REVIEW – WHEN AUGUST ENDS by Penelope Ward

SYNOPSIS

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel.

What do you do when a sexy, older man moves into your family’s summer rental?

Well, apparently, you make a fool of yourself—over and over. Things didn’t exactly get off on the right foot with Noah Cavallari. Our first encounter was embarrassing, to say the least.

But despite that, I found myself waking up every day with a newfound energy. Nothing exciting ever happened on the lake—not until Noah moved into the small boathouse on our property. He’d booked it for the entire summer…and I was still trying to figure out why.

When my mother became ill, I inherited the responsibility of making sure our guests were well taken care of. I should have been in college. Instead, I was living my best life…as a maid.

Dark, handsome, and mysterious, everything about Noah screamed forbidden.

I knew he was just passing through town for the summer.

I knew he was probably too old for me.

Yet, I was drawn to him.

Not to mention, he tried to save my life when he mistakenly thought I was drowning.

I wanted him and made no secret of it.

His own attempts to warn me away soon gave way to late-night moonlight chats by the lake. We were slowly easing into a friendship that was gearing up to explode into something I might not recover from.

Because he’s leaving at the end of the summer.

And I have no idea what I’ll do when August ends.

I was living the moment I’d always feared: knowing what it was like to have her and still feeling as though I needed to let her go.

I fell head over heels in love with this story right from the start. There were moments I laughed so hard I nearly cried and then at other times I could feel my heart shatter for Noah and Heather. This was one hell of a perfect love story, and true to Penelope Ward’s style of writing, she throws in a twist that I once again, did not see coming!! Everything about this book was absolutely perfect from the plot, amazing characters…right down to the cute guinea pigs, Bonnie & Clyde! This is the writing that I’ve always come to expect from this truly talented author!

REVIEW – WHAT THE WIND KNOWS by Amy Harmon

SYNOPSIS

In an unforgettable love story, a woman’s impossible journey through the ages could change everything…

Anne Gallagher grew up enchanted by her grandfather’s stories of Ireland. Heartbroken at his death, she travels to his childhood home to spread his ashes. There, overcome with memories of the man she adored and consumed by a history she never knew, she is pulled into another time.

The Ireland of 1921, teetering on the edge of war, is a dangerous place in which to awaken. But there Anne finds herself, hurt, disoriented, and under the care of Dr. Thomas Smith, guardian to a young boy who is oddly familiar. Mistaken for the boy’s long-missing mother, Anne adopts her identity, convinced the woman’s disappearance is connected to her own.

As tensions rise, Thomas joins the struggle for Ireland’s independence and Anne is drawn into the conflict beside him. Caught between history and her heart, she must decide whether she’s willing to let go of the life she knew for a love she never thought she’d find. But in the end, is the choice actually hers to make?

”Don’t go near the water, love. Stay away from strand or sea. You cannot walk on water, love; The lough will take you far from me.”

I was a little nervous about reading this book. I’m not a fan of ”Historical Romances”, and history puts me to sleep, literally! The majority of the plot of ”WHAT THE WIND KNOWS” is deeply entrenched in history, and I am not going to lie, I struggled to get through most of the book, BUT, Amy Harmon is a truly gifted author, and I decided to see this through to the end. I am so glad that I did, because within the pages of this book is a beautiful love story that is fantastical and transcends space & time!

Anne Gallagher is a famous author from New York in the year 2001. When her beloved grandfather dies, she journeys to his homeland of Ireland to spread his ashes on the Lough in the town he was born. This was his last request before he passed away. Anne was so overcome by her grief because all she had was her grandfather. He raised her since she was six when her parents died.

Anne rents a little boat and rows out to the middle of the Lough to release Eoin’s ashes and somehow a white fog appears. She’s disoriented, frightened, and somehow ends up getting shot and nearly drowns, until she is pulled out to safety. When she comes to, she sees the face of a man who looks familiar but can’t place where she has seen him before. She’s in and out of consciousness due to the bullet wound but once she finally comes to, she learns somehow she has miraculously ended up in her grandfather’s childhood home, and the year is 1921. The man who saved her is Thomas Smith, a close friend to her great grandfather and great grandmother, and surrogate father to her grandfather, Eoin.

