REVIEW – CRUX UNTAMED (Hades Hangmen, #6) by Tillie Cole

SYNOPSIS

ONLY BOUNDLESS LOVE CAN SILENCE THE WHISPERS OF THE PAST . . .

A broken woman.
A damaged man.
A free spirit intent on saving them both.

Elysia ‘Sia’ Willis lives a solitary life. The only person in it is her big brother, Ky, vice-president of the infamous Hades Hangmen. She loves him, but she has absolutely no love for the outlaw MC he belongs to.
Raised in secret by her mother, Sia grew up separated from her brother and distant father. No one knew she even existed.

After the tragic murder of her mother, Sia spiraled into a rebellion against the rules of the Hangmen. A rebellion with dire consequences that now, years later, she still can’t escape.

As she lives once again in secret, happy on her own at her secluded ranch, a devil from her past comes calling. A devil who wants to possess her once again and take her from the simple life she never wants to lose.
And he will stop at nothing to collect what he believes is his: her.

Valan ‘Hush’ Durand and Aubin ‘Cowboy’ Breaux have finally found a home in the mother chapter of the Hangmen. The notoriously private Cajun twosome have, for now, put aside what chased them from their beloved Louisiana. But as threats toward the club build, Hush and Cowboy are given a task—protect Elysia Willis at all costs. Cowboy welcomes the job of watching over the blond-haired, blue-eyed beauty.
Hush fights against it.
Scarred by events from his past and a secret that plagues his everyday life, Hush refuses to let anyone else get close. Only Cowboy knows the real him. Until a certain sister of the club’s VP begins to slowly knock down his defenses, shattering the heavily built walls that guard his damaged soul . . . with his best friend leading the charge.

As lost and open hearts begin to meld, taking each other from indescribable pain to the never-before felt relief of peace, the newly-mended threesome must first endure one more rocky path.
Only then will they finally shake free of the shackles of their pasts.
Only then will they shed the bonds that have for too long held their happiness captive.
And there is only one way to survive that path . . . together.

Dark Contemporary MFM Romance. Contains scenes of violence and explicit sexual situations. Over 18’s only.

 *****FIVE STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

”Three sets of blue eyes, all different. All who have walked different paths…” My heart beat so fast at how we were all here together. ”All who have seen the full spectrum of life—the good, the bad, and the ugly.”

The ”HADES HANGMEN” is not only my favorite Tillie Cole and MC series, it is by far, one of my top favorite series of all time. I’ve said it before but it’s because of my love of the ”Hades Hangmen” that I became a blogger three years ago. Each book has been a gem for me. So many of these men have captured my heart over the years and I have to be honest I was worried about this latest book. I honestly didn’t know what to make of Cowboy and Hush. They were always in the background of the previous stories and never really piqued my curiosity. My fear was that this was going to turn into an MM story somehow because of all the jokes about the two being lovers. I knew that there was going to be a ménage and I worried that the two Heroes would end up having some sexy times between them! I am happy to report that DID NOT happen! This actually surpassed my wildest MFM fantasies! I may have to reevaluate my ideal HEA because it appears that two men are DEFINITELY better than one!

A dangerous man from Sia’s past has been seen in the area and it has her brother Ky and Styx on HIGH ALERT! She refuses to stay on the Hangmen’s compound since she loathes their way of life and still harbors hatred for their deceased father who mistreated their late mother time and again. Sia’s life has been filled with loneliness and her need to be loved had her choosing the wrong man to give her heart and trust to. That time with him nearly destroyed her. It’s been years since she was in that living hell and the only comfort and solace she finds is living in her little ranch and being with her horses. Ky orders Cowboy and Hush to stay at the ranch with Sia to keep watch over her. He also threatens to kill them if they try to make a play for her. He doesn’t seem to realize that there is some kind of attraction building between the three of them.

Out of the three, Cowboy is the one who hasn’t suffered a horrific past like Sia and Hush have. He sees the two as kindred spirits. He also can’t help the feelings that seem to grow with each passing day for Sia. The dynamic between the three flowed naturally. There wasn’t one tiny ounce of jealousy that ever reared its ugly head in their relationship. It just felt like it was ”Right”…that the three were made for each other. The steam level is high and when they engage in sex it always felt like it came from a place of love more than lust. It never seemed dirty or wrong, but rather natural. Hush and Cowboy were two best friends who loved and were loved by one incredible woman. Sia, Hush, and Cowboy find the peace and tranquility with each other that they’ve yearned for all their lives.

Happiness always comes at a price for the Hangmen. If you’ve been keeping up with the series then you know there’s always some bad mother f’ers who always threaten the Hangmen and their loved ones and since we’ve got three leading characters in this story, you better believe there are enemies coming from every direction! Let’s not forget they are entangled in a forbidden romance as well!

