This is pretend, but not the way she’s defining it. What is pretend is my show of control. Kimbra Jones has it all. I’d fall to my knees and beg her if I could make this weekend continue.

 

PLUS ONE is the first Aleatha Romig book that I have ever read and all I can say is that I was completely blown away by how much I truly loved this story! I know she is famous for her dark books and I did go into this one with a little trepidation because I wondered if she would be able to successfully write a RomCom and I am so happy to report that my doubts were unfounded! The storyline had me hooked from the prologue! Office romances, when done right, can be OH SO GOOD and my GOD, I nearly burst into flames from the scorching hot sexy scenes in this book!

Kimbra Jones is an HR manager for a pharmaceutical logistics company in New York City. She moved all the way from a small town in Indiana for this dream job. Life has been good to her in the career department but she hasn’t fared too well in matters of the heart. When her mom calls to find out if she’s still coming with her boyfriend to her cousin’s wedding, Kimbra starts to panic. Her family doesn’t know that she broke up with her boyfriend six months ago. She doesn’t want her family to know that yet again she is single but since the wedding is less than a week away, her options seem bleak. But then everything changes when she catches the CEO, Duncan Willis, in a compromising position in the office restroom with a female employee. Desperate times calls for desperate measures and she ends up “blackmailing” Duncan into being her ”Plus One” to the wedding festivities and in return she will keep his indiscretion a secret. Not only does he have to be her wedding date but he also has to pretend as if they’ve been dating for the last five months and they’ll be sharing a bedroom in her parent’s house for four days. Duncan is not the least bit put out by the situation and views this as a long awaited opportunity to get Kimbra into bed.

 

 

Duncan has fancied Kimbra for nearly three years. From the moment she walked into his office he had been captivated by her, and little does he know that Kimbra has harbored a secret crush on him as well. This wedding ends up being a welcome opportunity for the both of them even though they agree that they’re strictly in a ”pretend” relationship. Neither of them expected to feel an overwhelming attraction for each other and that they’d share such a deep connection.

The lines between fantasy and reality are blurred for the couple and soon enough both Kimbra and Duncan aren’t so eager to go back to the way things were. Will insecurities and past heartbreak keep them from taking a chance on love?

This book was simply amazeballs and there aren’t enough words in the English Dictionary that could successfully describe just how much I loved it! The heroine was endearing, the story was wildly entertaining, some of the secondary characters are a serious laugh riot, and it has a ridiculously sexy and swoon worthy Hero!

PLUS ONE is currently available! Make sure you bump this one waaaaaaaaaaaaaay up your TBRs!! I am truly hoping that Ms. Romig will write more books like this! It would be a travesty if she didn’t!

Lael Ramsey is the daughter of a successful record producer. Her dad owns the record label, Ramsey Records. He represents her all time favorite band, And Then. She has a massive crush on the lead singer & guitarist, Brad Snyder. She attends one of his shows when she is 14. She’s so starstruck she completely humiliates herself.

Seven years has gone by & she’s been obsessed with Brad for years. He’s one of the main reasons she loves music. His music has always inspired her. She writes songs & plays the bass guitar. She wants the opportunity to do what she loves, so when Brad’s band needs a temporary bass player for their upcoming tour, she hopes this is her chance to prove herself as a musician. She auditions and begins touring with the band.

I really enjoyed this fabulous rockstar romantic comedy. It was the first book Karina Halle has co-written with her husband Scott Mackenzie. They write beautifully together. It was fantastic!

Love—it’s a drug I’ve never tried because I’ve seen it kill so many others. Maybe I am the drug and deep down I know I’m no good. What kind of man needs this life I’m living? What kind of man wants to stand on stage and have tens of thousands of people scream for him? There is so much fakeness I have lost myself in and I’m so completely selfish.

ROCKED UP is the first writing collaboration between Karina Halle and her husband, Scott Mackenzie. I really enjoy a good rock star romance and these authors were able to create a story that for the most part kept me entertained. The writing between the two authors was seamless and although it is told in alternating POVs, the story never felt disjointed. If I hadn’t known that the book was co-written, I would have assumed that one author had penned the entire story.

Lael Ramsey has idolized and crushed on the lead singer of the group And Then since she was fourteen-years-old. Her father, who is a recording producer and who owns the group that Lael idolizes, ends up getting her backstage passes to their concert. The moment she met Brad Snyder was too overwhelming for her and she ended up fainting. Fast forward seven years later, Lael is given another opportunity to come face to face with her idol and adolescent crush, when her father asks her to pick Brad up from the airport. Lael has become a gifted bass player and songwriter and asks for the chance to try out to be And Then’s new bass player as the group has had to let go of their previous one due to drug addiction.