The story is told through Anne’s POV, and through Thomas’s POV in his journal entries. The history of the Irish Civil War is accounted extensively throughout Thomas’s POV, and oh how I found it hard to stay awake. As the romance slowly starts to blossom between Thomas and Anne, the history was still a huge focal point but their love story was what grabbed a hold of my heart.

How would these two be able to live their lives full of love and happy memories when they were from different time periods? Would the present take Anne away from the only true love she’s ever experienced? How will their story end?

So much angst, and sorrow. I loved the bond between Anne and the child version of Eoin, her grandfather. The beautiful stories she wrote for him about his journeys to different places and times via his little red boat on the Lough were magical. I really ended up loving this story.

REVIEW – IRRESISTIBLE (Cloverleigh Farms, #1) by Melanie Harlow

SYNOPSIS

I’m a full-time single dad to three daughters and CFO at Cloverleigh Farms. I don’t have time to fall in love—I’m too busy trying to run a business, keep the red socks out of the white laundry, and get the damn pillowcases on without owing a dollar to the swear jar.

Sure, Frannie Sawyer is beautiful and sweet, but she’s twenty-seven, the boss’s daughter, and my new part-time nanny—which means she’s completely off-limits. It’s bad enough I can’t stop fantasizing about her, what kind of jerk would I be if I acted on the impulse to kiss her?

(Exactly the kind of jerk you’re thinking.)

Actually, I’m worse than that—because I didn’t stop with a kiss, and now I can’t stay away. She makes me feel like myself again. She reminds me what it’s like to want something just for me. She’s everything I ever needed, but nothing I ever imagined.

I’m a former Marine. I should have had the strength to resist her from the start.

But I didn’t. And now I have to choose between the life I want and the life she deserves.

Even if it means giving her up.

For a moment, I let myself imagine what it would be like if I were younger and didn’t have kids. If I were free to pursue her. Win her. Keep her. Christ, I’d fucking spoil her rotten all the time. She was the perfect combination of sexy and sweet—it drove me crazy in the best possible way. In another life, I’d have done everything possible to make her mine.

IRRESISTIBLE is an incredibly entertaining sexy and sweet romance. For those of you who love romances with a single father, you are sure to enjoy Mack and Frannie’s story. I could not get enough of this book and I can’t wait to see what Melanie Harlow has in store for the remaining Sawyer sisters. When I end up loving both the Hero and Heroine equally I know that I’m reading an exceptionally good story. The author makes you fall for Mack and Frannie almost immediately. I felt a connection to them both and was waiting on pins and needles to get to their HEA! And I have to give honorable mention to Mack’s three little girls. They were the most adorable and precocious characters who added to the magic of this heartfelt romance! Great story. Terrific characters. Beautiful book cover! Bravo to Melanie Harlow!

REVIEW – WHAT HE NEVER KNEW by Kandi Steiner

SYNOPSIS

I never learn my lesson.

And I always want what I can’t have.

When Sarah Henderson walks into my life, I tell myself she’s off limits. She’s my student, sixteen years younger than me, and my boss’s niece. It doesn’t matter that I see the same pain reflected in her eyes that I have in my own, or that the dead organ better known as my heart kicks to life when she’s around.

I’ve been here before, and I know how this ends.

It’s been two years since I fell for the last woman I knew I couldn’t have, the one with the ring on her finger that I chose to ignore.

Two years of trying to overcome that heartache when Sarah slides into my life.

Another woman I can’t have. Another woman I can’t stop myself from wanting.

I never learn my lesson, but with a constant reminder of how that last forbidden love burned, I think I’ve finally learned this one.

This time, I won’t chase what’s off limits.

This time, I’m staying away.

And I’ll keep telling myself that until I believe it.

*****FIVE STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

I kissed her with the rain pouring down around us, a bolt of lightning lighting the sky above. And I knew in that moment that she was the missing puzzle piece I’d been looking for all along. I’d just had to walk the busted up, broken down road to get to her.

