REVIEW – REBEL HEIR (Rush #1) by Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward

SYNOPSIS

From New York Times Bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward, comes the first book in a new, sexy duet.

How to kick off a great summer in the Hamptons:

Snag a gorgeous rental on the beach. Check.

Get a job at a trendy summer haunt. Check.

How to screw up a great summer in the Hamptons:

Fall for the one guy with a dark leather jacket, scruff on his face, and intense eyes that doesn’t fit in with the rest of the tony looking crowd. A guy you can’t have when you’ll be leaving at the end of the season.

Check. Check. Check.

I should add—especially when the guy is your sexy, tattooed God of a boss.

Especially when he not only owns your place of employment but inherited half of the town.

Especially when he’s mean to you.

Or so I thought.

Until one night when he demanded I get in his car so he could drive me home because he didn’t want me walking in the dark.

That was sort of how it all started with Rush.

And then little by little, some of the walls of this hardass man started to come down.

I never expected that the two of us, seemingly opposites from the outside, would grow so close.

I wasn’t supposed to fall for the rebel heir, especially when he made it clear he didn’t want to cross the line with me.

As the temperature turned cooler, the nights became hotter. My summer became a lot more interesting—and complicated.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Rebel Heir is the first book in the Rush Series Duet. Book Two, Rebel Heart, will release six weeks later on May, 22, 2018.

*****Dee’s Review*****

4.5 Stars*****
Two of my favorite authors; Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward get together again to bring us fans the perfect summer read.

Set in the Hamptons this delicious and sexy story had me feeling as if I was in the middle of a sexy, summer romance. These two authors have the talent to make you feel as if you are actually part of the story. You could almost feel the sand on your toes, hear the beach waves and feel the delicious kisses between Rush and Gia.

Rush is not your typical millionaire, he’s had to jump through hoops to get to where he is in his life. He’s the Rebel in his family. Tattooed, ripped body and with a dirty mouth to match his cocky attitude. He is the owner of a hot spot in The Hamptons. All his employees are afraid of him; all but one, Gia.

Gia lives in the city but she’s spending her summer in a beach rental in the beautiful Hamptons. She’s working on writing a romance novel but every day has been a struggle for her to find inspiration for her book, that’s until she meets the ultra sexy millionaire, and bar owner, Rush.

Rush and Gia become fast friends. She’s the first person to stand up to him and give him attitude, and that turns him on, big time. The sexual tension between them is constant but also they develop a strong and loyal friendship.

Never to be one to do serious relationships, Rush struggles with the strong feelings he has for Gia. But she wants him and she will try everything to try to get him to see how good they are together but it’s not going to be easy.

Rebel Heir is book one of this exciting romance duet. These authors together always create magic and this time around they are keeping us right on the edge of our seats with this highly anticipated story, that for sure will go to the top of the favorite summer romance list of everyone who reads it. I’ll be counting down the days until I can get my hands on the next book.

”You’ve always really had it.” “You’re loyalty?” He shook his head. ”You said, sometimes you have to let go of the things you never really had. You’ve had my love since day one. You’ve had me since day one. I was just too chicken-shit to admit it.”

REBEL HEIR is the first installment of a duet series written by the incomparable writing due of Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward. I have loved just about every book they’ve created together as well as their individual projects. For the first time, they are tackling a series together. So far the ”RUSH DUET” is off to a very good start!

Gia is a feisty and wildly spirited young woman. She’s an aspiring romance author who is renting a house in the Hamptons with several other tenants in order to give her inspiration while she attempts to write her first novel. She meets Rush, the sinfully sexy but rough around the edges businessman while she covers her roommate’s bartending shift at a popular local restaurant/bar. Gia fails miserably as a bartender and unfortunately for her the owner witnesses the entire debacle. He threatens to fire her friend while also acting like a complete belligerent jerk towards her. But Gia is not the kind of women to meekly bow out from a confrontation and she gives back just as good as she gets from Rush. He winds up giving her a job as a Hostess and from that night on the two are nearly inseparable and there’s no denying the white-hot chemistry that exists between them.

