REVIEW – THAT SECOND CHANCE (Getting Lucky, #1) by Meghan Quinn

SYNOPSIS

USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn delivers a smart and cheeky romance about love’s power to lift hearts . . . and curses.

It was supposed to be an innocent night, celebrating my brother’s birthday. Nothing was supposed to go wrong. We’d vowed to be on our best behavior after all . . .

But it only took one rowdy night with my brothers to flip my world upside down. One unlucky encounter saddled us with a family curse and the promise of doomed relationships. I laughed it off immediately. “Yeah, right,” I thought. “A love curse. Ha!”

Boy, was I wrong.

Word spreads quickly in a town like mine; rumors about that night soon made us the most eligible yet untouchable bachelors in Port Snow, Maine. As a subject of endless gossip and speculation, I could kiss my dating life goodbye.

It would have stayed that way if Ren Winters, the new girl in town, hadn’t crashed into my life. Brave, beautiful, and smart—her vivacious thirst for a fresh start has given me hope that maybe, just maybe, I can have one too.

Everyone wishes for that second chance . . . but could this really be mine?

*****FIVE++++ STARS*****
{Netgalley ARC}

Everything seems more real, more alive, just like the feeling in my heart, pounding, reminding me that no matter how often I deny it, the woman in my arms has a profound effect on me. Like I’ve come back to life after a long stint in purgatory.

With each book I read by Meghan Quinn, I become more in awe of her writing talent. She truly has a gift! THAT SECOND CHANCE was simply perfect! I loved the Hero, the Heroine, their friends & family, and the beautiful picturesque backdrop of Port Snow, Maine. I was consumed by the plot from the start. The story is super angsty, but still had little moments of Meghan Quinn’s signature humor thrown in that was just the icing on the cake. We are reunited with the main characters from “Two Wedding Crashers”, Rylee and Beck since the story takes place in the town these two call home.

Griffin is the oldest of four brothers, and these boys are the hottest bachelors in town, but none of the single women of Port Snow will risk getting involved with them. Word has spread throughout the town that they’ve got a love curse placed on them all by a vindictive palm reader. Almost every member of the Knightly family thinks the curse is rubbish, except for Griffin. He suffered a tragic loss not too long after the curse was placed and he’s sworn off love to protect his heart.

Ren is a sweet and delightful woman who has lived a somewhat sheltered life due to being the only child of super overprotective parents. She survived a horrible car crash over a year ago and now that she’s fully on the mend, she wants a change in her life. Ren moves across the country for a job as an algebra teacher in order to get some freedom and spread her wings.

Griffin and Ren’s first encounter would most definitely be considered a “meet cute” and soon after it’s as if fate with a little help from Griffin’s siblings, keeps throwing the two together. They’re instantly attracted to each other and their chemistry is hard to deny, but Griffin’s fears are nearly crippling and make for some hardcore angst.

Will love conquer all or will fear tear these two beautiful people apart?

REVIEW – METHOD by Kate Stewart

SYNOPSIS

Hollywood is a temptress, a trickster, a soul-stealing devil. I married an A-list player, knowing I come second place to his craft. But Lucas and I are a golden couple, a modern-day fairy tale.

I’ve never doubted what we built…until the sudden death of Lucas’s best friend has scandal rocking the Hills and shaking the foundation of our relationship.

I chose Lucas as my safe haven…he chose the role of a lifetime.

For the next three months, I’ll share my nights with a stranger, watching as he buries his pain, immersed in his role and living as someone else.

We’ve done this before. I tell myself it’s just another movie, and he’ll return to me.

I should’ve known this time would be different.

To get my husband back, I’ll need the strength of ten men.

As it turns out, I’ll have to go through two.

*****FIVE++++++ STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

Love isn’t the issue. It never was. We’ve had it in abundance, along with a healthy dose of trust. He’d rearranged our universe to revolve around the other, and once we did, we were both sealed in our fate, destined to be the moon and obeying tide. I glowed in his affection while he swept me away with one electrifying wave after another.

MIND BLOWN!!! I’m once again in awe of the incredible storytelling gift of this amazing author. Her words wreck my heart and then slowly puts it back together again. I feel like I’ve just gone ten rounds with Mike Tyson in the ring after having just finished ”METHOD”. This is truly one of Kate Stewart’s best works yet! Get ready to go on a wild and angst-filled ride with these amazing characters who will without a doubt steal your hearts.