I absolutely loved the ”What He Doesn’t Know” series. I’m not one to shy away from stories that deal with cheating and that series had some gut-churning angst. At first, I was rooting for Reese to get the girl but then the second book had me doing a 180. I was completely in Cameron’s corner and I lost the love for Reese. Honestly, the two men were pretty awesome in their own ways and it was Charlie who didn’t deserve to be the object of their devotion. I was pretty angry with her during this story. Kandi Steiner brought closure to all of her fans who loved this series as much as I did. Although, this can be read as a standalone, it is beneficial to read the first two in order to understand the pain Reese has endured.

In this book, we get to know Reese intimately and it will break your heart. Two years have gone by but he’s still hanging on to his love for Charlie and tormented by having to see her living happily with Cameron and their two children. He tries to keep his distance but Charlie keeps showing up at his house or at the restaurant he plays piano at because she is genuinely worried about him. But she is hurting him more than helping because her constant presence in his life makes it hard for him to let go.

Things start to change for Reese when his boss asks him to be his niece’s piano teacher. When he meets Sarah for the first time, he sees a kindred spirit. Her eyes show someone who has been through hell and is haunted by her past. She has aspirations of becoming a concert pianist, playing in Carnegie Hall, but an old injury to her wrist and something horrible that happened to her, has been keeping her from her dreams. Someone stole the color and warmth from her life and she’s determined to get them back. Sarah knows Reese is the one who can help her.

Reese and Sarah are so much alike and have so much passion for music that it’s inevitable that they become drawn to each other. But Reese is her teacher and nearly sixteen years older than her. Plus Sarah is still a very broken young woman. Everything is telling them that this is a bad idea but the best kinds of love are sometimes messy and complicated.

Can these two broken souls help heal each other? Will Reese finally get the love and happily ever after that he deserves?

REVIEW – BOYFRIEND FOR HIRE by Kendall Ryan

I’m the guy you call when you need to impress your overbearing family, your boss, or your ex. Yeah, I’m a male escort, but not just any escort, I’m the escort. The one with a mile-long waiting list and a pristine reputation that’s very well-deserved.

I’m the guy who’ll make you feel beautiful, desired, and worshipped . . . all for a steep price. I’m hired to make you shine, and I always deliver.

And then I meet Elle. Her friend has hired me to escort her to a wedding, but Elle doesn’t know we’re just pretending.

Nic Evans is one of Chicago’s most sought after male-escorts. His clientele ranges from recently divorced women looking for some good old “no strings attached” fun and an elderly woman who wants him to pretend to be her grandson so she can show him off to all her stuffy socialite friends. Nic has been in the business for the past six years and has done really well for himself. He hasn’t had time for a serious relationship nor has anyone ever piqued his interest…until he gets hired by a woman to be her best friend’s date to her wedding. She tells him that he has to pretend to be an old college friend who recently moved to Chicago because her friend must never know he’s a male escort.

Elle has recently been dumped by her boyfriend who quickly found a replacement, and unfortunately, he’s going to her brother’s upcoming wedding. But Elle’s best friend, Christine, has hooked her up with an old college buddy who turns out to be stunningly handsome. Elle is instantly drawn to Nic, not only for his looks but he turns out to be charming and sweet.

Nic is in serious trouble because for the first time he’s deeply attracted to a client and her friend has made it clear that Elle is off limits to him. Nic knows that once Elle learns the truth about him that there’s no way she’ll want to be with him, but two nights is not enough for both of them. They end up seeing each other after the wedding and unbeknownst to Elle, for the first time Nic is trying to woo a woman for real. He tries hard to go slow and to date Elle properly, but the passion that has been building between them will be simply impossible to ignore.

REVIEW – THE RISK (Briar U, #2) by Elle Kennedy

SYNOPSIS

A sexy standalone novel from New York Times and international bestselling author Elle Kennedy. THE RISK takes you back to the world of hot hockey players, feisty heroines, bro banter, and steamy scenes…

Everyone says I’m a bad girl. They’re only partly right—I don’t let fear rule me, and I certainly don’t care what people think. But I draw the line at sleeping with the enemy. As the daughter of Briar’s head hockey coach, I’d be vilified if I hooked up with a player from a rival team.

