REVIEW – PRETTY AS A PEACH (Sex and Sweet Tea #4) by Juliette Poe

SYNOPSIS

Mainer Farms is steeped in family history, but it’s also deep in debt from the effects of the ever-changing farming industry. Not about to let his family’s legacy go under, Colt Mancinkus is willing to do anything he can to save the farm.

Darby Culhane is the new farmer in Whynot, North Carolina, and she’s proving to be quite the forbidden temptation for Colt. Darby isn’t looking for anything but a fresh start, and she’s got it all figured out. Get settled in? Check. Apply for the rural county grant? Check. Confrontation with the steaming mad, smoking hot local farmer? Well, that wasn’t on the agenda.

As pretty as she is sweet, Colt can’t help but be drawn to Darby’s…peaches. No really, she’s a peach farmer. Get that mind out of the gutter, and get on down to the farm to see what happens when circumstances force Colt and Darby to team up. They may just find that the peach trees aren’t the only things in bloom.

”I want to continue to get to know you. I want to see where this goes because I have this feeling deep in my gut that whatever is waiting at the end for us is going to be something beyond my wildest imagination.”

The ”Sex and Sweet Tea” series is like the Hallmark movie channel’s version of Sawyer Bennett’s romances. Normally her books contain a healthy dose of steam but her alter ego, Juliette Poe, likes to keep the steam very light and in the case of PRETTY AS A PEACH, non-existent. Don’t get me wrong, there doesn’t need to be gratuitous sex in a book to make it good. As long as the story is entertaining and holds my interest I don’t mind if the “sexy” is missing. This was a sweet romance between a gorgeous Farmer named Colt Mancinkus and a beautiful city girl, Darby Culhane, who is the newest resident of Whynot, North Carolina.

Darby has just moved to the town of Whynot, with her seven-year-old daughter Linnie. She is in the process of divorcing her husband of nine years and starting a new life managing a peach tree farm that her ex-brother-in-law has handed over to her. She wasn’t looking for love but it sure found her from the moment she locked eyes with Colt Mancinkus. Even though they were both competing for a grant from the state to help fund the costs to operate their individual farms which should have made them enemies, they ended up becoming instantly attracted to each other.

Their path to a ”happily ever after” is not free from bumps and roadblocks along the way. Darby’s daughter has a huge chip on her shoulder and is making life challenging because she’s not in the least bit happy about being relocated from the only home she’s ever known back in Illinois. She also clings to the hope that her parents will eventually reconcile. Also, Darby’s soon to be ex is fighting her on the divorce and will use any means possible to get what he wants. The man is cold and extremely ruthless.

Here are my overall ratings:

Heroes: 4
Heroine: 4
Plot: 3.5
Angst: 3

Chemistry Between Heros & Heroine: 4

{Audiobook Generously Provided by Publisher}

I was lucky enough to be offered an arc of this audiobook. I’ve been a HUGE fan of Mia Sheridan’s and her Sign Of Loveseries since I started reading them back in 2013. Most of these stories have been second chance romances and almost always the couple has had to face almost insurmountable odds and that was very much the case for Dane and Audra in ”DANE’S STORM”. I’m not really big on audiobooks but I had a long road trip last weekend and this book did end up making my drive enjoyable. The story is told in alternating POVs that transition from past to present seamlessly. I thought both narrators, Erin Mallon and Lance Greenfield did a terrific job. I’m a very picky reader and the reason I normally don’t like audiobooks is that I am always afraid the voices will irritate me and ruin my reading experience, but these two narrators were perfect!

Dane and Audra met and fell in love right before they were about to start college. Dane comes from a very well known and wealthy family while Audra’s family is nearly impoverished. From the moment Audra saw Dane sitting on a bench outside the window of her art class, she was mesmerized and never thought for one second that someone like Dane could ever spare her a passing glance, but they end up falling fast and hard. They feel a strong pull towards one another and soon enough an incredible passion ignites and Audra winds up pregnant. Their first year together is stressful and tumultuous having to deal with an unexpected pregnancy, lifelong dreams that have to be put aside and Dane’s evil grandmother who disapproves of Audra and makes her feelings known whenever she can. When tragedy strikes the young couple, they’re both overwhelmed with grief and instead of leaning on each other for support, they try to deal with it in their own way and the lines of communication are completely shut down between them. Their marriage ends in divorce.