While Rush can be hot-headed and is feared by most of his employees, Gia knows that he has a kind heart underneath it all and nothing he says or does seems to get to her. She’s the only one aside from his mother, who knows how to handle him. From the moment they met Rush has lusted after Gia but he puts the brakes on any chances at a romantic entanglement with her when he makes it clear that he NEVER gets involved with his employees. But every day that they spend together seems to be wearing the both of them down.

Rush has never been in a serious relationship and it stems from his childhood. He was raised by an amazing single mom but knowing what his deadbeat loser of a father did to her, has left emotional scars. He fears that he has some of his Dad’s evil blood pumping in his veins and would never want to repeat the mistakes of his father.

Gia is falling hopelessly in love with Rush and it becomes abundantly clear that Rush is no match against her determination. Once these two give in to their feelings, their passion for each other burns brighter than the sun. But the couple’s happiness is soon challenged by an unexpected surprise with a disturbing connection! This ends on a big cliffhanger that, to be honest, I had predicted easily.

Can Rush and Gia’s relationship survive once the big truth is revealed?

REVIEW – LOVE AND OTHER WORDS by Christina Lauren

SYNOPSIS

The heart may hide, but it never forgets.

The first women’s fiction novel from New York Times and #1 international bestselling author Christina Lauren (Autoboyography, Dating You / Hating You).

Macy Sorensen is settling into an ambitious if emotionally tepid routine: work hard as a new pediatrics resident, plan her wedding to an older, financially secure man, keep her head down and heart tucked away.

But when she runs into Elliot Petropoulos—the first and only love of her life—the careful bubble she’s constructed begins to dissolve. Once upon a time, Elliot was Macy’s entire world—growing from her gangly teen friend into the man who coaxed her heart open again after the loss of her mother…only to break it on the very night he declared his love for her.

Told in alternating timelines between Then and Now, teenage Elliot and Macy grow from friends to much more—spending weekends and lazy summers together in a house outside of San Francisco reading books, sharing favorite words, and talking through their growing pains and triumphs. As adults, they have become strangers to one another until their chance reunion. Although their memories are obscured by the agony of what happened that night so many years ago, Elliot will come to understand the truth behind Macy’s decade-long silence, and will have to overcome the past and himself to revive her faith in the possibility of an all-consuming love.

*****4.5 STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Publisher}

I give myself three more seconds to look at him, and it’s like another punch to the gut. He’s my person. He’s always been my person. My best friend, my confidant, probably the love of my life. And I’ve spent the last eleven years being angry and self-righteous. But at the end of the day, he tore a hole in us, and fate ripped it wide open.

LOVE AND OTHER WORDS is by far, different from any of the previous books I have read by Christina Lauren. I was expecting a funny and equally sexy romantic comedy but what I got was a slow building story of first love, lost love, deep sorrow, and ultimately a second chance at a once in a lifetime kind of love. I really didn’t know how to feel about this book. The first half, for me, was too slow. We get the entire story told in the Heroine’s, POV, and at times I wished that we could get inside the Hero’s head. The traveling from past to present helped to depict the depth of the feelings the main characters had for each other. Their shared connection through their mutual love of books made the story so painfully sweet. I’m not the biggest fan of the ”slow build”, but for authors I love, I will persevere and I’m so glad that I did because, by the time I got halfway through this one, I fell so hopelessly in love! This is a ”wait for it” type of story. It sneaks up on you slowly and then before you know it, you will have tears streaming down your cheeks and be overcome by overwhelming emotions!!

Macy and Elliot met when they were around twelve. After Macy’s mother passed away, she and her father were beyond grief-stricken, but her mother left a journal of instructions for her father to follow in order to help him raise and care for their beloved daughter. Her mother asked that if it looked like life was getting Macy down, that her father needed to take her somewhere to get her mind off of her sorrows and bring back the light of happiness in her eyes. So Macy’s dad buys a summer home about an hour’s drive away from San Francisco, and it’s during her first walk through her bedroom that she meets a boy with dark curly hair and soulful hazel eyes hanging out in her walk-in closet, engrossed in a book.