And that’s who Jake Connelly is. Harvard’s star forward is arrogant, annoying, and too attractive for his own good. But fate is cruel—I require his help to secure a much-coveted internship, and the sexy jerk isn’t making it easy for me.

I need Connelly to be my fake boyfriend.

For every fake date…he wants a real one.

Which means this bad girl is in big trouble. Nothing good can come from sneaking around with Jake Connelly. My father would kill me, my friends will revolt, and my post-college career is on the line. But while it’s getting harder and harder to resist Jake’s oozing sex appeal and cocky grin, I refuse to fall for him.

That’s the one risk I’m not willing to take.

The second installment of the ”Briar U” series is a sexy and hilarious enemies-to-lovers romance. I happened to enjoy ”THE RISK” a lot more than the first book. The chemistry between Jake and Brenna was scorching hot. The sarcastic banter between them was entertaining and I think the forbidden romance angle spiced up their romance even more. Brenna’s dad is the coach of Briar U’s Hockey team and Jake is the captain of the Harvard hockey team. They should be sworn enemies to the end but they’re absolutely perfect for each other.

Brenna is a beautiful, intelligent and confident woman, who is focused on her future and doesn’t want to get involved in any romantic entanglements. She has most guys wrapped around her finger but she never tries to lead them on. She may come off as being tough as nails but inside she has the biggest and most compassionate heart. She’s made some huge mistakes during her teenage years but has been able to successfully turn her life around. Brenna guards her heart with a fierceness.

Jake is less than a year away from his NHL career. He lives and breathes hockey and doesn’t let anything get in the way of his goals. He’s close with his parents and has been best friends with a girl since they were in grade school. There isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for a friend. He may come off cocky but is such a good guy that he never appears to be douchey. There hasn’t been a woman yet that has been able to steal his heart. But when Brenna comes to him for a favor, it’s like a switch goes off inside him that has him wanting to get closer to her.

When Jake promises to be Brenna’s fake boyfriend in order to impress a potential boss, his only request is that she go out on a real date with him in return. These two have intense physical chemistry and they’ll soon learn that one taste is not even close to being enough.

Can two commitment-phobe people make a real relationship work?

REVIEW – MOTION (Laws of Physics, #1) by Penny Reid

SYNOPSIS

Forced to lie to protect her sister . . .
From the New York Times Bestselling Author, Penny Reid

One week.
Home alone.
Girl genius.
Unrepentant slacker.
Big lie.
What’s the worst that could happen?

Mona is a smart girl and figured everything out a long time ago. She had to. She didn’t have a choice. When your parents are uber-celebrities and you graduate from high school at fifteen, finish college at eighteen, and start your PhD program at nineteen, you don’t have time for distractions outside of your foci. Even fun is scheduled. Which is why Abram, her brother’s best friend, is such an irritant.

Abram is a talented guy, a supremely gifted musician, and has absolutely nothing figured out, nor does he seem to care. He does what he feels, when he feels, and—in Mona’s opinion—he makes her feel entirely too much.

Laws of Physics is the second trilogy in the Hypothesis series; Laws of Physics parts 1 (MOTION) & 2 (SPACE) end with a cliffhanger.

*****Dee’s Review*****

10 MILLION STARS of Awesome ****************

A Penny Reid book at its finest. Hilariously entertaining, slow burn romance, and amazing characters that will be the stars of your dreams, for months after reading this gorgeous

Mona has an identical twin sister, but in reality, they are polar opposites when it comes to their personalities. Mona is very much into her studies, Physics, books, and research. Her sister on the other hand mostly enjoys socializing and is always searching for her next, great, fun adventure. But when her sister Lisa came to Mona desperately looking for help, Mona couldn’t possibly turn her away, even if helping her goes against everything she believes in.

The only good thing that comes with Mona’s tricky new reality is Abram. The drop dead gorgeous, and talented musician that is torturing Mona’s days with all his hotness.

You’ll laugh your booty off with tons of Physics jokes, you’ll fall in love with Abram’s charms, and Mona will both captivate you, and inspire you with her smarts and inner beauty. This book has a never-ending flow of awesomeness and entertainment.

