REVIEW – THIRTY DAY BOYFRIEND by Whitney G.

SYNOPSIS

I should’ve never agreed to this arrangement…

Thirty days ago, my boss—Mr. Wolf of Wall Street, came to me with an offer I couldn’t refuse: Sign my name on the dotted line and pretend to be his fiancée for one month. If I agreed, he would let me out of my employment contract with a “very generous” severance package.

The rules were pretty simple: No intimate kissing, no actual sex. Just pretend to love each other for the press, even though I’ve secretly wanted to knock that sexy smirk off his face since the first day we met.

I definitely didn’t need to think twice about this. I signed my name and started counting down the seconds to when I would never have to deal with his special brand of ass-holery again.

I only made it to one minute…

We argued the entire four-hour flight to his hometown, failed to make a convincing impression with the welcoming press, and right when I was about to knock that arrogant look off his face in real life? He purposely dropped his bath towel in front of me, distracting me with his nine-inch cock to “show me who the bigger person was” in our relationship. Then he gave me his trademark smirk once again and asked if I wanted to consummate our marriage.

Tragically, this is only day one.
We still have 29 more days to go…

Fabulous, fun, and sexy are the words that perfectly sum up Whitney G’s latest book! Out of all of her stories she’s written in 2017, this is going down as my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE. I was in love with it from the moment I read the prologue and by the time I got to the very end I had the biggest smile on my face and my heart was fluttering with happiness! THIRTY DAY BOYFRIEND is an office romance between an overbearing, control freak boss and his beautiful & feisty, but seriously overqualified executive assistant. Get ready for some major sparks to fly within the pages of this ”enemies to lovers” themed story.

Emily Johnson has been the right-hand woman to New York City’s most powerful and influential businessman Nicholas A. Wolfe, aka ”The Wolf of Wall Street” for the past two years. For a year and a half, she’s been desperate to get out of her employment contract because she despises her boss, or so she would like everyone to believe. Deep down she only admits to herself that the man gets her all kinds of hot and bothered. Emily has been going out on secret job interviews but she’ll soon find out that Nicholas’ influence reaches far and wide and no one is willing to cross him by hiring her. Emily is beyond irritated and never hesitates to unleash her snarky and sarcastic attitude on her boss to make him fully aware of just how much she loathes working for him.

Nicholas is a brilliant business tycoon, who started from the bottom and worked his way up to becoming the most respected and successful CEOs in all of New York City. He’s the city’s most eligible bachelor and is a “Page Six” favorite. His employees consider him to be a bit of a douche, and he’s fully aware of his reputation, but he also doesn’t care in the slightest. There is only one employee that he values above all and he’ll put up with her obvious animosity because there isn’t anyone who could fill her overqualified but sexy as hell shoes.

An opportunity presents itself to Emily which would free her from her job with the Wolf if she agrees to become his fake fiancée for a month so that he can sign a multi-billion dollar deal which hinges entirely on Nicholas proving that he is a devoted “family man”. Nicholas makes the proposal entirely too enticing for Emily to pass up.

While under the guise of being a happily engaged couple, Emily and Nicholas will no longer be able to fight their long-hidden desires for each other. Now the question is, what happens when their thirty-day contract expires? Will they each go their separate ways or is there a chance that they may have something that’s meant to last a lifetime?

5 Stars!

Emily Johnson is a beautiful 28 yr. old woman living in New York, & working on Wall Street as the executive assistant to Nicholas Wolf. Mr. Wolf is the CEO of the billion-dollar corporation Wolf Industries. He’s known as the Wolf of Wall Street, & Emily thinks he’s a total jerk, even if he’s a hot jerk. He’s stunning in his designer suits, & has repeatedly been Mr. Page Six’s Bachelor of the Year. Emily’s worked under him for the last two years. She has a corner office in Manhattan, a huge salary, & all the perks, but she still wants out.

Nicholas Wolf is used to getting what he wants, so when he wants to land a five billion dollar contract & the man he’s doing business with only wants to work with a family friendly CEO, his advisor suggests he change his image. Pretend to be engaged until he seals the deal. He decides the person that would be the easiest to pretend with is the woman that knows him best, his assistant Emily. He offers her a proposition she can’t refuse. A huge severance package & what she wants most. He will let her out of her employment contract if she agrees to be his fake fiancée for the next thirty days.

Nicholas takes Emily to his hometown in Blue Harbor where they act for the press, & try to tolerate one another. As the sexual tension builds their arrangement gets more complicated. Soon they aren’t sure what’s pretending & what’s real as feelings develop. After one month will either of them be able to walk away?

I loved this book so much! It was everything I love about a Whitney G. book. Fun, flirty, sexy, and hot as hell! A fabulous short read.

4.5 Stars!

Dane Hawthorne, Andrew Collins, & Avril Carrigan met in college their freshman year at Berkeley. They became roommates & the best of friends. The three were inseparable and are as close as family. All three are brilliant and now work together as business partners in Nevada running a BioTech company called Caterva. They are all extremely wealthy & very successful, but none have found someone special to share their life with.

