REVIEW – THE GROUND RULES UNDONE (The Rule Breakers, #3) by Roya Carmen

TGRU

SYNOPSIS:

The Ground Rules were impossible to follow. It was hard not to become completely consumed by the beautiful and enigmatic Weston Hanson. The heart of a romantic was not fit for this kind of exchange. So, when it ended, I was shattered, but it was all for the better…or so we thought.

The Ground Rules were rewritten, and then bent. We lied to ourselves. We told ourselves we could handle this. Not a single one of us realized just how big this was…just how devastating it could become.

And now, there are no Rules. We are undone.

Lust… infatuation…blinds you. It can tear everything apart. But sometimes, life needs to be completely torn apart before it can be mended – not just cracked at the edges, but utterly shattered, before you can truly see the mess you’ve become.

I love them both, but I can’t have them both. While one pulls me in, the other pushes me away. And when both eventually open their hearts, I must make the hardest decision of my life.

4 Extreme angst Stars****

(ARC kindly provided by author)

I’ve been a loyal fan of this series from the beginning. I loved the boldness in which this author brought us a totally unconventional story that would capture our hearts even if we didn’t want it to. I was completely intrigued with how Roya was going to end this story and I have to hand it to her because I was totally surprised by how the events unfolded in this last book. At the end of the day, whether you agree with the characters and the plot or not, becomes irrelevant in my opinion; if the author can capture your attention in a way that you completely checked out from reality and are swallowed whole by the book, that is a winning story for me, and that was The Ground Rules: Undone. I would classify this entire series in the book-crack-and totally-addictive category. Very well done!!!!

TGRpromospot9b

Finally, the mistakes these two couples have made in the name of lust have caught up to them, and the consequences they’ll have to pay won’t come cheap.

Weston is out of control when it comes to Mirella. He’s tried to respect her wishes and stay away but with one single phone call from her, all his self-control breaks.

Mirella is caught between the love of two totally different men. When she’s alone with her kids the choice she needs to make comes easy to her, but the minute she’s in front of either man, she becomes weak and she can’t help to give into the desires that run deep inside her.

Gabe is at his breaking point. When he finds himself at risk of losing his family, rage overtakes him completely, taking him into very dark and dangerous territory.

TGRpromospot6b

I have to admit I was reading in a totally desperate manner. This book was as frustrating as it was exhilarating. And for the life of me, I couldn’t decipher the reasons why these characters were behaving in such reckless ways. In the first book, the rules were well established. In the second book, these characters had already started playing with fire and the rules had started to bend but in this third and last installment, there were no rules. Passion was the main component ruling the lives of these two couples.

I was mostly frustrated with Mirella. She was one horny lady in this book. In her defense, though; two gorgeous men were crazy in love with her, so I had a little sympathy for her but her constant indecisions and fears were wearing me thin.

In the end, the shocking and unexpected ending brought a conclusion that was a little too perfect for my liking but I have to say I did enjoy the book tremendously. Mirella, Gabe, Weston and Bridget were true rule breakers and their story was nothing short of passionate and entertaining.

REVIEW – ROOMHATE by Penelope Ward

roomhate penelope ward

SYNOPSIS:

From New York Times Bestselling Author, Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel.

Sharing a summer house with a hot-as-hell roommate should be a dream come true, right?

Not when it’s Justin…the only person I’d ever loved…who now hates me.

When my grandmother died and left me half of the house on Aquidneck Island, there was a catch: the other half would go to the boy she helped raise.

The same boy who turned into the teenager whose heart I broke years ago.

The same teenager who’s now a man with a hard body and a hardass personality to match.

I hadn’t seen him in years, and now we’re living together because neither one of us is willing to give up the house.

The worst part? He didn’t come alone.

I’d soon realize there’s a thin line between love and hate. I could see through that smug smile. Beneath it all…the boy is still there. So is our connection.

The problem is…now that I can’t have Justin, I’ve never wanted him more.

Author’s note – RoomHate is a full-length standalone novel. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

Amelia Payne is a middle school teacher from Providence, Rhode Island. She is 24 & newly single. Her grandmother passed away a month ago & left her half of her summer house on Aquidneck Island. Amelia heads to the Island she loved as a child to spend the summer there. When she arrives she learns she isn’t the only one that inherited the beach house.

roomhate teaser 5

The house was left 50/50. Half to Amelia, & the other half to a guy who once meant everything to her, Justin Banks. Amelia & Justin grew up together. Her Nana used to watch him while his parents worked & she thought of him like a grandson. They’ve known each other for about 14 yrs., since they were 10 yrs. old. Last time she saw him he was 16. She was hurt with him, and young & immature. She made the decision to leave town & never thought she’d see him again.