Brad is pleasantly surprised to see Lael at the airport and he hasn’t forgotten her over the past seven years. He notices that she has matured into a stunningly beautiful woman and is drawn to her. They seem to get along easily and feel at ease amongst each other. When he is ordered to bring Lael on as the group’s new bass player by her father, he’s a bit put off at first but when Lael insists that she be given the chance to try out for the spot instead, Brad and his bandmates are nearly blown away by her amazing talent.

When Lael is unanimously voted to be the new bass player, she heads out on tour with the guys while unbeknownst to her, Lael’s father has already laid down the law with Brad. This is to be a short-term gig so that she can get this out of her system and Brad is to keep his hands off of her. If he breaks the rules her father won’t hesitate to end his career. Well, of course, being the rebel that he is, Brad doesn’t keep his distance and neither does Lael. Being together day in and day out only ends up igniting an explosive passion between the two.

Can the two lovers come out of the experience unscathed when there are so many people who are against their union?

5 +++++ EXTRAORDINARY STARS 

A Hilarious and heartwarming story that is destined to steal the heart of all readers. This is Penny Reid style at its finest. Page after page, we get high doses of humor, smart writing, and sexy times. I know I say this every time I review a book from this series, but I really believe that Dating-ish might be my most favorite book yet. Penny outdid herself with Matt and Marie’s story, it was so good I’m still hugging my kindle.

Marie has been a victim of online dating on more than one occasion. When she had been ready to finally give up on the concept she goes on one more date, which unfortunately for her ends up being her worst one yet. Naturally, she has to share all the details of her horrendous date with her best friends, during one of their awesome knitting get togethers, when the guy from her date suddenly makes an appearance. Turns out the crazy but sexy dude from her date is Greg and Fiona’s neighbor, Matt.

Matt is into robots, he believes he can build machines that can replace human affections, and he needs Marie’s input from their “date” for his latest project. This is all fine because Marie also needs Matt’s help to write her latest article, which is about dating. The two enter an agreement where each will help the other with their career assignments. This wonderfully weird couple will explore together the modern age aspects of dating and/or the solutions to today’s human’s loneliness.

As always, but even better than the last book; believe it or not, we get a high injection of interactions from all the different characters from books past, which made my heart giddy with happiness. With this book, Penny Reid goes back to basics; balls to the wall with the quirky, funny, smart writing that we all love, her very best if you ask me.

No matter who you are, or what you are about, this book can translate to you. Because we’ve all been on terrible dates, we’ve all felt lonely or misunderstood, or been let down by love. But reading this story gives you hope and happiness, which seems to be Penny Reid’s mission in life, to make people happy or at least smile big for the duration of her book.

Friendship and passion for love, or for what you believe in, I believe are the root of all these wonderful stories, that even though they are all completely different from each other, go perfectly together. I urge you to indulge in the weird, the fun and the wonderful world of any of the Knitting In The City books.

5 “You Are My Person” Stars!

 

Marie Harris is a gorgeous woman living in Chicago & working as a contract writer/reporter. She loves her job and her life. The only thing she’s missing is love. She has a great group of friends. Almost everyone in her close-knit group has found their special someone. Marie wants that for herself but is tired of online dating. Just as she’s about to give up, she gets an alert from a site that they’ve found her perfect match. She makes plans to meet a man named Derek with high hopes that they will hit it off. Unfortunately, her date turns out disastrous. The man looks nothing like the picture she’d seen & on top of that he’s arrogant & just plain strange. She leaves annoyed and feeling discouraged.

 

Marie later has a run-in with her attractive but odd date from hell & finds out his real name is Matt Simmons. She learns he’s a professor at the University of Chicago who focuses on artificial intelligence. He’s passionate about his research & believes machines can help humans. He eventually begins to grow on her & they strike up a mutually beneficial deal. She realizes her first impression of him was wrong. Not only is he confident & funny, but he’s so damn sexy. He’s a brilliant nerd who brings out her playful side. She enjoys his company & while collecting date together they become the best of friends.

-I was beyond attracted to him. I was so far beyond platonic, I’d jumped head first into the deep, dark waters of desire.

-Everything about him felt like the perfect combination of heavenly and sinful.

Suddenly their friendship has turned more affectionate. As they are becoming more than friends, Marie wonders if he’d ever return her feelings. Soon she wants more than she thinks he would ever give her. Their friendship turns intimate as they indulge in their desire for one another, but can Matt give her what she deserves. She wants it all. She wants her person, her soul mate & won’t settle. Matt has become her crutch lately. She knows she’s important to him, but will he take that leap & put himself out there for love?

