REVIEW – THE GUY ON THE LEFT (The Underdogs, #2) by Kate Stewart

SYNOPSIS

It started with a lie. A night of blurred lines between a teacher and a student.

I wasn’t her student, yet it was the single most defining night of my life.

I’ve never been the man she thinks I am.

Most people have no idea about the life I’ve lived or the words that ring true when it comes to me—still waters run deep.

But you’d be hard-pressed to find a coed on the TGU campus who knows otherwise…because I’ve never corrected them.

The clock is ticking down, it’s Fourth and Inches with the ball inside the one-yard line and the focus is on me, The Guy on the Left. I’ve never felt like a football god, inside I’m…just Troy.

It’s time to set the record straight.

For my son, I‘ll find the strength.

In her eyes, I’m determined to gain redemption.

I will have them both, even if I have to take my eye off the ball.

I’ll never let her be alone again in the way she described to me. Instead of useless words of assuring her of it, I’ll prove that promise. And that’s going to take time. The more I become integrated into their lives, the more I feel like I can do anything, everything, for them both.

The ”Underdog” series is by far, one of Kate Stewart’s best. Each installment is as amazing as the last. ”THE GUY ON THE LEFT” pulls you in from page one. Towards the end of ”The Guy On The Right”, we were given a big reveal as to the connection between Troy, Clarissa, and Dante, but nothing could have prepared me for the bomb that was dropped in the prologue. From then I knew this was going to be nothing short of a STELLAR read. For those of you with weak hearts, who avoid angst at all cost, this is not the book for you. But, if you’re like me, and ANGST is your middle name—get ready to have your hearts completely annihilated. Don’t worry, it will all be worth it in the end.

What I’ve learned from this one is that Troy may be the Hero with the most depth and biggest heart of all the characters thus far. His unforgivable lie set the couple down a path that would bring them so much pain but one beautiful outcome was Dante. Dante just about stole every scene that he was in. Troy and Dante’s relationship will pull at readers’ heartstrings! Troy’s determination to do right by Dante and Clarissa made him my new top favorite Kate Stewart Hero!!

REVIEW – THE LINEUP by Meghan Quinn

Blurb:

Want to know a secret?

It’s about that girl over there.
Don’t look, but she’s the one in the power suit—with the long, black hair and the serious expression, the one I’m about to go on a date with . . .

Yeah, according to her, she “accidentally” donated an obscene amount of money to my charity — The Lineup — to win said date but I found out the truth. Miss. Button Up Blouse has a secret, passionate crush on me.

I didn’t know her name until two days ago, despite the friends we have in common.
Was I oblivious? Probably.
Was I blind to it? Definitely.

But I’m no fool, I see it now. The High Heel Harlot wants more than just a date with Jason Orson, she wants to be able to claim the best butt in baseball as hers.

Here’s another secret . . . she has no idea I know.

His hands immediately grip my jaw and before I can give it a thought, his lips descend onto mine, claiming my mouth the way I’ve always dreamed of. There’s no humor in his kiss. No fumbling. It’s as if this has been the kiss I’ve been waiting for my whole life, the one that would alter my world forever.

Jason Orson aka ”Big Daddy Boo-Boo Bear” and Dottie Domico aka ”Witty Wench” are my absolute favorite couple in this series!! Meghan Quinn’s sense of humor is so infectious and made me laugh out loud countless times, I swear I still have stomach pains!! Jason is the silliest, most in touch with his feminine side alpha male I have ever encountered in a book, and it completely worked! He rocks the “J Lo” butt like no other Hero out there!! Dottie comes off as abrasive and cold, but deep down, her heart is the biggest of all. Most of their story is a slow and hilarious build to an incredibly steamy and heartwarming romance, and the angst uncharacteristically comes very late in the game, but don’t let that fool you, it packed a TERRIBLE punch!! I think I cried more during this one than the previous two installments. I have an undying love for Meghan Quinn!! I am a fan for life!! BRAVO!!

REVIEW – BEARD NECESSITIES (Winston Brothers, #7) by Penny Reid

SYNOPSIS

Billy Winston’s family is going to see him happy and in love if it’s the last thing they do.

No one deserves a happily-ever-after quite as much as the second oldest Winston brother and his lady love, Claire McClure (aka Scarlet St. Claire). Cruelty and circumstance tore them apart almost twenty years ago. Secrecy and bitterness kept them separated.

But you know who’s tired of their separation and stubbornness? Everyone. Especially Billy Winston’s family. And now they’re going to do something about it.