The two hit it off from day one and over the next several years they become the best of friends. Always waiting underneath the surface are feelings deeper than friendship and no matter how badly Macy wants to move to the next level past ”friends”, her fear of things going wrong and losing Elliot forever, keep the two from becoming more. Elliot wants to be more so desperately but is ever the patient friend because he too couldn’t imagine his life without Macy in it. Then something happens that tears them apart and eleven years go by before they come face to face again.

Macy and Elliot are almost thirty and it would seem that in all the time they’ve spent apart, neither have really been living their lives. They’ve been merely existing. Macy is a pediatric surgeon in her first year of residency. She’s engaged to a forty-two-year-old single father who she has at best, lukewarm feelings for. You will feel like shaking her when you realize that she seems to be content with a relationship that she could live with or without just as easily. The minute she and Elliot run into each other it’s like she’s waking up from an eleven-year coma. And it’s the same for Elliot too. I wanted them to go back to what they had but the wall made up of pain and incredible hurt still seems to exist between them. I was dying to find out what had happened all those years ago to cause such a terrible rift and still had such a hold on the two of them.

When everything is revealed, my heart split wide open and I had tears streaming down my face. What an emotional rollercoaster that I never expected to ride while reading a Christina Lauren book!! These two can write gut-wrenching, heartbreaking, and emotionally gripping stories just as amazing as their romantic comedies! I am a fan for life!

Heroine: 4.5

Angst: 4.5

SYNOPSIS

Happily married to her college sweetheart, Poppy lived a blessed life with the husband of her dreams. Then everything changed. She is no longer a wife. She is no longer the envy of her single friends. Now, people look at her with pity as they whisper a single word behind her back.

Widow.

Years after her husband’s tragic death, years of pain and sorrow and wishing for the life she’ll never get back, Poppy decides to finish Jamie’s birthday list. She’ll do the things he wanted to most. Because maybe, just maybe, if she can complete his list, she can start to live again.

Poppy expects going through the birthday list will be hard. She expects it to hurt. But what she doesn’t expect is Cole. Could the man who delivered the news of her husband’s death and shattered her heart be the one to help her put it back together again?

*****4.5 STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

My heart had been in pieces since the night Jamie had been killed. It had taken every day of the last five years for the pain in my chest to fade to a dull ache. Still, it was there. And after every one of my interactions with Cole, that ache flared. Because when I was with Cole, I wasn’t remembering Jamie. Cole made me forget the pain.

”THE BIRTHDAY LIST” is my first read by the amazing Devney Perry and it will definitely not be my last. I’ve got yet another author to add to my ”Must Read” shelf. This story was simply INCREDIBLE!! It had a gripping plot, loveable Heroine, and one of the most amazing and swoon worthiest Heroes I’ve come across in a while. Cole Goodman is absolutely perfect, so much so, that I sighed quite often because let’s face it, there isn’t a man like him that exists outside the pages of this wonderful book! All I can say is that I see why there’s been so much love for this author’s previous works. If you haven’t tried anything by her yet, this would be a perfect one to start off with.

Poppy Maysen was once married to her college sweetheart. They were deeply in love and unbelievably happy. But one tragic night before their first wedding anniversary, Jamie is killed during a senseless act of violence and life as Poppy knows it is never the same again. Five years have passed, and Poppy has not found a way to move on from her grief. She doesn’t know how to let go and deep down she’s afraid that if she did, she would be dishonoring Jamie’s memory. After so many of her loved ones encourage her to pick up the pieces of her life and start living again, she opens up a restaurant. This has been a lifelong dream and it’s one of the items listed on Jamie’s ”birthday list”. Before Jamie died, he put together a list of tasks he wanted to complete before each of his upcoming birthdays. Tasks like taking a karate class, buying a restaurant for Poppy, skydiving, etc. Poppy thinks that if she completes all of Jamie’s birthday list tasks that somehow it will give her closure and then she might be able to move on from the past. Early on in her journey to tackle Jamie’s list she runs into Cole Goodman, the police officer that delivered the heartbreaking news on her doorstep that changed her life forever. She can’t ignore the strong connection she feels towards him and it’s messing with her head.