Reading a Penny Reid book to me is always like eating my most favorite meal, at my most favorite restaurant, in my favorite city; a trifecta of pleasure. But with this book, she really takes us readers to a whole new level of fresh, and yet familiar experience. I will be desperately waiting for all books in this series to release, so I can read them all, and then re-read, and then read again, for EVER!!!!!!

Fan-freakin-tastic!!!

I was the worst kind of hypocrite, acting like I had all this moral authority. Meanwhile, I was a lying liar of lies, sitting on a throne of lies, eating lie soup and liar cake.

MOTION, the latest release by Penny Reid is filled with her signature humor and oddball quirky characters. There are plenty of laugh out loud moments throughout the story and while the steam level is lukewarm, the story is what will hold readers’ interest.

Mona DaVinci is a nineteen-year-old science prodigy. She’s graduated college years ahead of her time and is on her way to earning her Ph.D. Mona walks to the beat of her own drum, saying bizarre quotes that she believes are perfect in any given conversation. Mona’s research is her life. She couldn’t care less about fashion, makeup, or the glamorous life her parents live. She’s also not in the least bit close with her identical twin, Lisa who is her polar opposite. Lisa is the “bad twin” who is always making poor life choices. Lisa’s escapades have made for good tabloid fodder.

Mona gets a call from her sister from jail. Lisa begs her to go home and pretend to be her for a week so that their parents don’t find out about her incarceration and cut off all financial support. It takes a lot of begging but Mona eventually gives in and agrees to be Lisa for a week. While she’s at home, she will be under house arrest and the person watching her every move is her brother’s best-friend, Abram.

Mona has never met Abram before, and he’s only met Lisa once, so Lisa is convinced Mona will be able to pull off the hoax. What Mona didn’t prepare for was the strong attraction she ends up feeling for Abram. No man has ever gotten under her skin before and it’s making her feel out of sorts.

Things get complicated for Mona when she senses there’s a mutual attraction building between her and Abram. Her conscience is holding her back from acting on her feelings. Their time together has a fast-approaching expiration date once Lisa is able to return home. Will the chances of a romance between Abram and Mona die once the truth of her identity is revealed?

The book ends on a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for silly and lovable Mona!

REVIEW – THE FORGOTTEN COMMANDER (The Lost Planet, #1) by K. Webster & Nicole Blanchard

SYNOPSIS

Our planet, Mortuus, is lost and dying.
A desolate place where a few lone survivors dwell.
My men have lost hope. Our future is bleak.
Longevity is a luxury we can’t afford.
The most we can hope for is survival.
We’ve all but given up when an opportunity presents itself.

Five females—a chance at a future.
Procuring these women went against everything I’d been taught, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
They’re ours now.
Asleep and made ready for breeding.
We won’t die out—lost and forgotten.
It’s our destiny to grow and once again inhabit our lonely planet.

I am Breccan Aloisius, the forgotten commander.
My people will have the future they deserve.
I’ll make sure of it.

My mind is made up…until she wakes and nothing goes as planned.

*****Patty’s Review*****

”You taught me strength when I thought I had none left. You taught me to care again when I wanted nothing more than to let myself burn up with this planet. For that I owe you the world. I owe you whatever life you want for yourself…”

WOW! It has been a while since I have read a science fiction romance and all I can say was that ”THE FORGOTTEN COMMANDER” was super steamy and so addicting! I couldn’t get enough of this story and am dying to get my hands on the next book! I hope that K. Webster and Nicole Blanchard will be able to deliver the same level of awesomeness in the future installments.

In this story, there are a group of ten alien males who live together on a desolate planet. They’re the last of their race and two of them come back from a search expedition with five human females who they found on what seemed to be an abandoned spaceship, in sleep capsules. This is a joyous discovery for the men as they were losing all hope of surviving. Now they feel they have a shot at saving their race by possibly impregnating these women. They try at first to artificially inseminate one for fear of catching any disease as that is what caused them to lose so many of their people in the past, but it doesn’t work. When the woman awakens, she is terrified by the pasty white alien vampire looking males she is surrounded by.

