REVIEW – THE BED MATE (Roommates #3.5) by Kendall Ryan

SYNOPSIS

I might be a typical guy, but these last few years, my love life’s been anything but. From crazy ex-girlfriends to one night stands who are stage-five clingers, my relationships go bad faster than the milk in your fridge. The only constant has been my best friend Maggie.

Fresh off a bad breakup of her own, I invite Maggie to my guy’s skiing weekend knowing she needs an escape from reality. But then something funny starts to happen. I start noticing things about her that I never noticed before.

She’s beautiful and doesn’t know it, she’s funny without even trying, and now she’s suddenly single for the first time in forever.

Sharing a hotel room with her proves to be the tipping point in our very platonic friendship. Suddenly I want to put my hands, my mouth, and my … other parts … all over her gorgeous body. I want to claim her, make sure no man touches her ever again. But then her groveling ex shows up, and Maggie’s torn.

Am I ready to screw up the best relationship I’ve ever had for a shot at something more?

4Stars!

Sam & Maggie have been best friends for the last eight years. They met in college and now both live in New York. He’s a well known photographer who can’t seem to keep a relationship. He dates one woman after another never connecting to anyone like he does Maggie. Maggie has meant more to him than anyone else & has always been his one constant. Through the years they’ve kept things platonic not wanting to risk their friendship, but lately Sam wants a chance at something more. When Maggie’s long term relationship ends, they are finally both single & available. Sam doesn’t want to waste anymore time. He knows they belong together & he’s just been waiting for her to figure it out too.

Sam is on a big guys snowboarding/skiing trip in Colorado when Maggie and her boyfriend break up. He flys her out to spend New Year’s with him & they end up sharing a hotel room. Things quickly heat up between these two best friends who soon realize they are meant to be together. They share a rare connection that ignites when they finally give in to passion.

I love this series & really enjoyed this novella. It was a short, sweet, sexy friends to lovers romance!

-No matter how hard I looked, I would never find anyone that fit with me the way Maggie did. She was just…my person.

Maybe I had to settle for the fact that, no matter how hard I looked, I would never find anyone that fit with me the way Maggie did. She was just…my person. The puzzle piece that clicked with mine.

THE BED MATE is a ”friends-to-lovers” romance between two people who have been “besties” for over eight years. This is the final installment of the ROOMMATES series and I’m glad we are finally getting to the end. I really loved the first two books but the last few were just “ok” for me. This wasn’t the best book I’ve read under this trope but it also wasn’t the worst. It started off pretty good but then after a while, I found the Heroine’s obliviousness to the situation to be completely absurd, and I thought the Hero was a little too sweet and too good to be true.

Sam and Maggie have been the best of friends since they met in college. They’ve been there for each other through numerous failed relationships. They’ve never let their romantic relationships affect their friendship. In all the years that they’ve known each other, neither of them have been single at the same time. Sam has a plethora of relationships that have gone wrong, while Maggie has only had a couple of long-term boyfriends. Finally, right before New Year’s Eve, Maggie ends up breaking up with her boyfriend when she catches him cheating on her. She planned to hide away in Sam’s apartment while he was on a skiing trip in Colorado but he buys her a ticket to fly out and join him.

Sam has been in love with Maggie since they first met but never had the chance to reveal his true feelings for her since he was quickly placed in the “friend zone”. This holiday in Colorado might be just the push he needs to make his move.

Maggie has always thought Sam was gorgeous and at times she has had daydreams of him but never pursued her feelings for fear of ruining their friendship. Will she finally get a clue and see what everyone else has been trying to tell her all along?

REVIEW – SAVAGE by L.A. Fiore

SYNOPSIS

They call him a monster.

Pale blue eyes as cold as ice that see right through you.

He’s hard.

He’s damaged.

He’s dangerous.

He lives in a castle fit for a fairy tale, but he’s no prince.

He’s savage.

He’s brutal.

He’s a killer.

By an act of fate, our worlds collide.

They call him a monster, but he is my salvation.

*****4.5 STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

”There’s a beast inside me. It’s part of who I am…the savage part of my nature that allows me to do all the things I’ve done. Being with you has calmed those impulses, but it will come out from time to time. It’s inevitable.”

It’s been several years since I’ve read anything by L.A. Fiore and after having finished SAVAGE, I know I won’t be waiting that long to read her next book. She is going on my automatic must-read list! This story felt like a dark fantasy even though there really aren’t any supernatural beings in it. I loved the way the author’s writing paints a beautiful picture of the landscape of Scotland, it added to the dark and yet wildly romantic ambiance.

