Life is going to try to push you under the water—stand on you, smashing you to the ground way down below. It’s dark and cold, and you’ll feel as though you’re suffocating. You’ll be alone. So fucking alone. Don’t drown.

ENZO was another decadent and yummy treat from K. Webster’s ”Taboo World” series of books. Every story involves May/December wildly erotic romances between couples who should be forbidden fruit to each other, with over the top ”happily ever afters”.

This time the romance is between a beautiful girl in the foster care system, who is a month away from her eighteenth birthday, and her much older, devastatingly handsome social worker, Enzo. For the first time I actually really liked the young Heroine. The author gave this girl a beautiful heart and instead of making her a spoiled and vapid teenager, Jenna was a young woman who puts the needs of a sweet orphaned baby girl above her own. Jenna and Cora’s bond added heart to the story.

I think this one may be my favorite. I love that these are quick and entertaining reads and just really help to relax the brain after having to endure so much stress that only work seems to bring to my life. It’s fun escapism.

Here are my overall ratings:

REVIEW – WE SHOULDN’T by Vi Keeland

SYNOPSIS:

Bennett Fox walked into my life on one hell of a crappy Monday morning.

I was late for the first day at my new job—a job I’d now have to compete for even though I’d already worked eight years to earn it, because of an unexpected merger.

While I lugged my belongings up to my new office, a meter maid wrote me a parking summons.

She’d ticketed a long line of cars—except for the Audi parked in front of me, which happened to be the same make and model as mine.

Annoyed, I decided to regift my ticket to the car that had evaded a fine. Chances were, the owner would pay it and be none the wiser.

Except, I accidentally broke the windshield wiper while slipping the ticket onto the car’s window.

Seriously, my day couldn’t get any worse.

Things started to perk up when I ran into a gorgeous man in the elevator. We had one of those brief moments that only happened in movies.

You know the deal…your body lights up, fireworks go off, and the air around you crackles with electricity.

His heated stare left me flush when I stepped off the elevator.

Maybe things here wouldn’t be so bad after all.

Or so I thought.

Until I walked into my new boss’s office and met my competition.

The gorgeous man from the elevator was now my nemesis. His heated stare wasn’t because of any mutual attraction. It was because he’d seen me vandalize his car. And now he couldn’t wait to annihilate his rival.

There’s a fine line between love and hate—and we shouldn’t cross it.

We shouldn’t—but straddling that line could be so much fun.

”Thank you for loving me even when I hated myself.” My heart let out a big sigh. That’s the thing about love. We don’t fall in love with the perfect person; we fall in love despite a person’s imperfections.

WE SHOULDN’T is an “enemies to lovers” office romance between two co-workers competing for the same job at their advertising agency. Bennett is a sexy, overly cocky, ladie’s man, who doesn’t believe in relationships. Annalise is the beautiful and sweet new co-worker who’s nursing a broken heart after being dumped on Valentine’s day. Bennett and Anna get off to a rocky start and things between them become even more strained when they learn they are rivals for the same job.

The sexual tension between them was a bit torturous and drawn out a little too long for my taste, and Bennett wasn’t a Hero that I found easy to love in the beginning. There were hints that he had gone through something tragic that obviously impacted his inability to commit to a woman and it was his endearing relationship with his twelve-year-old god son that humanized Bennett for me. He was a very frustrating character and his constant push and pull behavior towards Anna was borderline tiresome.

Once Bennett shows his vulnerability, the book became nearly impossible to put down. Bennett turned into the swoon worthy Hero he was always meant to be.

*****FIVE STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

I didn’t know how we had gotten here, to this place. I didn’t know how he, the man I was never meant to like, let alone desire, had become my sun. Had become the star of my every waking thought. But he had. He had become my center—the anchor that kept me still.

The seventh installment of the ”Hades Hangmen” series wasn’t as painfully dark as some of the earlier books, but still had an amazing plot, passionate romance, and heart-pounding action. The adversaries in this book continue to be the hierarchy of the Ku Klux Klan and a powerful Mexican cartel who formed a partnership through their dealings in human trafficking. The Hangmen may not be fighting against the insane religious Cult anymore but they are still fighting the same war and acting as the protectors of innocent women and children.