Dane grew up in foster care & doesn’t trust easily. After being abandoned as a child, he’s guarded & doesn’t do love or commitments. Andrew is the lover and dreamer of the trio, & is still looking for the right woman. Avril just went through a bad break up, & needs a change. She knows Dane is a member at The Wicked Horse sex club in Vegas and asks him to take her to check it out. She needs a distraction & some fun, but Dane initially says no. Dane & Andrew have always been Avril’s protectors.

After 17 years of friendship Dane, Andrew, & Avril have never been anything but platonic. They’ve never gone there or risked their friendship, but when they all end up at The Wicked Horse together, lines get blurred, & things turn intimate. There’s always been a comfort & closeness between them. There’s a connection & trust that’s been developed over the years, but this is totally new territory for them all. Suddenly both men are seeing Avril in a new light. Their bond grows even stronger as they explore new connections with one another.

-What’s happening to you and me is something different, and we didn’t plan on this.

-“I’ve never felt this way about a woman.”

-I want him in every way possible.

Soon romantic feelings develop & two of the friends begin feeling something deeper. Boundaries were set to protect their hearts, but as two friends begin to fall in love can they navigate this new relationship without destroying the friendships. There’s an indescribable bond, incredible pleasure, jealousy, & deep emotion as these friends try to define & explore their relationships with one another.

I love this whole series! It’s unbelievably hot & oh so delicious! I adored these three and the beautiful friendship they share.

REVIEW – THE FORTUNATE ONES by R.S. Grey

SYNOPSIS

At Twin Oaks Country Club, there are the fortunate ones, and then there are the rest of us: the waiters, the caddies, the valets, and in my case, the cabana girls. Most days, I’m poolside in a pleated skirt, dishing out margaritas to tycoons and titans. It’s not exactly my dream job, but it does come with one perk…

James Ashwood.

He’s my silver lining in a custom black suit.

Besides being a legacy member at the club, he’s a tech mogul and Austin’s most eligible bachelor. Oh, and those dimples? Yeah, they make my stomach dip too.

On good days, I catch his sleek Porsche winding down the tree-lined drive. On better days, I steal a glimpse of his handsome profile as we pass in the hall. And on the absolute best day, I find him alone at the bar, looking for company.

“Come have a seat.”

Those four little words set me down a path I never could have imagined. Private planes, penthouse suites, and temptations around every corner make it impossible to keep my distance. His world feels decadent and wild—but overindulgence comes with a cost. Every kiss comes with strings. Every erotic encounter is a promise I’m not ready to keep.

When I pump the brakes, he hits the gas. James doesn’t want to go slow—he wants a commitment.

And the thing about the fortunate ones?

They’re used to getting what they want.

*****FIVE STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

I blink my eyes open to find him staring down at me with undisguised emotion—in fact, he’s looking at me as if I’m the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen, and it’s too much.

THE FORTUNATE ONES is going on my list of top favorites written by the talented R.S. Grey! Fans of this author are sure to fall hard for this story and for those of you who haven’t tried one of her books yet, I strongly recommend this one! There is a healthy dose of angst and it only helped to make the romance more intense for me. While I was annoyed quite a bit with the Heroine, there wasn’t anything that I could find wrong with the Hero. James Ashwood is sure to become a #1 book boyfriend contender for many readers out there!

Brooke Davenport is a young woman whose life is stuck in limbo. She works as a cabana girl for one of the most exclusive country clubs in Austin, Texas. Brooke loathes her job but it’s been nearly impossible to find a position as an au pair. She studied languages in college and speaks fluent French and Spanish. Brooke’s exquisite good looks gets her plenty of attention from the opposite sex but it’s also the main reason she’s unable to find a job in her desired profession. No woman wants Brooke living under the same roof where she would be in close proximity to their husbands even though she isn’t the kind of girl who would ever get involved with a married man. There hasn’t been anyone who has been able to capture her heart until she sets her sights on one of the most powerful and gorgeous members of Twin Oaks country club—James Ashford.

There isn’t a woman within the city limits of Austin who hasn’t had naughty fantasies about James. Brooke tries to keep her crush on him a secret but soon enough the two cross paths at the country club and after a couple of short conversations, he is propositioning her to be his plus one at a dinner party. Their first date ends disastrously and there are mixed feelings of hurt and anger between them, but there’s also no denying their white-hot chemistry. Neither Brooke nor James are able to fight their intense attraction for each other and they end up giving in to their physical desires and while most women would be floating on a cloud afterward, Brooke is beyond spooked. During their pillow talk, James admits he’s looking to settle down and raising a family! Who would have thought the roles would be reversed in this situation? But there is a huge age difference between them and while James has sown his oats, Brooke is just starting her life as an adult and wants to travel the world. Settling down is the farthest thing on her mind, which also stems from her mother’s abandonment of Brooke and her sister Ellie when they were much younger.