Now we are thrust into the present, which is almost ten years later and Audra is trying to launch her business which she has been saving every penny she has to make it a success. She owns a building that Dane gifted to her while they were married and she plans to run her floral shop while renting out the other spaces in the building to wedding-themed businesses. She’s so close to launching when she gets a notice from Dane’s grandmother’s attorney that she has 30 days to vacate the premises. Apparently, she signed a prenuptial agreement and has no legal claim to the building.

Audra has no choice but to seek Dane out. She hasn’t seen him in nearly ten years and it’s the last thing she wants because the pain from their past still haunts her to this day. All those years ago Audra thought she was doing Dane a favor by letting him go. She believed that she was holding him back from a life that he desired but that was so far from the truth. When she flies out to San Francisco to meet with Dane, it’s evident almost instantly that the connection between them is still very strong. He promises to help sort everything out with his grandmother.

They head back to Colorado on his private plane and soon the couple is facing the most precarious situation of their lives that force them to rely on each other for survival. Once their defenses are forced to the wayside in order to survive, will they be able to let go of the past and fight for the future they were always destined to have together?

Here are my overall ratings:

Heroes: 5
Heroine: 4
Plot: 5
Angst: 4.5
Steam: 5
Chemistry Between Heros & Heroine: 5

REVIEW – TRANSCEND (Transcend Duet #1) by Jewel E. Ann

SYNOPSIS

“In another life, she was my forever.”

An unexpected tragedy leaves Professor Nathaniel Hunt a widower alone with a newborn baby.

He hires a nanny. She’s young, but well-qualified, with a simple life, a crazy name obsession, and a boyfriend she met at the grocery store.

Over time, he discovers she knows things about him—things that happened before she was born—like a hidden scar on his head, his favorite pizza, and how he cheated on a high school Spanish test.

She speaks familiar words and shares haunting memories that take him back to over two decades earlier when he lost his best friend in a tragic accident.

“I’m afraid of what’s going to happen when you realize I’m not her.”

Transcend is a sexy, mind-bending journey that uncovers possibilities, challenges beliefs, and begets the age-old question: is there life after death?

His shadowy figure ghosts toward me. I will never let this be more than an unspoken thought, but I love looking at Nate—the one in my head, the one in the picture, and the one before me. And it breaks. My. Heart. I love Griffin so completely. He’s everything. What’s left when you have everything? Nothing.

Mind Blown!!! I’ve said it over and over, but Jewel E. Ann is seriously one of the most talented authors out there! Her stories are so unique and I treasure them all. Every time I finish reading one of her books, I am compelled to reach out to her just to thank her for writing stories that soothe my soul. One thing you learn really quick is that she is one of the most versatile authors and never sticks to the same type of stories…this is what makes her so special! What can I say about TRANSCEND? It wasn’t anything I expected, and I was held captive by this book. It has an element that I have always been deeply intrigued by and I have to warn that there are the makings of an epic love triangle!! The two Heroes in this book are equally sexy and swoon-worthy in their own way. I am having the absolute hardest time choosing between them. Get ready to fall madly in love with this intoxicating story!

Swayze Samuels is a beautiful young woman who had an unconventional childhood. Her parents believed she was a child prodigy and sent her off to many different schools to help develop her “gift”. She felt like a normal kid and didn’t necessarily see herself as the child genius that her parents were convinced that she was. She just had a knack for knowing things that surpassed that of a child her age. At the age of twenty-one, she lives an ordinary life and has the most amazing and beautiful boyfriend who lives to worship her. After one of her sessions with her therapist, she runs into a man in the waiting room who she immediately recognizes as a long lost childhood friend. She starts reminiscing about the old days with him but the crazy thing is, he’s fifteen years older than she is and the childhood memories she brings up happened way before she was even born! WEIRD!! I had no idea what to think about this and neither did Nate–the supposed childhood best friend.

The next day, Swayze has an interview for a job as a nanny. She never is thoroughly shocked when she comes face to face with Nate, the man she met at her therapist’s office. He’s a little hesitant to hire her because of their weird encounter from the previous day but ultimately she does get the job. Nate’s wife died during childbirth and left him a widower with a beautiful baby girl named Morgan. Swayze bonds with Morgan instantly and she also can’t seem to stop herself from talking about a past with Nate that she couldn’t have possibly ever experienced. Soon Nate is starting to think that Swayze isn’t crazy because she reminds him of someone he loved and lost so long ago.