Lucas and Mila are Hollywood’s current “IT” couple. Mila is living every woman’s fantasy. She’s a woman who is not in the industry who has won the heart of the biggest actor in Hollywood. From the moment these two met there was undeniable intense chemistry burning between them. They fell hard and fast. While their life has been like a living fantasy for nearly six years, their love is about to be put through the ultimate test by two epic life-changing events which happen at about the same time. Lucas wins the role of a lifetime soon after his best friend commits suicide.

Lucas is a ”method” actor. When he is working on a project, he completely immerses himself in the role he is playing. There is no Lucas—only the character exists and this time it seems as if he has lost himself completely. Mila has been Lucas’ rock and support system for years but this time feels different. Her love and trust in the man who owns her soul are being challenged at every turn.

The story switches from the present to many moments from their past and not all in chronological order, but still was easy to follow. Lucas and Mila’s journey is filled with so many intense and painful emotions that I really did feel thoroughly exhausted by the time I got to the end of this story, but I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

If time is the result of gravity shaping or warping reality—which it is, which is why clocks tick faster on a mountain than at sea level—then what impact do heavy, weighty feelings have on time? I hypothesize that sadness slows time, and happiness does the opposite.

In this last installment of the ”Laws of Physics” series, Abram and Mona are struggling to find the balance between their personal and professional lives. Now that the truth is out and they’ve confessed their love for each other, they are struggling with the time they are forced to spend apart due to their hectic schedules that have them often on opposite ends of the world.

Can these two find the balance between their high profile careers and their budding romance? Will Mona find the courage to face the demons from her past?

REVIEW – PRAYING FOR RAIN (Praying For Rain Trilogy, #1) by B.B Easton

SYNOPSIS

“None of this matters, and we’re all going to die.”

With only three days left until the predicted apocalypse, the small town of Franklin Springs, Georgia, has become a wasteland of abandoned cars, abandoned homes, abandoned businesses, and abandoned people. People like Rainbow Williams.

Rain isn’t afraid of dying. In fact, she’s looking forward to it. If she can just outrun her pain until April 23, she’ll never have to feel it at all.

Wes Parker has survived every horrible thing this life has thrown at him with nothing more than his resourcefulness and disarming good looks. Why should the end of the world be any different? All he needs are some basic supplies, shelter, and a sucker willing to help him out, which is exactly what he finds when he returns to his hometown of Franklin Springs.

As society crumbles, dangers mount, and secrets refuse to stay buried, two lost souls are thrust together in a twist of fate—one who will do anything to survive and one who can’t wait to die.

Perhaps, together, they can learn how to live.

Before their time runs out.

Maybe, one day, being treated like I matter won’t hurt so goddamn much, but I hope not. I hope it guts me every time, forever, as a reminder that this girl is a fucking miracle.

First off, can I just say how much I absolutely love the cover of this book? I was in full on cover-lust when I first saw it. Now, I am truly a big fan of B.B. Easton, but I did wonder if her writing was going to be as phenomenal as it had been with her ”44 Chapter” series. This time she wasn’t writing about her life experiences. Could she pull this off? I’m going to be honest, it took me a while to get into this story. Maybe it’s because I’m not certain that “dystopian” and “apocalyptic” stories are my thing, but as I said, I’m a fan of this author, and so I stuck it out.
I did eventually start to feel a connection to the story. I began to care about the characters.

During a time when the world was falling apart and chaos was running rampant, Wes and Rain find each other and although they started out as strangers they soon become inseparable.

Is the world coming to an end? Or is it all some crazy hoax? Will these two be able to survive the insurmountable odds that lay ahead of them? Can we wait until the Fall to find out what happens next for Wes and Rain? I’m counting down the days!!

REVIEW – ELEANOR & GREY by Brittainy C. Cherry

SYNOPSIS

Greyson East left his mark on me.

As the young girl who first fell for him, I didn’t know much about life. I did know about his smiles, though, and his laughs, and the strange way my stomach flipped when he was near.

Life was perfect…until it wasn’t, and when we were forced to go our separate ways, I held on to our memories, let go of my first crush, and wished for the day I’d find him again.

When my wish came true, it was nothing like I imagined.

I couldn’t have known when I took the nanny position that it would be his children I looked after, that my new boss would be that boy I used to know, that boy who was now a man—a cold, lonely, detached man.

The smile and laugh I had loved so much were gone, now distant memories. Every part of him was covered in a fresh pain.

When he realized who I was, he made me promise to do my job and my job only.
He made me promise not to try to get to know him, not to recall the memories I’d treasured all this time.

But, sometimes, I saw the boy I’d once known in his stormy eyes. I saw the Greyson who smiled and laughed, who had stolen a young girl’s heart, and there was no doubt in my mind that this boy was worth fighting for.