RoomHate Teaser 2

Now 9 years later she has to face him & be roommates with the only boy she’d ever truly loved, but he sure doesn’t look like a boy anymore. Justin is now a musician living in New York, & is ALL man! Hot, gorgeous, delicious man!!! The problem is he’s angry with Amelia, & is holding a major grudge & to complicate things even more he isn’t alone when he arrives. I really enjoyed this book! It was extremely hot, full of drama, angst, sexual tension, & plot twists I wasn’t expecting. I really loved both Amelia & Justin & thought this was a great story about 2nd chance romance.

5 ~I Love The 90’s~ STARS*****

(ARC kindly provided by author in exchange for an honest review)

Meet Maggie Teaser

In order to properly review this book I need to provide you with a little bit of the back story, so bear with me. A few years ago I was hunting for something new to read. I came across a book with a very cute cover and a very weird title. The book was Geoducks Are For Lovers by Daisy Prescott. When I googled Geoducks, the pervert in me thought Jackpot! Just kidding…
So I decided to read it, and after only the first chapter I was hooked. Even though the story had a main character, Maggie, and the book is told from her POV, the real star of the novel was the amazing and long lasting friendship between all the characters. It’s been many years since I readGeoducks, but that book has always stayed close to my heart.

We Were Here is the story about the same seven friends, but it goes back into their college years. The story is set in the 90’s and since I grew up in that era and I loved the first book, I was immediately bursting with glee and desperation to readWWH. This beautiful novel is the soundtrack of the college years of seven friends, who discovered love, hangovers, heartbreaks, failures, and dreams, together. Seven strangers who became family after four years of college.

The beauty of this story is how familiar it feels. Do you remember those beautifully, messy years of college? Parties, study groups, cigarettes or maybe pot? Feeling young and reckless, and as if the world was at your feet? Well, that’s what this book is about. Those feelings and experiences.

WWH Teaser Blog Tour 1

The humor of Daisy Prescott translated beautifully into the story, making it highly entertaining and so funny. Belly aching funny!

Daisy Prescott’s books feel familiar to me. Like wearing my favorite blanket on a rainy day, or eating my favorite meal. These characters along with her storytelling have grown very dear to my heart, always igniting happy feelings inside me.

Reading We Were Here has made me even more nostalgic about these characters, so I’ve decided to re-read Geoducks are for Lovers. If you haven’t discovered that book yet, drop what you are doing and go get it today, I promise you that you will LOVE IT!

I grew up in the late 90’s so this is my We Were Here music playlist:

REVIEW – THE MIND (Reluctant Romantics, #1.5) by Kate Stewart

The Mind

SYNOPSIS:

We fell in love in a lightning strike, a sudden anomaly in a sea of lost people.
He knew right away, yet I was hesitant. I could have never prepared myself for a love like ours.
No one could.
As a child, I had conjured an amazing story in my mind. It was a story I could retell about a man that would move me like no other; a story about the way we met and how he had swept me off my feet. But, the ending to that fairytale was so far from the reality.
No one will want to hear that story now, but for Grant, I will always tell it.

5 “Did you feel that?” Stars!

Grant Foster is a 29 yr. old guy born and raised in Texas who works as an airplane mechanic. He is currently caring for his ill father in Tennessee & in a dead end relationship. He is travelling back & forth, working hard to get back to Texas & build the life he’s always wanted, when he crosses paths with the girl of his dreams.

Grant see’s the beautiful Rose Whitaker & it’s love at first sight. He doesn’t believe in wasting time & he goes for what he wants. He relentlessly pursues Rose, to the point where at first she finds him a bit overwhelming, but she can’t fight the intense feelings he stirs in her. Among these feelings is lust. Grant is seriously hot, & Rose wants him bad! She hasn’t been with a man in a while. She is a 4th yr. med student with an extremely demanding schedule. She decided long ago love would have to take a backset to her career & her goals to open her own practice with her sister. Being a successful surgeon one day was everything to her, that is until Grant Foster worked his way into her heart.

-“Do you believe in love at first sight?”