I can’t begin to tell you just how much I loved this story and how the written words of this author had me spellbound. I highlighted way too many passages in this book! I felt like my heart was put in such a terrible dilemma because while Nate is amazing in his own way, Griffin is equally sexy and wonderful. Swayze loves Griffin deeply and passionately but she also feels inexplicably drawn to Nate and even though she has these hidden feelings she stays true to her man. You can’t fault the woman for being attracted to her sexy and much older boss, and her determination to remain faithful was admirable.

There’s a little mystery that starts to develop towards the end of the book which ends with a crazy cliffhanger! I only hope that by the time we get to the conclusion that my heart remains intact!

Here are my overall ratings:

Heroine: 5

REVIEW – MY WAY BACK TO YOU (Second Chances Duet #2) by Claire Contreras

SYNOPSIS

Book 2 in the Second Chance Duet . . .

Love isn’t always about timing.
Sometimes you have to throw caution to the wind and roll with it.

I admit I wasn’t ready.
I know you don’t want to look at me, let alone talk to me, but please, let me explain.
Let me tell you all the ways my heart broke when you walked away.
Let me show you what our years apart have done to me.

Give me a chance to find my way back to you . . .

*****4.25 STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

One thing I learned in the aftermath of our love was that my heart can crack, break into a million pieces, and shatter like glass, but it kept beating.

MY WAY BACK TO YOU, the conclusion of the Second Chances Duet, had considerably less angst than its predecessor, which I was highly grateful for. I love a good angsty story but the first book bordered on torturous for me. After having finished it, I was left feeling absolutely no connection to Tessa or Rowan. I thought Rowan’s reasons for doing what he did were lame and eye-roll inducing. I ended up liking Tessa’s character in this book and overall I was happy with how things turned out. These two had been through enough and four years of separation was a bit excessive.

Years after Rowan and Tessa were torn apart by seemingly impossible circumstances, Tessa is moving back to New York with her four-year-old son, Miles, for a job promotion. Rowan and Tessa have bumped into each other a few times over the years, and in all that time she has kept the fact that he’s the father of her child a secret from Rowan and almost everyone except her grandmother and sister. She struggled with her decision and felt extremely guilty for keeping Rowan from his son, but she couldn’t risk her son being subjected to the likes of his evil wife and mother. When a very important project is assigned to her at work she is forced to spend a great deal of time with Rowan since her company is using his textiles and also helping to promote one of it’s newest business endeavors. When Rowan figures out Miles is his son, he’s a bit shocked and hurt but Tessa is the love of his life and all he wants more than anything is to be with his new family.

While he tries to get his life in order by making his divorce with Camryn final, Rowan and Tessa start to rebuild what they once had. But will the unpredictable and slightly unstable soon to be ex-wife go out quietly or will she do her best to keep the lovers apart for many more years to come?

Having a son and building her career seemed to bring about growth for the character of Tessa. I found that I could be empathetic towards her when in the first book I wasn’t really crazy about her. I continued to have a hard time warming up completely to Rowan. He’s still my least favorite Hero created by Claire Contreras. He should have learned from his father’s mistakes rather than repeating them. He also states a few times throughout this story that he wouldn’t have done things differently. Having control over his company still outweighed living a blissed-out life with the only woman he ever loved. If he kept to that motto to the very end, I definitely would have rated this book lower.

REVIEW – ONLY YOU by Melanie Harlow

SYNOPSIS

Nate Pearson is ridiculously handsome and wears the hell out of a suit and tie, but I’ve seen the parade of beautiful women leaving his apartment across the hall—a different one every time—and I want no part of it. When it comes to romance, I’m looking for something real, something that will last: the happily ever after.

As a divorce attorney, he loves to tell me there’s no such thing.

As a wedding planner, I choose to disagree.

We disagree on almost everything, in fact. Everything except James Bond. The only time we really get along is when we’re watching 007 flicks together, and I’ll admit—he has rescued me from a disaster or five. So when one of the baton twirlers from his parade leaves a baby girl at his door with a note that says “I’ll come back for her” and he begs me for help, I can’t turn him down.

But it’s a mistake.

Because watching him with his daughter, I start to see another side of Nate, a side that has my breath coming faster, my body craving his, my heart longing for him to change his mind about love and tell me there’s a chance for us.

I don’t want to be just another girl leaving his apartment in the morning.

I want to be the one he asks to stay.