Cole recognizes Poppy the moment he lays eyes on her. He remembered how strong she was after getting the devastating news, and she hasn’t forgotten the warm and compassionate man who stayed by her side in her living room until her brother was able to come and take care of her. Cole is stunned by Poppy’s beauty and all he wants is to get a chance to be a part of her life. He senses right away that Poppy hasn’t been able to let go of her husband and that if there’s any chance for him to be in her life, he’s going to have to take things super slow and does he ever! Cole finds out about Poppy’s restaurant and conveniently shows up for lunch on a regular basis and the two form an easy friendship. He’s completely smitten with Poppy and deep down she is incredibly attracted to Cole but is so afraid to let him into her heart because she fears that she’ll end up forgetting about Jamie and what they once shared.

Cole is a man on a mission. He wants Poppy more than anything and will take her any way he can get her, and so he offers to help complete all the tasks on Jamie’s birthday list. As they set out on this incredible journey together, Poppy’s heart is starting to beat again but now it’s for someone new, and yet she still finds it hard to let Jamie go.

Will Poppy wake up and realize that true love can come in someone’s life more than once? Is Cole fighting impossible odds and how long will he truly wait on the sidelines for the woman who has stolen his heart?

REVIEW – THE SECRET THIEF by Nina Lane

SYNOPSIS

Behind his beautiful eyes
Lay a thousand secrets and lies.

But my own secrets are all laid bare
The twisted reality of a disgraceful affair.

I once deciphered the mysteries hidden in art
Then mistakes and desire tore me apart.

Now I’m shipwrecked at the end of the earth
Desperate again to prove my worth.

The lighthouse keeper is a stranger to me
Yet one night with him sets me free.

We find ourselves united by the stars above
Both of us needing the salvation of love.

Until our secrets and shame continue to build
And what was flourishing will soon be killed.

He brings his hands to either side of my neck, tilting my head to just the right angle, and presses his lips to mine. For the first time in my life, I know what it means to be kissed right to your soul, to feel a kiss in every inch of your body.

THE SECRET THIEF is an adult contemporary standalone written by the talented Nina Lane. Over the last several years I have read almost every one of her books and am one of her biggest fans. This story is a little different from anything I’ve read by her in the past. It had a fairy tale feel to it, but we also still get some of Ms. Lane’s signature brand of sexy and some of the sweet banter between the Hero and Heroine that I recognized from her ”Spiral of Bliss” series. The author continuously creates mouthwateringly sexy alpha male Heroes that get my temperature rising and she most definitely did that when she created Flynn Alverton. He’s a mystery that readers, as well as the Heroine, will be consumed with. I was anxious for all of his secrets to be revealed.

Eve Perrin is the newest resident of Castille, Maine. Her beloved uncle who recently passed left his old estate located in the town to her in his will. The move to Maine is both welcome and necessary for Eve. She was an art history professor back in U.C.L.A. but unwittingly got involved with a married man which later turned into a huge scandal and branded her as a ”whore”, and crazed stalker. Neither of those labels was true. She was just a victim of bad judgment and naivete. Eve hopes that she’ll be able to start fresh in Castille, but when she gets turned down for every job she tries to apply for, it becomes apparent that her “reputation” has followed her all the way from California. Her mother definitely had a hand in her predicament. She had no qualms about publicly shaming her daughter at a local restaurant and it only ended up fueling town gossip about poor Eve.

During her first day in town, she visits the lighthouse which is a landmark of Castille. She comes across the wall of secrets. It contains people’s secrets written on pieces of paper that are rolled up and placed between the wall’s stone crevices. She notices a man staring down at her from the top of the lighthouse and even though she can only make out the shape of him, she can’t help but feel a strange connection to him. Days later when she has lost all hope after having received yet another rejection from a potential employer, the man from the lighthouse ends up being her savior. The sexy lighthouse keeper who has been the star of her nightly fantasies offers her a dream job. He was good friends with her late uncle and was able to acquire his vast collection of fairy tale books that her mother auctioned off instead of giving them to Eve like she should have. Eve will be responsible for organizing and cataloging all of her uncle’s books.