Throughout the story, Brooke’s constant push and pull behavior is beyond annoying! When she is forced to make an important life decision, will she choose wisely? Brooke is almost too stubborn for her own good and it might ultimately cause her to lose sight of where her happiness truly lays.

Here are my overall ratings on the book:

Heroes: 5
Heroine: 4
Plot: 5
Angst: 5
Steam: 5
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 5

THE FORTUNATE ONES is currently available! This is one of those romances that will completely sweep you away and at times have your gut wrenching but I promise you, this is a book you really shouldn’t pass up.

4.5 Stars!

Brooke Davenport is a gorgeous 25 yr. old woman living in Austin, Texas. She graduated from UT & majored in French & Spanish, and then spent a year traveling. She wants to work for a family & tutor abroad as an au pair, but until she lands her dream job, she still needs to pay rent. She comes from a wealthy family but wants to make it on her own. While she looks for her ideal job, she makes ends meet at the Twin Oaks Country Club where she’s worked as a cabana girl for the past three months.

The only perk of her job is the delicious eye candy that is James Ashwood. James is a rich, successful 36 yr. old businessman who knows how to wear a suit. He’s stunningly beautiful, & talked about by all the females at the club. He’s a legacy member, a tech mogul, & one of Austin’s most eligible bachelors. She’s only caught glimpses of him in passing, & seen him from afar in his Porsche, then one evening she comes face to face with her secret crush. He’s alone at the bar & asks her to join him. He’s even more gorgeous close-up, & she’s embarrassed by how affected she is by him.

-His eyes meet mine across the dining room. A ton of bricks fall on my chest. I’m paralyzed. And then he smiles, and it’s small, hidden, like we’re both in on a private joke, but there’s no time to read into it.

-That smile is dangerous. A girl could be convinced to do just about anything with a smile like that.

James is charming & sexy, and soon Brooke is completely infatuated with him, but when things begin to progress between them she gets scared & puts on the brakes. They have different life plans. He wants a commitment & to settle down, and she doesn’t want strings. She has goals & wants to be free to follow her dreams, but will love derail her plans?

I really loved this book and this beautiful man. James Ashwood was super swoony & I couldn’t put this book down. R.S. Grey has become a go-to author for me. I’ve read every book she’s written since I first opened one of her books. She always creates book boyfriends I fall in love with. I highly recommend this one! It’s fabulous!

”Being without you has been the worst kind of hell. With you, I don’t feel like a man defeated by his past. I feel like a man with a future.”

CAN’T LET GO is an enemies to lovers romance between a broken Hero and a feisty Heroine. I was intrigued by the couple while reading the previous book and I knew that their story was going to be one I could not pass up. Jude and Ryanne have incredible chemistry and whenever they’re in each other’s presence, you can feel the tension building. It was inevitable that they’d be giving into their passion and let me just say it was INSANELY HOT! I was not in the least bit disappointed!

Ryanne Wade owns the local bar in Strawberry Valley. She has had to deal with a lot of judgment and harsh criticism from some of the town folk throughout her years because of her mother’s tarnished reputation. Ryanne has made it her life’s purpose to be nothing like her mother and that ended up with her love life being non-existent. But there’s one man who gets her insides burning and also ignites her temper, and that’s the sexy as hell, ex-army ranger, Jude Laurent, who spends most of his time scowling and throwing insults at her.

Jude has suffered loss that would have obliterated most. A drunk driver destroyed his life one stormy night when he decided he was ok to get behind the wheel and ended up killing his wife and little twin daughters. Jude is but a mere shell of the man he used to be. He is plagued by his grief and unimaginable guilt he still feels over the deaths of his family. It’s been two and a half years since they passed and he has never had the desire to move on or to get romantically involved with another woman, but Ryanne has stirred something inside of him and he’s overwhelmed by his feelings that he’s not at all ready to face.

When a shady businessman decides to open up a nightclub across from Ryanne’s bar and he soon wreaks havoc on her life and livelihood, Jude jumps in to handle the security of her bar and also designates himself her personal bodyguard. This delights Ryanne since she can’t help but admit that she is extremely attracted to Jude but he’s as cold as ice and seems almost impervious to her charms. With each passing day, Jude is finding it hard to fight his attraction towards Ryanne and when they finally let go of their fears and give in to their feelings, they both agree that it will be a one-time thing. Once they’ve had a taste, neither of them are satisfied with the one and done scenario.

Ryanne has dreamed of traveling abroad almost her entire life and has a month long trip to Italy already paid for. So the two agree to continue their heated affair until she leaves for Italy in a few months.

Will they be able to let each other go when their temporary relationship has met its expiration date? Can Ryanne break through all of Jude’s defense mechanisms and ultimately own a piece of his heart?