Will Sia, Hush, and Cowboy be able to live out their lives in blissful happiness when there are so many people out there that are against their union???

The man is my weakness. My downfall. My ruin. He always has been. And it seems that he always will be.

I have been a huge Samantha Towle fan for about six years now and can honestly say I am always so excited when I hear about a new book she is getting ready to release. Her books are always an automatic must-read for me and what I love about her is that she can pretty much write about any trope and it’s guaranteed to be a winner! Her Heroes have been rock gods, race car drivers, Hollywood actors, wealthy businessmen, and now in ”RUIN”, the Hero stealing our hearts this time is a world-renowned boxing champion! Ladies, meet your next amazing book boyfriend….Zeus Kinkaid.

Zeus and Cameron met at a fair in Coney Island when they were teenagers. It was love at first sight. From that day forward they were inseparable. A few years later, Zeus’s boxing career starts to take off in a big way and his fighting schedule made it almost impossible for the couple to spend any time together. Zeus winds up doing the one thing he swore he would never do to Cameron. He breaks up with her after confessing that he cheated on her. Cameron’s heart is ripped to shreds. Then as if to make the situation worse, she finds out that she’s pregnant and when she tries to tell Zeus, he’s not even taking her calls and gets word to her that he wants nothing to do with the baby.

Four years later, Cameron is still living in New York with her aunt and she works two jobs to help support her little daughter Gigi. Her side job is working in a club as a go-go dancer. Cameron is a dancer. Her main form of dance was ballet. She had a full scholarship to Julliard but had to quit once she was pregnant with Gigi. Cameron comes face to face with the man who once owned her heart but whose cruelty turned her love into hatred. She never expected that Zeus would ever come back into her life. When he shows up at her home and lays eyes on little Gigi, the truth that has been buried away for the last four years finally comes out.

News of Cameron’s pregnancy never got back to Zeus and the reason for their breakup was yet another lie that kept the lovers apart unnecessarily. Zeus is instantly a goner for his little girl and while Cameron gives him all the time he desires to spend with their daughter, she is not so free with her heart. Zeus’s actions all those years ago tore her apart and her trust in him is barely hanging by a thread. She’s not willing to take a chance on getting her heart broken again by him.

Zeus is a determined man on a mission. He wants another chance with Cameron and nothing is going to get in his way. Can Cameron find a way to face her fears and give her little girl the family that she deserves?

REVIEW – MARRIAGE OF INCONVENIENCE (Knitting in the City #7) by Penny Reid

SYNOPSIS

There are three things you need to know about Kat Tanner (aka Kathleen Tyson. . . and yes, she is *that* Kathleen Tyson): 1) She’s determined to make good decisions, 2) She must get married ASAP, and 3) She knows how to knit.
Being a billionaire heiress isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. In fact, it sucks. Determined to live a quiet life, Kat Tanner changed her identity years ago and eschewed her family’s legacy. But now, Kat’s silver spoon past has finally caught up with her, and so have her youthful mistakes. To avoid imminent disaster, she must marry immediately; it is essential that the person she chooses have no romantic feelings for her whatsoever and be completely trustworthy.
Fortunately, she knows exactly who to ask. Dan O’Malley checks all the boxes: single, romantically indifferent to her, completely trustworthy. Sure, she might have a wee little crush on Dan the Security Man, but with clear rules, expectations, and a legally binding contract, Kat is certain she can make it through this debacle with her sanity—and heart—all in one piece.
Except, what happens when Dan O’Malley isn’t as indifferent—or as trustworthy—as she thought?

*****Dee’s Review*****

FIVE ~Dan Is Mine Stars*****

A lot of emotions I’m feeling right now with this book. First, excitement, because I’ve been wanting to read Kat and Dan’s story FOREVER, and let me tell you, it was even better than I could ever imagine. I’ve been a die-hard fan of this series since the first book came out and I’ve loved them all, a lot, but Marriage Of Inconvenience is truly my favorite, EVER!

The only way I can describe what this book meant to me is by saying it was, a total unicorn of a read, so special, so unique, so unbelievably amazing. Kat was a heroine like no other, and what I loved the most about her, were her flaws and insecurities, and she had a lot. But Dan with his love, patience and the most precious care started to peel every, single layer in what was the onion of Kat’s issues. Their relationship is the most beautiful, and even the most hilarious romance I’ve read in a long time. Penny simply outdid herself with this one, it was truly a spectacular read. (Insert fireworks)

So… Remember when the whole knitting gang went to Las Vegas, and tons of crazy things happened? We knew Kat and Dan “The Security Man” had shared a night together and that something has happened between them that nobody else knew. So in this book, we get the very juicy piece of information that explains what brought them together for a night and then push them apart for two years.

