REVIEW – TRIP by T. Torrest

SYNOPSIS

Calling all 80s girls!

Layla Warren first introduced us to Trip Wilmington in REMEMBER WHEN…
Now read his side of the story!

Trip Wiley wasn’t always a Hollywood movie star.
In fact, he wasn’t always Trip Wiley.
Back in 1990, he was better known as Trip Wilmington, the new kid in town.
New place, new school… same old story.
No big deal. It’s not like this is the first time he’s been forced to start over.
But seventeen years of city living hasn’t prepared him for life in the suburbs…
or for Layla Warren.
Layla is smart, funny, beautiful… the kind of girl every guy dreams about.
Trip should know.
He’s been falling for her since the first minute he saw her.
And his life hasn’t been the same since.

~

Prepare to travel back to your teen years… That time in your life before the real world kicked in, that limbo between adolescence and adulthood, that trial of hanging onto the past while figuring out where the future will lie.

With heart-shredding romance, steamy love scenes, and hilarious 80s references, readers of all ages will find themselves falling in love with TRIP all over again.

***Author’s note: This is no copy/paste job. This is a brand new story that fills in the blanks during Trip and Layla’s separation while still bringing all the magic moments of the two of them together.

It is highly recommended–but not required–that you read Remember When prior to reading TRIP.

READ WHEN YOU’RE IN THE MOOD FOR: nostalgic, steamy, angsty, sweet, funny

I searched her eyes for an answer. For penance. For benediction. For absolution.
And my God did she deliver.
The way she looked at me—Christ. No one had ever looked at me like that before. Like I was a fucking king. It wasn’t until that very moment that I realized what a complete idiot I’d been.

She loves me.

TRIP was everything and more than I hoped it would be! The ”Remember When” series is one that I have held so very close to my heart for several years now because of the nostalgia I felt while reading it but mostly because of the Hero…Trip Wilmington. This character makes the story so darn fabulous. Trip has this special charisma that only a select few book Heroes I have come across possess. I fell hard for him from the moment he walked onto the pages of this story. I swooned over and at times I was gutted and crying ugly tears for this beautiful character. So to say that it was important to me that Tina had to get this story right, was an understatement. I appreciate that she took longer than initially expected to complete this book. Her determination to make this story in Trip’s voice PERFECT, is why T. Torrest is one of my all-time favorite authors. You know there have been countless of our favorite stories retold in the Hero’s POV and they have been huge disappointments, but I can honestly tell you that this is the FIRST time that I got a chance to be inside the Hero’s head during his retelling of the story and I actually loved it more than the original!!

I don’t want to rehash the plot in my review. What I want to express is how it felt like I was going home to be with family and close friends after not having seen them for many years. I loved reliving the teenage angst and heartbreak through Trip’s POV this time. Being in his head that very first moment he and Layla locked eyes on each other in their High School English class!! Oh, be still my beating heart when he writes her that secret love letter during that class at the very beginning of their friendship!! And did these two ever drive me nuts with their constant mixed signals, but I can remember not being confident in my own skin at that age and I get how they weren’t wise enough to see the signs that were right there in front of their faces.

Those months when they lost the friendship were no less painful when told from Trip’s perspective. I had always known he was suffering just as badly as Layla was and while I didn’t enjoy that his heart was just as torn up as hers, it did actually make me love him even more. Who knew that it was even possible?!!

Having read the original books, I knew how the story was going to end but it didn’t stop me from hoping for a different outcome and knowing that Trip truly agonized over the whole ordeal was even more heartbreaking.

Here are my overall ratings:

Hero: 5
Heroine: 4
Plot: 5
Angst: 4.5
Steam: 5
Chemistry Between Heros & Heroine: 5

TRIP released on March 15th! I hope that you all will give this book a chance. It’s only 99 cents on Amazon and worth so much more in my opinion!! Believe me, if you haven’t met Trip, you’ll want to make some time in the near future to meet this truly phenomenal book boyfriend!!