-“You know Rose, I know you feel it too and it’s okay to be a little afraid. But this is how the good ones start.”

-“And it will only get better when I finally get to touch you.”

-I want to know you.

The more time Grant & Rose spend together the more they fall in love with one another. It’s an intense beautiful once in a lifetime kind of love. They are both blissfully happy & excited for their future together. It’s a whirlwind of a romance, & everything is falling into place when tragedy strikes. We first met Grant in The Fall & I fell in love with him. He is such a beautiful character. I knew this would be a tough book to read & a tear jerker & it was. I had to take breaks during certain parts because my heart felt like it was being ripped in two. As emotional as it was to read, I soaked up every minute of this beautiful story. Just adored this couple & their love story. I highly recommend reading The Fall first if you haven’t read it yet since we first meet Grant & Rose in that book.

-I was overwhelmed, excited and terrified of his effect on me.

“I’m more scared of not saying how I feel, of not telling you I want you, of not taking the chance with you, and begging you for the same.”

17870102._SX540_

This novella surrounds the whirlwind and heart breaking romance between Grant and Rose. I highly recommend that you read The Fall before diving into this one because we are introduced to this amazing couple first in that book. I never had the ugly cry over secondary characters in a story till I read “The Fall”. Also having read the first book, you will be prepared for the insta love factor in this one and will understand why things progress at warp speed.

We get to experience how their beautiful romance began and for those of you who fell in love with Grant like I did, you will love getting his heart breaking back story. This explains his seemingly erratic behavior.

17870101._SX540_

There is little to no angst in this one. Grant is a man determined to win over the object of his affections and he is relentless in his pursuit of Rose. She does have some misgivings at first but is no match against Grant’s persistent nature.

Having read the first book, I knew that I was in store for some gut wrenching heart break and Kate Stewart surely delivered!! I am strongly advising those who haven’t read this one yet, to make sure you have a bottle of wine handy and a box of tissues!!!

Another beautifully written story by the amazingly talented Kate Stewart!!!
I am ANXIOUSLY awaiting the next book in this series – The Heart, due out this Spring!!

5 Stars!
(ARC provided by author)

In Adore Dean & Olivia West have the life they’ve always dreamed of. They have it all. The house, the jobs they both love, & a family. They’ve worked so hard to get to where they are & build a life together in Mirror Lake.

Dean is still a medieval history professor at King’s University, but has also been travelling a lot as an archeologist working on various historical sites out of town. Liv has finally found her place in their small town, & opened a successful café with her best friend Allie.

With so much going on, both Dean & Liv have taken on too many responsibilities & are spread thin. They are having to share so much of each other with the outside world, they have little time left for one another. They’ve become lost in their everyday life & with Dean out of town so much they have started to lose sight of each other. They are both exhausted, & need to learn to make their relationship more of a priority.

The love they feel for one another is the one thing that has never wavered. They are a couple who realizes they need to revive their sex life & make time for intimacy. Sex has always been a huge part of their relationship, & they will go that extra mile to make time for each other, & OMG it is so hot!!! They indulge in all their dirty fantasies & this couple is on fire together! I have loved this series so much & this book was just as fabulous as the others in the series! I ADORE Professor Dean West!!! 😀

-“You’re the book I want to open. The story I want to read. The lesson I want to learn, the music I want to hear, the painting I want to study for eternity. If I know nothing else in life except the truth and heart of Olivia West, I’m the luckiest man alive.”

”You’re the book I want to open. The story I want to read. The lesson I want to learn, the music I want to hear, the painting I want to study for eternity. If I know nothing else in life except the truth and heart of Olivia West, I’m the luckiest man alive.”

Where do I even begin to describe just how deeply I fell in love with this story and this beautiful couple? I was mesmerized by Professor Dean West and his Beauty when I read AROUSE back in 2013. Their story was so very raw, emotional, and realistic. Dean West had my heart aching and I found myself wishing that there was a man like him out there in the real world. I honestly thought that the story of Dean and Olivia West had ended perfectly in AWAKEN, but I am so happy that Nina Lane gifted us with this last book. I swear that I loved everything about this book and I was getting very emotional knowing that I was coming to the end of this amazing story.

This is not a story about a Billionaire Bachelor, MC Alpha, Rock God, MMA Fighter, or a Professional Athlete. It’s just a simple story about a married couple going through a bit of a rough patch, and yet, I was completely captivated by it. Both this and the Gabriel’s Inferno series have had me fantasizing hardcore, about sexy Professors.