I adored this book so much! Every time I read a Penny Reid book I know I’m going to laugh & swoon hard over a new book boyfriend. She creates these beautiful men you can’t get enough of!

 

-I loved how he made me feel, like I was the most beautiful woman he’d ever known, both inside and out. He not only felt right, he felt like he’d been made especially for me. And I for him.

DATING-ISH the latest installment of Penny Reid’s Knitting in the City series is filled with the author’s silly and nerdy sense of humor which I happen to love so much. At times while reading this book, I felt like I was watching an episode of one of my favorite shows, ”The Big Bang Theory”! I fell in love with Marie and Matt from their awkward and comical first date! The book can be read as a standalone, even though all the characters from the previous books are in this one quite a bit. I’ve only read the first book and now I’m dying to go back and read all the ones I have missed! This was an absolutely fabulous and entertaining read!

Marie Harris is one of the last two in her circle of close girlfriends that is still single. She had been in a relationship for over six years and yet she has never experienced all-consuming love like some of her besties. She had tried joining an online dating site but after a long period of time of finding absolutely no prospects, she was resolved to living her life without romance. Marie was ok with focusing on her career and spending time with the terrific group of friends whom she loved dearly until that online dating service sent her an alert that they’d found her perfect match. She decides to be open and give this site a chance and so she makes plans to meet her soul mate at a local coffee shop.

Her date turns out to be disastrous. The man who shows up is not the man whose picture was displayed on his profile. Marie isn’t too disappointed since the guy is as gorgeous as a male supermodel. But it all goes to hell quickly when she learns that Dr. Matt Simmons is actually conducting a study with his colleague on single women in Marie’s demographic who turn to online dating services to find their Mr. Right. A little misunderstanding has Marie running for the hills and declaring Matt a psycho. And since fate sometimes has to step in to steer people in the right direction, Marie runs into Matt again during one of her knitting get-togethers at Fiona’s apartment. Turns out he’s Fiona’s neighbor but he’s also known Fiona for a long time since she used to baby

 

 

Matt and Marie are able to strike up a friendship after their initial misunderstandings are cleared up. Marie is a journalist and her new article is focusing on some highly unusual services that people pay for to feel the human connection. She’s also interested in using some of the data from Matt’s study in her article. Matt agrees to provide her with the data so long as she completes the questionnaire that he had planned on giving her on their first date. What started out as a mutual agreement to help each other with their work projects quickly turns into a deeply personal connection between them.

Unfortunately, they are both skittish and insecure when it comes to relationships and for a huge majority of the book, the two continuously miss clear signs of the growing attraction between them. It was beyond frustrating, to say the least. I wondered how two highly intellectual people could be so clueless about matters of the heart. It was obvious that the only way these two were ever going to find happiness with each other, was for one of them to take that huge leap of faith and risk getting their heart broken by the possibility of rejection.

The slow build to the steam was almost agonizing but well worth the wait and suffering once the passion finally ignited between the main characters.

It’s no secret that Nina Lane is one of my favorite authors. How could anyone not fall in love with the writing of the woman who created Professor Dean West? She has proven that she is definitely not a “one hit wonder” with this latest series. The ”Sugar Rush” books are decadently steamy with Heroes who will melt countless of panties and make many toes curl from the signature schmexy that only Ms. Lane can deliver. I get just a bit giddy when I think of all of the Stone men that we have yet to meet because so far each one has had serious sex appeal and their level of swoon has been almost record breaking!

SWEET SURRENDER focuses on the youngest Stone brother, Tyler. He’s twenty-six and still very much living the life of a wild and reckless frat boy. Tyler has never shown any interest in the family business and his family views him as the irresponsible one. His recent antics with a girl he was seeing casually, has landed him in some trouble and to help pay for some property damages, his father has ordered him to work in Sugar Rush’s library. It is there that he takes notice of his brother, Luke’s, executive assistant, Kate.

 

Kate Darling is completely dedicated to her work. She makes herself available 24/7 and her personal life is pretty much non-existent. She moved to the west coast from North Carolina after her father remarried and it was apparent that he no longer needed Kate to take care of him. Up until that point, it had always been just the two of them and Kate did whatever she could to take care of her dad and help out with his business. She’s pretty but in a shy and Librarian-ish way. Kate has had a little crush on a co-worker for the past year but he’s never taken notice of her. When Tyler witness Kate’s failed attempt at asking her co-worker out, he offers to help her get the guy in exchange for her assistance with getting the library organized.

Kate and Tyler end up running into each other outside of work and after hanging out for dinner one night, they both start to develop a serious attraction for each other. What started out as a “Pygmalion/My Fair Lady” scenario, quickly morphs into a ”friends with benefits” arrangement, when Kate asks Tyler to teach her how to be a sex kitten. She thinks that is the reason why her past three relationships didn’t last because all of her sexual encounters had been lukewarm at best.