Well-meaning interference means the star-crossed lovers can’t stop tripping over each other in the hills of Tuscany, the catacombs of Rome, and the waterways of Venice. Billy and Claire find themselves thrown together and at the mercy of the Winston siblings’ shenanigans.

But will their forced proximity bring them together? Or push them even further apart?

This second-chance romance brings back the entire Winston gang, playing cupid in one last story of love, hi-jinks, and family collusion.

BEARD NECESSITIES is a full-length contemporary romantic comedy, and can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s probably best read after books 0.5, 2, 3, 5, and 6 of the Winston Brothers series.

*****FIVE STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

We’d climbed mountains to get here, crossed stormy seas. I was under no delusions our future sailing would be smooth. But hopefully, given the last few weeks and all we’d fought for, resolved, and shared, whatever path we traveled, we’d be together from now on.

Sadly the ”Winston Brothers” series comes to an end with this last installment, ”BEARD NECESSITIES”. It’s been a fun journey with this hilarious and eccentric bunch of unforgettable characters. We get the conclusion of the most epic and heartbreaking romance between Billy and Scarlet. Their story is incredibly angsty and I think the steamiest of all. This poor couple has spent over a decade apart. Billy and Scarlet have put their true feelings on the back burner for what they each considered to be noble reasons but Cleetus is determined to snap them out of their delusions. Cleetus enlists the help of all his siblings and their significant others to reunite Billy and Scarlet.

It was a treat getting a chance to be with all the amazing Winston’s and their true loves. This book ends the series on a heart-soaring high. I loved that relationships are mended and old feuds are put to rest. Most of all, I loved how Billy and Scarlet both face their fears and learn to trust each other and let go of their painful past to move on to a bright and happy future together. This book leaves you with bittersweet emotions. You’ll love how it ends for everyone but will also feel as if you’re in mourning as it is now time to say goodbye to some truly amazing characters. Hopefully, we will be reunited with them again in some of Penny’s other stories!!

REVIEW – LOVE ME TENDER (Bliss Cove, #3) by Nina Lindsey

SYNOPSIS

Rory Prescott is desperate for a place to stay before she leaves Bliss Cove for her lucrative new tech job. Tavern owner Grant Taylor is desperate for a date to his brother’s wedding before his mother tries to marry him off next.

Grant makes Rory a deal – he’ll let her stay in his cottage if she’ll pretend to be his girlfriend. Though the two friends bicker over everything from her love of gummy worms to the horrible singing fish he has on the tavern wall, “pretending” to like each other isn’t a stretch.

As they share close quarters, argue about cell phones, and exchange more than one hot kiss, their fake relationship soon becomes passionately real.

But Grant’s family battles and Rory’s impending career move shut down any possibility of a happy ending. Their sexy, tender romance is about to crash and burn…unless they’re willing to risk everything for love.

★★★★★

Fans of romantic comedies like “While You Were Sleeping” and “The Proposal,” small-town Hallmark movies, and the charm of Gilmore Girls will love this heartwarming, friends-to-lovers romance.

The Bliss Cove novels are sweet, sexy contemporary romances that can be read as standalones or enjoyed as part of the series. Reading order:

Breathing hard, he pressed his forehead to hers. Their eyes locked. Tenderness and an emotion more intense than Rory could articulate passed between them. Her heart beat heavily against his chest. They’d been together for less than a month, and yet she knew she would never have this kind of life with another man. Ever.

”LOVE ME TENDER”, the third installment of the Bliss Cove series is Rory Prescott and Grant Taylor’s ”frenemies-to-lovers” romance. Throughout the first two books, we’ve been given hints of a spark between the beautiful and snarky computer geek, and the handsome yet gruff owner of the Mousehole Tavern. Their story was one I was highly anticipating and it was well worth the wait. Rory and Grant’s initial friendship was very reminiscent of Luke and Lorelai’s from the ”Gilmore Girls”. So it’s no wonder why I ended up loving this one so much.

Rory agrees to be Grant’s fake girlfriend so that he can take her as a date to his brother’s wedding and avoid his mother’s relentless matchmaking attempts. In return, Rory gets to live in the cottage he owns that is connected to his restaurant and home. What they haven’t admitted in all the years they’ve known each other is that there was a mutual attraction that sparked since day one. Soon enough their fake relationship turns into something very real and catches them both by surprise. Rory has just landed a dream job in San Francisco and is leaving Bliss Cove in a matter of weeks. Grant’s life is wrapped up in his restaurant. Can their relationship survive the long-distance?