Lizzie Danton is a well-known and hugely successful artist. Her life would seem glamorous to most on the outside looking in, but she grew up in the most horrible of circumstances. Her mother was a conniving and despicable woman who only ever showed Lizzie cruelty and mentally abused her at every turn. When her father left them both, Lizzie’s mother dropped her off at a boarding school and pretty much abandoned her from then on. At the boarding school, she suffered even more at the hands of an abusive headmistress and another student who took great pleasure in bullying poor Lizzie whenever she had the chance. Fast forward to present day, Lizzie finds out that a woman she never knew existed, her great aunt, Brianna, has left her beautiful cottage and the acreage of land it sits on to Lizzie in her will. At first, she is hesitant to go to Scotland because of the connection to her mother but something inside her has her determined to learn more about her deceased Aunt.

As soon as Lizzie arrives in Scotland, she feels a sense of belonging. For the first time she feels like she has a place to call home, and when she meets her Aunt’s husband she quickly learns that she had a heart of pure gold and it brings some peace to Lizzie. While she goes about touring the town her Aunt called home, she runs into a handsome but seemingly dangerous man who is feared by most of the townsfolk. But Lizzie isn’t scared in the least as she doesn’t believe in gossip and is one to form her own opinions instead of being influenced by others.

Brochan McIntyre isn’t the most law-abiding citizen and he pretty much keeps to himself in his lush and expansive castle. What he has chosen as his profession would make him out to be a monster to most people but once you learn of the sad and horrifying life he was born into, you can’t help but feel your heart break for him. Brochan’s mother died during childbirth and instead of showering him with unconditional love, his demented father acted with nothing but pure hatred towards him. There were adults in his life that loved him unconditionally and did what they could to protect Brochan from his father’s wrath over the years but the damage had been done and it turned him into a cold and detached killer.

As soon as Lizzie and Brochan meet, you can feel that sizzling chemistry they share. Brochan has never felt anything for a women before but something about Lizzie pulls him to her like a moth to a flame. She is the first person to truly see him because she is a kindred spirit. Once the romance takes off between them the story gets incredibly steamy but there is always danger lurking behind every corner as the two seem to have countless enemies who mean to destroy any happiness they have a shot at.

Will their pasts continue to haunt them? Is it possible for Lizzie and Brochan to live ”happily ever after” when there are so many people out there who want to see them fail?

REVIEW – SPIDER by Ilsa Madden-Mills

SYNOPSIS

From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills comes a new standalone romance about a flawed hero and the woman he can’t forget.

“She crossed my path and changed my whole direction.”

He calls himself Spider.

I just knew him as the sinfully gorgeous guy with eyes of fire that fate sat next to me on the airplane.

I didn’t know who he really was…British rock star…my stepbrother.

He kissed me because he thought we’d never see each other again. We would.

Everyone warned me about him.
They told me he was ruthless and cold and screwed up.
They said he’d leave me with a hole in my heart.

Maybe I should have listened.
Maybe I should have built up a fortress to keep him out.
But I crumbled instead.

They say an unbreakable thread connects those who are destined to meet. If that’s true, then the moment he sat next to me, we were bound together forever.

He just had to figure it out before it’s too late…

I get a buzz from the connection that’s always been between us, that knowledge that she and I are two parts of a whole. I let out an exhale. I’m nothing without this. Without her.

SPIDER is one of those books that once you start it, you simply won’t be able to put down till you get to the end. It has so many of my favorite tropes that there was no way I wasn’t going to fall madly in love with this book! Get ready for an addictive story involving a gorgeous bad boy British rocker and his beautiful and vivacious little step-sister. This is one seriously angsty second chance romance that left my heart soaring by the time I got to the end.

Rose is a young woman who had a rough start in life. In her early childhood years, there were very few people who showed her true kindness, one was her grandmother who taught her to believe in herself and the other was a beautiful boy who offered her help during one of the lowest points of her life. Years later she is adopted by a woman who provides a stable environment and the best education that money can buy. Rose is months away from graduating High School and her dream is to attend New York University in the fall. On a flight back from New York City to Dallas, a gorgeous British Rock God named Spider ends up in the seat next to hers. There’s an electric undercurrent between them from the moment their eyes lock on each other. They both have this odd sense of familiarity. Flirtatious banter results in a passionate all-consuming kiss that knocks the wind out of the both of them, but soon enough they reach their destination and head off expecting to never set eyes on each other again. When they get to baggage claim the two are in for a huge shock when it turns out Rose’s adopted mother is Spider’s soon to be step-mom.