Kat, as it turns out, is the heiress of a Pharmaceutical empire. Her past is one she doesn’t often like to think or talk about, and her current mission in life is to overcome everything she once used to be. She has been preparing to take her place, and take charge of the family business but her heinous cousin is concocting an awful plan to take from Kat, what is rightfully hers. Kat needs help, but she also has a crazy plan and lucky for her, Dan is the first in line to help her.

All the ladies in the Knitting In The City series feel like they are close friends of mine. I feel like we, as readers have gone through so much with these characters, and they are like a little fictional family. These ladies are always there for each other, each with their own special kind of love and talent and they just make each story, even more precious. The men too. At some point or another throughout the years, I’ve fantasized about either dating, marrying, or engaging in naughty panty parties with one or all of them at some point. But Dan takes the cake, he is hands down my absolute favorite. I love the way he talks, the way he looks, his hilarious humor; I especially love how he is still scared of his mom. I mean, I LOVED EVERY. SINGLE. THING about Dan. He is my Dan the Man, my Man!!!! Sigh!!! I could talk and think about him all day…

This book comes packed with a ton of laughter, tons of beautiful romance and a very healthy dose of sexy. This book will go down in my TBR history as the best book I could have read. I was having an unusually hard week and this romance made it all better. I kept having to go back and re-read my highlighted notes in order to relive all the beautiful emotions this book was giving me. I’ve actually decided to buy myself a hard copy to always carry it with me as a guide to help myself find happy when I most need it.

So do yourself a favor and give this book or any of the other previous books in this utterly awesome series. By the time you’ve read them all, you too will feel, like you have seven new crazy friends, that will stay with you forever…

”I have to tell you my limits because you have to trust me. So you have to know…you mean something to me. It’s never going to be a finish line with you or something to cross off a list. It’s—I want—I need—it to be everything.”

Almost on an everyday basis, I wish that there was more time in the day so that I could get to all of the books out there that I am sure I am missing out on. This is a serious conflict for us avid readers. I read ”Neanderthal Meets Human”several years ago and somehow I never had a chance to get back to this series until now. I wish that I had read all the previous books because I truly feel like I missed out by not getting to spend more time with these incredible characters. To say that I LOVED ”MARRIAGE OF INCONVENIENCE” is just the tip of the iceberg. I was in book heaven with this one! It had the perfect blend of romantic comedy, intrigue, action, and of course, the yummy steamy bits! There’s a new book boyfriend who has swept me off my feet and I am sure when you all read this, Dan O’Malley is going to steal your hearts!

Kat is the sole heir to a Pharmaceutical empire worth billions. Her mother suffers from an extreme case of catatonic schizophrenia and has been institutionalized for many years. Her father has been suffering from Alzheimer’s and has also been hospitalized for the past three years. Growing up, Kat and her father didn’t have much of a relationship. She was sent away to boarding schools and he was always watching for clues that she may be succumbing to the same sickness her mother had. During her teenage years, Kat felt the need to rebel. She went down a dark road filled with countless casual hook-ups, alcohol, and even drugs. Eventually, she got herself back on track and cleaned up her life, but the damage was done and some of her family considered her to be unstable. Caleb, her cousin, who is currently CEO of her parent’s company is an evil ‘SOB’, who wants to gain access to her parent’s assets, so he plans to prove that Kat is mentally incapacitated so that he can become her legal guardian. This will enable him to gain access to her inheritance. Kat’s legal counsel has been her parent’s lawyer since before she was born and he advises her to get married to someone trustworthy which will thwart her cousin’s attempt to gain guardianship.

Kat goes to her best-friend Steven, but he’s just recently started dating his boyfriend and suggests that she ask Dan O’Malley ‘aka’ Dan the Security Man, who has been the secret object of her desires for over two years. The two had a “moment” in Vegas where things could have turned romantic between them but a stupid misunderstanding wound up keeping them apart. Kat has no idea that while she has secretly been swooning over Dan, he’s also been hiding his true feelings for her too.

To say that Dan is dumbstruck when Kat proposes is putting it mildly. Kat was certain that he wouldn’t agree to her proposal because she really believes that she isn’t good enough for him. But what she doesn’t realize is that she has been a walking fantasy for him for far too long. Dan jumps at the chance to become her husband. Deep down he’s hoping that feelings will develop between them and maybe it won’t have to end up being a “pretend” marriage, and Kat is definitely wishing for the same.

The romantic tension that builds between Dan and Kat throughout the progression of the story was giving me endless goosebumps. Every kiss and every brush of his fingertips across any part of Kat’s body was driving me insane. I got worked up when he merely kissed the back of her hand!! This man had serious game!! What made it even better was the fact that he truly was a goner for Kat. I loved that Dan somehow always knew when Kat was struggling internally over what was happening between them and he would make sure to express what he was truly feeling about her so as to leave no doubt. It was clear from the start of their marriage that this was going to turn into something everlasting.

