pass before the two cross paths again which seems to be fated. A lot has changed for Erik and Laire. Old feelings of betrayal and anger are still very prevalent. Can these two find their way back to each other or is it just too late?

What a beautiful love story! My heart broke for Erik when he was fighting so hard to hold on to Laire and not having any clue as to why she was pushing him away. This character was INCREDIBLE!

Seeing her again is making him relive his grad school fantasies about taking the shy girl in the classroom. He is determined to be on top & can’t let her distract him.

Harper Denton recently moved from New York to Los Angeles. She has a no-nonsense reputation as a shark in the male-dominated world of construction management. She’s strong, confident & in control. Men often think she’s the underdog as a woman, but she proves them wrong for underestimating her. Harper is totally thrown off when she comes face to face with Ryder Rodgers. In college, he was the bane of her existence. She always felt judged by him & he knew just how to make her lose her temper. Being around him messed with her emotions, but she always loved going head to head with him.

-How can one mistake of a kiss years ago still make me feel this way? Because it was one helluva kiss. That’s why.

Harper has brought back Ryder’s competitive spirit. She’s smooth, feisty, & completely competent, and he’s always respected her brilliant mind. As much as he loves a sexy, confident, intelligent woman, he keeps having to remind himself she’s the competition. He hates he can’t read her & that she’s the unknown in this bidding war. He enjoys their banter but wishes he didn’t want her so desperately. The girl he remembered is now all woman & stunning. The sexual attraction is too intense & eventually, all restraint goes out the window and they give in to their desire for one another. Sleeping with the enemy becomes almost more urgent & important than the job when they realize they can’t resist each other any longer.

Garrett Ashton is a gorgeous doctor in New York who owns a private practice called Park Avenue Wellness Group. His practice is his family legacy & is the #1 private practice in the state. As the owner, you’d think he could do what he wants, but thanks to his incompetent staff, he’s constantly having to fill in for them doing breast exams, pap smears, etc. He just wants to be a therapist & not fool with general medicine anymore.

Natalie Madison couldn’t imagine working anywhere but the hospital she interned at, so when they tell her she’s being transferred to a private practice for her residency she’s devastated. She always thought she’d stay on at the hospital and work with her mentor.

Garrett’s team decides to bring on a new Dr. for their residency program. He doesn’t want to be anyone’s babysitter but hopes the new resident will lighten up his workload. When he learns his new employee is the woman he’s been chatting with on the dating app the New York Minute things get complicated since she recently stood him up. He had dinner plans with his mystery woman a couple weeks ago, & she abruptly canceled on him and ruined a perfectly good friendship. Now that he knows who she really is he forgets about being professional. He can’t pretend he doesn’t know all her dirtiest fantasies.

Garrett is pissed Natalie has been right under his nose this whole time. She’s gorgeous & becoming a temptation he can no longer resist. Once they act on their intense attraction all bets are off. They indulge in one another often & can’t get enough. This was a super hot, sexy novella that is fantastic. Dr. Ashton is deliciously sinful. Really enjoyed this one!

I love Whitney G! Ever since I read the Reasonable Doubt series, she has remained one of my favorite authors. She’s the queen of creating the sexiest dirty talking book boyfriends. Andrew Hamilton will always be one of my favorite dirty talkers. This Steamy Coffee Collection series is meant to be pure unadulterated naughty entertainment and so far I have to admit that I have loved every minute of it. Now I have to admit this and the previous book seems to be very similar to her “Reasonable Doubt” series. There are only slight differences but heck this formula works and I wouldn’t mind if she wrote ten more of these!

Natalie and Garrett have been having a flirtatious online friendship for several months. Neither knows each other’s true identity or name. They go by the nicknames of “D-Doctor” and “Jerseygirl7”. The highlight of their days are the sexy messages they exchange. Natalie has told D-Doctor about all of her sexual fantasies and they’ve discussed all of her recent dating disasters. D-Doctor has quite the filthy mouth and has propositioned Natalie on more than one occasion but she’s always managed to dodge his requests to meet in person until they make a bet that if her latest date turns out to be another disappointment, then she will have to go on a real date with him. Of course, she loses the bet and they make plans for a Friday night date at a very exclusive restaurant in NYC.