Tanner Ayers, Prince of the Ku Klux Klan, and Adelita Quintana, Princess of a Mexican drug cartel did not fall in love at first sight. They were born enemies, but somehow by being forced to spend time with each other, Tanner and Lita learn that they are kindred spirits. They’ve always been forced to lead lives their fathers chose for them. There is no such thing as free will in their world. Bigotry and hate subside and a deep and all-consuming love develops between them.

Tanner ends up leaving Lita for a while but promises that he’ll be back to get her. He had to cut ties with the klan and with the help of his best-friend Tank, he found a new family in the Hangmen. He knew he would need his brothers in order to get his woman back.

The Hangmen are in for the fight of their lives. Blood will be shed. Lives are cut short. Shocking truths are revealed. All of our favorite Hangmen and their old ladies play pivotal roles in this wildly entertaining storyline. I could not put this book down until I got to the very end!

Angst: 4.5

REVIEW – THE CONSEQUENCE OF FALLING by Claire Contreras

SYNOPSIS

The list of things I hate is short. Not even my soon-to-be ex-husband is on that list. Nope. I save only the worst of the worst, the crème de la crème, the absolute I cannot even for this list . . .

1. Black coffee
2. Rude people
3. Nathaniel Bradley

Which is why when my father informs me that he’s making Nathaniel Bradley his new business partner, and in turn, my boss, I flip out.

1. He’s an annoying know-it-all.
2. He calls me a spoiled princess every chance he gets.
3. He disapproves of everything I do.

I go into this knowing I’ll hate every second in his presence. Except the longer he’s around, the more I find myself staring at his lips and remembering the one time they were on mine. I randomly find myself looking at his hands and wondering how they’d feel on my skin.
I try to snap out of it, but I guess I’m not as smart as I thought I was. No matter how many times I remind myself of the times I’ve practically thrown myself at him and he’s pushed me away, I keep falling little by little.

I’d always heard that it was a bad idea to mix business with pleasure and if that’s the case, this thing with Nathaniel has demise written all over it.

FIVE STARS *****

YESSSSSSS! All the feels!!!!!!!

Nate and Presley have known each other for a long time; the attraction was always there, but the timing was never right.

Mutual pain is what will bring them together, but can they withstand the ups and downs of love?

Sexy, angsty and utterly beautiful. Claire Contreras will take you on a sweet journey that will give you goosebumps, a spiked heart rate, and every other intense feeling in between. Truly a fantastic read, not to miss!

REVIEW – RIVER WILD by Samantha Towle

A new town. A new identity. Pregnant and alone.
And far away from a past that can never find me.

River Wild.
Moody. Sullen. Asshole.
And my new neighbor.

I have no interest in befriending River. And he definitely doesn’t want to be befriended by me.

Then, he helps me rescue an abandoned dog. And, that day, I see something in his eyes that reflects back in my own. Sadness. Pain. Loneliness.

I know all of those things well.

An unwanted and unexpected friendship that somehow works. Then, without warning, it turns into something more.

River and I both have our secrets, and that’s okay. Because I understand him. And he understands me.

For the first time in my life, I have something I never thought I would have—happiness.

But happiness isn’t forever. Not for people like me.

Especially not when my past is waiting just around the corner, ready to come and take it all away.

Love is like a river, never ending as it flows but gets greater with time.

Once I picked this book up, there was no putting it down until I got to the end. RIVER WILD starts off with some very painful subject matter, and the author does add a note at the beginning of the book, warning that the situations in her story can be triggers for some readers. Know this going in! But, I have to say this story was beautiful and it would be a shame for anyone to miss out on it. Samantha Towle has knocked it out of the park with this one!

Carrie Ford has just moved to a small town in Texas under a new identity. She had to in order to provide her unborn child with a better life. Staying with her abusive husband was not an option. She’s been to hell and back and yet there is still so much purity & sweetness in her. She tries to make friends with her next-door neighbor, but he is one hell of a prickly bastard who is obnoxious and rude to her every chance he gets.

But River’s cold exterior is no match for the sweet and endearing Carrie. These two may seem as different as night and day, however, they’re kindred spirits in their horrifying pasts that still haunt them. River has only ever loved two people in his life, his mother and grandmother. They’re the only people who ever showed him true love and compassion. Ugly rumors about his family have spread throughout town, and he’s learned to keep his distance from the outside world until Carrie moves next door to him. River and Carrie are inexplicably drawn to each other and it’s through their special bond that they’re able to start on the path to healing.