Now I live a simple life as a creative director at Shimura Advertising in New York. All is good, until my boss cons me and my coworkers into spending two weeks in Colorado at Proton Sports’ sleep-away camp for adults, pitching their business. Guess who owns the rival company? Her. And she’s out to get me.

I might just let her win.

5+++++++++ Crazy, Beautiful Stars**********

The Ad Agency Series keeps getting better, and better with each book. Field Tripped Is a sexy romance, full of endless laughter. I literally had to take the day off, because I couldn’t put this book down. I had the best time reading this book, it made me giddy with excitement, and filled me up with beautiful anticipation for the holidays.

Field Tripped is the third installment of the Ad Agency Series, this book can be read as a stand-alone. Each book in the series is about a different couple. Each book unique, but all equally fun!

Eli, we’ve met in previous books as he works at the Shimura Ad agency as the creative designer. Recently he’s done some changes to his life. He’s traded his busy and complicated days for a more simple and peaceful existence. He quit his DJ/ Music producer career and even sold all his furniture and valuables in search of a more simple and meaningful life. He’s even subscribed to an app that gives him daily Buddhism quotes.

Eli just learned from his boss that the whole agency must go on a work trip to Colorado. To Eli’s hometown, where he left behind a very painful past, one he doesn’t wish to go back to.

Charlie is a girl who’s lost a lot. Ever since the death of her family, she’s lived a reckless life, full of extreme sports, countless one-night stands, and bad choices. Her heart has been broken for years and no matter what she does, nothing helps. But she’s ready for a change, and the Ad Agency competition in Colorado might be just the thing she needs to get the final push in her advertising company to help her finally close this chapter of her life, and start a new one.

The last thing Charlie expected was to come face to face with the man, she hasn’t even allowed herself to say his name, at this work event. The beautiful man who put the final nail in the coffin of her heart and then ran away to never come back.

Eli and Charlie never thought they would see each other again, but now that they are right in front of the other, the plethora of feelings is just too much. Hate, love, lust, melancholy, is all too much for these two crazy kids, but lucky for us we get to experience how this crazy adventure will unfold.

Nicole Archer writes happy books that make readers feel good. They are full of humor, second chances, and hope. Which is why I recommend them to EVERYONE. This third book was so amazing I couldn’t get enough.

REVIEW – CUFFED (Everyday Heroes, #1) by K. Bromberg

SYNOPSIS

From the New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, comes a new series about three brothers, the job that calls them, and the women who challenge them.

“I hate you. I never want to see you again.”

Grant Malone is not the reason I moved back to Sunnyville—at least that’s what I tell myself. Yet, those parting words I said to him back in third grade, ring in my ears every time a townsperson brings up one of the Malone boys. I thought time had healed my wounds. I was wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt when I finally saw him again.

Twenty years does a lot to turn a boy into a man. One who hits all my buttons—sexy, funny, attractive, and a police officer. But Grant is off limits because he knows too much about my past.

But I’m drawn to him. That damn uniform of his doesn’t hurt either. It’ll be my downfall. I know it.

What’s one night of sex going to hurt . . . right?

***

I’ve always loved Emmy Reeves.

That’s why I’m shocked to see her all these years later. The shy girl I once knew is all grown up.

Adventurous and full of life, she owns my heart now, just as much as she did back then. Convincing her of that is a whole different story.

I’ll give her the one night she asks for—like that’s a hardship—but when it comes to letting her walk away after, she has another thing coming. There’s no way in hell I’m letting her go this time without a fight.

REVIEW – A LITTLE TOO LATE by Staci Hart

SYNOPSIS

I wasn’t supposed to fall in love with the nanny.

When my wife left, she took the illusion of happiness with her, and I’ve been caught in a free fall ever since. For nine long months, I’ve been fighting to figure out how to be a single dad, how to be alone.

For nine long months, I’ve been failing.

When Hannah walked through the door, I took my first breath since I’d found myself on my own. She slipped into our lives effortlessly, showing me what I’ve been missing all these years. Because Hannah made me smile when I thought I’d packed the notion of happiness away with my wedding album.

She was only supposed to be the nanny, but she’s so much more.

The day my wife left should have been the worst day of my life, but it wasn’t. It was when Hannah walked away, taking my heart with her.

*****Dee’s Review*****

4 Romantic Stars****

What a sweet treat Charlie and Hanna’s story was. I could still smell the delicious powdery sweets Hanna bakes in the kitchen, and feel the romance these two characters were so afraid to give into. This book was filled with beautiful and passionate words that captivated me to no end…

Charlie is a very busy attorney, a single father now after his wife left him with his two kids, and in desperate need of help. Hanna is a Danish woman who has moved to The United States temporarily to work as a live-in nanny. Hanna had a terrible experience on her first job and after that disappointment she was ready to go back home but then the offer to work for Charlie came in, and as soon as he opened the door, Hanna saw the beauty, desperation, and complete loss in his eyes, so she decides to take the job.