Dean and Liv have such a charmed life. They have a beautiful little boy, a dream house, successful careers, and they’re still very much in love. The way Dean worships his wife is something to behold and I know once you read this book you will be fantasizing about having a man like him in your life. But now the couple face some challenges. Their sex life has taken a nose dive. Sex had never been a problem for the couple, but lately, it’s been almost non-existent because Liv is utterly exhausted due to her booming business, community projects, and having to take care of their rambunctious two-year-old. Even though Dean is completely turned on by his wife and the sad state of their sex life has been a dilemma for the couple, he never acts resentful towards Liv. He is always understanding and loving.

Dean comes up with imaginative ways to ignite their passion again and, OH MY, I was feeling the heat myself. Who knew that pie making could be panty melting inducing??!!! Just when it looks like they have overcome one issue in their lives another challenge surfaces. This one threatens to uproot the couple from their beautiful home, friends, and family that they have in Mirror Lake. Dean always puts Liv and her happiness before himself and he’s willing to do it yet again, and this was yet another in a long list of reasons why this man is one of my top fantasy book boyfriends.

I have to say that Nina Lane knocked this one out of the park!! I can’t say enough about this series. If you haven’t read it yet, now is your chance to experience the beautiful love story of the Professor and his Beauty.

REVIEW – TO THE STARS (Thatch, #2) by Molly McAdams

ToTheStars_PB

SYNOPSIS:

In the second book in New York Times  and USA Today  bestselling author Molly McAdams’ Thatch series, Knox Alexander must convince his long-time love Harlow Evans that they’re meant to be together.

He promised to wait for her.
She told him he was wasting his time.
Not waiting for him ended up being the biggest mistake of her life.

When they were younger, Knox Alexander swore to Harlow Evans that he would wait for her to turn eighteen so they could be together. But that was three and a half years away, and Harlow couldn’t ask him to give up all the fun and thrills of going away to college for her. As the years passed, Knox remained a constant in her life—whether she liked it or not—but when her eighteenth birthday came around, Harlow’s heart belonged to someone else.

Every day for the last four years, Harlow has been haunted by that fateful choice. And though he may appear unaffected by what happened in their past, Knox has always tried to fill the void Harlow left. But when he comes stumbling back into her life and refuses to leave, will Harlow finally let him into her heart…?

*****Patty’s Review*****

*****FOUR STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

Have you ever looked at someone…just one look, and you knew that was it? There would never be anyone else who would compare? That was Harlow for me. Every time.

I haven’t read a book by Molly McAdams in years. I don’t know why because although most people were not fond ofTaking Chances and From Ashes, I actually really loved those two books. What I know from having read two of her works is that Molly’s stories never give off the rainbows & unicorns feelings. You have to be prepared for some seriously gut-wrenching angst and possibly even the death of a character you will have become fond of. I’m happy to report that the latter doesn’t happen in this one!!

It started off beautifully for me. Harlow Evans is a fifteen-year-old teenager who is really like an old soul. She hangs out with her older sister and her friends, and they all welcome her into their circle because she just fits in with them. One night at a concert Harlow meets a devastatingly gorgeous guy named Knox Alexander. Sparks fly between them right from the start and I openly admit to having those butterflies in my stomach right along with Harlow. But there’s a little problem that puts a damper on this budding romance, Knox is eighteen. To me, this wasn’t a big deal. They were close enough in age and it’s not like Knox was in his twenties. But this turns out to be a bigger dilemma than it needed to be in my opinion.

Even with the constant warnings from his friends to forget about Harlow, Knox continues to keep in close contact with her. The two remain friends and never dive into a serious relationship. They date other people, but there’s always the promise that on Harlow’s eighteenth birthday Knox will be coming for her to start their lives together. I swear that my heart was racing and that I swooned every time these two were able to spend some time together and I really rooted for them to make it to Harlow’s eighteenth birthday even though the prologue prepares you for the fact that things don’t work out the way they had hoped.

”Why would anyone waste their time only loving someone to the moon when they could love them to the stars?”