Eve learns quickly that Flynn is guarded and keeps mainly to himself. He is known as the town recluse. Flynn keeps her at arm’s length and gives her a set of rules to adhere to as his employee. She’s not allowed in the lighthouse and his living quarters, and she is to refrain from asking him personal questions. As the days go by, Eve spends a lot of time alone at work but eventually, Flynn ends up showing up for her lunch and tea breaks. They begin to develop an easy friendship, but Eve wants more, and she suspects that Flynn does as well. There’s something that haunts Flynn and whenever Eve brings something up that hits a nerve, his impenetrable wall comes up quickly.

Flynn isn’t the only one with a past that haunts him. Eve is still reeling from the relationship that threw her into an embarrassing scandal which ultimately destroyed her career. She doesn’t trust her judgment in men. Flynn seems dangerous to her and even though her mind is sending her huge warning signals, it’s her heard that is inexplicably drawn to him.

I wanted so badly to get inside Flynn’s head, but the story is told in Eve’s point of view. We do eventually learn all of his secrets and it did absolutely nothing to lessen my love for his character. I thought that Eve was a likable character and I understood why she was so beaten down by her past, but I wished that she had the backbone to put her wicked mother in her place.

REVIEW – SOMETHING SO UNSCRIPTED (Something So #4) by Natasha Madison

SYNOPSIS

Zack

Finding my teammate in bed with my wife made the decision I had been fighting with for years easier.

It’s time to move on.

A fresh start and a new NHL team in a big city. Most importantly, it’s my son Jack’s best shot.

It would be both of our best shots.

Denise

After a bad childhood, I made sure I would succeed.

The problem is I die a little with each patient I lose. It’s part of my career at Hudson Children’s Oncology Hospital, but it doesn’t make the sting of loss any easier.

Seeking anything other than a life saved isn’t on my agenda until a NHL player walks into my hospital with his son.

We’re officially off script the moment we meet.

If this love is anything, it’s unscripted.

*****Dee’s Review*****

FIVE HEART-MELTING STARS*****

Little by little, book by book, Natasha Madison is climbing into the hearts and the favorite, top book lists of all of us readers. If you haven’t tried one of her books, this is your chance. Something So Unscripted is one of those captivating reads that will hold your heart and your attention throughout the entire reading.

A beautiful story about the love between father and son. Both fighting fiercely for a brighter future. Denise, the heroine is a woman who always puts everyone needs before hers, and she too will be just as captivated as us with the adorable father, son duo.

Zack has been betrayed by two of the people closest to him. The problem is, he doesn’t have time to mourn the loss of those who broke his heart and his trust, his main focus is on his son Jack. In an effort to find the best for their future, Zack asks to be transferred to another hockey team, where unbeknownst to him he will find a group of men who would battle with him inside and out of the ice, and also a woman who is willing to give her best to him and his son.

Zack, Jack, and Denise are a trio of characters that will immediately steal your heart. Their story has so much depth and their love is so intense that it simply shines through the pages of this magnificent novel. Hands down my favorite book of this series, and a top favorite read of the year.

REVIEW – SAVAGE PRINCE (Savage Trilogy, #1) by Meghan March

SYNOPSIS

Who knew things could get even darker and dirtier in New Orleans? New York Times bestselling author Meghan March introduces the Savage Prince of the city, the man you never want to meet.

* * *
I do what I want and who I want. I don’t follow anyone’s rules—even my own.
I knew I shouldn’t touch her, but it didn’t stop me.
Didn’t stop me the second time either. Only made me want a third.
My lifestyle suits the savage I am, and she doesn’t.
But Temperance Ransom is my newest addiction, and I’m nowhere near ready to quit her yet.
I’ll have her my way, even if it means dragging her into the darkness.
Hopefully it doesn’t kill us both.