Spider is devilishly charming and has no problem with the ladies, but he uses sex as a quick fix and no one has ever gotten inside his heart. His childhood is plagued by loss and sadness. He became addicted to drugs during his teenage years, and at twenty-two, he hasn’t been able to kick the habit even after several stints at different rehab facilities. His relationship with his father has been strained and the atmosphere is filled with tension when they all arrive back home. Spider’s dad can see the looks that pass between Rose and his son and he’s not having any of it. He warns Spider to keep away from Rose.

As hard as he tries there is something about Rose that he can’t resist. The two are like magnets that have a strong pull towards each other. Just when Spider and Rose are about to give in to their feelings, things come crashing down on them in spectacular fashion and Spider is forced to push Rose out of his life. It’s not at all what he wants and completely soul-shattering when it happens. The angst from this point on in the story is quite unbearable. But deep down you will realize that Spider needs to deal with his demons and conquer them before he can be any good for Rose because even though he’s breathtakingly beautiful, your heart will belong to Rose and want only the best that life can offer her.

Years later we find that Rose has accomplished her dreams. She’s now taking graduate courses at NYU and dating her college sweetheart. It took nearly four years but Spider is clean and is a world-renowned Rock Star. But no amount of time or distance has diminished his feelings for Rose and he’s on a mission to win her back. Will he be able to get a second chance with his one true love?

Defiant Queen is the second book of the Mount Trilogy. Mount and Keira’s story concludes in Sinful Empire.

*****FOUR STARS*****

This was only ever supposed to be sex. Repayment on a debt owed. But it has spiraled out of control, and now I’m terrified it’s becoming something else entirely—which is impossible.

While ”Ruthless King” focused on Keira’s story, in ”DEFIANT QUEEN” we get to know our sexy and domineering alpha male, Lachlan Mount. I enjoyed this one so much more than the first book because, to be honest, Keira is an incredibly annoying heroine and Lachlan doesn’t become an integral part of that story until it’s almost to the 50% mark. In book one Lachlan seemed to be cold and calculating and it was hard to get a good read on the person he truly was on the inside, but we will learn in this installment that he was born into a dismal existence where he never knew what it was like to grow up in a safe and loving environment. All he’s ever known is the depths of cruelty that people were capable of. His abysmal beginnings are what helped drive Lachlan to become New Orleans’ most ruthless and powerful businessman.

Lachlan is perplexed by the feelings he’s developed for Keira. Never has a woman gotten to him the way she has. While he finds her stubbornness to be a turn on, it started to grate on my nerves. It seemed as if she was purposely fighting him on almost everything just to come off as a woman he will never be able to tame.

Business associates are starting to notice that Lachlan is losing some of his focus and that Keira might just be his weakness that can be used against him. He tries at times to put some distance between them but his heart is already deeply invested and he’ll do anything to make Keira his for the long haul. Lachlan sets a plan in motion to win Keira’s heart by sweeping her off her feet with grand gestures. It ends up softening her heart but also confuses her at the same time because she believes she is nothing more than a passing whim to Lachlan.

Just when the two are discovering their true feelings for each other, we get slammed with another huge cliffhanger of an ending. Someone’s life seems to be in jeopardy, but I’m not revealing who. You’ll just have to one-click this book to find out.

REVIEW – ON THE WAY TO YOU by Kandi Steiner

SYNOPSIS

What makes you happy?

That was the question Emery Reed asked me the day we met, and I couldn’t give him a single answer. I could have said my dog, or my books, or yoga — but I just stared.

And then, I got in his car.

It was crazy to take a road trip with a stranger, but after years of standing still, he was my one-way ticket to a new life, and I wasn’t going to miss it.

We shared the same space, the same car, the same hotel room — and still, we were strangers. One day we’d be laughing, the next, we wouldn’t speak. Emery was surrounded by impenetrable walls, but I wanted in.

Discovering his journal changed everything.

I read his thoughts, words not meant for anyone’s eyes, and the more I learned about him, the harder I fell. It turned out nothing made Emery Reed happy, and I wanted to change that.

I earned his trust by violating his privacy, and as wrong as it was, it worked — until one entry revealed a darkness I never knew existed, a timer I never knew was ticking.

Suddenly, what made me happy was saving Emery from himself. I just didn’t know if I could.

*****FIVE+++++++++ STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

Time. Such a simple word. Such a complicated concept. I’d had so much of it, too much of it, wasting away in that small town that I couldn’t wait to leave. I didn’t even notice the ticking of the clock on the wall while I worked at the diner, never considered how many days had passed each time a new birthday rolled around. I didn’t even acknowledge time until the day I left that town, until the day I met Emery. Then, time became a living, breathing, moving thing. And it was entirely too fast.