You will understand why just short of her eighteenth birthday, Harlow gets involved with a gorgeous Senior at her college and he completely sweeps her off her feet when she is feeling at her most vulnerable. As a reader, you just know that there is something off about this guy and want to jump into the pages of this book to warn Harlow away from him. But then I guess the story would have been a super short novella and we need this to be gut-wrenchingly painful. So the heroine has to go and make the biggest mistake of her young life by choosing the absolute WRONG MAN over her one and only true soul mate.

You will HATE Collin!! The things that he does to poor Harlow are just too despicable and I was often times screaming and pulling my hair because I wanted her to get far away from him. Have you seen the movie, Sleeping With The Enemy, with Julia Roberts? Well, this guy was a hundred times worse than the psychotic husband in that movie. If only Harlow could see that there’s always a way out, but she felt hopeless and alone.

TTS Teaser 5

She is described as looking really frail. As if she were 30 pounds underweight! This was one of my issues with the story. I couldn’t fathom how her own family didn’t see her transformation. I mean come on, Knox noticed right away when the two run into each other by accident after having not seen each other for over four and a half years!! Later on, in the story, it is addressed and that helped to bring me back around as well.

TTS Teaser 7

Knox always had my heart from the very second he walks into the pages of this book and so when he doesn’t do or react the way I wanted him to during the latter half of the story, I was a bit disappointed. I swear this was going to be an epic five star read for me up until we got to the 60% mark and usually I don’t like a book in the beginning but warm up to it by the end. So this was a new experience for me. I do have to say that by the time the story was nearing the end the author was able to bring back the Knox that I fell in love with and I did feel like the story ended perfectly for Harlow and Knox.

6+++++ Dylan McGraw Stars***************

Undo Me does justice to its title because it will absolutely build you up to later destroy you, and you will love every single minute of it, in fact, you will beg for more.

I’m not going to sugarcoat the fact that the hero in this story is obnoxiously cocky and brutally honest, and some might even call him insensitive. But that added to his appeal to me because he was every bit of sexy, rugged and possessive. He knew it and didn’t apologize for it. Dylan will make you want to slap him and kiss him with the same explosive intensity, making him an alpha hero that you will never, ever forget…

Dylan and Aubrey met in high school. He was a few years older than her and had a reputation of a player, in fact, he had made Aubrey’s best friend fall for him after only one night together. He was a love them and leave ’em kind of guy, and Aubrey was not cool with him playing with her friend, so she sets out to defend her bf’s honor. Aubrey is very feisty and she is ready to give Dylan a piece of her mind but by the end of the discussion she was equal parts furious and aroused by him.

Dylan was immediately drawn to Aubrey’s fire and he wanted to get burned by her. He was determined to make the one girl who seemed immune to his charms, his. Ultimately the passion between these two couldn’t be contained and so they gave into a beautiful love that consumed them both.

Aubrey has some insecurities caused by family issues and every time Dylan mentions the future, she is scared frozen. She’s trying to live their present with utmost intensity because she believes nothing good ever lasts.

It turns out that it wasn’t the future, but the present that came on full throttle to destroy Aubrey and Dylan’s love. A tragedy so painful that replaced every emotion Aubrey ever possessed. Guilt and pain are all Aubrey has left inside her. The only thing that brings her a fake sense of peace is punishment.

Dylan’s love for Aubrey is his religion. The only thing he believes in, the only thing that matters, and it’s killing him to see the dark path she’s chosen, making him feel absolutely helpless. And this is what pushes him over the edge and back to his old ways.

Time goes by, and the good ‘ol boys always remain friends. It’s obvious to everyone that Dylan and Aubrey are still very much in love with each other, but nobody knows the dark secrets that separate them.

Can Aubrey and Dylan find the strength to forgive and believe in love again?

The beautiful intensity of this story swallowed me whole. I felt Aubrey’s tears running down my own face, and Dylan’s heart broke with mine. I got lost inside the pages of this novel, praying not to ever be found.

Nothing I say can really do justice to what I experienced through the pen of M.Robinson. Her words intoxicated me, made me feel drunk and deliriously in love with Dylan.

Author M. Robinson, I love you for making me hate you. Thank you for ripping my heart to shreds, for demanding my tears and for giving me this fictional Alpha Male that will forever haunt my dreams…

He takes a new job teaching at King’s College in London, England. He is trying to move on when he see’s Natasha one day at the University. His whole world is turned upside down, by a woman he thought was now just a ghost to him. Someone he never forgot, but could never have.