Savage Prince is book one of the Savage Trilogy, set in the same world as Ruthless King, however you do not need to read the Mount Trilogy to devour this scandalously hot new trilogy.

*****FOUR STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

I don’t know anything about him except he’s dangerous. At least, according to Magnolia. But even that doesn’t curb my growing addiction. My rational brain tells me I can’t keep doing this. That tonight has to be the last time. It’s not smart. It’s not safe. But my body disagrees. I have to keep doing this.

SAVAGE PRINCE is book one of a spin-off trilogy of the ”Mount” series. It is a standalone series but you may want to read the Mount Trilogy because it will give you a better sense of the kind of environment the main characters come from and it was a super sexy and action-packed thrill ride. This story didn’t take long at all to dive into the steamy bits and from what I can tell so far it might just tip the scales in the sexy department.

As the COO of the Seven Sinners Distillery, Temperance Ransom is Keira Kilgore’s trusted second in command and friend. She’s come a long way from the wrong side of the tracks that she grew up in. While she is happy with her career it does take up most of her time and it’s been quite a while since she’s had a man in her life. On her way to what she thought was a business meeting she somehow ends up in one of New Orlean’s most exclusive sex clubs. It is there that she meets a masked stranger with piercing blue eyes who knows how to fulfill all of her sexual desires. After their first encounter, Temperance becomes addicted to this man.

While she has no idea who the masked man is, she is warned by a friend who works at the club, that he’s dangerous and that she shouldn’t get attached. Even though her gut is telling her to stay away, she can’t seem to resist meeting up with him whenever he sends her an invitation. Temperance is starting to develop real feelings for this man and it upsets her because she doesn’t even know his name.

Temperance is in for a rude awakening when the sexy stranger’s identity is revealed. Their affair might be over before it even has a chance to get started.

*****Dee’s Review*****

Infinite Stars***********

I want to start my review by reflecting on how for years so many women have struggled in silence, trapped in abusive relationships or in bad situations that seemed impossible to escape. I’m very proud to be a woman in this day and age because every day I see more women coming out to fight and put a stop to the injustice. This female movement is powerful, and it keeps growing by the day. Long Shot is part of this campaign because it’s a story that gives hope, strength and inspiration, about how you CAN do it, you CAN escape, change, and even help others, even through your own suffering. Don’t let the pain and the hurt define you. You are more, you deserve more.

This is truly an important and beautiful story.

One night at a sports bar a boy meets a girl. Both full of dreams, both with a bright future ahead. Their chemistry undeniable, but their attraction cursed by very bad timing.

August never forgot about the beautiful Iris. Other than playing basketball he’s never wanted anything more than to be able to kiss her lips. And Iris saw in August’s eyes everything she’s always wanted but her heart belonged to another, at least she was fooled into believing it did.

Throughout the years, pain and darkness descended into Iris’s life. The once full of life and strong-willed girl had slowly disappeared, but inside her heart, there was a tiny light of hope, fueled by love and hope of finding herself one day again.

No matter the time, the money, or the fame August never stopped loving Iris. Will their timing ever be right, or will they both always be afraid to finally take the shot?

This book truly felt like a gift. I loved it beyond measure. It was perfect, it was cruel, it was raw but so beautiful.

REVIEW – OUR UNSCRIPTED STORY by L.A. Fiore

SYNOPSIS

Greyson Ratcliffe. I met him at sixteen, the hot new guy sitting on my jetty, an aspiring artist just passing through. He was my first kiss and my first love. I wanted forever with him. I didn’t even get a year.

Five years later, I’m a budding writer who scripts stories of love and struggle, the good and the bad and the ups and the downs. He’s a star on the rise; his wicked talent and crazy good looks have his face plastered on countless magazines. We move in two different worlds and still our paths cross again. We’re older and wiser and as crazy about each other as we had been as teenagers.

My medium is words and my imagination is limitless, but not even I could have written the incredible journey we traveled to reach our happily-ever-after. Life isn’t like fiction, and the greatest love stories don’t follow a script.