Both Dan and Kat have deep rooted insecurities about relationships and added on top of that for Kat is her inability to be intimate which stems from her wild teenage years. Their pasts and dysfunctional families played a huge part. While they try to navigate through their new life as a married couple and deal with issues that affect their relationship, there are also multiple outside threats that they have to contend with that make up the action and intrigue portion of the story.

Here are my overall ratings:

Hero: 5+++++
Heroine: 5
Plot: 5
Angst: 4
Steam: 5
Chemistry Between Heros & Heroine: 5

REVIEW – THEN THERE WAS YOU (Second Chances Duet, #1) by Claire Contreras

SYNOPSIS

Love and the right timing were two things I didn’t believe in.

Love is about walking to the edge of the cliff and taking the leap together.
Timing was never on our side.
My first mistake was hooking up with my best friend.
My second came years later, when we met again, and I fell for her.
My third was letting her go, because I had to. Because a love like this wasn’t built to withstand the winds coming in our direction.

Love and timing.
I didn’t believe in either.
Then there was you . . .

*****Dee’s Review*****

Five Angsty Stars*****

From the moment I saw the gorgeous cover and read the blurb for Then There Was You I knew I had to get my hands on this book. So you can imagine that the expectations were high, and let me tell you, Claire Contreras delivered; boy, did she deliver. This was a story with a lot of heart and lot of feels, a powerful romance that grabs you from the moment you start reading.

Starting with the beautiful town setting, the meaningful backstory and the realness of the characters, I simply couldn’t get enough.

Rowan and Tessa grew up together, same town, same school, same friends. Rowan was the typical gorgeous, player kind of guy, who had all the girls drooling after him, and needless to say that he took advantage of the situation. But there was one girl who stood up above all, Tessa.

Rowan and Tessa become really close, the best of friends, always hanging out, having fun, and laughing around the beautiful sceneries of their town. It was only a matter of time before the attraction they felt towards each other became too strong to ignore.

Something happened between them, that broke them apart and after graduation, they both ended up taking different paths. But now Tessa is back in her hometown packing up what’s left of her old life when she sees Rowan again. Old and new feelings start brewing between them, but now they are adults, not kids anymore, and if they play into those feelings the consequences could be life-changing.

This romance is the perfect combination of angst and slow burn. One of those novels that make you reach for the tequila bottle because it’s impossible to predict where the story will take you. I really loved this book, and I CANNOT wait to read the second part of this duet, I’ll be counting down the days until I read it.

*****FOUR STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

I tightened my hands at my sides to keep from reaching out just yet, hoping she’d contradict everything I threw at her. Hoping to end this once and for all. We weren’t meant to be. We never had been; we never would be. She wanted to be free of this place, and I had ties that rivaled the roots of a white oak keeping me here.

THEN THERE WAS YOU has got to be one of the most painfully angsty books I’ve read recently. I think I’m not as strong as I used to be because for almost the entire time I was reading this book, I was getting such a stomach ache from the mental turmoil. Not once did I find a happy peaceful moment. The main characters were extremely infuriating. I don’t know how two people could be so stupid that they were completely unaware that they were in love with each other. I could see it from the beginning and so could everyone else around them! It drove me batty! It may sound like I hated the book, but I didn’t. Claire Contreras has proven once again to be a very talented writer. Once I picked up this book I found it nearly impossible to put down. I was a glutton for punishment and now that cliffy has me counting down the days until I can get to the conclusion of Rowan and Tessa’s story.

Rowan Hawthorne and Tessa Monte grew up together and during their senior year of high school, things took a romantic turn between them. But their time together was cut short because they had plans to go to different colleges that would keep them apart for the next four years. When they cross paths again, it’s years later and the two are practically strangers. The time apart plus the fact that Rowan’s parents bought out Tessa’s family’s fabric company had managed to destroy whatever semblance of a friendship the two had left.

Tessa’s family has moved across the globe and she’s back home to clear out her belongings and start the process of putting their home on the market. Rowan and Tessa run into each other a few times and it’s clear she’s still holding a grudge against him. But he’s always been her biggest weakness and soon enough she’s succumbing to his charms.

They have a hard time controlling their desires for each other but are convinced that a relationship would never work between them because Rowan doesn’t believe in love. Tessa isn’t willing to risk her heart for someone who is guaranteed not to return her affections. Here’s where I felt like pulling my hair out! They obviously loved each other but were too stupid to understand what was in their hearts!

Rowan has been groomed since he was young to become the CEO of his family’s company and his Grandfather has offered him the chance to take control of the company but it comes at a very high price. Will Rowan give in to the stipulation when it means possibly ending what he and Tessa have? Will Tessa let Rowan make the ultimate sacrifice?