REVIEW – LANDON & SHAY: PART TWO (L&S Duet, #2) by Brittainy C. Cherry

SYNOPSIS

Once upon a time, I fell in love with a boy.
A beautiful, broken boy who had his own world of struggles.

People warned me against our love, but I didn’t listen.
We looked weak, young, and foolish.
Dangerously in love.
We didn’t care.

In order to keep our hearts protected from the opinions of others, we became each other’s secret.
We shared stolen moments. Tender touches. Secretive embraces.

It was our twisted love story, and it worked for us up until our lives changed forever.

The boy I loved became Hollywood’s newest golden boy.
His career blossomed as mine stalled.
He found massive success as I discovered multiple failures.
He made something of himself, while my dreams never came true.

We moved into different realms where our pieces no longer fit together.

In the fairy tales, love conquered all.
In reality, love was the main reason empires began to fall.

I always knew Landon belonged in my story.
He was my beginning, middle, and end.
The only problem? I wasn’t certain I still belonged in his.

SIMPLY AMAZING!! This angsty conclusion to the ”Landon & Shay Duet” was everything and more than I could have ever hoped for. Anyone who is a fan of Brittainy C. Cherry knows that without a doubt she is one of the best romance authors of our time. I expect nothing short of brilliance when I pick up one of her books. Her words are so beautiful–they always touch my soul. Landon and Shay are two characters I won’t soon forget. I found myself completely lost in their story and felt like no time had passed by the time I made it to the end. What a way to end out the year of books in 2019!! REVIEW – A FAIRBANKS AFFAIR by Katy Regnery

SYNOPSIS

New York Times bestselling author Katy Regnery returns with the third book in her Odds-Are-Good series! Fall in love with her superhot Alaskan men…

Three nights. Two of us. One bed. Zero chance at love.

Boston businesswoman, Faye Findley, has devoted the last decade of her life to work, leaving no time for romance. Tired of being a 30-year-old virgin, Faye answers an ad in The Odds Are Good magazine, hoping to turn over her v-card to a sexy Alaskan she’ll never see again.

Successful distillery owner, Trevor Starling, was left betrayed and broken-hearted when his brother and fiancée had sex the night before Trevor’s wedding. Anticipating a lonely New Year’s celebration, he places an ad in The Odds Are Good for a no-strings attached weekend of hot sex.

Though mistaken identity threatens to derail everything, the chemistry between Faye and Trevor turns out to be stronger than either could have imagined. And what started out as a one-and-done mission becomes much more complicated.

I worship Faye’s body every night. I touch and taste, explore and learn, pleasure and adore. Unreservedly. And she gives herself to me with a trust and generosity that humbles me and that I will never betray while there’s breath in my body.

”A FAIRBANKS AFFAIR” is yet another book to add to a long list of ones that I LOVE by the amazing Katy Regnery. Faye and Trevor’s story was sweet, incredibly steamy, and maybe there was the element of ”insta-love” but it did not hinder my enjoyment in the least. Faye has never had time for a personal life, since the death of her parents, she put all her energy into running the family business. At thirty, she realizes that she needs to have a personal life as well, and so she answers a man’s ad to spend a no-strings romantic weekend in Alaska with him. We get to go on a thrilling journey with Faye as she discovers there’s more to life than work. Trevor and Faye’s chemistry was magnetic and I felt myself being swept away by their story. I’m looking forward to what the author has in store for us next in this series!

REVIEW – IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT by L.J. Shen

SYNOPSIS

𝑆𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒𝑠 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑚𝑒𝑒𝑡 𝑝𝑒𝑜𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑤ℎ𝑜 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑙𝑑, 𝑠𝑜 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑚𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑚 𝑎 𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑠.

A one-night stand born from vengeance in a foreign land.
An explosive chemistry neither of us could deny.
We signed a contract on the back of a Boar’s Head Pub napkin that said if we ever met again, we would drop everything and be together.
Eight years and thousands of miles later, he’s here.
In New York.
And he’s America’s music obsession.
The intangible Irish poet who brings record executives to their knees.
The blizzard in my perfect, unshaken snow globe.
Last time we spoke, he was a beggar with no intention of becoming a king.
But a king he became, and now I’m his servant.
I’m not the same broken princess Malachy Doherty put back together with his callused hands.
I have a career I love.
A boyfriend I adore.
An apartment, a roommate, a life.
I changed. He changed, too.
But Mal kept the napkin.
Question is, will I keep my word?