*****FIVE STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

Why did lightning strike for some people, and not for others? Why did some of us pick the wrong people over and over again, and others got it right the first time? Why were we told as kids to listen to our hearts when things like geography or timing or luck seemed to matter so much more?

What did our hearts know, anyway?

ONLY YOU is a sexy, heartfelt, and angsty friends-to-lovers romance between a handsome divorce attorney who has a jaded view of love and commitment and a beautiful wedding planner with a big heart who dreams of having the fairytale ending. They may seem polar opposites but have been good friends ever since they became neighbors in their loft apartment complex. This is one of the rare occasions where I loved the Heroine more than the Hero. She is someone that I related to on so many levels. Nate drove me nuts with his push and pull behavior and I hoped that he would eventually get his act together so that he could be the man that deserved to win Emme’s heart.

Emme hasn’t made the best choices in the men she’s given her heart to in the past. She’s a beautiful soul who loves with her whole being and she has a hard time separating her heart from her head. She has dreams of finding the one man who she will share an all-consuming love with but has only managed to get her heart broken over and over again, and yet still she hasn’t given up on her dreams of finding her one true love.

Nate Pearson loves his life as a single man. There is never a shortage of women that he can have hot no strings attached sex with. He’s completely happy with his uncomplicated life that only revolves around his wants and needs—his world gets rocked when a little care package is left outside his front door with a note from a one night stand he had almost a year ago. To say that Nate freaks out when he learns he’s the father of a two-month-old baby girl is an understatement. Luckily, Emme was there to help him navigate through his first few days of fatherhood.

At first Nate is completely overwhelmed and not at all open to the possibility of being a father and having to make changes in the lifestyle he was accustomed to, but Emme puts him in his place and it’s like a light switch is flipped and he’s determined to be the best Dad for his little girl. While he’s getting used to being a father, Nate is also realizing that he’s developed deep feelings for Emme, and it scares him to death. He’s always kept himself closed off to love because loving someone has only brought him heartbreak in the past. They share many steamy nights of passion during stolen moments and even though they both vow to remain friends and that they’re not heading toward a serious relationship, there’s no denying that something special is happening between them.

At the beginning of the story, I was a huge fan of Nate. He was the sexy and funny neighbor who became insanely attractive with every passing second he started to bond with his daughter. But when he kept pulling Emme into his life and into his arms only to push her away the following morning by giving her the cold shoulder, I started to really dislike him. I understood he had emotional baggage but my heart broke for Emme, every time he turned into a cold bastard. I empathized with Emme and even though I knew there’s no way this would end badly since I’ve read several of Melanie Harlow’s books, I still couldn’t help but be pissed off with Nate.

When Nate has the chance to get his old life back, will he be able to transition back to it, or will he realize that he too wants that fairytale ending that he always thought Emme was foolish for believing in?

*****Dee’s Review*****

An Explosion Of Stars *******

There aren’t enough stars to properly rate Neighborhood Watch. I had read reviews from other people about this book and was stunned to hear people call Neighborhood Watch the best book of The Twin States Series. Only because, I’ve personally loved every single book, so much. I believe this is the first time I’ve read a series where I consistently adored every book. Each story has been intense and entertaining. All the characters complement each other so well, and I swear they just get better, funnier, and sexier. With this new book, I was once again blown away. Landon and Tori are a force to be reckoned with. Their relationship was like a Hurricane category five, taking every emotion, every single one of your breaths, and every beat of your heart on a whirlwind, so intense, you are not going to know what hit you. Truly a phenomenal story.

We know Landon is Liam’s twin brother. They are equally good looking and funny, but Landon has more of a darker personality. He is a bad boy through and through. We also know Tori has been harboring a crush on Liam, and know that he has a new girlfriend she’s devastated. In comes the good doctor, Landon to try to save her heart. Mind you, he does it in the least possible romantic way. In a way, he finally breaks her, completely, before putting her back together again.

Tori had been totally lost. She was just going through life watching out for everyone, and never paying too much mind about her own self. She never expected that it was going to be Landon, the crazy, sexy, dirty mouth doctor, who was going to be the light that would guide her on her new path.

I love how broken and messy Landon and Tori are. They love and fight with the same extreme intensity. Every chapter in this book is emotional and full of passion, it’s one of those stories you won’t be able to put down for even just one second.

Stylo Fatôme is going down in history for creating the most beautiful and multidimensional characters. And The Twin States Series is hands down, my most favorite, EVER!!!!!