Here are my overall ratings:
Hero: 5
Heroine: 4.5
Plot: 4
Angst: 4
Steam: 5
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 5

THEN THERE WAS YOU is currently available. If you hate cliff-hangers and waiting for the next installment, then wait until the conclusion to Rowan and Tessa’s story is released on March 15th! Not too long of a wait.

REVIEW – BABY DADDY by Kendall Ryan

SYNOPSIS

We met in a trapped elevator.

Emmett was on his way to work, sophisticated and handsome in his tailored suit and tie.

I was on my way to the sperm bank. Awkward, right?

At thirty-five, my life hadn’t taken the path I thought it would and I was tired of waiting—I wanted a baby. And I was ready to take matters into my own hands to make it happen.

After our ill-fated elevator encounter, Emmett insisted on taking me to dinner—he also insisted on something else—that I ditch my plan involving a turkey baster and let him do the job. He would be my baby daddy. He was a wealthy and powerful CEO with little interest in diapers or playdates. And since he didn’t want kids, I’d be on my own once his bun was in my oven, free to go my own way.

But once his baby was inside me, it was like a switch had been flipped, and I got a whole lot more than I ever bargained for.

This full-length standalone contains a hot, swoonworthy hero, lots of playful banter and some hot baby-making s-e-x! Enjoy.

*****4.5 STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

Our time together has a set expiration date, and even though it will be hard, it’s also necessary. For a fleeting moment, the flash of a memory takes hold. I reflect on what my friends told me way back when, that love shows up when you aren’t looking for it anymore.

Just when I think I’m about to give up on Kendall Ryan, she goes and writes a story that reels me back in. She’s written so many books and I will be honest, not everyone has been a winner for me, but it’s when she writes like this, that my faith in her is renewed. ”Baby Daddy” isn’t a deep thought provoking read but it’s 100% fun and steamy! I love romances that start between two strangers who meet while stuck in an elevator together. I don’t know why, I just love this trope!!

Jenna Porter is a thirty-five-year-old bookstore owner who is taking matters into her own hands and is on her way to a fertility clinic in hopes of becoming pregnant. She has zero faith in the opposite sex and is determined to have a child on her own. She wasn’t looking for a man to be a part of her plans but then she gets stuck in an elevator with sexy Emmett Smith.

Emmet is the CEO of his family’s company, Baxter Books. He’s nearly forty and has never been in a serious relationship nor has he been tempted to be in one. Emmett loves his life as a single man and enjoys uncomplicated sex with an endless supply of women. While stuck on the elevator with Jenna, he deduces where she was off to by the floor she was heading for and seeing that he’s a red-blooded American male and she’s a knockout, he offers Jenna his sexual services. He’ll get her impregnated the old-fashioned way and then will go on his merry way without any attempts to be a part of the baby’s life. Sounds like a simple plan, but things don’t turn out the way they expected!

As soon as they become intimate, Jenna and Emmett are blown away by their ”out of this world” chemistry. While the initial plan was to have sex during Jenna’s ovulation period and only until she becomes pregnant, the two come up with various excuses to be intimate on many more occasions even after Jenna becomes pregnant.

When feelings start to blur the lines between Jenna and Emmett, will they both be able to take a chance on love? Or will their fears of the matters of the heart keep them from reaching for that “happily ever after” that is just within their grasp?

REVIEW – MEMPHIS by Ginger Scott

SYNOPSIS

My mom always said it was just something about the way he moved.

The same swagger Archie Valentine wore in the ring when he took his opponents down followed him like a halo everywhere he went. But make no mistake about it—he was no angel. He was like a drug. My mother was his addict.

I never understood it…how love could make you blind and convince you to drink the poison. Not until I met Memphis Delaney.

At first, it was the familiar form. He’s a fighter, built like a god from the past, the kind of man the universe doesn’t make anymore. His eyes hide a story, and every time I’m in his presence I want to keep reading him until I get to the end. And then…there’s the way he moves. His boxing is violent but beautiful, and his body is a seductive weapon. When he’s in the ring, he wears the stare of a man committed to the battle until his very last breath.

He could end me; turn me into her. Too much of him will leave me as a shadow, and I’ve lost so much of myself already.

But I have discipline. It came the hard way. Lessons learned, scars left behind, and trust stripped away from life.

I will breathe his air, but I won’t fall for a man like him. The only boxer who’s ever going to break my heart is the one who gave me my name.

*****Patty’s Review*****

This standalone sports romance had a very bleak and depressing feel to it. While I really liked the Hero, I found it hard to warm up to the Heroine and I guess I wasn’t in the mood for yet another story about two unfortunate souls who weren’t blessed with loving and nurturing families. While Ginger Scott is a gifted writer and I did enjoy parts of this story and I found Memphis’s character to be endearing, there were things about the story that didn’t gel for me. The twist in the plot was one of them. I didn’t see the need to take the story in that direction and neither did it enhance my reading experience.