*****FIVE STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

We were both lost in that kiss. Found in it, too. She is standing outside. I’m standing inside. And between us is a small, significant distance I really need her to be brave enough to cross.

INCREDIBLE!!! I have only read a couple of L.J. Shen’s previous books and all I can say is that I truly underestimated her as an author. ”IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT” just about blew me away. It was a true page-turner. I found myself consumed by this story from the very start. This was a second chance romance full of unbearable angst, out of this world steam, and a Hero whose cruelness nearly tore my heart out.

Mal and Rory met in Ireland when they were both too young and life was taking them in different directions. They shared a passionate night and although their time together was brief, it left a lasting memory. On a bar napkin, Mal and Rory wrote out a contract that states that they wouldn’t try to find each other but if one day they happen to meet again, then they will be together no matter what circumstances they’re in at the time.

Eight years later, Mal is a famous songwriter and Rory works as a photographer for a record label. They wind up working on a project together which brings Rory back to Mal’s hometown back in Ireland. Rory is in a relationship and Mal is married. Mal is not the same sweet and charming Busker that Rory had fallen in love with so many years ago. He’s cold and downright cruel, which is truly baffling. Up until that point, there was nothing to indicate that the two left off on bad terms. As the story progresses, it’s the chapters that take us back in time that will reveal what caused Mal’s pain and why he blamed Rory for it all. Once the truth comes out, it’s almost as if the eight years apart never existed but there are still a few secrets that have the potential to wreck their lives beyond repair.

I am so thoroughly impressed by this author right now. The ”Notes” from some of the secondary characters, including the napkin, that were added at the end of some of the chapters was an ingenious idea. They sometimes provided comic relief and most of all helped to depict some of the characters in a different light. Go into this book knowing that nothing is at it seems and trust that journey to get to the end is well worth it!!

REVIEW – SOMEDAY, SOMEDAY by Emma Scott

SYNOPSIS

How long would you wait for love?

Max Kaufman was kicked out of his home as a teen and his life has been an uphill battle ever since. From addiction and living on the streets, to recovery and putting himself through nursing school, he’s spent the last ten years rebuilding his shattered sense of self. Now he’s taken a job as a private caretaker to Edward Marsh III, the president and CEO of one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. Max soon learns Marsh’s multi-billion-dollar empire is a gold and diamond-encrusted web of secrets and lies.

The longer Max works and lives with the Marsh family, the tighter the secrets tangle around him. And his heart—that he’s worked so hard to protect—falls straight into the hands of the distant, cold, and beautiful son of a dynasty…

Silas Marsh is set to inherit the family fortune, but his father is determined his heir be the “perfect” son. Before Silas can take over the company and end its shady business practices, he must prove himself worthy…and deny his true nature.

Silas must choose: stand up to his father by being true to himself and his undeniable feelings for Max. Or pretend to be someone he is not in order to inherit everything. Even if it means sacrificing a chance at happiness and real love.

”I wish I were like you. You’re not a sellout. A fraud. You’re real…made of flesh and bone.”
“You’re a real boy, Maximillian. Not a puppet. Someday, I hope to be a real boy, too. Someday…”

I normally shy away from MM romances, but because Emma Scott is one of my most favorite authors there wasn’t a chance that I could pass this one up. I knew that she was going to write a story that beautiful, heartbreaking, angsty, and filled with some truly unforgettable characters. I was not in the least disappointed. Max and Silas’s love story is hauntingly painful and beautiful. They were punished in inexplicably cruel ways by their fathers for being gay. Taught at an early age to be ashamed of who they were. Max stayed true to himself and turned his life around with the help of a man with a kind heart who was the only one to show him true compassion when his own flesh and blood turned their backs on him. Silas lives the life of a lie. He keeps his true feelings buried. Silas suffers from a severe case of PTSD caused by his experiences at a camp he was banished to at sixteen for being gay.

Silas is such a complex and beautiful character. I know readers will fall hopelessly in love with him and his enchanting brother, Eddie. I found myself completely mesmerized by this story and couldn’t wait for Silas to find the love and healing he so desperately needed and deserved. I knew that Emma Scott would take us on a journey that would ultimately end with love, forgiveness, and redemption.

REVIEW – OUTMATCHED by Kristen Callihan & Samantha Young

SYNOPSIS

What happens when a boxer finds chemistry with a geek?