*****FIVE STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

He stood and reached for my hand. I didn’t know what it was about that moment, but it was one I knew I would remember always. The way he looked in the moonlight. His wide palm held out to me, the look of interest on his face that matched my own. I slipped my hand into his and knew with certainty that my life would never be the same.

I knew just after having read a few chapters of this book that this was going to be an epic love story. It was literally ”unputdownable”!! The story flows so perfectly. I love it when my attention is grabbed from the very beginning and is never lost throughout. There were never any moments of boredom for me. This book had it all. An endearing Heroine, a terrific plot, scorching hot steam, and a seriously charismatic Hero who I couldn’t help but fall in love with from the moment he enters the story. Greyson Ratcliffe is one of those book boyfriends that will sweep you off your feet so wholly and effortlessly.

Alexis Owens was abandoned by her parents when she was only two-years-old. All she has is an old letter from her father telling her that she is loved. She has been loving with her foster parents for nearly fourteen years of her life and they were hardly what you would call ”loving” parental figures. They rarely paid much attention to her. She lived in their house as an invisible entity. Alexis turned to writing to ease her pain. She would create alternate realities through her stories and it helped her endure her dismal circumstances. While she wasn’t the most popular girl in school because to most she seemed a bit odd, she did have a few really close friends who became her surrogate family.

Her life is changed forever when she locks eyes with the most beautiful boy she’s ever seen on her favorite beach where she often goes to in order to be alone with her thoughts. She feels something pulling her to him and days after that one encounter, the boy has not left her thoughts in the least. She can’t believe her luck when he ends up being the new student at her high school and it gets even better when he walks into one of her classes.

For the first several chapters we get the story in Alexis’s POV and I was thinking that the entire book was only going to be in her narrative which I have to admit disappointed me because Greyson’s character was so intriguing from the very start that I was dying to know what was going on in his mind. I was ecstatic when the story then started to alternate between Greyson’s and Alexis’s POVs. To find out that he was feeling the same strong sense of connection to Alexis, had me floating on cloud nine.

Greyson has just moved from Ireland to the U.S. with his grandfather in order to pursue a very promising career as an artist. The plan is for Greyson to study with a world-renowned artist which will also include traveling around the globe to promote his art, right after his high school graduation. He never intended to fall in love so quickly with Alexis and now the thought of pursuing his dream and leaving her behind has left him with a heavy heart. While the two enjoy the short time they have together they both know that their love affair is nearing its end. Not only does Greyson have set plans for his future but Alexis also wants to pursue her dreams of becoming a famous writer. She has a full scholarship with NYU and her dream is to become a successful screenwriter for blockbuster Hollywood movies or a playwright for off-Broadway shows. While they would love nothing more than to stay together, they both know that the timing isn’t right for them but promise that in a few years they will reconnect and rekindle the love they shared.

Several years go by and Alexis has never forgotten about Greyson, nor has she moved on from him. He’s become a very famous and successful artist. His face is plastered on every magazine cover. If she even tried to avoid hearing about him, it would be nearly impossible. The two end up seeing each other again and it’s as if the years that were lost between them never existed. The spark is still very much alive and this time they vow that nothing will keep them apart. But there are threats looming over them that could potentially destroy their chance at happiness.

REVIEW – WHAT HE ALWAYS KNEW (What He Doesn’t Know Duet #2) by Kandi Steiner

SYNOPSIS

Left or right.

It’s that simple, and it isn’t simple at all.

If I turn left, the road will lead me back to the man I promised my life to, the one I’d imagined building a family with, the one who’s done everything in his power to get me back.

If I turn right, the road will take me to the man I loved first, the man who brought me back to life, the man who would do anything to keep me.

I knew the fork in the road was inevitable; it was the decision I never wanted to make between choices I didn’t know I had.

And I love them both.

My heart is destined to exist in two equal halves — one with each man. But one half beats stronger, the vein running deepest, and holds my choice in silence long before I know it for myself.