REVIEW – A PLACE WITHOUT YOU by Jewel E. Ann

SYNOPSIS

The Law of Henna and Bodhi:
When love breaks, fall inward, fall together, and fall hard. Then let time pick up the pieces.

Everything feels temporary when you’ve experienced tragedy—until Henna Lane meets Bodhi at a music festival.

Young and spontaneous, they have a lust for seizing the moment, falling hard and fast.

When Bodhi is forced to leave without a goodbye, Henna thinks she’ll never get over him. But then she meets Mr. Malone, her sexy, new guidance counselor.

They are reckless.
They are forbidden.

When their secret is discovered, Henna has to choose between finishing school—banned from seeing Mr. Malone—or dropping out to follow her nomad dreams.

Henna chooses her dreams.

Over time, she learns that life is not a destination or a journey, some things are more than temporary, and the forbidden can never be ignored. But if she returns for him, will he still be hers?

A Place Without You is an emotional story of young love, shattered dreams, and impossible decisions.

*****Patty’s Review*****

*****FIVE+++++++++ STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

”Bodhi paints me with his emotions, plays me with his body, takes what’s his, and gives me everything in return.”

“I love this girl with more love that I thought I had left in my heart. Henna takes everything that’s good in my life and multiplies it.”

“Love is not a rational emotion. It jumps out of planes and dives off cliffs. It leaves a permanent mark on everything it touches. I can do the right thing or I can love you, but I can’t do both.”

Jewel E. Ann is one of the greats! Her stories always transport me to my happy place. The characters she creates leave an indelible mark on my heart. I never know exactly what I’m going to get from her stories, but one thing I do know is that she is going to take me down a wild journey filled with crazy love and painful angst. This is the woman that drove me to drink during one of her stories but let me tell you, I will NEVER forget how amazing that book was and it drove me to send her a personal message, just thanking her for writing it. She is just that extraordinary! If you’ve never read any of her books, you need to make it one of your New Year’s resolutions. Get ready to be swept away by Bodhi and Henna’s passionate all-consuming romance!!

I knew early on this book was going to be something extraordinary. Bodhi and Henna are both beautiful characters and their love for each other burns something fierce but they each have endured great tragedy and loss which places huge obstacles in their paths and turns their relationship into the ”forbidden”.

Bodhi and Henna meet at Coachella and spend an incredible weekend together. The chemistry between them ignites fast and furious. While they think at first that they’re only meant to be in each other’s lives for a brief moment in time, it becomes clear within a few hours that something epic is happening before their eyes and they’d give anything to not have to part ways, life is often unfair and even though they are two pieces of a puzzle that fit perfectly together their timing is all wrong.

They’ll eventually be reunited after their memorable weekend at Coachella and what should be a happy twist of fate, ends up being a painful and heartbreaking reminder as to why they can’t ever live their happily ever after.

Brace yourself for the ugly cry and to have your heart twisted due to some painful angst but all I can say is that this story is SOOOOOOO worth the torture because it is simply AMAZEBALLS!!

*****Dee’s Review*****

FIVE +++ Bodhi And Henna Stars*****

Two souls destined to meet in the desert, surrounded by music, covered in sweat, and with no other choice but to fall in love, forever and always.

Both Bodhi and Henna carry pain from their pasts. Different pains, and different coping mechanisms but together they will help each other heal.

From the moment Henna got into the Uber taxi that unbeknownst to her was sharing with the most beautiful man she had ever seen, she felt it in her soul that he was going to change her life forever. She and Bodhi shared a magical afternoon surrounded by people, all there for the music, but these two were in a world of their own.

Fries, ketchup, and a magnificent kiss made their time together utterly unforgettable, and no matter the time or the distance, their love was born unbreakable from the start.

Physical pain, addiction, death, distance, taboo, and time, are some of the things that will try to come between Bodhi and Henna. But their love is wild, organic, simply made to be, and no matter if they are together or alone, near or far, even with other people, no place exists without the other.

This book is a complete story. In true Jewel E. Ann fashion, she won’t leave one emotion untouched. You will feel it all. Every single character is so beautiful and completely relatable. Who hasn’t felt guilt, shame, been crazy in love, frustrated for what they wish it could be but isn’t? Reading this book is like reading a little piece of your own heart. You’ll know it, and you’ll feel it, once you emerge yourself in the pages of A Place Without You

REVIEW – FINDING ALEXEI by Kendall Ryan

SYNOPSIS

He’s bossy, moody, and overprotective.