I’ll end this review with what I liked about the story. I really did like Memphis as the Hero. No matter what challenges life threw his way, he was determined to live a decent life and honor the memory of a father he never got the chance to know before he passed on. He had a huge heart and I enjoyed all the scenes between him and Miles, the homeless war veteran that Memphis would check up on from time to time. The romance was sweet and mildly steamy.

I’m sure devoted Ginger Scott fans will enjoy this one. It just wasn’t my favorite by this author and I think I need to be in the mood to read a book with such a depressing backdrop and overall feel.

Here are my overall ratings:

Heroine: 3

LIVE – THE BEST MEDICINE (Dilbury Village #3) by Charlotte Fallowfield

SYNOPSIS

“The story is amazing and the characters are wonderful and hilarious.” The Next Great Read.

A laugh-out-loud novel from Charlotte Fallowfield, whose books have hit the Amazon #1 bestseller charts internationally for Contemporary Romance, Romantic Comedy, and Humour.

Release date 28th February 2018.

Despite being a successful author of risqué romance novels, Charlie Faulkner had yet to star in her own love story. Drowning her sorrows in takeaway pizza, and at risk of getting wedged in her favourite writing chair, she despaired of ever finding the kind of all-consuming love that she wrote about in her books.

When she did venture out of her writing cave, chaos and disaster followed, with many a trip to the emergency room of the local hospital. It was there she fell head over heels for the handsome doctor who often treated her, Guy Fitton. The trouble was that with her medical track record, she wasn’t sure if he’d see her as a sexy, desirable temptress or just a crazy, accident-prone woman, with a medical file so heavy it needed its own trolley.

Would Charlie get her “happy ever after” with Dr. Fitton or end up with the other significant male in her life, the pizza delivery guy?

While The Best Medicine is a standalone story, it’s the third in the Dilbury Village series of romantic comedy novels. All of them will be set in the quaint fictitious English hamlet in the Shropshire countryside, but feature a different village couples’ story.

Warning, if you are of a sensitive disposition when it comes to toilet humour, then the Dilbury Village series may not be for you!

”Sometimes great love starts with friendship, Charlie. We all dream of that instant, all-consuming need and passion for someone, and to have that returned, but it’s rare to find that and have it last a lifetime. When the passion fades, great friendship is what will see you through the rest of your years.”

I can’t get enough of the ”Dilbury Village” series. My hope is that Ms. Fallowfield will continue to write about this charming and quaint little town and the endearing characters who live there for the unforeseeable future. Each time I pick up one of these books, I feel like I’m getting the chance to spend time with some of my oldest and dearest friends. I’ve said it before and I’ll keep reiterating that it’s the friendships between these amazing women that play an equally pivotal role in the plot as the sweet and slow building romances. ”THE BEST MEDICINE” still has the author’s signature brand of humor throughout but for those of you who have read her previous books, you’ll notice that the potty humor is light in this one. I know that not everyone appreciates that kind of humor so this book will most definitely appeal to an even bigger reading audience. I loved the slow and angsty build to the sweet romance in this one and I guarantee that the Hero and Heroine will steal your hearts! This is a series that must be on everyone’s TBRs!

This is the story of the newest inhabitant of Dilbury Village. Charlie Faulkner is the sweet and beautiful romance author who has recently left her day job to pursue a full-time career as a writer. While she can write some of the steamiest love stories it seems life does not imitate art. She’s been single for the past two years and as the story progresses you begin to figure out that it’s her unrealistic view of romance that has kept her in the ”party of one” zone. Charlie is a character you’ll fall in love with instantly. She’s got the biggest heart and she goes out of her way to be there for the ones she loves. Her little cat, Ms. Tibbles, is a riot!! Just another reason why I love this series so much. The pets play a big role in the stories. Charlie is very much like the previous Heroines in the series in that she has a penchant for winding up in the most embarrassing situations due to her clumsiness which always has her winding up in the ER. The author indicates that all of the Heroine’s injuries are based on her real-life experiences. All I kept thinking was thank God this woman is still alive! Some of the accidents that happen to our sweet Charlie are seriously hair-raising! It is during her very first trip to the ER for a sprained ankle and broken wrist, that Charlie meets the object of her lustful fantasies, Dr. McFitton aka ”McFitty”. She spends almost the entire story crossing paths with him at the ER for the multitude of injuries that she has the misfortune of acquiring.

Charlie is a woman after my own heart. She’s a disaster in the kitchen and has an unhealthy obsession with pepperoni pizza. The local pizza place has her up there as their #1 customer. The first time she has pizza delivered to her house, she meets the sweet and charming pizza delivery man, Kitt. These two become fast friends. They make it a Friday night ritual to have pizza dinner together over at Charlie’s place while engaging in good conversation. I have to admit, at first, I was rooting for the doctor because I thought it was sexier to be romantically involved with him rather than the good looking pizza man. I was being judgmental when Charlie never thought poorly of Kitt’s profession. There’s a reason why he’s in the pizza delivery business and when you find out, it only makes Kitt that much more swoon-worthy.