Hanna is naturally sweet with the kids and everyone around her, and she’s teaching Charlie how he can be a part of his kids everyday life, she’s slowly turning his guilt and despair into hope. And Charlie and his kids will also give Hanna something so beautiful that will make it impossible for her to resist.

Both Hanna and Charlie are hesitant to accept the feelings and the happiness that comes with being together, and doing simple things like having dinner with the kids or even taking them to the zoo. They are both scared to admit how much they have come to need each other, and as the hurt from both their pasts threatens to reappear will it be a little too late for them?

This book has a plot with a little bit of a complicated subject but Stacy Hart really wrote this book in such a special way that I thought it was just lovely. The characters had such sweetness and vulnerability that from the moment you start reading you can’t help but to fall in love with them, and their tender story.

I love Staci Hart’s ability to write all different kinds of stories, she’s truly a chameleon, always bringing something different to her readers. She can write sexy, she can write explosive, and she can write tender, and lovely. This new book was truly a special read that without a doubt will sneak into the dreams of all its readers.

REVIEW – DRIVE by Kate Stewart

SYNOPSIS

Music . . . the heart’s greatest librarian.

The average song is three and a half minutes long; those three and a half minutes could lead to a slow blink, a glimpse of the past, or catapult the soul into heart-shattering nostalgia.

At the height of my career, I had the life I wanted, the life I’d always envisioned. I’d found my tempo, my rhythm. Then I received a phone call that left me off key.

You see, my favorite songs had a way of playing simultaneously. I was in love with one man’s beats and another’s lyrics. But when it came to the soundtrack of a life, how could anyone choose a favorite song? So, to erase any doubt, I ditched my first-class ticket and decided to take a drive, fixed on the rearview.

Two days.

One playlist.

And the long road home to the man who was waiting for me.

*****Dee’s Review*****

10 ROCKING STARS*********

This book checks every box on the list of what I exactly look for in a romance novel. Beautiful writing style, unique plot, multi-dimensional characters, explosive love scenes, tons of angst…and done the right way, and last but not least, a fabulous music playlist that enhances the experience of each chapter, as you read. Words and music will travel through your veins and straight through your heart. Kate Stewart takes her readers on an incredible ride where tears, smiles, and adventures will leave an everlasting mark in all our hearts. Solidifying once again, her top spot in my favorites authors lists.

We meet Stella as she turns twenty years old and is making big changes in her life in search of a bright future. She just moved in with her sister in Austin, Texas. She’s in school, her major is journalism and her dream, to write about music. Music is what moves Stella, what she is made of, and she wants to leave her mark in this world as she documents the rhythms and lyrics that people both love and hate. Her sister’s best friend is a moody and gorgeous drummer that Stella mostly hates but is also utterly curious about. Reid has a ton of issues, and the last thing he needs is a new friend or love, but he can’t help but be drawn to the beautiful, opinionated Latina, that is always trying to save him.

Reid’s demons are stronger than any feeling he might have developed for Stella, and as much as she wants to look the other way, she knows she will end up with a broken heart. But lucky for Stella, her road is a long one and it is full of music, love, friends, and of course very dark nights but also bright days.

Every new day brings Stella a new song; some sad, and some happy. Lyrics will inspire her to continue on, despite broken relationships, fantasies and new love adventures, she will forge on her dream of being a successful music journalist.

Stella’s story is told from present to past, taking us through the beautiful and heartbreaking journey of her life, and I gotta tell you that I loved every single minute of it. Her story is easy to love, easy to relate and impossible to forget.

Make sure to read this book, I can guarantee that you too will lose yourself in the music and the love. TOP TEN FAVORITE READ OF 2017!!!

It was always the music that reminded me where I’d been and where I was going. Aching from the truth of the lyrics, sweet relief came in the form of the beautiful man who appeared on the other side of the stage. He was desperately searching for someone, for meI stood waiting, as different tears—tears I’d sworn I didn’t have left—swam in my eyes.

In that moment, I let my love show and tears fall freely as Don’s raspy voice conveyed more to him that I ever could. Because our love was real. It was truth. And I would never take what we had for granted.

I’m sitting here trying to process all of the feelings this story instilled in me. All I can say is that with each book Kate Stewart writes, her talent shines brightly in technicolor. She is the Queen of ANGST. There is so much gut-wrenching angst poured into the pages of this book that I recommend a shot of whiskey before even attempting to dive into this one. Be forewarned that this is definitely a love triangle and that both men are so incredible in their own unique ways that they will both own your hearts and it will be hard to choose between them. I knew that no matter whom the Heroine picked, that my heart was going to feel like it had been ripped to shreds for the man she must end up saying “goodbye” to.

We are taken on an emotional and often heartbreaking journey with the Heroine, Stella Emerson, whose love of music runs deep in her veins. Her life’s playlist has gotten her through her lowest of moments and has even helped her come to deep revelations. Throughout the story, we shift from past to present and I must admit that a few times I was confused as to what point in time in Stella’s life we were at, but this was just a minor hiccup because once I got my bearings the story flowed beautifully for me.