Natasha is stunned to see Brigs again too. She has moved back to London to go back to school & start over. She has suffered a broken heart the past four years after Brigs McGregor destroyed her. She has tried to move on, but her memories of Brigs continue to haunt her. All her emotions are still raw concerning Brigs & she truly never thought she’d see him again. They shared something so rare & special that neither had ever experienced before with anyone else. Their feelings were so intense they felt lost in one another.

They talk & still feel as drawn to each other as before. They both wonder if it’s fate. If they were meant to cross paths again. They begin to spend time together & things between them are just as magical & electric as before. Being together again, they both felt was something that could never happen. As they navigate & explore this new relationship Brigs is just as addicted to Natasha as he once was, & Natasha feels like all her hopes & dreams are coming true. They both realize what they have is something worth fighting for & they don’t want to let each other go ever again!

-I only want her.

-I’ve always only wanted her.

They are just as in love as when they first met. These two are truly soulmates who found each other at the wrong time in life but were given a second chance at love. This story is somewhat controversial but very real. The hurt is devastating at times, but the love is beautiful! As usual, Karina writes some deliciously hot scenes & gives us a story full of emotion. I also like how this book goes back and forth from the past to present, & I adored Professor Brigs McGregor!!! 😀

*****FOUR STARS*****
{ARC Provided by Author}

She yawned, her eyes watering as she gazed up at me with such innocence, such trust that it felt like someone had punched me in the stomach. I felt that look, really felt it, in my soul. I wanted to be deserving of that look.

And I wanted it directed at me every day.
Every freaking day.

Romantic style photo of missing couple

This is the third installment in the Consequence series, but can be read as a standalone. Each book centers around a different person within a closely knit circle of friends and their love interest. Reid Emory is the older brother of Max and an up and coming Hollywood star. He’s drop dead gorgeous and has never had to work hard to get a woman in his bed. He’s also never really had the desire to have a meaningful relationship until it seems he is just about the last member of his friends, including his younger brother, to be single. He wonders if maybe he’s missing out on something.

Jordan Litwright is a very successful publicist who knows what it takes to make her clients, Hollywood A-Listers. She loves her job and that it enables her to afford the high-end shoes and wardrobe she’s become accustomed to wearing. But Jordan is what you consider a plain jane. She is literally invisible to the outside world and in a way she gets comfort from this since she doesn’t like being the center of attention. She’s also not very lucky in the love department. Men who usually pay any attention to her, turn out to be gay and are only interested in where she bought her designer shoes.

The lady who fell in love

One night Reid and Jordan meet at a bar. Reid is actually attracted to Jordan, but she ends up thinking he’s gay because, in her mind, there’s no possible way someone as gorgeous as Reid could be remotely interested in her. Luckily, the following morning, their paths will cross again, when Reid ends up becoming her newest client. Her job is to launch Reid into super stardom.

Right off the bat, these two start bickering and you just know that once the sparks fly between them, the chemistry is going to be off the charts HOT!! I loved all the banter and just how much they both were so attracted to each other but too dense to see it. Max, was quite the scene stealer. He brought forth so much of the comic relief, at times, I wondered if he was the main character rather than a secondary one. Don’t get me wrong, I really liked him and since Reid and Jordan needed so much intervention to make sure they found their way to each other, I understood why his presence was so dominant in this story.

I really loved that this was not just another story about two physically beautiful people falling in love. Jordan was a down to earth woman, with curves and a physical appearance that was considered average as opposed to Goddess like, and I found it refreshing. She was a very lovable heroine and her insecurities and nervous eye twitching tick were endearing. Reid was an extremely charming and swoon-worthy hero. He had my heart the second he saw beyond Jordan’s frizzy hair and coffee stained blouses and recognized her for the true beauty that she was.

I had several laugh out moments and felt like I was watching a really funny Sandra Bullock Rom Com while reading this story!! I recommend this one if you’re in the mood for a light-hearted romance with just the right amount of angst.

REVIEW – HAPPILY EVER NINJA (Knitting in the City, #5) by Penny Reid

HappilyEverNinja

SYNOPSIS:

There are three things you need to know about Fiona Archer… I would tell you what they are, but then I’d have to kill you.

But I can tell you that Fiona’s husband—the always irrepressible and often cantankerous Greg Archer—is desperately in love with his wife. He aches for her when they are apart, and is insatiable when they are together. Yet as the years pass, Greg has begun to suspect that Fiona is a ninja. A ninja mom. A ninja wife. A ninja friend. After fourteen years of marriage, Greg is trying not to panic. Because Fiona’s talent for blending in is starting to resemble fading away.