I was given a second chance with the one who’d left his mark on me. All I hoped was that somehow I’d leave a mark on his soul, too.

**Eleanor & Grey is a complete Standalone novel**

*****Patty’s Review*****

*****FIVE STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

We weren’t touching, but I swore I felt him. I felt his heartbeats. When he hurt, my heart cried. When he was in pain, my eyes were the ones to weep. That’s how close the two of us were. Our love story was so much more than a romantic tale. Our story was about friendship. About family. About looking out for those who always looked out for you. His soul was born to be loved by mine.

AMAZING!!! I am so in love with this story and Brittainy C. Cherry right now! I don’t think she has it in her to write anything that isn’t truly exceptional. ”ELEANOR & GREY” is an angsty, heart-felt story of friendship, innocent first love, and an epic romance formed through unimaginable heartbreak and second chances. I loved these characters. From the moment you meet them, you’ll find it hard not to care deeply for them, to feel their pain, and to shed many tears. I truly felt I was put through an emotional ringer from the angst and at times I thought it was beyond torturous, but I get that it made the story that much more poignant.

Eleanor and Grey became friends during their senior year of high school. Ellie was the shy, nerdy introvert, and Grey was the ”IT” guy at school. He was captain of the basketball team and the object of every girl’s affection, but Ellie was not impressed by Grey. She had judged him unfairly and was so completely wrong in her assumptions. Grey, on the other hand, was intrigued by Ellie and saw the beauty in her that others were too blind to see.

Grey comes into Ellie’s life just when she needed him the most. He becomes her best-friend and savior during one of the most painful times of her life. He helps break her out of her shell and together they build a beautiful bond that eventually turns into a sweet and innocent first love. But just as they start to explore this new aspect of their relationship, Ellie’s parents decide to sell their house and move to Florida. They try to keep in touch through emails, texts, and phone calls but after Ellie goes through a traumatic loss, the two eventually drift apart.

I didn’t enjoy this part of the story. I really hate it when a couple that belongs together are forced to go their separate ways and then many years pass before they reunite, and yet I understand that this has to happen in order for the plot to develop and to keep readers engaged. I was so upset that they went about their lives for nearly sixteen years without any interaction and that they were able to love other people.

When Ellie and Grey meet up again, it is not the reunion that I was hoping for and these two are not the same people that they were when they were seventeen. Life has been hard and it’s changed them. It’s Ellie’s turn to be the savior. She’s the one offering to help pick up the pieces and bring light back into Grey’s life. Grey is nothing like the sweet and loving boy he once was. He’s become everything he swore he wouldn’t be all those years ago when they were the best of friends.
Can Ellie help Grey find the sweetness that was embedded deep in his soul before it’s too late? Will Grey open up his heart to love again?

REVIEW – MEET CUTE by Helena Hunting

SYNOPSIS

The New York Times bestselling author of Pucked and The Good Luck Charm delivers a Hollywood happily-ever-after where a famous heartthrob falls for his ultimate fangirl in this sexy standalone romantic comedy.

Talk about an embarrassing introduction. On her first day of law school, Kailyn ran – quite literally – into the actor she crushed on as a teenager, ending with him sprawled on top of her. Mortified to discover the Daxton Hughes was also a student in her class, her embarrassment over their meet-cute quickly turned into a friendship she never expected. Of course, she never saw his betrayal coming either…

Now, eight years later, Dax is in her office asking for legal advice. Despite her anger, Kailyn can’t help feeling sorry for the devastated man who just became sole guardian to his thirteen-year-old sister. But when her boss gets wind of Kailyn’s new celebrity client, there’s even more at stake than Dax’s custody issues: if she gets Dax to work at their firm, she’ll be promoted to partner.

The more time Kailyn spends with Dax and his sister, the more she starts to feel like a family, and the more she realizes the chemistry they had all those years ago is as fresh as ever. But will they be able to forgive the mistakes of the past, or will one betrayal lead to another?

{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

I look back up at him, and my explanation gets stuck in my throat when I stop to really take him in. I recognize his face as one I’ve had endless fantasies about all through my teen years. And into my adult ones.

MEET CUTE is an ”enemies-to-lovers” romance with just the right dose of schmexy, heart, and a little dash of intrigue all rolled up into one perfect package. I instantly fell in love with the main characters and the plot. This is why Helena Hunting ranks high on my list of favorite authors.

Kailyn and Dax meet during their last year of law school. Kailyn acted like an overly excited fangirl because Dax was the star of her all-time favorite tv show and also her biggest Hollywood crush. He finds her to be incredibly adorable but for whatever reason, wasn’t brave enough to make a move on her. Then a misunderstanding causes Kailyn to view Dax as the enemy. The two don’t end up seeing each other until several years after graduation when Dax shows up with his parents at Kailyn’s office to set up a trust for his thirteen-year-old sister, Emme. The attraction is still there between them but Kailyn is still very much holding on to her grudge with him from their law school days.

The two meet up again several months later when Dax’s parents are killed in a car accident and Kailyn becomes the conservator of Emme’s trust. Dax is named his sister’s legal guardian and his aunt, who isn’t happy about the situation, ends up filing a lawsuit to gain custody of Emme. While Kailyn isn’t thrilled about being forced to spend time with Dax, and she’s also not convinced of his intentions where his sister’s inheritance is concerned, she can’t deny that deep down she has an out of control burning attraction to him.

While Dax is struggling with his new role as a parent and the legal battle with his aunt, he also can’t deny the strong feelings that he has for Kailyn. Can he manage raising a teenager, his hefty workload, his aunt’s lawsuit, and a new romantic relationship? Will Kailyn choose her lifelong career ambitions over love?

REVIEW – REPEAT by Kylie Scott

SYNOPSIS

From New York Times bestselling author Kylie Scott comes an irresistible new romance.

When a vicious attack leaves 25-year-old Clementine Johns with no memory, she’s forced to start over. Now she has to figure out who she was and why she made the choices she did – which includes leaving the supposed love of her life, tattoo artist Ed Larsen, only a month before.

Ed can hardly believe it when his ex shows up at his tattoo parlor with no memory of their past, asking about the breakup that nearly destroyed him. The last thing he needs is more heartache, but he can’t seem to let her go again. Should they walk away for good, or does their love deserve a repeat performance?

Love and life sure can be scary. But not living your best life, not loving as hard as you can…what a terrible waste that would be. And the man standing in front of me is the best of everything.

I found myself loving this story from the very beginning. Second chance romances are one of my favorite tropes, and Kylie Scott took this trope and added a cool twist that I have only ever encountered in one other story years ago. Three months after a messy breakup with her boyfriend, Clementine is physically attacked by a stranger which leaves her with a permanent case of amnesia. Clem shows up at her ex’s tattoo shop, hoping to get some insights into her past but is met with hostility from Ed and his co-workers.

When Clem explains her predicament to Ed, it seems to soften his attitude just the tiniest bit and as they come to spend time together, he notices that Clem is no longer the neurotic and insecure woman that she once was. These two get the chance to fall in love all over again as if it were the first time and it was so much fun getting to experience it with them. Plus there’s the added bonus of some mystery and suspense thrown in, which I have to admit, was pretty easy to solve and yet I still enjoyed seeing how the story unfolded.

This is going down as one of my top favorite reads by Kylie Scott. There were no sexy bad boy rockers to be found anywhere in this story and yet I loved it something fierce!

REVIEW – THE GIRL HE USED TO KNOW by TRACEY GARVIS GRAVES

SYNOPSIS

Annika (rhymes with Monica) Rose is an English major at the University of Illinois. Anxious in social situations where she finds most people’s behavior confusing, she’d rather be surrounded by the order and discipline of books or the quiet solitude of playing chess.

Jonathan Hoffman joined the chess club and lost his first game–and his heart–to the shy and awkward, yet brilliant and beautiful Annika. He admires her ability to be true to herself, quirks and all, and accepts the challenges involved in pursuing a relationship with her. Jonathan and Annika bring out the best in each other, finding the confidence and courage within themselves to plan a future together. What follows is a tumultuous yet tender love affair that withstands everything except the unforeseen tragedy that forces them apart, shattering their connection and leaving them to navigate their lives alone.

Now, a decade later, fate reunites Annika and Jonathan in Chicago. She’s living the life she wanted as a librarian. He’s a Wall Street whiz, recovering from a divorce and seeking a fresh start. The attraction and strong feelings they once shared are instantly rekindled, but until they confront the fears and anxieties that drove them apart, their second chance will end before it truly begins.

*****Dee’s Review*****

FIVE PERFECT STARS *****

This book is perfect. I devoured every word; the characters were multidimensional, and as I discovered every side, and every layer of their personalities, and their relationship, I couldn’t help but fall in love with this book.

Annika and Jonathan first met in college. They both love to play chess and they were paired to play together while attending a chess club meeting. Annika is very peculiar about her game, and she didn’t like that her usual game partner switched with Jonathan, so she’s not impressed with him at all, even if he’s gorgeous.

Jonathan is stricken by Annika’s beauty, and also the intensity in which she plays her game. By the time she calls checkmate he’s completely smitten with her. But not Annika, she’s different than most girls and won’t make things easier for Jonathan.

They become friends and then lovers. A beautiful and tumultuous romance that ends after Jonathan graduates college. They never forgot their college romance, and when they run into each other 10 years later, well… things get interesting.

Imagine losing the love of your life when you were young, that first heartbreak that is hard to move on from, and then imagine what would you say to them if you saw them again, years later…

Annika was different, but Jonathan loved her like no one else could. And he was her first and her everything. Can they get a second chance or will they simply hug goodbye, for good this time?

I absolutely adored everything about this book. The writing style was exquisite and the characters are unforgettable. This author is simply brilliant, and she wrote yet another amazing book, one definitely not to miss.

*****FIVE++++++ STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Publisher}

I can hardly remember the names of the girls who came before her, and after her, there was only Liz. But I can recall with unbelievable clarity almost everything that happened during the time I spent with Annika.
Probably because no one has ever loved me as fiercely and unconditionally as she did.

”Did you ever fall in love with a girl who was different? Not just from any girl you’d ever dated before, but from most people in general?”

This story was INCREDIBLE!! It’s definitely a page-turner! I mean, I could hardly put the book down. I fell so in love with the characters and their story and hoped with all of my heart that they would finally get that happily ever after they so rightfully deserved. This is a story about beautiful first loves, heartbreak, and second chances. The ending had my heart pounding out of my chest and it felt like I was balancing on the edge of utter devastation or pure joy!

The story starts off in the present which is 2001. Annika and Jonathan run into each other at a local grocery store in Chicago. It has been ten years since they last saw each other. You can feel that although their relationship ended, that there are many unresolved feelings between them, and then we are brought back to the past when they met during their senior year of college. Right from the start, we can tell that Annika faces challenges that most people never have to deal with. Everyday social queues that we take for granted, are quite difficult for Annika to decipher. Her roommate is her one and only close friend who often has to help her understand certain peoples’ motives. Janice was an angel and such an amazing friend to Annika. I loved the dynamic between them.

When Annika meets Jonathan at chess club, she’s a little closed off at first since he messes with her routine, but something about him eventually makes her feel at ease, and she does feel an intense attraction towards him. Jonathan is captivated by Annika’s beauty and her honesty. I think he definitely picked up on the challenges she faced but he also admired her for her determination to make things work with him. Jonathan never treated her as if she weren’t a normal girl nor was he ever embarrassed by her behavior.

His love for Annika helped to push her to do many things out of her comfort zone and in turn she gave him the love that he so deeply needed. But then life throws tragedy their way which ultimately results in their relationship’s demise.

Ten years have passed and it looks like there might be a second chance for Jonathan and Annika. Will they be able to put old heartbreaks to rest and start on a new journey together?

Make sure you have something strong to get you through the ending of this story. It wasn’t anything I expected and although it tangled me up inside, I also couldn’t help but feel so much admiration for Annika’s strength and determination!

Dylan Locke knows that pining over the young ingenue Audrey Lind is pointless. He can’t offer her what she wants. He definitely can’t give her what she needs. Thank goodness she’s half a world away, and he doesn’t have to deal with his attraction head on.

But fate has other plans for him, and when Audrey once again lands in his path, it’s only too easy to fall back into their easy rhythm. And then their easy banter. And of course, each other’s arms.

He tells himself nothing has changed. She still wants forever, and he still thinks tomorrow is long enough. But watching her search isn’t as easy as he thought it would be, and now Dylan must figure out if he’s really the love Scrooge he professes to be or if he’s been Fate’s willing victim all along.

I didn’t belong in her world. She didn’t belong in mine. Life after love was a desert. That was where I lived. That was my truth. Any vision I had of Audrey being there with me was a mirage.

The conclusion to the ”Dirty Sweet” duet started off a bit slow and I have to admit that it didn’t quite measure up to book one. It took me a while to figure out that the story was picking up two years after the last time Dylan and Audrey saw each other. I don’t know if it was the writing or possibly the recent time change that had my head in a fog. Eventually, though I was able to follow along.

This book is entirely told in Dylan’s POV. I was wondering where the sexy and dominant Brit had gone. He always seemed to talk and behave as if he were an eighty-year-old man. If I’m not mistaken, he was in his early forties, quite far from being an old man. That really bugged me a lot and his stubbornness about not wanting to be in a committed relationship was beyond irritating.

I don’t want this to sound like an entirely negative review. As I got further into the story, I did end up enjoying it. I loved how it ends. What can I say? I’m a sucker for an HEA!