Stella Emerson is a young woman on the path to self-discovery. She’s an extremely passionate woman and her emotions run hot at times. Lost love has shredded her heart over and over. Stella’s ready to put the matters of the heart on hold while she focuses on fulfilling her dream of becoming one of the top music journalists of her generation. While living temporarily with her older sister in Austin, Texas before her college semester begins, she meets the gorgeous and broody Reid Crowne. The animosity that instantly generates between them is a sure fire indication that what’s burning beneath is some blazing hot chemistry.

Life has been one uphill battle after another for Reid and at times it takes everything in him to make it to the next day. Stella comes barreling through his world and while her tenacity to learn all of his truths tests his patience, there is no denying that this impossible woman is stealing his heart, and he’s having the exact same effect on her. Stella and Reid eventually fall into a torrential romance obliterating other friendships/relationships in its path. But neither of them are in the right place in their lives to make this relationship a healthy one and so they go up in flames. This nearly destroys Stella because for the first time she knows that she had the real thing and all those times before were schoolgirl infatuations.

While licking her wounds, she meets Nate Butler, owner of SPEAK, a local newspaper. Their first encounter is intoxicating and Stella’s shocked at how instantly attracted she is to him. I mean the guy is older, gorgeous, and has a winning personality. He gives her what her soul needs at the moment. They fall into an easy relationship filled with friendship and incredible passion.

Things are turned upside down when Reid shows back up in Austin with his band, the Dead Sargeants for an exclusive interview they are only giving to Stella. Now that her past and present are colliding, will she be able to make the right choice? Or will things get so screwed up that she ends up losing both men?

My stomach was twisted up in knots from the 60% mark till the end. I shed quite a few tears and wasn’t sure that my heart would be able to heal once Stella made her choice because I’m not lying when I say that both men were so awesome it was very hard for me to choose between them, but there was one that sort of had a little bit more of my love.

Kate’s writing is absolutely exquisite in DRIVE. I am so very proud of her. I fell in love with so many of her words and I’m sure this book should catapult her to the top of the bestsellers lists. She deserves to be a New York Times Bestseller! Let’s make it happen people!

Here are my overall ratings on the book:

4.5 Stars!

Stella Emerson is a gorgeous Latina woman from Dallas, Texas. When we first meet her she’s nineteen & moving to Austin to live with her sister. This story takes us on her journey through her early twenties. Stella has a passion for music, & is studying journalism at UT. She wants to be an entertainment columnist. The Barbara Walters of the music industry. As a huge music fan, she wants to do interviews & ask the hard questions. The questions of a fan.

-Music was loyal and stayed with me, my constant, my comfort, and, at times, my enabler.

After being dumped by the lead singer of a band, Stella decides she’s done dating musicians. Then she crosses paths with two men who will greatly impact her life. They are complete opposites, but over the years she falls in love with both men. She’s lucky enough to experience love twice when some people never feel this kind of love in their lifetime.

This book was full of angst & beautifully written. I really loved Stella. She’s feisty, opinionated, & lives life to the fullest. She’s a glass half full kind of girl who follows her dreams & sees the best in those she loves. I also adored the men who own her heart. Sometimes we meet the love of our life, & the timing isn’t right, but maybe if it’s real we can get a second chance. This book is about soul mates, following your passion in life, & the love of music that unites us all.

-“You saved every part of me. The parts I thought were empty, you filled up. The parts I thought were lost, you brought them back to me.”

All The Stars**********************

Another epic novel by Author Emma Scott that feels like a beautiful hug to the soul. Forever Right Now is a story about second chances. Every character in this story carries some kind of disappointment, either against others or themselves, but through unexpected love, they will experience miracles that will make them forgive and learn to accept that there’s also good, even when all they could see was bad circumstances.

Darlene moves to San Francisco in search of a fresh start. She always has that little voice inside her head trying to bring her down, making her believe she can only fail, but regardless she keeps trying. She moves into a place that quickly turns into a home, full of people ready to give her love and friendship. There’s also the grouchy neighbor Sawyer, at first glance, he is gorgeous but also cold and distant, but Darlene’s larger than life personality will dig in deeper and realize that there’s much more than meets the eye when it comes to Sawyer.

Sawyer is a single dad trying to provide for his daughter. He is working hard to finish school and become a lawyer. His dream has always been to be a prosecutor and help put away the bad guys in jail. Sawyer is a pretty black and white kind of guy, he believes one should face the consequences of their actions, but little does he know that the new woman who just moved into the apartment upstairs will come like a tornado and change his life as he knows it.

These characters are complete opposites, yet together they are perfect for each other. Their stories are so unique and unexpected and reading it gave me a beautiful high from which I didn’t want to come down. But I guess that is the Emma Scott effect, she writes stories that grab you and take you away, she speaks the same language as your heart and makes you cry and smile all at the same time.