I can’t remember the last time I read a book by an author that was new to me that I ended up loving with all of my heart! ON THE WAY TO YOU is hauntingly beautiful in its sadness and Kandi Steiner’s exquisite writing has left an indelible mark on my heart. The characters are incredible and their flaws which to most might make them seem imperfect only helped to further endear them to me. I am completely in awe of the beauty of this story. I felt a gamut of emotions while reading this book and I can tell you it seriously was unputdownable. Never did I feel like I was on the outside looking in. It was as if I was experiencing everything with Cooper as she traveled across the country with the beautiful but broken Emery. I have found another author whose writing I have fallen madly in love with. I can’t even tell you how many lines I’ve highlighted in the book and how many tears have been shed while reading it. If you’re into emotional reads, this is one you simply must not pass up.

Cooper Owens has been biding her time until the day she would be able to leave the rundown trailer park in Mobile, Alabama that she has called home for nearly twenty years. She’s been working at a local diner for the past several years and saving as much as she can to pay for her tuition and living expenses in a college in Seattle. Cooper is a vibrant young woman, filled with determination and light. We learn early on that she lost the lower portion of her left leg in a car accident when she was twelve. This would destroy most people, but not Cooper if anything it made her stronger. You can’t help but fall in love with her from the very start.

During one of her early morning shifts at the diner, a handsome stranger sits at one of her stations. Cooper is a little stunned by how gorgeous the guy is and also caught off guard when he asks her–”What makes you happy?” A seemingly simple question but one she couldn’t find the words to provide an answer to. While making small talk with him, Cooper finds out he’s on a road trip by himself heading to Washington. After she tells him that’s where she is attending school in the fall, he offers to give her a lift. While hesitant at first, she eventually throws caution to the wind and takes Emery up on his offer and soon with just a few items of clothing and her little dog, Kalo, the two are off to start a journey that will bring them to some of the many picturesque locations across the country and it will also become a journey to self-awareness.

Early into their travels, Emery starts to have moments where he mentally shuts down and closes himself off to Cooper. At first, she doesn’t question it but as time goes on and tender moments pass between them sporadically, her feelings start to intensify for Emery. His darkness starts to affect her and Emery’s unwillingness to open up to Cooper has her resorting to deceitful behavior when she betrays his trust by secretly reading his journal in hopes of getting inside his head. Cooper knows what she is doing is wrong and every time she goes against better judgment and continues to read his journal you can’t help but feel trepidation as to what will happen when she is caught in the act. There’s just no way that it couldn’t happen, right?

At some point during their travels together, Cooper is able to break through Emery’s defenses and believe me he’s wanted her just as much as she’s wanted him but his belief in the fact that he’s not capable of giving her what she deserves, has helped him to keep his distance from her. But one night he’ll be too weak to fight it any longer and all I can say is I honestly don’t think I’ve ever read a more beautiful description of two people making love for the very first time. My sappy romantic self was over the moon and floating on a cloud high in the sky. It was passionate, and it was panty melting but the description was poetic and beautiful. It was Cooper’s first time and Emery made sure it was filled with tenderness and reverence.

Every time they had a good day, I felt all the warm and fuzzy butterflies fluttering in my stomach but I also knew that soon enough there would be days of darkness and despair when Emery was lost to the depression that plagued him and my heart broke with Cooper’s every time. I had such a feeling of foreboding through the second half of the book but I knew that I had to see things through with Emery and Cooper.

I don’t want to give anything else away. All I can say is that I am so honored to have been able to receive an advanced copy of this truly amazing story and I know on release day I will be gifting this book to some of my book besties!

For those of you who battle with depression or have been in love with someone who suffer from depression, this is one story that will surely hit close to home. I especially loved the author’s note after the epilogue.

REVIEW – AN EX FOR CHRISTMAS by Lauren Layne

SYNOPSIS

She’s making a list—and checking it twice. But is there a nice guy among all her naughty exes? The New York Times bestselling author of Blurred Lines returns with a charming friends-to-lovers rom-com.

When a psychic tells spunky, superstitious Kelly Byrne that she’s already met her true love, she becomes obsessed with the idea of tracking him down before Christmas. Kelly immediately writes up an “Ex List” and starts contacting old boyfriends to figure out which one is the one. When her college sweetheart rolls into town, Kelly convinces herself that they’re meant to be. The trouble is, sparks are flying with someone she’s never given a chance: her best friend, Mark.

Mark Blakely has watched the guys on Kelly’s list break her heart, and he’s not looking forward to watching them do it all over again. Mark’s always been there for her, but the timing’s never worked out for their relationship to be something more. Now, just as Mark is ready to move on, the sexual tension between them is suddenly off the charts. With Christmas morning around the corner, he just hopes Kelly will wake up and realize that everything she wants has been right in front of her all along.