Garrett Ashton is a very successful doctor who is part owner of NYC’s #1 Private Practice group. He spends most of his time in the office not only doing his job but also filling in for some of his unreliable partners. He doesn’t have time for relationships nor does he have any desire to be in one, but a certain woman he’s been basically sexting online has been occupying his thoughts more than he cares to admit. No one other than his online gal pal has really seemed tempting to him until he meets the new Resident that his colleagues hired to work at their practice.

As luck would have it, the Resident is Natalie and at first, neither of them realize who the other is since they’ve never revealed what they look like. Eventually, they both discover the truth and it becomes a battle of wills for the two to work in the same office day in and day out, and not rip each other’s clothes off.

When they can no longer hold on to self-control, the story gets deliciously naughty and boy did I likey a lot!! I am so glad I finally got around to reading this one! This series is purely for enjoyment purposes only and great to pass the time on a lazy Sunday afternoon!

I know he said we could never be friends again, but I still kind of feel like we are. Just more. We’re lovers who became friends who became…everything.

Every now and then I love reading a book with a sexy, swoony Southern alpha male who knows how to please a woman in every way. It didn’t take long for me to fall under the spell of Officer CJ Tully. From the moment he drawls out a ”Darlin”, I melted like butter. I never read anything by J. Daniels before but you better believe I’m going to be getting to her other books as soon as possible!!

Riley Tennyson shows up late to her brother’s wedding rehearsal dinner after having a huge fight and break up with her boyfriend. He wasn’t invited to the wedding since her brother can’t stand him and the fact that she was still going to the wedding, really pissed her boyfriend off. When she arrives at the dinner, she spots a familiar sexy cop who she has seen around town but they’ve never been introduced. CJ instantly hones in on Riley and is completely mesmerized. After they share some conversation and a few shots of tequila at the bar, one thing leads to another and the couple ends up sharing one hell of a steamy time between the sheets that weekend. They keep this a secret from everyone since Riley’s brother is a bit overprotective of her and she’d like to avoid unnecessary drama. The two plan to meet up again but things go South quickly when Riley goes back to her ex’s apartment to pack up her stuff only to be faced with a remorseful man who swears they were just having an argument and he never considered them to be broken up! YIKES!!!

Riley, being the sweet and terribly naïve woman that she is, decides that she made a terrible mistake and calls things off with CJ, but quickly places him in the ”friend zone”. CJ is beyond bummed by the turn of events but he’s so smitten with Riley, that he’ll take her whatever way he can get her. This is where I am just SMH more towards Riley! She’s young so I get that she’s not wise enough to know when she’s making a poor life decision. Anyhow, soon the douchey boyfriend will show his true colors and we don’t have to worry about his presence causing any further interference between CJ and Riley. Oh, but there’s still more drama to build up extra angst, like the crazy over-protective older brother that Riley still wishes to keep in the dark about her relationship with CJ.

Every time it looks like these two are finally going to get it right, something surfaces that threatens to tear them apart. I have to say that I didn’t mind the added angst because it kept me fully engaged with the story. It felt like no time had passed at all when I got to the end of the story, and in my eyes, that means it was a winner!!

If you love a story with a sexy as hell alpha male who knows how to take care of his woman and you don’t mind a bit of angst, you are definitely going to want to read this book!

Riley Tennyson is a gorgeous, southern 22 yr. old woman from a small town in Alabama called Ruxton. Her brother Reed can’t stand her boyfriend Richard. Reed is getting married soon, & she’s got quite the dilemma because her boyfriend isn’t invited to the wedding. Riley is, of course, part of the wedding party & has to be there. When her boyfriend expects her to choose between him & her family, things get heated and they break up.

Riley arrives at her brother’s beach wedding newly single and angry. She has too much tequila & ends up getting cozy with a friend of Reed’s named CJ Tully. CJ is a police officer in Ruxton & is delicious. He flirts, and she can’t help but accept everything this sexy man has to offer. They spend an incredible evening together & then soon return home to reality. Riley goes home with plans to move out of the place she shares with her ex. She soon learns Richard thinks they just had a fight & doesn’t think they’re broken up at all. Guilt has her calling CJ & asking him to keep what happened between them a secret. CJ respects her decision & agrees to be her friend, or at least give it a try, but he clearly wants more & doesn’t think they were a mistake.

-I want her. God… fuck, I want her. All the time. That hasn’t changed.