This story has something for everyone, like a treasure you didn’t know you were looking for. So much joy and humble lessons will stay with me forever, just from reading Sawyer and Darlene’s story.

This book is a must-read. What are you waiting for? Order it now!!!!

*****Patty’s Review*****

She gave a little gasp and her lips parted for me. I deepened the kiss while wondering how I’d lived twenty-four years without having kissed her before.
Kissing Darlene was kissing all of her. I tasted the sweetness of her, the energy she put into her art. Her breath suffused my mouth and I inhaled her.

This is life.

Emma Scott is one of those authors that I categorize as phenomenal. Her storytelling ability is simply pure genius. Just pick up one of her books and you’ll become an instant fan for life. Her popularity has nothing to do with hype and everything to do with her pure raw talent! Her stories are often haunting and they make your heart ache in a good way. This is my third book by this lovely author and I can tell you her characters are far from perfect, and it’s their flaws that make them truly beautiful. Darlene and Sawyer are sure to become fast fan favorites!

We met Darlene Montgomery in ”The Butterfly Project”. She was the sweet but self-destructive best friend of Beckett. Darlene is a very passionate person and her need to be loved has caused her to make some very bad decisions in the past. She was incarcerated for drug possession three years ago, but now she’s a recovering addict who’s been given a second chance by getting the opportunity to move from New York to San Francisco to embark on a new life. Darlene has a job lined up along with an apartment and all she has to do is make sure she stays clean and attends her NA meetings three times a week. Darlene finally feels optimistic about her future being in a city where no one knows about her tainted past. Some of the people who were close to her, like her family, have made Darlene feel like her mistakes and addiction are what define her as a person. But with this new beginning maybe she can work on healing her soul by shedding bad habits and returning to performance dancing. The last thing she needed was to fall in love with her gorgeous neighbor with a beautiful and precocious one-year-old daughter.

Sawyer Haas was on the fast track to a successful career in law as a prosecuting attorney. In his last year of law school and at the top of his class, he was looking forward to a highly sought-after internship with a prestigious judge but it only took a surprise visit from a one-night stand to turn his world upside down. Sawyer is no stranger to some of life’s inevitable cruelties. His mother was killed by a drunk driver when he was only eight years old and it has left a lasting impact on Sawyer. He has never been able to allow a woman to penetrate his heart, that is until he met his infant daughter, Olivia. When his ex disappears after dropping their daughter in his lap, Sawyer inevitably chooses to raise Olivia on his own. Almost a year later, he is nearing graduation and is holding on to hope that he will be able to make it to a year of having sole custody of Olivia so that he can make it official legally. Up until he became a single father, he had no problems with the ladies but his love life became non-existent by choice once he made Olivia his main priority. He wasn’t prepared for the beautiful new neighbor who would come into his life like a whirlwind and leave him captivated.

The build-up of the passion between them is a slow burn but once it ignites, a cold shower or two will be necessary.

Will a relationship between Sawyer and Darlene work out when they’ve fallen in love during a point in both of their lives where they have unresolved issues? Can Darlene trust in Sawyer enough to reveal all of her truths to him and will Sawyer’s feelings remain the same if he learns about her tarnished past?

REVIEW – WITHOUT MERIT by Colleen Hoover

SYNOPSIS

Not every mistake deserves a consequence. Sometimes the only thing it deserves is forgiveness.

The Voss family is anything but normal. They live in a repurposed church, newly baptized Dollar Voss. The once cancer-stricken mother lives in the basement, the father is married to the mother’s former nurse, the little half-brother isn’t allowed to do or eat anything fun, and the eldest siblings are irritatingly perfect. Then, there’s Merit.

Merit Voss collects trophies she hasn’t earned and secrets her family forces her to keep. While browsing the local antiques shop for her next trophy, she finds Sagan. His wit and unapologetic idealism disarm and spark renewed life into her—until she discovers that he’s completely unavailable. Merit retreats deeper into herself, watching her family from the sidelines when she learns a secret that no trophy in the world can fix.

Fed up with the lies, Merit decides to shatter the happy family illusion that she’s never been a part of before leaving them behind for good. When her escape plan fails, Merit is forced to deal with the staggering consequences of telling the truth and losing the one boy she loves.

*****FOUR STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by ATRIA Books}

No one would be able to determine from the outside of our house that our family of seven includes an atheist, a home wrecker, an ex-wife suffering from a severe case of agoraphobia, and a teenage girl whose weird obsession borders on necrophilia.