It’s strange. Kissing him feels both wonderfully new and fresh, and yet comfortable and timeless, as though we’ve been doing this –or were meant to have been doing this—forever.

This really is like the song says–”the most wonderful time of the year!” Christmas has always been my favorite holiday going back what seems like a century since I was a little girl. I know most people are annoyed that Christmas decorations, commercials, and movies seem to be coming out way too early these days but I am like a kid in my element when the Christmas movie marathon starts in October on the Hallmark channel. To say that ”AN EX FOR CHRISTMAS” is now one of my top favorite Lauren Layne stories is a HUGE understatement. This story was everything that I love about holiday romances and so much more. It’s like I was given the PERFECT early Christmas gift. This is a whimsical, sexy, angsty and heartwarming tale of two best friends who were always meant to be soul mates.

Kelly Byrne is a third-grade teacher at a posh private school in Manhattan. It’s the start of Christmas vacation and she’s looking forward to going back to her cute little house in upstate New York, to be with her cocker spaniel, Rigby, and her close friends. While waiting for her train to arrive she meets a peculiar woman who seems to have the gift for seeing into the future. The woman tells Kelly that she’s already met the ”love of her life” and that he is coming back to her before Christmas. Most people would view this lady as a mentally disturbed person who escaped Bellevue but the thing about Kelly is that she’s very spiritual, believes in superstitions, and is into astrological horoscopes, and so she takes the woman’s predictions seriously. So for the next two weeks, Kelly’s plan is to get in touch with all of her exes in order to find her one true love.

When she arrives back home in Haven, she rushes to her best friend’s house, who also happens to be her neighbor, in order to pick up her dog, Rigby. Did I mention that her bestie is a drop dead gorgeous guy who is over 6 feet tall and is probably just about every woman’s fantasy? Mark Blakely and Kelly have been the best of friends since their early High School days, and throughout the years their friendship has remained strong and survived the many failed relationships they’ve each had over the past ten years. The moment we meet Mark it is painfully obvious that these two are meant to be and it just seems ridiculous that they haven’t figured this out yet. I was rooting for them to get their act together and to take that leap of faith towards their happily ever after.

It’s becomes clear when Kelly starts her mission to meet up with all of her ex-boyfriends that Mark isn’t the least bit thrilled with her plans and that Kelly has her head so far up her butt that she can’t see that what she’s so desperately searching for has been literally right in front of her face for so very long.

I knew that once the floodgates opened and when feelings were finally revealed that the passion Kelly and Mark have between them would burn white hot and I wasn’t in the least bit disappointed! WHOA!!

The story gets angsty while Kelly stubbornly tries to hold on to her trust in her silly magic 8 balls and “signs” to lead her to true love. But it’s her underlying fear of losing her best friend that seems to be holding her back from taking that scary first step towards her “HEA”.

Kiss after kiss, he makes sure each knuckle on my hand gets attention. ”I don’t see age with you, teacup. I only see you. Beautiful. Funny as fuck. Genuine and sweet.”

I have been a fan of K. Webster’s for over a year now because she made me fall in love with the dark reads. Although I’m still upset over the fact that she and a co-author ruined my psychotic doll maker, I guess I can’t seem to stay away from her books for too long. She may be the Queen of dark & disturbing romances, but she is also quite gifted in writing what some would consider “taboo” erotica that I proudly label as my guilty pleasure reads. I knew from the title of this book, LAWN BOYS, that this was going to involve an older woman with a younger man who probably has barely reached adulthood yet, and while I wouldn’t normally fantasize about a hot eighteen-year-old boy, for just a little while I am able to let go of my inhibitions and just enjoy this decadently naughty romance.

Stephanie Greenwood is a thirty-eight-year-old single mom and newly labeled grandmother. For the past seventeen years it’s been just her and her daughter. Her late husband was killed in a car accident when their daughter was only three. She made Lacy and her career her main focus in life and the thought of being with another man never crossed her mind, until her hotter than hell and entirely too young neighbor pays her a visit offering his landscaping and pool boy services in return for an internship at her advertising agency. Just being in the vicinity of Anthony Blakely, who is also only eighteen, has her pulse racing and her lady bits all tingly.