REVIEW – TWO WEDDING CRASHERS (Dating By Numbers #2) by Meghan Quinn

SYNOPSIS

I don’t know what love is anymore.

Well, that’s not entirely true, but I’m going to tell you a little secret: I’ve lost the spark.

You know the kind of spark I’m talking about?

Where butterflies take flight in your stomach from two hands innocently colliding. Or catching your breath when you first meet someone attractive. Yeah, that spark.

Except I haven’t felt that feeling in forever; there is nothing left inside of me.

Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem–but I’m a writer on a serious deadline, and my editor is breathing down my neck for a romantic, Nicholas Sparks type love story. No pressure, right?

That’s how I find myself flying across the country to crash a wedding in the name of research, dress and heels stuffed into my small suitcase.

It should be the easiest book research ever. Drinking some free champagne, basking in the love of two strangers, and tapping into my romantic side. That will be a breeze. I’m a pro. I can handle this.

Until I mistakenly end up in the wrong hotel room, naked as the day I was born, with the sexiest human I have ever met staring me down, wondering what I’m doing taking a shower in his bathroom. I don’t think calling it research will get me out of this pickle.

But it will make for one hell of a story….

He’s the man who sets the bar unbelievably high so no one will ever reach it. He’s the man who makes an indelible impression on your heart. An everlasting impact on your life.

I am without a doubt one seriously huge fan of Meghan Quinn! Steamy romantic comedies with cocky and sinfully sexy Heroes are my weakness and Ms. Quinn always delivers and then some! Ever since I read her ”Binghamton” series I’ve become addicted to this author’s writing! The ”Dating By Numbers” series just keeps on getting better. We all met Beck Wilder ‘aka’ ”The Rebel” in ”THREE BLIND DATES” and he was the favorite of many readers, but I wasn’t one of them. I had my heart set on one of the other Heroes but let me just say that after having read ”TWO WEDDING CRASHERS”, I’ve fallen head over heels in love with this man!

Beck has been in a dating slump for over six months and at the urging of his best friends, he agrees to go to Key West with them where he will have to crash a wedding that his friends are attending. The promise of possibly meeting some beautiful single ladies was all the motivation he needed. While on the plane to Key West he becomes intrigued by the woman pounding on her laptop keyboard in front of him who ends up getting baby vomit on her when she attempts to help out the flustered young mother who was sitting in the seat next to hers.

Rylee Ryan is a successful romance writer who has been plagued by the dreaded ”writer’s block” and winds up on a trip to Key West when her best friend convinces her that seeing couples in love at a romantic locale might be just what she needs to get back her creative juices. She wasn’t looking for an island fling but when she meets Beck during a very awkward and embarrassing moment, there is no denying the sparks that are flying between them.

Seeing as they both went to Key West with the plans of crashing the same wedding, they become fast friends and partners in crime during their week-long stay. These two instantly mesh perfectly together. Not only are they extremely attracted to each other physically but they also have the same wacky sense of humor and enjoy trying to one-up each other with their attempts to tell embarrassing stories about one another to anyone they cross paths with. I can’t even count how many times I laughed out loud while reading this book. The humor is just that fantastic!

Intense sexual desire starts to build between Beck and Rylee but Rylee keeps putting on the brakes whenever they get too close to losing control. She’s never had casual sex and she knows that just one time with Beck will put her heart in jeopardy. But Beck is so skilled at the art of seduction that eventually Rylee has no other choice but to give in because she knows if she doesn’t spend at least one night between the sheets with him then it will be the biggest regret of her life. I didn’t know how she resisted Beck’s advances for as long as she did! I predict that plenty of panties will be melted after reading this book!!!

Soon after they share a night of endless passion, Rylee and Beck are heading back to their homes in Maine and California. While Beck wants to pursue whatever is building between them, Rylee flees and tries to convince Beck that it was only a meaningless fling for her. She’s no match for Beck. He has not felt so strongly about a woman in over eight years and he knows that Rylee is someone who could possibly be his forever.

Can Beck and Rylee make this long-distance relationship work? While they have crazy sexual chemistry and have the best conversations, they both have painful secrets that neither has been able to reveal to each other. Will stubbornness and insecurities keep them from taking the ultimate risk for true love?

She loves me.