Throughout the story, Kitt proves time and again that whenever Charlie is in need of someone to take care of her, he is there. I was soon rooting for Charlie to get her head out of her arse and see what she had standing right in front of her and so were all of her friends. Her cluelessness made for 100% of the angst, but even that didn’t stop me from loving her.

Will Charlie figure out what everyone else knew all along before it’s too late?

Here are my overall ratings:
Hero: 5
Heroine: 5
Plot: 5
Angst: 4
Steam: 3
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 5

THE BEST MEDICINE is currently available! If you haven’t read the series, I highly recommend it. Even though each book can be read as a standalone I really believe it would be a travesty to skip any of the books!

REVIEW – GENTLEMAN NINE by Penelope Ward

SYNOPSIS

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new, sexy standalone novel.

Growing up, the three of us were friends.

He was the nerd.

I was the playboy.

She was the beauty.

Deep down, I only ever wanted her. I kept it inside because Rory and I made a pact that our friend, Amber, was off-limits.

He lied.

I went off to college, and he got the girl.

Amber never knew how I felt.

They were together for years—before he broke her heart.

Through it all and across the miles, she and I casually stayed in touch.

When my job sent me to Boston for a three-month contract position, Amber let me stay in her spare room.

Still reeling from her breakup, she’d sworn off men.

One night, I opened her computer to find the shock of my life. She’d hesitantly contacted a male escort company. Afraid to date and get her heart broken again, she was looking for sex with no strings.

Every emotion imaginable ran through me: protectiveness, jealousy—curiosity.

Amber had chosen Gentleman Number Nine and sent him a message.

She opened up to him, confessing, among other things, her physical attraction to her friend—me. But she considered me off-limits—and she thought I was a manwhore. (Ironic, considering the circumstances.)

Eventually, she set up a date to meet Gentleman Nine at a hotel.

When she showed up several nights later to meet him, she was stunned to see me standing there—with an offer I hoped she wouldn’t refuse.

*****FOUR STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

When I first met him, he’d been my best friend’s big brother. Off-limits. Then, our relationship evolved into a friendship I valued. Off-limits. Crossing the line with Channing wasn’t a possibility, especially after I fell in love with his best friend, Rory, which made Channing once again…off-limits.

There were so many tropes in this one it nearly made my head spin. ”In love with the best friend’s older brother”, “friends-to-lovers” and then ”forbidden romance” because the Hero was once the best friend of the Heroine’s boyfriend. There is a love triangle but thankfully there isn’t any cheating so for those of you who are squeamish you should be able to get through the angst that the love triangle causes. I’m a huge fan of Penelope Ward and enjoy so many of her books and I thought the story had a terrific beginning but somewhere in the middle, it got a little crazy. At times I felt the story was all over the place but in the end, I couldn’t deny that I was so entertained that I finished this in less than a day.

Amber Walton has been nursing a broken heart for the past several months after her boyfriend of nine years decides to call it quits, declaring that they need to see other people since they’ve only ever been with each other. It’s the last thing she expected to hear out of his mouth and she hasn’t been able to stop from wallowing in self-pity since the day he left. But then she gets a call from an old friend. One she never thought she’d hear from again. Channing Lord was Amber’s childhood friend and crush. He was the big brother of her best friend Lainie, who tragically lost her life at the age of fourteen. Lainie’s death ended up bringing Amber and Channing closer together. They found solace in each other’s companionship. Then they became the three musketeers when Channing’s best friend, Rory, started hanging out with them. Everything changed between the three when Channing went off to college in Florida and Rory made his move on Amber. The friendship seemed to fall apart. Fast forward to present day and Channing is going to be Amber’s new tenant. He has to be in Boston for a few months for work and he heard that Amber had a room for rent.

Old feelings that had been bottled up, start to resurface as two old friends become reacquainted. While at first neither will act upon their feelings for fear of losing the friendship which means the most to them, you could feel the sexual tension building between Channing and Amber. Feeling the need to release some of the sexual frustration Amber decides to do something crazy and unbeknownst to her, Channing finds out. He does something deceitful but it was all coming from a good place in his heart and his only intentions were to keep Amber safe.

When truths are revealed it becomes nearly impossible for Channing and Amber to fight their physical attraction any longer. What starts off as ”no strings” sex quickly becomes a complicated mess when love weaves its way into their hearts and the past comes knocking on their door.

By the time we are nearing the end, there are so many things piling up against the two lovers, the challenges seemed insurmountable.

Will Channing and Amber be able to weather the storms in their paths or will they only ever have the two months they spent together to look back on with painful longing and regret?