Stephanie is unnerved by the desires Anthony has awakened in her. She knows that her attraction to him is scandalous due to their twenty year age difference. She’s more than twice his age and definitely old enough to be his mother. But with these two being in close proximity day in and day out, and with Anthony walking around half naked with his delicious sweaty body on display, let’s just say Stephanie’s reluctance will be overpowered by the insane lust the two have for each other. I enjoyed every naughty escapade between them and get ready there’s more—Anthony has an equally HOT identical twin, Aiden! I wondered why the story was called LAWN BOY(S) and soon my question was answered. All I can say is Stephanie is one hell of a lucky lady!

When the three start to have a little fun, Anthony starts to show his fierce jealousy even though it was at his urging that his brother joins in on their sexy times. While Stephanie is a willing participant at first she makes it clear that Anthony is who she really wants.
While Stephanie and Anthony enjoy each other in their safe bubble eventually friends and family will learn about their secret relationship. Will this turn out to be nothing more than a sexual tryst or is it possible that two people with twenty years age difference between them can actually fall deeply in love and end up in a beautiful committed relationship?

REVIEW – THE OTHER BROTHER by Meghan Quinn

SYNOPSIS

I got the call. The dreaded call every child fears. My dad wasn’t well, and the man who had always been my everything needed me.

There was only one thing to do; pack up and head back to my hometown. I had finally made my dream life in the city with the great job and loving boyfriend. But was there really a choice not to go?

I found a wonderful job, a quaint house to rent, my boyfriend was working on joining me in Binghamton, and my favorite pizza place was only miles away. Life was good.

Until I met my neighbor.

It’s been three years since I’d seen Aaron Walters, and my God is he all kinds of sexy gorgeous. Figures. He was supposed to be my forever, the man I grew old with, but he had different plans. How can a man who ripped my heart apart still trip me up? How can he make me still want him now more than ever?

I’m tempted, I’m drawn toward him, I’m completely and utterly unaware that I’m dating his biological brother.

Now two men own my heart. The question is, which brother will I choose?

Deep down I know I was made for loving Amelia, but despite that, our paths never perfectly crossed. You can love someone with all of your heart, but if the timing is off, it never works out.

I had no idea when I read the synopsis for THE OTHER BROTHER, that this was the book I’ve been anxiously waiting for Meghan Quinn to write. If you’ve read ”My Best Friend’s Ex” and ”Twisted Twosome”, then you have already met our hero, Aaron Walters ‘aka’ Smalls. This guy has intrigued me from the moment he was introduced in the series. He seemed to be such a mystery. The guy is single and gorgeous and women seem to fall all over themselves to be near him but for whatever reason, he never seemed to be the least bit interested. I knew Smalls had a story, but never expected it to be as heartbreaking as it turned out to be.

Aaron didn’t grow up in a loving and nurturing environment when he was a young boy. His mom was addicted to drugs and she ended up giving both of his younger brothers up for adoption when they each were born. Over the years he was able to keep in touch with his brothers but only sporadically and yet enough to know that they were the lucky ones because they were brought up by very loving adoptive parents. Aaron always questioned why his mother didn’t seem to think he deserved to have a shot at a better life like his younger brothers and it left him a little bitter, but years later when he meets Amelia Santos, he finally gets the chance to experience true happiness.

Amelia and Aaron fall head over heels in love and are truly two halves of a whole. For nearly two years their lives are blissful but then Aaron’s old insecurities surface and end up tearing the couple apart. At the time Aaron didn’t consider himself to be worthy of Amelia’s love and feared that if he stayed in the relationship with her, that she would end up passing on once in a lifetime opportunities, and so he pushes her away and winds up breaking Amelia’s heart.

Fast forward three years and we are brought to the present where “Smalls” now co-owns a construction company with his two best friends and he also owns a beautiful two-story house in a cozy neighborhood. He’s the most beloved neighbor on his block because he never hesitates to lend a helping hand wherever he’s needed. He’s in for the shock of his life when he meets his new next-door neighbor, who turns out to be Amelia. Their reunion is anything but warm as Amelia’s heart was nearly obliterated when Aaron walked away from her, and even though it’s been three years, it would seem that she’s never gotten over that heartache.

Amelia left her boyfriend back in Astoria, NY and moved to Binghamton in order to be close to her father who suffers from dementia. The plan was for her boyfriend to also move up with her once he was able to get a job in the area as well. She’s completely thrown off balance when she comes face to face with Aaron again. And while he tries to be neighborly and even extends his hand in friendship, Amelia doesn’t jump at the chance to reciprocate. Eventually, Aaron is able to charm his way back into her life and even though he is aware she has a boyfriend, he’s determined to make the most of this second chance he might actually have with Amelia.

Get ready for some shocking revelations and I guarantee that Aaron’s story is going to tug at your heart. I know I shed a tear or two for all of the sadness he held on to and for his inability to believe that he was worthy and deserving of a happily ever after.