Merit Voss is a seventeen-year-old girl who not only has to deal with the normal teenage angst most kids go through, but add on her strained relationships with her very eccentric family. She seems to think that everyone else in her family has major issues but doesn’t necessarily notice that she too has some odd eccentricities. Merit collects trophies from garage sales and thrift shops. Whenever she is in need of a “pick me up”, she goes in search of a new trophy to add to her collection. Her family’s home used to be the town’s church. Her father hated the Pastor’s barking dog so much that he found a way to buy the church when the Pastor was not able to keep up with the mortgage payments. Now the entire Voss family lives in the semi-renovated church which still has the huge statue of Jesus on the cross in what they have turned into the family room. Merit’s dad ended up having an affair years ago when her mother was sick which later resulted in her parent’s divorce and her dad’s remarriage to the woman he ended knocking up. What’s bizarre is that her mother lives in the basement apartment of the church since she became severely agoraphobic.

Merit has decided to stop going to school and it seems as though the whole family is so wrapped up in their own lives that no one really notices what Merit has done. During one outing to a thrift shop she notices a cute guy checking her out and then somehow while she is leaving the store, the guy ends up kissing her. This is a monumental kiss that she feels zinging through her from her head to her toes, but then as if fate is messing with her, he ends up being her twin sister’s boyfriend. Merit is completely distraught over the fact that there is something her twin sister, Honor, has that she is finally envious of. The twins are nothing alike. While Honor is carefree and popular at school, Merit is more of a loner, quiet, and barely has any friends.

When Sagan, Honor’s boyfriend, starts showing up for dinner every night at the Voss’s, Merit is beside herself. She does everything in her power to keep her distance and to have as little interaction with Sagan as possible. Merit later meets a very odd man, named Luck, while shopping at the local supermarket and decides to give him a lift to his sister’s home. Turns out Luck’s sister is Merit’s step-mom, Victoria. It takes no time for Luck to fit right in since he’s as peculiar as the rest of the family members.

When Merit stumbles across some pretty huge and disturbing family secrets and then is forced by Sagan to see some of her own transgressions, she goes down a path of destruction and decides to call her entire family out on all of their secrets. Will uncovering all of the Voss family secrets tear them apart or heal all the wounds from the past?

Will a romance between Merit and Sagan be able to thrive or will Merit’s inability to acknowledge that she is drowning emotionally keep these two from finding happiness together. Merit will learn that things are not always what it seems on the surface and that she may have been too quick to cast judgment.

*****Mel’s Review*****

4 “You Bury Me” Stars!

-“Not every mistake deserves a consequence. Sometimes the only thing a mistake deserves is forgiveness.”

Merit Voss is a 17 yr. old senior in high school. She lives in a small town in Texas, in the middle of nowhere. She lives with her large unconventional, dysfunctional, unusual family, & often feels insignificant in her household, and almost invisible. She’s grown apart from her siblings, & lives in a home of secrets & lies. With so many strained relationships, she doesn’t feel like she belongs, or fits in anywhere. She thinks everyone hates her, & constantly feels like her family is falling apart. They’re screwed up & all have issues.

Merit’s family has a bad reputation in town, but she prides herself on being spontaneous, & doesn’t often think of consequences. She has a strange habit of collecting random trophies, & while out one day locks eyes with a random guy. Something about the way he looks at her makes her feel things she’s never felt before. There’s this electric connection between them, & she’s intrigued by him. His intensity catches her off guard & excites her. They share a kiss that completely rocks her world, & she can’t stop thinking about him, & wondering if he’s meant for her. When he unexpectedly pops back up in her life things get complicated as her two worlds collide.

-I can’t think of a single instance where I’ve ever been looked at like he’s looking at me right now. Like I fascinate him.

-The second he kissed me I was a goner.

-I wanted it all. I wanted to feel everything. That unexpected kiss made me feel alive.

-I feel the weight of my attraction to him. It’s so heavy, it feels like an anchor wanting to pull me under the water.

This was a thought-provoking book that has romance but is mainly about the life & family dynamic of Merit. It deals with love, forgiveness & some serious subject matter. It is a reminder that we live in a society where our peers put pressure on us, but often nobody judges us as harshly as we do ourselves. Nobody is perfect, & everyone has their own problems. This book really makes you think about what’s right & wrong, and not judging others since you haven’t walked in their shoes. It also reminds us how important communication is with the ones we love.

*****Dee’s Review*****

4 POWERFUL STARS****

Without Merit is a compelling story about love, family and the hardships of being a teenager. A book I think would be great to read and discuss with family or in a book club.

Merit Voss is seventeen and her life has never been easy. Her family situation is very unconventional and sometimes hard to be part of. Merit is angry and her heart feels heavy because if full of heavy secrets. But one day in the middle of the town’s square the eyes and the presence of a boy will make her feel light and happy for the first time in a long time.

Merit will learn a lot about herself through the life experiences of her parents, siblings and even strangers. Through pain and also laughter she will begin to recognize all the problems that surround her and also that there are also solutions.

In the end, one thing will be certain, and that is that family is forever and you can lose just about everything in life but one thing, hope.

Coming from a large and very dysfunctional family I was able to relate and even find comfort in this story. Colleen Hoover has the beautiful ability to create stories that reach deep inside your heart, stories that truly matter. Just like Merit, my heart felt lighter after I was done reading. Beautiful story!