TRIP was everything and more than I hoped it would be! The ”Remember When” series is one that I have held so very close to my heart for several years now because of the nostalgia I felt while reading it but mostly because of the Hero…Trip Wilmington. This character makes the story so darn fabulous. Trip has this special charisma that only a select few book Heroes I have come across possess. I fell hard for him from the moment he walked onto the pages of this story. I swooned over and at times I was gutted and crying ugly tears for this beautiful character. So to say that it was important to me that Tina had to get this story right, was an understatement. I appreciate that she took longer than initially expected to complete this book. Her determination to make this story in Trip’s voice PERFECT, is why T. Torrest is one of my all-time favorite authors. You know there have been countless of our favorite stories retold in the Hero’s POV and they have been huge disappointments, but I can honestly tell you that this is the FIRST time that I got a chance to be inside the Hero’s head during his retelling of the story and I actually loved it more than the original!!

I don’t want to rehash the plot in my review. What I want to express is how it felt like I was going home to be with family and close friends after not having seen them for many years. I loved reliving the teenage angst and heartbreak through Trip’s POV this time. Being in his head that very first moment he and Layla locked eyes on each other in their High School English class!! Oh, be still my beating heart when he writes her that secret love letter during that class at the very beginning of their friendship!! And did these two ever drive me nuts with their constant mixed signals, but I can remember not being confident in my own skin at that age and I get how they weren’t wise enough to see the signs that were right there in front of their faces.

Those months when they lost the friendship were no less painful when told from Trip’s perspective. I had always known he was suffering just as badly as Layla was and while I didn’t enjoy that his heart was just as torn up as hers, it did actually make me love him even more. Who knew that it was even possible?!!

Having read the original books, I knew how the story was going to end but it didn’t stop me from hoping for a different outcome and knowing that Trip truly agonized over the whole ordeal was even more heartbreaking.

Here are my overall ratings:

Hero: 5
Heroine: 4
Plot: 5
Angst: 4.5
Steam: 5
Chemistry Between Heros & Heroine: 5

REVIEW – WHAT HE DOESN’T KNOW (What He Doesn’t Know Duet, #1) by Kandi Steiner

SYNOPSIS

On the northeast side of town, there is a house.

The house was once magical, filled with love and joy and plans for the future.

Inside its walls are many things that belong to me — my books, the china from my mother on my wedding day, the beautiful cage once home to two birds, now empty, just like me.

And a man.

A man who also belongs to me.

A man I no longer wish to keep.

A man who, no doubt, has not slept, though the sun is rising. Because the house where he waits is where I laid my head to rest every night for eight years. Until last night.

No one who knows me would believe Charlie Pierce, the quiet, bookish girl who never made waves is pulling out of the driveway of a man who isn’t her husband.

But they don’t know me at all.

I don’t even know me.

Not anymore.

They say there are two sides to every story, and I suppose in most cases, that’s true. But the one I live inside of? It has three.

On the northeast side of town, there is a house.

But there is no longer a home.

Reese shook his head with a lazy smile, tucking his hands in his pockets. Then, he looked at me. I never knew so much could be said with a look. Sure, I was in tune with Cameron, or at least, I had been. We could share a look and communicate a hundred different things. But with Reese, there were no words behind the gaze. There were feelings. There was heat, and concern—want and denial. And I was like a moth drawn to that flame, wanting so badly to see inside it, to figure out how it burns, to live within its warmth. But I knew to touch it was to die.

FANTASTIC!! I was completely consumed by this story. This is not for the faint of heart and those of you who can’t do love triangles and cheating will probably want to avoid this book. I think it would be a travesty not to read this one but I do understand about having hard limits. My heart and mind were so twisted throughout the journey of the main characters that I had a tough time figuring out who was to blame. In most love triangles there usually is that one character that you can easily find fault with, but the author really blew that all away by the time we get to the end of this installment. There truly are three sides to this story and while I feel they all had to shoulder some of the blame, I had a difficult time deciding which man Charlie should end up with in the beginning. As the story unfolds I was starting to have a clear picture of who the right guy was, but then BAMthat ending left me right back at square one!!

Charlie Pierce lived a charmed life when she married her college sweetheart. Cameron wasn’t a man who was good with expressing himself with words but his actions spoke volumes about the love he felt for his wife. Three years into their marriage the couple suffers a devastating loss and they were never the same after it. For five years they’ve been merely existing. Each of them just a shell of the person they used to be, but Charlie loves her husband desperately and yearns to get back what they once shared. Then on her first day back to work at Westchester Prep, a blast from the past comes barreling back into her life.