REVIEW – A CHARM OF FINCHES by Suanne Lacqueur

SYNOPSIS

“I swear. Give me one more chance and I will make the most of it.”

Ex-escort Javier Landes is asking for his third chance at love. And the third time is the charm. He meets an art therapist named Steffen Finch and what starts as casual deepens into a passionate relationship—everything Jav has ever wanted, and everything he fears losing.

Stef’s business card reads Curator & Sailor. His creativity and insightful nature have made him into a talented therapist, the one to call for tough cases. His professional success can’t conceal a deep need to connect with someone, but Javier Landes is the last person Stef expected.

Geronimo “Geno” Caan is Stef’s most challenging case. To cope with his ordeal, he’s allowed an alter-ego called Mos to make decisions, and now lives a double life within a web of lies. Under Stef’s navigation, Geno uses art to express what Mos forbids to be spoken aloud. But as Geno’s attachment to Stef gradually extends to Jav, the boundaries between professional and personal begin to blur.

Over the course of a year, Jav, Stef and Geno form an unexpected and unconventional triangle, revealing how men make love in times of war and how love is a great wisdom made up of small understandings. The long-awaited second book of the Veneryseries, A Charm of Finches is an epic tale of survival and secrets guaranteed to make you think and feel and remember.

*****Dee’s Review*****

One Million of Emotional Stars**********

You’re the best thing that ever happened to me.”
“Loving you is the best thing I do.”

The way I feel about this book is too intense, too much. My heart feels like it’s bursting with emotions that can’t be contained. I want EVERYONE to read this book. I know that sounds demanding, and you are right, it is; but I just want everyone to feel what I’m feeling, to experience the beauty, the brutality, the explosion of words that will take over your heart and touch every single emotion that exists inside of you. Do I think this book is for everyone? Yes and No. It’s a hard read yes, the subject matter is a tough one, but once you experience the humanity in which these characters are written, you’ll understand that this book is ultimately about love, and about giving ourselves a second chance, and that is something everyone can relate with. A Charm Of Finches is a powerful story that I will treasure forever.

Javier Landes days as an escort are behind him. It wasn’t easy for him to leave his old lifestyle behind, but Jav is ready to finally give love and his author career, a real chance. On a day that once brought him deep sadness, he meets Steffan Finch, a therapist that helps victims of abuse, through art. Their friendship turns into something deep and beautiful and while Stef is amazed by all the beautiful feelings he gets whenever he and Jav are together, Jav can’t believe he would get it so right on the first try and is terrified.

Stef is very successful at what he does, helping others deal with dark times has always been his calling. His new client Geronimo “Geno” Cann will prove to be special, and also challenging for both his personal life and his career.

Geno is only eighteen but already has lost more than others have in a lifetime. His demons are constantly chasing him, and whenever they catch up, is a terrifying battle, that Geno fears one day he’ll lose. In order to cope Geno has created a web of lies around him, that eventually become too heavy to carry. Stef being Geno’s therapist and friend brings Jav into the equation where friendship and love will help them all come into the light, after so many dark days.

Every single character in this book was wonderful, and each one gave me a lesson. I was able to relate and even find pieces of myself inside the pages of this novel. Nothing I say can do justice to the brilliant story, A Charm Of Finches is. I will forever cherish, hug, and re-read this book. I highly recommend it.

REVIEW – HOOKING UP by Helena Hunting

SYNOPSIS

Amalie Whitfield is the picture of a blushing bride during her wedding reception–but for all the wrong reasons. Instead of proclaiming his undying love, her husband can be heard, by Amalie and their guests, getting off with someone else. She has every reason to freak out, and in a moment of insanity, she throws herself at the first hot-blooded male she sees. But he’s not interested in becoming her revenge screw.

Mortified and desperate to escape the post-wedding drama, Amalie decides to go on her honeymoon alone, only to find the man who rejected her also heading to the same tiny island for work. But this time he isn’t holding back. She should know better than to sleep with someone she knows, but she can’t seem to resist him.

They might agree that what happens on the island should stay on the island, but neither one can deny that their attraction is more than just physical.

Filled with hilariously scandalous situations and enough sexual chemistry to power an airplane from New York City to the South Pacific, Hooking Up is the next standalone, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy from Helena Hunting, the New York Times bestselling author of the Pucked series and Shacking Up.

*****FIVE STARS******
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

There’s no vengeance in this. This isn’t a game for me and it never has been. I just wanted her. I want her. She’s going to take a huge piece of me with her, a part that isn’t just fueled by lust and desire, but something bigger. A connection I’m not sure exists more than once in a lifetime.