He’s also a pro athlete who needs to focus on winning games and staying out of the headlines.

I’m fiercely independent and need a man like I need a second period each month.

So when our worlds collide, I never expected him to be the one to jump in and save me. Especially not when my roommate disappears, leaving me with her baby.

I’m clueless about babies—and it shows. Good thing Alexei isn’t. With six nieces and nephews and an apparent hero complex, the dude is both sexy and more than capable. It’s a combination that makes it easy to forget we’re just playing house.

*****Patty’s Review*****
*****4.5 STARS*****

{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

Without a backward glance, I walk out with a hollow feeling inside my chest. A feeling of loss for something that was never really mine to lose.

”FINDING ALEXEI” is a sweet and steamy sports romance between an NFL Linebacker and a down on her luck stripper that will undoubtedly sweep readers off their feet. This one was my favorite out of the series. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the previous books, this can be read as a standalone.

Alex Ivan is one of the hottest players on the Chicago Hawks team. He’s a force to be reckoned with on and off the field. While he seems to be a huge player that is into his own gratification, this guy has the biggest heart. He comes to the rescue of a young woman in distress outside of a seedy topless bar. Alexei offers to give Ryleigh a ride home and when he finds out that she is struggling to get by while caring for her ex-room mate’s three-month-old daughter that she abandoned, something tugs at his heart. Alexei becomes quickly attached to the beautiful girl and adorable baby Ella whose lives are in utter despair.

Ryleigh isn’t like any of the women who Alexei has come across before. She’s not dazzled by his fame and doesn’t accept his help easily. She doesn’t want to be a burden and her pride makes it hard to accept his help, but since she is responsible for Ella’s well-being, she reluctantly accepts what Alexei if offering. This man quickly weaves his way into her heart just as fast as she and Ella have made their way into his. Alexei is sexy, sweet, fiercely protective, and a natural ”Mr, Mom.” Having six little nieces and nephews has made him an expert on child care.

Things quickly heat up between Alexei and Ryleigh but are they a passing fling or could things be building towards something bigger than they ever could have imagined?

REVIEW – THE SECRET TO DATING YOUR BEST FRIEND’s SISTER by Meghan Quinn

SYNOPSIS

How do you date your best friend’s sister? Easy.

Step one: Pretend you want her to set you up with someone else. That will bring the two of you closer.

Step two: Go on date with lots of random women, proceed to get stupid drunk and talk about your best friend’s sister, thus gaining the courage to finally make a move.

Step three: Randomly show up at her apartment and confess your love. Women love that, right?

It all seemed so simple. A fool-proof three step process that will guarantee the love of you life to fall madly in love with you.

At least–that’s what I thought was going to happen. But my attempts to win over Julia Westin backfired in more ways than I can count. The thing about Julia? She’s smart–really smart–and her wicked gaze cuts through all the charm I’ve tried slinging her way. She’s not interested in games, my gifts, or my stories. She might want me too; but she’s not giving in that easy…

*****Patty’s Review*****

*****4.5 STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

And just like that, I feel my heart leap out of my chest and right into Julia’s hands. She holds it; she has it all to herself. But I don’t think she realizes that mine beats because of her—that she has the potential to crush it more than anyone else in my life—and I hope she doesn’t throw it back at me. Ever.

THE SECRET TO DATING YOUR BEST FRIEND’s SISTER has got to be one of the longest titles for a book! I just love me a good romcom by one of my favorite authors, Meghan Quinn. Her humor has me rolling on the floor with a stomach ache from laughing so hard. This story had plenty of laughs, heartbreaking angst, and crazy good love!

Bram Scott is a book boyfriend who will make many a reader swoon. I found it impossible not to fall in love with his character. The lengths he goes to in order to win Julia’s heart are what make him one of the most loveable book boyfriends.

Julia, however, was an extremely frustrating character. It took me a very long time to warm up to her character. I get that her insecurity was a huge factor in why she was so closed off emotionally, but this woman is supposed to be highly intelligent and I didn’t get how she could be so blind to what was right in front of her the whole time. Her stubbornness had me wanting to throw my iPad against the wall a few times.