Reese Walker was Charlie’s older brother’s best friend and the boy next door. She had been in love with him from an early age but back then their five year age difference kept them from being anything more than friends. Reese was always captivated by Charlie but knew that it wasn’t their time back then. When he went off to college in New York, they lost touch for nearly fifteen years. A few years back, Reese lost his parents and sister to a horrific act of violence. His grief had turned him into a lost soul without a place to call ”home”. Then he gets a teaching job in the town he grew up in and he takes it hoping that it will help give him some feeling of peace to be back where his family had set up roots. He had hoped he’d run into the girl who had stolen his heart all those years ago but never imagined she would be working at the same school as him.

All those years apart have not been able to diminish the feelings that Reese has had for Charlie but learning that she’s married was a huge disappointment, to say the least. Charlie starts off being the ”devoted wife” even when it’s been years since her marriage has been stable and her husband, Cameron seems to have become married to his work instead of an active partner in their relationship. But as Cameron continues to neglect his wife, she ends up turning to Reese for comfort.

The story ramps up with the angst and I can’t deny that it was severely gut-wrenching. Throughout almost the entire first part of this duet, we get alternating POVs between Charlie and Reese, which had me leaning towards Reese as the chosen Hero, but there was always this small part of me that was thinking that maybe it would be great to actually get inside Cameron’s head as well. I felt like it wasn’t fair to pass judgment on him when we couldn’t get his side of the story. We get pieces of him through Charlie’s voice and things we learn did have me wondering if there was so much more to Cameron.

After having finished the book, my heart is more confused than ever! I’m not sure who Charlie should end up with and I gotta say I was empathizing with her until she did something that pissed me off towards the latter half of the story. Even though she does feel remorse over what she did afterward, I’m having trouble forgiving her at the moment!

Here are my overall ratings:

Heros: 4.5
Heroine: 4.5
Plot: 5
Angst: 5
Steam: 4.5
Chemistry Between Heros & Heroine: 5

WHAT HE DOESN’T KNOW is currently available! The conclusion, WHAT HE ALWAYS KNEW releases on March 29th. At least the author was kind enough to not make us wait too long to get all the answers to our burning questions, but I have to admit I am dying already to get my hands on the next book!

REVIEW – RENNER’S RULES by K. Webster

SYNOPSIS

I’m a bad girl.
I was sent away.
New house. New rules. New school.
Change was supposed to be…good.

Until I met him.

No one warned me Principal Renner would be so hot.
I’d expected some old, graying man in a brown suit.
Not this.
Not well over six feet of lean muscle and piercing green eyes.
Not a rugged-faced, ax-wielding lumberjack of a man.

He’s grouchy and rude and likes to boss me around.
I find myself getting in trouble just so he’ll punish me.
Especially with his favorite metal ruler.

Being bad never felt so good.

RENNER’s RULES is another steamy addition to K. Webster’s Taboo World, which is a compilation of novellas that were written to satisfy her reader’s naughty fantasies. I swear each book gets even more provocative but always ends with a sugary sweet HEA. I do love a good student/teacher romance and this one happens to include a very sexy High School Principal who also happens to be the father’s best friend—definitely the makings of a good forbidden romance.

Adam Renner gets a call from his old army buddy who he hasn’t heard from much in over sixteen years. His friend just lost his wife to cancer and has been having a hard time parenting his teenage daughter. She’s starting to rebel and hanging out with the wrong crowd. He begs Adam to take her in and help get her back on the right path. Adam’s not thrilled at the prospect of having to deal with yet another rebellious teenager but he owes his friend his life, so he agrees to his friend’s request.

From the moment Adam and Elma meet they both feel an insane attraction for each other. This alarms Adam because he knows that it’s all kinds of wrong. He does his best to keep his desires in check but little by little Elma breaks down his resistance. Soon the two are throwing caution to the wind and taking huge chances by sneaking sexy times in Adam’s office at the High School.

This is a completely far-fetched story as we know just like in every previous novella that the couple ends up living happily ever after. They always seem to avoid being crucified for their taboo relationships, and yet I can’t deny how much fun these are to read!

Here are my overall ratings:

Hero: 4
Heroine: 3.5
Plot: 3.5
Angst: 3
Steam: 5+++++
Chemistry Between Heros & Heroine: 5