MR. BLAKELY is a ridiculous, fun and downright naughty little read. It’s a ”May/December” romance, and I use that term loosely, between a successful forty-three-year-old businessman and his sweet and innocent eighteen-year-old babysitter. The fact that he needed to hire a babysitter/tutor for his fifteen-year-old twin boys was utterly comical. While the plot is flimsy at best, the purpose of this novella is to give readers a naughty good time, which if you accept that at face value, you’ll end up enjoying this quick read.

Quinn Blakely, who we met in ”LAWN BOYS” is a wealthy businessman who finds himself in a bind when his wife leaves him and their twin boys for her fitness instructor. He’s more annoyed than heartbroken over his wife’s infidelity. Quinn is a devoted father and wants to ensure that his sons stay on the straight and narrow path and that they do well in school. He hires Ava Prince, an eighteen-year-old high school senior, to be a babysitter/tutor for his sons. He demands that she be available to take care of his sons whenever he needs her and however long. Ava spends many nights over while Quinn goes to numerous after hour business functions.

Quinn and Ava are instantly attracted to each other and while Quinn knows how wrong it would be to seduce the innocent young woman, it does very little to deter his baser needs. Almost from their first interaction, he’s saying some pretty inappropriate things to young Ava. Soon enough he’s taking Ava anywhere and anyway he can get her. There is no hearts and flowers romance to be had here, it’s pretty much all hot and dirty sexy times.

These two continuously have sex without birth control so you can figure out how the story ends. We definitely get an over the top HEA!

REVIEW – I CAN EXPLAIN (Awkward Love, #2) by Missy Johnson

SYNOPSIS

Standing on the balcony, outside my boss’s apartment, wearing only my underwear?

Not how I expected to start my Saturday morning.

I guess I should’ve thought harder about going home with my sexy new gym instructor, especially since I had no idea the guy was married.

When he pushed me outside five seconds before his wife walked through the door, I jumped one balcony over. I thought it would be less embarrassing for a total stranger to find me than his wife.

That was a smart move.

So here I am, wearing next to nothing and freezing my ass off, staring through the living room window at my young, sexy, and very intimidating boss, Chase Winston.

I have two choices: I can sit here and try to think of another way out of this and risk dying of hypothermia. Or I can suck it up and knock on that window.

After a long, internal argument with myself, I choose option two.

Here goes nothing…

I CAN EXPLAIN is another fun and steamy novella from the ”Awkward Love” series. Each couple so far has either started their romance under ”FORBIDDEN” or extremely
”EMBARRASSING” circumstances. There are several cringe-worthy moments that befall the Heroine while in the presence of our sexy and downright arrogant Hero. While romances between the executive assistant and the handsome but obnoxious CEO have been played out to death, I still enjoy this trope and I give the author credit for coming up with the most preposterous and embarrassing scenario for the couple’s romance to ignite. This is a book to be taken for its level of enjoyment and not for the substance of the story. The entire series is basically a ”guilty pleasure” read.

Lanna Morrison hates her job. She also despises her boss, but if she’s being honest he’s been the star of all her naughty fantasies as well. She has a master’s degree in business analytics and feels she is overqualified to be working as a junior personal assistant. Her days are spent running errands for Chase Winston all over town and even though she’s done an exceptional job for nearly two years, he manages to ream her for getting his coffee order wrong just one time. While on a tirade about Chase with her best friend and co-worker, she mentions what a complete ass he is but that she’d still love to get it on with him, anyway he’d have her. Unbeknownst to her and to her utter horror, Chase had been standing behind her the entire time and heard the whole embarrassing monologue.

Chase is amused by Lanna’s naughty fantasies and he has been harboring an attraction for her as well, but office romances are frowned upon and a past relationship has scared him off from getting serious with another woman. Lanna’s alluring and her feisty attitude is a huge turn on for Chase. Never in his wildest dreams did he expect to find her out on his balcony at 6 AM in the morning in a next to nothing bra and panty set.

Lanna thought she’d never get over the mortification of having Chase overhear her raunchy fantasies about him, but yet again, her misfortune has landed her practically naked on his balcony. Her one and only attempt at a one-night stand with her gorgeous gym instructor turned out disastrous when his wife unexpectedly came home early. Lanna had no idea that he was married and while she freezes out on their balcony she weighs her option of going back into their apartment to face the wrath of a jealous wife or to jump over to the neighbor’s balcony and deal with a brief embarrassing moment with a stranger that she’ll never have to see again. She’s horrified when she sees that the neighbor is her boss but having no other choice she swallows her embarrassment and tries to get through the situation with what little dignity she has left.

The dynamic between Chase and Lanna changes dramatically after the balcony fiasco. Soon a hot and heavy romance blossoms between them and while they both are on a high just being together, there are painful secrets from Chase’s past that could wind up tearing the couple apart.