However, when unexpected events mean Fiona must take center stage to keep her family safe, her response stuns everyone—Greg most of all. It seems like Greg’s wish has come true.

Except… not.

When all is said and done, can Greg handle this new version of his wife? Will his irrepressible cantankerousness push her away? Or can the couple find a way forward without either being forced to step back into the shadows?

This is a full length, 100k word novel, and is the 5th book in the Knitting in the City Series. All books in the series can be read as a standalone except book #1.5

*****Dee’s Review*****

6+ You are my Superhero Stars******

(ARC kindly provided by Author)

Refreshing, entertaining and completely delightful. Happily Ever Ninja was completely different from all the other books in this series. Penny Reid created a story that was thrilling because of it’s unpredictability and also because, she was able to take something ordinary like a married couple, and turn it into something marvelous that makes the reader feel as if they are right and center inside the story.

17635492

Greg and Fiona have been married for a long time and have two amazing kids. They met while in college and everything about their life is standard. Fiona works from home, takes care of the children and manages the household. While Greg works as an engineer overseas, so essentially he is more away than he is home . Everything about this family is very typical (*wink), they love each other relentlessly and unconditionally but don’t go thinking that is what THIS book is only about, because Fiona is not only funny but she is so extraordinary that the people around her and mainly her husband are convinced she is a Ninja. And Greg is so sexy, smart and talented that he managed to turn sarcasm into a superpower.

Like any other wife and mother Fiona starts feeling overwhelmed by the daily struggles and Greg’s absence is starting to weigh heavy on her. After Greg’s short, last visit, that ended in an argument, Fiona is feeling even more restless. Imagine what happens when she finds out, her husband has gone missing. No! Actually you can’t imagine, because these are no ordinary characters, after all. Fiona will have to dust off her Ninja attire and enlist the help of her inventive and crazy bad ass group of friends to design a plan to go and rescue her husband.

“Fe?
Yes?
My heart keeps discovering new ways to love you.”

You will be delighted with this story as you laugh and relate with all the shenanigans Fiona and all the ladies from the knitting group create this time around. This story was beautiful and tender but also very, very funny. I thought Fiona was so cool that I wanted to be her, but then I came to the realization that I sort of am her. Which brings me to,Thanking Penny Reid for writing a book where moms are cool, sexy, and awesome. And you know what? We are. I’m not one to pat myself on the back, ever, but perhaps we should. Maybe us wives, mothers, husbands, caretakers should feel good about all the hard work and all the sacrifices we make on a daily base for those we love. Maybe we are all Ninjas. So, thank you Penny for making me realize that I too can be cool.

If you haven’t discovered this wonderful series yet, how very silly of you. Go and pick up any of them, so you too can join the masses and enjoy and worship all the awesomeness that is Penny Reid; creator of a world where knitting, drinking and panty parties are the law and friends are part of the family.

-She’s a reminder that true and brilliant beauty exists in this world.

Greg & Fiona Archer met & fell in love in college about 14 yrs. ago. They were going to school in Iowa & living in co-ed dorms. Greg was an ex-marine from London & Fiona an 18 yr. old girl from Virginia wanting to get away from home & start over somewhere new. She just wanted to be a normal college student. She meets this gorgeous funny British guy she finds absolutely fascinating. She has led a somewhat sheltered life & Greg really brings her out of her shell & they fall madly crazy in love!

-My brain liked this guy, my body liked this guy, and my heart was beyond infatuated with him.

-I think his smiles affected me so much because of the depth of the person behind them. He was…a force. Often overwhelming. Always captivating.

Fast forward years later & they are living in Chicago with two kids. Greg travels all over the world with his job & this leaves Fiona to handle everything at home. She begins feeling overwhelmed & exhausted trying to be superwoman & do it all. When Greg finds himself in trouble, it’s Fiona who comes to the rescue. Fiona Archer is basically a badass! She’s often referred to as a Ninja. She wears many hats & seems to do everything well. There is so much more to her than we know & many surprises about her are revealed.

-“I’ve often wondered why you are so beautiful when everyone else is merely pretty.”

-“Ask me when I knew,” he said.”

-“When did you know?”

-“When I saw you…”

-“My heart keeps discovering new ways to love you.”