-I care too much about her to fuck this up. Christ. I care so fucking much about her already. More than she knows. Riley Tennyson got under my skin at that wedding and fucking stayed there.

I really enjoyed this book. It was my first in this series, and now I can’t wait to read the others. Being that I’m an Alabama girl, I can especially appreciate a chivalrous Bama man. I adored everything about CJ Tully. He is 100% alpha but has the kindest most loving heart. Every time he called her Darlin’ I melted. This man was absolutely irresistible, hilarious & everything I love in a book boyfriend.

-I want him. I want this man more than I’ve ever wanted anyone. It’s beyond desire at this point. It’s beyond anything I’ve ever felt.

Just for a moment. I breathed him in and he smelled…fantastic. Familiar. He smelled like my dreams. And he felt too good to be true.

THE CAD AND THE CO-ED is the third standalone installment of the Rugby series and it was just as amazing as the first two books! The writing collaboration between Cosway & Reid is beyond stellar!! I just can’t get enough of this wonderful series and incredible characters!!

Nineteen-year-old, Eilish Cassidy has just had the night of her life with a man who has been the star of her fantasies for quite some time. Bryan Leech is a professional Rugby player and is her cousin Sean’s teammate. The two met at a wedding and there was an instant physical attraction which led to a night of amazing sex, but when the sun rises the next morning it seems to Eilish’s total dismay, that Bryan completely forgot their night together since he was beyond drunk. He was anything but pleasant to her the next morning which shatters poor Eilish’s heart.

The story fast forwards to five years later and Eilish is about to start her new job as a physical therapist for her cousin’s Rugby team. Her life had been drastically changed by that one night of hot sweaty passion with Bryan. She ended up getting pregnant and was disowned by her mother when she refused to give her son up for adoption. Eilish is quite nervous about starting her new job because she knows that she will come face to face with Bryan again and the five years that have passed have done nothing to ease her broken heart. When they cross paths again the chemistry between them is undeniable. Bryan is not the same man he was when they had their one night together. Back then he was an alcoholic who had no qualms about sleeping with all the women who threw themselves at him. Bryan was given an ultimatum by his coach to clean up his act or be cut from the team, and that spurs him on to seek treatment. He’s now two years sober and in all that time has steered clear of women and relationships. Now Eilish is awakening feelings in him that laid dormant for so long. She becomes a bit of a challenge for Bryan because she’s not falling for his advances. This is something Bryan is not used to and it only further ignites his interest in her.

Eilish has never been able to get over the fact that Bryan found her totally forgettable. She’s also fearful that he will find out about their son. Even though her cousin tries to convince her that Bryan is a changed man and that she should let him know that he is the father of her child, she holds on to fear that he’ll try to take her son away from her.

When the truth is revealed, will Bryan run the other way due to his fear of commitment or will he step up and be the father he always wished he’d had as a young boy? Will Eilish and Bryan be able to get over the past and their hang-ups and see that happiness is within their grasp?

L.H Cosway and Penny Reid’s collaboration is so seamless you kind of forget you are reading. The reader is always front and center in all the action. You will laugh and fall in love with all the amazing characters. The Cad And The Co-Ed is a fabulous new addition to this fan favorite series.

I loved this book so much! This beautiful man makes such a transformation. He has such a pure, loving heart, & he was absolutely dreamy. He fell so hard for Eilish & fought to win her heart!

This book was simply exceptional. It was amazing how this author was able to create such a special kind of love story, despite all the hate, blood and destruction in the background. Like a beautiful flower blooming in the middle of hard and dark concrete. RIOT was without a doubt my favorite book out of this wonderful series.

The Scarred Souls series, has catapulted itself to my number one favorite by Tillie Cole. Each installment manages to be even better than its predecessor. RIOT was the absolute PERFECT conclusion to this dark but ultimately beautiful story. This cannot be read as a standalone. You must have read each book to be able to follow the storyline and honestly, you won’t want to miss out on each and every amazing Hero and their equally fabulous Heroine! I found the love story within this one to be even more heartbreaking as both characters were forced to live under the brutality of the blood pit master from their early childhood. Having been drugged and tortured for so many years, their memories of who they once were, have been almost permanently erased. What I enjoy most about this series is somehow, even within the darkest depths of despair, when all hope is seemingly lost–love always conquers all!

Everything that we have read previously has led us to this point. All the characters from book one and on, are back, and they have a mission that they must accomplish at all cost! There is absolutely no room for failure. The Blood Pit and its Master are to be extinguished and Valentin’s sister, Inessa, is to be rescued. Luka, Zaal, and Valentin are on their way back to the Georgian Blood Pit to put to an end all of the atrocities that have befallen them and countless others.

The Master has taken a new “Mona”, which is what you would consider a sex concubine. 152 has spent most of her life being forced to have sex with the many guards and fighters under Mistress Arziani. Drugs are constantly administered into her system that makes her a willing body but they’ve also wiped out memories of who she was before she came to live in the blood pit. When the Mistress is murdered, her brother takes 152 and plans to keep her for his own pleasure, that is until he notices that his most prized fighter has shown some interest in her.

901 is the ultimate killing machine. He is Arziani’s best blood pit fighter. This man lives for the kill and closes himself off to all human contact. He refuses the Master’s offerings of women to have sex with. He has not made any friendships with the other fighters in his cell block. Relationships are a form of weakness. He hates his Master with everything that he is and will not give him any kind of leverage over him. But with just one look at 152, his weakness has been discovered. Arziani sends 152 to 901’s cell and injects a drug in her that has her crying out in pain. The only way to stop the suffering is to have sex with her. He unwillingly obliges but little by little, 152 is breaking through all of his walls he had built up over the years to protect himself.

Soon they come to find out their true identities, 152 is Inessa Belrova, Valentin’s sister. 901 is Ilya Konev, who was kidnapped from an orphanage in Russia when he was just a young boy. The two find true love during circumstances that can only be considered a living nightmare. How will they be able to live a life of love and freedom when they are facing insurmountable odds?

At the heart of each book has been the incredible and overpowering love that the couple feels for each other. It is the love of their women that sets them free from the torment and pain of their past. She is the one who gives them a new purpose, who beats into their hearts a new determination to live a better life. Without their women by their side, they are nothing and they never waste a moment cherishing these fierce females. Each Heroine may seem delicate but they are just as powerful and brave as their beloved Warriors.

It’s been a while since I read a book where the subject of cheating was the main theme of the story. There’s only been one cheater that I rooted for to get the girl in the end but that man definitely deserved a swift kick in the nuts for his infidelities. Lucas Thorne, however, is a “cheater” that will slowly but surely win your heart as you progress through the pages of this thoroughly engaging story. At first, I was thinking this guy is a real douche and there’s no way I’m going to end up liking this book, but as his story is revealed, I started to root for the two main characters to ride off into the sunset together.

Lucas is a very attractive and successful businessman, who has a strong aversion to commitment. He has an ongoing relationship with seven different women, who each see him on separate days of the week, except for Sundays, which is the day of the week he devotes to his older sister. Life is great as far as he’s concerned. He’s got the best sex life with women who know about his arrangements and that there can never be any kind of serious relationship between them. For some reason every woman is fine with this setup and even when they end up choosing to break things off, it always ends amicably. But was Lucas always this cavalier with his interactions with women? It turns out only five years ago, he was engaged to his high school sweetheart, but on the night before the wedding, he was caught in bed with his fiance’s sister. From that moment on, he was deemed a ”cheater”, and it’s why he has never attempted to be in a serious relationship since. He’s about to get a serious wake-up call!

Avery Black has just lost her dream job and she is desperate to find employment because there is no way she wants to be forced to move back into her parent’s house while her evil and conniving sister is still living there. She ends up finding a paid internship. She will be the executive assistant of one of the VPs of the company. Turns out she happens to know her new boss better than most people. Lucas is her boss, but he’s also the douchebag who cheated on her sister, Kayla, the night before their wedding, with her other sister, Brooke. The two have this strong chemistry between them and even though it seems their relationship has turned volatile, you just know this is going to be a hotter than hell enemies-to-lovers romance.

Back in the day, Lucas and Avery were very close. They were best friends. Lucas was always like a big brother to Avery. He was there to wipe her tears whenever someone hurt her feelings. He would offer her advice when she turned to him for help. It wasn’t until she turned seventeen, that he started to see her as more than a little sister. Lucas was battling some intense feelings for Avery, and she was just as into him, if not more. Avery always lived in the shadows of her older sisters. She never thought she measured up to them. She had a huge crush on Lucas and dreamed that he would fall in love with her instead of her older sister. Little did she know that she might have been the only woman that ever truly owned his heart and that the truth about what happened that night before the wedding, had never been what her sister had claimed.

I loved both Lucas and Avery. Lucas was a seriously swoon-worthy and charming Hero. Even with his skewed outlook on his no strings relationships, he was never portrayed as a heartless, cheating whore. The women he spent time with were very different in many ways and he appreciated them for their individuality. What happened in the past severely messed with his head and it becomes clear that it affected him deeply. Avery was a total spitfire and I loved the heated banter between her and Lucas. Even while she claims to hate him, she doesn’t hesitate to come to his defense, which lands them both in an uncomfortable situation with their families. But the heat between these two only intensifies and I was unable to put this book down until I could get to the very last page.

I know there are some of you who don’t read books about cheating, but I hope that you’ll give this one a chance. I promise you, there is so much more to this story! It was angsty, hilarious, and downright steamy!!

This was exactly like in the movies. Except it was Finn and he was saying he loved me. I was in my own Hallmark movie. And I was nailing it.

The Elevator Series has become one of my most favorite RomComs ever! It’s so utterly hilarious, I would have to say it’s like RomCom on CRACK. This is one of the few times that I took a chance on a brand new author and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made. When I read ”GOING DOWN”, I don’t think I ever laughed so hard in my life or fell completely in love with both the Hero and Heroine. When the next book, ”GETTING OFF came out, I worried that it wouldn’t measure up to its predecessor, but I quickly learned that I had no reason to doubt Katherine Stevens. That second book might have been even funnier than the first. Now in GOING UP the main character is Maggie, who has always been an amazing secondary character in the previous books, but she shines so bright as the main character of her story! Maggie turns out to be even more vivacious and kookier than her bestie, Cici!

Maggie Vincent is a young woman who marches to the beat of her own drum, and never fails to let her freak flag fly!! She grew up in high society but fought against being labeled and held on to her strong individuality. Her parents tried relentlessly to set her up with guys who were in their social circles but only to face Maggie’s stubborn defiance that often ended up in embarrassment for them. But her parents were only coming from a place of love for their daughter and you can’t help but adore them for putting up with all of Maggie’s crazy choices of truly freaky boyfriends!

The story starts from when Maggie was sixteen and progresses all the way to the present. Maggie has always been a sci-fi geek and collector of odd Hollywood artifacts. She has a velvet portrait of Elvis in which his belt lights up, and many different celebrity hair clippings. Maggie is able to guilt her mother in chaperoning her to Comic-Con in San Diego. It is there that she meets the most perfect boy, named Finn. They spend the entire day together and it was an instant attraction that formed between them. They exchange numbers when Maggie had to leave with her mom and unfortunately she doesn’t hear from Finn again after several failed attempts to call him, his number is disconnected. But Finn never leaves her thoughts for many years to come. He’s the star of most of her naughty dreams and just might be the reason she habitually picks Mr. Wrong!

We follow her through to her college years, which is where she meets Cici. They were roommates throughout college and formed such a beautiful friendship. To me, I felt this was the relationship that was the crux of this story and although there is some romance and schmexy to be had, the majority of the story is about Maggie and Cici’s friendship. I had thought that Cici was the crazy and lovable heroine but where Cici was a total clutz and prone to get herself into the most embarrassing situations, Maggie is the most outlandish and eccentric person to ever inhabit the pages of a book. She was up for any kind of wild and crazy adventure and picked the absolute weirdest guys to be her boyfriends. Maggie dragged Cici with her to all her nutty escapades and even though she may have protested time and time again, Cici was always there for her friend and vice versa. This is the kind of friendship every woman should have!

Maggie does find her true love and he couldn’t be more perfect! They were destined to be together. Although the romance doesn’t start until the last half, I never felt like it took away from the enjoyment as I said the main focus for me was the friendship.

I love this series so much and will be sad to have to say goodbye to it. I hope that Katherine Stevens will consider writing at least one more book.

GOING UP is LIVE!! If you haven’t read the previous books, I highly recommend them. These characters will become a piece of you like they have of me!

Emery Robinson finds herself ending back home in Lubbock, Texas after having been gone for ten years while attending college and studying for her PhD. Catching her boyfriend in the act of cheating on her has her reevaluating her life and she decides that she needs to be near her family and friends again and maybe a different career path is what’s best as well. She gets roped into attending the wedding of Sutton Wright as her bestie’s plus one. Emery has a painful history with the Wright family and had sworn to never have any dealings with them again in her lifetime. She and Logan Wright were an item in High School for two years but when Logan decided to go to a University in California, he quickly severed ties with Emery without any real explanation. While at the wedding ceremony she catches the eye of the oldest Wright sibling, Jensen. Sparks fly between the two from the moment they set eyes on each other.

Emery knows right away who Jensen is as she had harbored a high school crush on him prior to dating Logan, but Jensen has no idea who the dark haired beauty with emerald eyes is. After they share a passionate kiss at the reception, Jensen is even more intrigued by the mysterious woman and it’s not until the next day that he finds out who she is. He decides to pursue Emery because he thinks that she’s only in town for a few days and they’ll be able to just have a quick fling, but once he spends one night with her he’s already freaked out over how strong his feelings are for Emery.

There’s plenty of angst and steam to keep a reader entertained throughout the story. Ladies get ready to fall in love with Jensen Wright!!

Darkness has a way of welcoming immoral self-indulgence. Whether it’s sex or murder, the night makes it a bit more personal, dream-like, since most of the world is in a state of suspended consciousness. Completely unaware of the danger that lurks among them during the day.

The Ripple Effect is a seriously dark and gritty story. There isn’t even a hint of romance within the pages of this book. The characters are deeply flawed and broken, and yet for some reason, you can’t help but hope the Hero and Heroine will eventually end up together. At times the scenes are beyond gory, so if you are squeamish, this may not be the book for you.

Dylan is just another unfortunate victim of the child welfare system. She’s been living in foster care since her crack whore mother died several years back. Her current foster dad pays nightly visits to her room, drugs her and then sexually molests her. She’s become addicted to oxy. The only thing to bring happiness to her life is her dog, Charlie, and the man who goes to the diner across the street every night who she has illicit fantasies about. One day, after school she is attacked by her foster dad and is put in a precarious situation which ignites her survival instincts and she ends up escaping with her dog and another little girl who was staying at the house as well. Desperate to make some money, she heads out to the streets in hopes of picking up a guy who’d be willing to pay her a couple hundred for some sexual favors. She ends up getting into the car of the absolute worst guy imaginable.

Ripley is an assassin for hire. This man definitely has a strong constitution and a huge imagination. Killing someone would probably be too mild of a term to describe how his victims meet their end. It is just too gory to even describe. But somehow he has a sexy edge to him, I mean it’s not like he’s killing innocent people. These men are in organized crime, pedophiles, rapists, and deal in human trafficking. During his stakeout on his latest mark, he sees what appears to be an underaged girl trying to turn tricks and she becomes an unwanted complication as she gets into the car of his next intended hit.

Rip follows them to an abandoned warehouse. When he gets inside he can’t help but be impressed by the tenacity of the young woman. She’s a fighter and does her best to protect herself from the slime who has made it clear his intentions are to rape and kill her. Rip ends up stepping in before Dylan is about to be taken out and she is knocked unconscious. When she comes to, the horrific scene that is laid out before her eyes has her gut wrenching from the grotesque visuals. Somehow she is able to reach the part of Rip’s deeply hidden humanity and he spares her life. He gives her $50 from the canvas bag full of cash that her dead potential rapist was carrying on him.

There seems to be a perpetual black cloud hovering over Dylan. She finds herself in need of some serious cash but having no home nor anyone to turn to, she recalls that bag of cash that Rip took with him and as luck would have it, Rip turned out to be the man from the diner who she would watch and fantasize about every Friday night. She knows when and where she’ll be able to find him and somehow get the chance to get her hands on that money.

I’ve never read anything by Keri Lake before but having seen so much love for her previous series, I couldn’t wait to dive into this book. I usually love for my stories to have some romance in it and although this one was lacking in that department, I still was very entertained. There were moments in the beginning where I wasn’t sure I could read it as I’m not a fan of child abuse and molestation but luckily the story doesn’t stay in that uncomfortable area for too long. I’m not too sure what to think of Rip at the moment. I think he had good reasons for getting into his line of business but thenumber of kills under his belt has nearly obliterated any semblance of an empathetic soul within him.

I do hope that somehow, Dylan is able to get out of the dire straits that her life has led her to and that maybe these two characters will find solace within the connection that is building between them.