But Bram is a pretty amazing Hero and when things started to take off between them, my frustration started to diminish, however, if you are a true romance fan, then you know that the happy floating on a cloud times are usually temporary and something ultimately will come along to put the couple’s love for each other to the test. I was right back to disliking Julia again and I knew if she did not make some sort of grand gesture to prove her love for Bram, this was going to be the first time I didn’t love a Meghan Quinn book. Thankfully, Meghan knew what she had to do to make me happy!!

REVIEW – THE KISS QUOTIENT by Helen Hoang

SYNOPSIS

A heartwarming and refreshing debut novel that proves one thing: there’s not enough data in the world to predict what will make your heart tick.

Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases — a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.

It doesn’t help that Stella has Asperger’s and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice — with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can’t afford to turn down Stella’s offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan — from foreplay to more-than-missionary position…

Before long, Stella not only learns to appreciate his kisses, but to crave all the other things he’s making her feel. Soon, their no-nonsense partnership starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic…

Saying nothing, she let the moment wash over her, the uncertainty, the breathless hope, the anxiousness, and the shimmering contentment. The sight of their intertwined hands pleased her. So different, but still five fingers and five knuckles, the same general blueprint. She tightened her grip, and he squeezed her back. Palm to palm, two lonely halves found comfort in together.

Daniel Henney as “Michael Phan”.

AMAZING!!!

If I had taken the time to read the synopsis of this book, I would have gotten to this one so much sooner. I’ve read a few romances where the Hero has Asperger’s but this is the first book I’ve read that it’s the Heroine who has the disorder.

I loved EVERYTHING about this book! The plot and characters were superb! I am beyond thrilled that my last read of 2018 is this spectacular one. Sometimes when I see a ton of five-star reviews for a book by an author I’ve never heard of before, I get a bit skeptical but I can honestly confirm this book deserves ALL THE STARS!!!

REVIEW – PAYBACK’S A BITCH (Awkward Love, #6) by Missy Johnson

SYNOPSIS

I’m the girl who likes ‘the cock in the back hole.’

At least, that’s what the dating profile my so-called friends set up for me claims. I’m also into BDSM, Furries and ‘I’ll try anything twice.’

I have no idea the profile exists until the replies start rolling in. They range from funny, to downright creepy and everything in between. Just as I’m shutting down my email account for good, a new message pops up.

He’s funny and he’s the only one to suspect the profile is a joke, so I think what the hell? I reply.

When he suggests that we meet, I say yes. When I walk into that bar, he’s sitting at a table, facing the other way. He turns his head just enough for me to be able to make out his face…

Fuck.

It’s Cameron Hunter, one of the rudest, most arrogant assholes I’ve ever had the displeasure of meeting. He’s also the son of one of the state’s most influential judges.

The same judge who’s about to become my step-father…

PAYBACK’S A BITCH, the sixth installment of the ”Awkward Love” series by Missy Johnson, is filled with many laugh-out-loud and steamy moments. This is a sweet and oftentimes silly “stepbrother” romance, and I really enjoyed it. Darcy was the crazy best-friend of the Heroine from ”DON’T GO THERE”. I thought she was just a ditzy and immature twenty-year-old, but in her story, I actually felt a little sorry for her.

Darcy’s birthday is on April 1st and her two besties make it a ritual to play some really extremely horrible practical jokes on her. Honestly, with friends like that, she really doesn’t need enemies. They place a kinky and disturbing ad up on some fetish dating website under Darcy’s name and she starts to receive some bizarre text messages and calls. One sicko actually shows up at her parent’s house and confronts her. Luckily, her soon to be step-brother, Cameron, comes to her rescue. Darcy and Cameron have a hate/hate relationship and enjoy slinging verbal insults at each other, but deep down there’s a simmering attraction burning between them.

Cameron decides to teach Darcy a lesson and reaches out to her regarding her personal add under an alias, and they soon begin an online romance. As time passes, they’re both starting to develop real feelings, but Darcy has no idea that her online love interest is actually Cameron. Cameron knows he has to come clean, but will Darcy be understanding when she finds out that Cameron has been lying to her or will she end up hating him forever?

This one turned out to be my favorite of this series. I thought the plot was entertaining and the characters were likable. I found myself laughing out loud almost throughout the entire book. I even learned about a really disturbing and nasty sexual fetish that actually made me a little nauseous!!