The realization of what I have to do, of the heart I have to break, just might break mine too.

Left or right.

All I have to do is take a breath and turn.

My heart was forever severed, destined to exist in two equal halves—one with each man. But one half beat stronger, one half had the vein that ran deepest, and one half held my choice in silence well before I ever admitted it out loud.

The other half would always be a part of me, but in a softer way—a more subdued beating, a quieter presence, a different kind of life support.

A different kind of love.

I’m still reeling from the roller coaster of emotions this story made me suffer through. This was simply one FANTASTIC series!! The angst was unbearable at times but the outcome was so worth the torture. In the first half of the duet, I thought I knew which man deserved to be with Charlie but by the end of it, a little seed of doubt had been planted in my mind. From the beginning of this second half of the duet, my mind and heart had picked the guy, and although I often felt that he was too good for Charlie, I did want him to be happy and only Charlie was going to make that happen for him! The plot development helped me decide early on how I wanted the story to end and I am thankful for that because I don’t think my heart could have taken being torn down the middle the way Charlie’s was.

Reese and Cameron are each determined to win Charlie’s heart. She loves both of them but knows that in two months, she’ll have to break one of their hearts when she has to let them go. It’s a slow and painful kind of torture for her. Although during book one I had sympathy for her, in this second half of the story I thought she was selfish and even a bit cruel. If it were up to me, I would have had her lose both men.

To give any more details would definitely be considered a spoiler. All I can tell you is that I am happy with how it turned out and if my guy weren’t chosen, this would have been a four instead of a five-star read. I will say that towards the end I thought Charlie was going to choose wrong and tears were streaming down my face! The author was just a little evil for throwing that curveball in there like that!!

REVIEW – SWEEPING THE SERIES (Balls In Play #3) by Kate Stewart

SYNOPSIS

Ren Makavoy is one season away from realizing his Major League dreams. Unfortunately, his bad-boy reputation off the field has landed him in hot water. Ren swears his days of drinking, brawling, and seducing starlets are over, but management sees fit to bring in PR to clean up his act. Determined to prove himself as a reputable catcher, his plans of playing along backfire when he comes face to face with the woman who shattered his heart.

She is the last hope of saving his reputation.

And things are about to get a hell of a lot hotter.

This sinfully sexy second-chance romantic dramedy is a stand-alone and spinoff of The Balls in Play Series. Join the rest of the gang from Anything but Minor and Major Love for one last season of love, laughter, and baseball.

Even as I settled into the role I was expected to play, I didn’t play it well. I tried everything, and no part of me wanted to forget. Loving her was torture. And the realization that I was still so much in love with her, well, that was the cruelest punishment.

I want to give Kate Stewart the biggest hug, and smooch and then a fist bump because this short story was absolute PERFECTION!! I may have to switch teams and choose Ren McAvoy as my new favorite book boyfriend created by Ms. Stewart!! Who knew this character had it in him to be such a charismatic Hero??!! I don’t think I can find the words to truly express just how much I fell in love with this novella!! It was fabulous from beginning to end and it’s got Kate’s signature ”HOTTER THAN H” steam!! What a terrific addition to the ”Balls in Play” series! If you love Second Chance Romances, this one is sure to steal your hearts!

Ren McAvoy and Erica Wild were once madly in love with each other but one day without an explanation or an apology, Erica packed up and left her life with Ren just when he was making it to the big leagues. For the next two years, Ren will be labeled the “bad boy” of MLB, bedding a different woman every night and having his escapades splattered all over the gossip magazines. When management decides they’ve had enough of his antics they hire a new PR agent to get his reputation back in a favorable light. Ren is shocked and maybe even a little excited to meet his new agent who turns out to be the woman who broke his heart, Erica.

There’s a lot of heated arguments, angst, and comedic moments with all the beloved characters from the previous books. It was terrific to get the chance to spend some more time with Rafe, Alice, Andy, and April! They made for a perfect ensemble cast! I loved SWEEPING THE SERIES so much that I wish Kate would write more installments but I believe this will be the end of it.