Breccan Aloisius is the commander in charge of the group of men and he instantly is drawn to the beautiful little alien. He decides to claim her for himself and at first, she fights him every chance she gets. Aria doesn’t know how she ended up in this strange situation. She just remembers having a hard life previously and turned to drugs to escape her despair. She has no idea how she ended up on that spaceship put under a constant state of cryogenic sleep either. She’s fierce and fights for her independence but she also can’t help that she is starting to develop an intense attraction for Breccan. For the first time in her life, someone is treating her like she’s their world. As if she is the most precious thing in his universe and she comes to realize that she is actually happy and hasn’t had one urge to turn to drugs to numb the pain.

Will Breccan and Aria be able to successfully procreate? When Aria demands that the other women should be treated with respect and that they have the right to decide who they take on as a mate, will Breccan and the men of Mortuus put their baser needs to the side?

In ”GENTLEMAN SINNER”, Jodi Ellen Malpas has done what she does best—she’s written another crazy all-consuming romance between a domineering and charismatic Hero and a feisty Heroine who doesn’t easily give in to the Hero’s commands. I instantly fell in love with the storyline and characters and while it may not be fair to compare this book to the ”This Man” series, I can’t help but say that I got all the same “feels” from this new story that I did with the series that started my love for this author’s writing.

Theo Kane is a formidable book boyfriend! From the moment he was introduced in the story, I was hooked. He’s dark, mysterious, and broken. He’s feared by most but doesn’t have the same effect on Izzy. Theo comes to her rescue when she is attacked on her way home from work. From the moment that they meet, there is an intense attraction that has them instantly gravitating towards each other.

Izzy is afraid of her growing feelings for Theo. She doesn’t give over her trust easily. She’s haunted by her past and keeps it bottled up inside. Izzy tries to reject Theo’s advances but she is no match for his tenacity and once she gives in to temptation, the passion between them burns white hot!

While they both want so desperately to know about each others painful past, neither is willing to reveal their awful truths. For the entire story, I was left on the edge of my seat, trying to figure out what made these characters tick and wondered how their truths would eventually come to light.

REVIEW – LEGEND (Arizona Vengeance, #3) by Sawyer Bennett

SYNOPSIS

The Arizona Vengeance is hockey’s hottest new team. But hockey’s hottest goalie is learning that even the best players sometimes need an assist.

Everything is clicking for the Vengeance. We may be new, but we’re well on our way to winning the championship, and I’m having the time of my life headlining the sports media as the hottest goalie—hell, player—ever. I for one am going to live up to my name . . . because I am Legend Bay.

Dragging my ass home from the gym, I’m blinded by some gaudy, glowing holiday lights. As usual, my hot-as-hell neighbor Pepper Nantais has gone way over the top. But just as I’m about to tell her off, something else catches my eye . . . Seems like Santa left me a present, and not one I was expecting.

As life takes an unexpected turn, I realize that there’s much more to Pepper than meets the eye. Sure, she’s gorgeous. And exasperating. And her taste in decorating may be a bit . . . unique.

But beneath her carefree demeanor is a fierce determination and a heart of gold. And before I know it I’ve fallen for her. Hard . . .

Pepper is exactly the woman I never knew I needed.

I’m a big fan of Sawyer Bennett’s “Cold Fury Hockey” series and I must be honest when I say that the “Arizona Vengeance” hasn’t measured up until now. ”LEGEND”, is sexy, heartfelt and even has some nail-biting suspense.

Readers who love a romance with a hot & single daddy, are sure to enjoy this one. Legend and his love interest, next door neighbor Pepper, were introduced in the earlier installments. Their romance started off as ”enemies-to-lovers” but in this book the sparks and intense emotions between Legend and Pepper are barreling forward fast and furiously. It all starts when Legend comes home one night and finds a newborn baby girl in a car carrier on his front porch. From that moment on he turns to Pepper for help and the chemistry between them sparks almost instantaneously.

Legend steps into the role as father to little Charlie with great ease and for a guy in his early twenties, he had a deep maturity level along with a sensitive side that almost had me thinking he was a woman. But that didn’t make him any less swoon-worthy.

We also get a glimpse into the lives of Legend’s buddies and teammates, Tacker and Dax. I can already tell that their stories are going to be extremely emotional and I can’t wait to get my hands on these books!

Here are my overall ratings:
