REVIEW – TIMID (Lark Cove, #2) by Devney Perry

SYNOPSIS

Willa Doon has always been shy. Her quiet demeanor was something she’s always embraced. That is, until Jackson Page moves to town. The one man she desperately wants to take notice struggles to remember her name.

Year after year, Willa stands by, watching as the bartender slash playboy drowns his demons in beer and sex. Then one night, he shows up at her door, suddenly aware that the girl he’s seen around Lark Cove is now a beautiful woman.

Except what he doesn’t remember is that this visit isn’t his first. They spent a night together once before. A night he’s forgotten, thanks to a bottle of tequila.

A night that crushed a timid girl’s heart, and set a broken man on the path to heal them both.

I was twenty-six years old. I had kissed one man, after which he’d forgotten. I ‘d never had a boyfriend or sex. I’d never been in love. All because I’d been waiting for Jackson Page.

After having read ”Tattered”, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the next book. Jackson and Willa’s story intrigued me. Unrequited love makes for an epic romance. Willa has been in love with Jackson from the moment she set eyes on him when she was only sixteen and he was the sexy older man who just moved to her small hometown. For years she pined over him and he had no clue that she existed. Nearly ten years later, Willa has grown into a beautiful young woman and finally, a light bulb goes off in Jackson’s head.

At first, I was completely engrossed in this story. After years of not even noticing Willa, Jackson’s eyes have been opened and he’s inexplicably drawn to Willa, but he messes up royally and winds up breaking her heart. Willa seemed to be a meek character at first, but she actually was pretty fierce and let’s just say she definitely made Jackson work to win her affections back.

The problem was that once Willa forgave Jackson and let him back into her heart, her meekness came back. She became a bland character. This had the makings of a five star read for me and that’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy the book. I think it needed a little more conflict. Issues were resolved too quickly.

Overall, there’s a healthy dose of steam between the main characters and we even get a bit of mystery and intrigue. And if you’re a lover of sappy HEA’s, you will love this one! I have become a dedicated fan of Devney Perry and even though this might not have been my favorite, I still am looking forward to the next book!!

Here are my overall ratings:

Hero: 3.5
Heroine: 3.5
Plot: 4
Angst: 3.5
Steam: 4
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 4