Parker Brown can’t believe she needs to hire a fake boyfriend. When she landed her dream job in renewable energy, she thought she’d be entering a world at the forefront of progressive thinking. But the head boss prefers to promote employees who are “settled.” Thankfully, she’s found the perfect candidate, a fellow intellectual looking for some quick cash. What Parker gets is his protective big brother—Rhys Morgan. The tall, muscled ex-boxer with a foul mouth shows up just as her boss does, and now she’s stuck with the manipulative jerk.

Responsibility weighs heavily on Rhys. Now permanently out of the ring, he’s trying to hold together his late father’s gym and keep his younger brother, Dean, on the straight and narrow. To save Dean from himself, Rhys takes his place, ready to give this society girl a piece of his mind. Instead, he finds an opportunity. Even though they can hardly stand each other, posing as Parker’s boyfriend is a win-win deal. She gets to keep her job, and he’ll charm her star-struck boss into sponsoring his gym.

Problem is, they can barely keep their hands off each other. And what started as an easy deal isn’t so easy anymore. Because what future can a rough ex-boxer, afraid to open his heart, and a polished society geek, who has sworn off real relationships, possibly have?

They say opposites attract. These opposites are about to combust on impact.

{ARC Generously Provided by Authors}

No matter what he said, I had to end this deal. My feelings…well, my feelings were now involved, and after what just happened between us, I knew this man had the power to hurt me. Deeply.

Kristen Callihan and Samantha Young, two authors who have been on my favorites list for years, have come together to collaborate for the first time, and I truly hope there is more in store with this fabulous writing duo! ”OUTMATCHED” is a wildly fun and steamy opposites attract romance between a prim and proper career-oriented New York princess and a ruggedly handsome ex-heavyweight boxing champion. Parker Brown, aka ”Tinkerbell”, and Rhys Morgan at first glance, appear to be an odd match. There couldn’t be anything these two have in common but when they peel back each other’s layers, there is no mistaking how they are two halves of a perfect whole.

Parker is trying to get a permanent position at the company she works at. To do so, she needs to be in a serious relationship and bring her man to some company-sponsored functions. She uses an app to hire the perfect man to be her date for the unforeseeable future. Parker wasn’t expecting to get a two hundred fifteen pound sinfully sexy alpha male to be her fake boyfriend. Rhys’ younger brother was supposed to play the part, but Rhys was not about to let his brother throw his ivy league education down the drain to become a paid escort. He intended to meet Parker and give her a piece of his mind but winds up taking his brother’s place when he realizes that the arrangement could help him save his family-owned gym.

Rhys and Parker are like oil and water at the start of their journey but it’s clear from their first encounter that underneath the tension and hostility is some scorching hot chemistry. The anticipation for these two to give in to their desires for each other is almost painful! For readers, it’s easy to see these two are a match made in heaven but their shared cluelessness will make for some thoroughly angsty fodder.

REVIEW – MAN CUFFED (Man Hands, #4) by Sarina Bowen & Tanya Eby

SYNOPSIS

A new comedy from the USA Today bestselling duo!

Mac
A good cop can always spot trouble. That’s why my senses started pinging the moment I met the hottie next door. The neighborhood may never be the same. First she confuses me for a male stripper and tries to remove my uniform. (The guys on the force will never let me live that down.) And then there’s the breaking and entering.
I don’t know what to do with her. My libido has a few ideas of its own, though. Bad, bad ideas.

Meg
Hey, it’s not my fault that Hot Cop’s nightstick gets excited every time we see each other. And I can’t help that someone broke into his apartment.
Fine—that last thing was totally my fault. And I intend to make amends. So when he needs a date for his sister’s wedding, I’m there. This is right up my alley. I’m an actor. By the time it’s over, his entire family will believe we’re a couple.
Even him.

Warning: may cause unrestrained giggling in public. Contains: a bridezilla with a turkey leg, a flash mob, and a growly hero.

”MAN CUFFED” is just about the funniest book I’ve read in a while. I lost count over how many times I found myself laughing out loud while reading the hijinks carried out mainly by the adorably charming heroine, Meg. Meg is an aspiring actress who has just moved into a tiny one-bedroom apartment and has a very sexy neighbor who she has a knack for winding up in embarrassing circumstances with over and over again. From the moment they meet, there is an undeniable spark of chemistry between them. I wasn’t happy that Meg hears Mac getting it on numerous times with another woman due to having thin walls in their apartment, but luckily that relationship fizzles out early on in the book.

I enjoyed the snarky banter between Mac and Meg. Their journey to true love was filled with endless laughs and scorching hot steam. I especially loved how the book ends a little differently than I was expecting but in no way was it disappointing. It was the perfect ending for these lovable characters.