Helena Hunting is one of those authors that I put up high on a pedestal. She’s an automatic must read for me. I have absolutely loved this series from the start. Although you could probably read each book as a standalone, I would highly recommend that you read them all. We met Amalie and Lexington in “Shacking Up” and could tell there was something there between them even though Amalie was engaged to Lex’s cousin, Armstrong. But it’s in ”Getting Down” that we find out a secret regarding Lex and Amalie’s past. To say that I have been beyond anxious to finally get their story is quite the understatement. I was dying for the real Amie to resurface and for her to get the chance at true love that she so rightly deserved!

The beginning of the story has Amie facing one of the most humiliating circumstances of her life. After only having been married for a few short hours, her husband has literally been caught with his pants down with another woman at their wedding reception. Feeling lost and betrayed and desperate to numb the pain, she attacks Lex when she fortuitously discovers him hiding out in her bridal suite. Ever the gentleman, Lex resists Amie’s advances, even though it’s the very last thing he wants to do. Lex has had a thing for Amie since they met at a party when they were both single at the time. He set his sights first on her but then Armstrong swooped in and stole her from him. The cousins have a very long history of rivalry that has caused quite a lot of tension for the family.

A couple weeks later, Ruby convinces Amie to go on her honeymoon trip to Bora Bora that is fully paid for, in order to get away from the drama in New York City. Her cheating husband is being less than cooperative with her request for an annulment. The last person she expected to see at the airport was Lex. It seems that fate is finally stepping in and trying to right the mistakes of the past. While Lex and Amie wind up being alone together in one of the most beautiful and romantic settings imaginable, they’ll find it impossible to fight the primal attraction that has always existed between them.

The two decide to enjoy each other for as long as they can while away from the pressures and painful realities that await them back in New York, agreeing that once they leave the beautiful island, their romantic affair will come to an end. This will prove to be a difficult challenge for the two as they’ll each come to realize that it was never really all about the sex and that true feelings have emerged.

Can Lex and Amie defeat all of the seemingly insurmountable odds against them? Is Amie ready to give love another try or could she be making yet another bad decision with Lex, and is Lex truly in love with Amie or is it a case of besting his cousin?

*****Mel’s Review*****

5 Stars!

Amalie Whitfield is engaged to Armstrong Moorehead. He’s the son of the CEO of Moorehead Media, the company she works for. She works in their magazine branch and does marketing campaigns. She lives in New York & after a few bad boyfriend choices thinks she’s finally found the perfect guy. That is until she hears her new husband at her wedding reception getting it on with someone else. She’s shattered & her heart is broken. She needs to get out of town & decides to go on her honeymoon alone. Some time alone is just what she needs. Then she runs into Lexington Mills. Lexington is Armstrong’s cousin & the man she made a complete fool of herself in front of. She was drunk & distraught at her wedding after her life imploded, & she threw herself at Lex only to be rejected. She feels completely humiliated after trying to force herself on him. Then there’s the fact he’s kind of become her hero the way he’s always coming to her rescue lately.

Lexington Mills works with his father & his brother Bane at the Mill’s Hotels. He’s to keep the Mill’s empire running when his Dad retires. His Dad sends him out of the country on hotel business to look in on a resort of theirs that isn’t performing well. On his way to the islands he crosses paths with Amalie Whitfield, the only woman he’s wanted for the past year, but couldn’t have. She was marrying his jerk of a cousin, & he missed his chance, but now that Armstrong screwed up, maybe he can have another chance.

Amie & Lex are both on the island for about three weeks. Amie was so wrapped up in the idea of the perfect love, instead of finding something real & lasting. She decides to have some fun & let her rebellious side out. She needs a temporary distraction & decides she can’t resist Lex anymore. He’s gorgeous and now she wants him desperately. They decide to live in the moment & enjoy one another while on the island. Things between them are intense & out of control. Amie can be herself with Lex & soon he becomes her one constant. Can they have something real when they get back home, or will they end things when they leave the island?

-I’m attracted to Lex and have been from the moment I met him.

-I want this chemistry even though I’m afraid of it.

-I want this man so badly.

-All it takes from this man is a touch to melt me from the inside.

Lex isn’t sure he can leave his feelings behind when he returns home. He doesn’t want to just be Amie’s escape. He wants something long term with her. He’s found a once in a lifetime connection with Amie & he’s not sure she’s ready for everything he wants to give her, but she totally owns his heart!

Omg, Lexington Mills is delish!!! This man lived up to all my expectations! Swoon, swoon, swoon!!! This book was amazing! Laugh out loud funny & absolutely fantastic!