 

Tyler doesn’t jump at the chance of sex without strings with Kate because he sees how incredible she is and deep down he knows that that kind of relationship would never be enough for him. This is all new to Tyler because he’s never wanted to pursue anything deep and meaningful with any woman before, but something about Kate makes him want to abandon his womanizing ways.

The moment they come together, their chemistry is like a category five sexual hurricane! Neither Kate nor Tyler expected that the sex would be as incredible as it was between them and being able to keep matters of the heart out of it, proves to be nearly impossible.

Tyler Stone is a gorgeous 26 yr. old guy from a wealthy family that owns the Sugar Rush Candy Company located in Indigo Bay, a town on the California coastline. He’s the youngest of the brothers and views himself as the family screw-up. The spoiled, rich, party boy with the trust fund. He’s never had any interest in the family business, & never been able to live up to the success of his siblings. He lacked responsibility & wasn’t known for his impulse control, so it was no surprise to anyone when he recently landed himself in trouble. As his punishment, his father has sentenced him to working in the company library in the basement. It’s time to grow up & work for a living, or at least until he pays off the damages of his latest disaster.

Never known for taking anything seriously, Tyler is shocked to now be tasked with whipping the library into shape. He’s been roped into doing a job he knows nothing about. He’s introduced to his brothers executive assistant Kate Darling, who is to help get him started at his new job. He quickly learns she’s brilliantly smart & great at her job. As they grow closer they both have trouble resisting one another. The sexual tension is out of control, & they decide to try a temporary friends with benefits relationship. Things heat up & they can’t get enough of each other.

I love the Heroes that Meghan March creates in her stories. They’re 100% alpha and skilled in the art of dirty talk. Well, the title of this story couldn’t be more fitting!! The chemistry between the two main characters is off the charts H-O-T!! This was one incredibly steamy and entirely too entertaining read and I can’t wait to get my hands on the conclusion!

Boone Thrasher is one of the biggest Country singers around. We met him briefly in the REAL DUET series when Logan was hired to remodel Boone’s classic muscle car. Boone is dealing with some unexpected drama when he learns that the girl he was planning on proposing to, has run off and married some Hollywood producer in Vegas. Now his personal life has become the latest fodder for the paparazzi. After one of his concerts, his buddy takes him to a local bar to drink his sorrows away in the safety of anonymity as this bar rarely has any customers. Boone meets a gorgeous spitfire who happens to be the bartender and the owner of the establishment. They do not get off to a pleasant start as Boone is still licking his wounds from being dumped and Ripley has a strict rule against getting involved with celebrities.

 

Ripley Fischer has a blind sense of loyalty to her father who has always been physically and mentally abusive towards her. She started running the bar for him when he became ill and could no longer take care of the place himself. He’s got a serious chip on his shoulder when it comes to her deceased mother and never lets her forget that he thinks the apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree when it comes to Ripley. When she meets Boone for the first time there is definitely a deep attraction there but she does her best to fight off those feelings.

From the moment I learned that Mia Asher was writing a new book, I had been anxious to get my hands on it. Firstly, I want to just give high praise for one of the sexiest and BEST covers I have seen in quite some time! It only proved to deepen my desire for this book! What I’ve come to know about this author is that she writes messy, complicated and angsty romances like no other!! But in this particular story, her words are nothing less than exquisite – they simply took my breath away. I was completely consumed with this book! I fell hard for the beautiful Sebastien Leroux!

Valentina Fitzpatrick has been a loving and devoted wife to her husband of nearly twelve years. Their relationship has had its ups and downs but it nearly ended over a year ago when she caught her husband in the act of adultery with one of his interns. The pain from his deceit still lingers in her heart even though she chose to fight for her marriage. Valentina’s weakness is the love that she still has for her husband, William. As an attempt to start over, William asks Valentina to come with him on a business trip to Paris. Once his business meetings are over, he promised her that they would take some time to be alone together and hopefully rekindle the romance that used to consume them. Ultimately Valentina ends up in Paris alone when William is unable to make the trip. This only succeeds in making her feel even more despondent when it comes to her marriage. I can tell you I was nearly dying from the anticipation for these two to finally give in to their deep attraction to each other, and once it happened, oh what a true feeling of relief it was!

As Max and Eden try to navigate through their newfound emotions they feel for each other there are other bigger obstacles they still have to overcome that could jeopardize everything.

 

I can’t wait for this book to go live so that you all can read it! I’m actually a bit jealous of those who will get to experience this story for the first time– you have such an incredible story awaiting you. This is one book that I plan on re-reading many times over.
