I’ve had the thought almost without realizing it–the encroaching awareness that I feel settled but in truth can’t see my future at all. I have a temporary job, a temporary marriage. Will anything ever be permanent? What the hell am I going to do with my life? I only get one shot at this, and right now, I’m finding my value only in being valuable to others. How do I find value for me?

 

 

I just spent an entire day getting lost in this amazing book! ROOMIES deserves all of the stars for a rating. The plot, characters, and even the vibrant description of the music made this story simply sublime! I never wanted it to end. I fell in love instantly with Holland and Calvin and their slow-burning romance had my heart pounding with anticipation, but never did I feel that there was a lull in the progression of their story. It’s so hard to find a book that has the perfect pace to keep me fascinated from beginning to end, but this one knocked me off of my feet! It’s definitely going on my ”BEST OF 2017” list.

Holland Bakker lives in a small apartment in New York City that her uncles help pay the rent on. She works for her uncle Robert whose musical is a huge hit on Broadway. Holland’s life is in limbo. She’s not pursuing her dream of becoming a writer. It seems as though she’s stuck in a rut and doesn’t know how to move forward. There’s one thing in her life that brings her joy and excitement—a handsome and gifted guitarist whom she sees several times a week playing outside her train station. For six months she’s been crushing on the guy but never has gotten the nerve up to talk to him, then everything changes when she is nearly mugged and pushed on to the train tracks by a homeless man, and her crush comes to her rescue.

When she wakes up in the hospital Holland is a little surprised when the police and hospital staff assumed she was suicidal. She learns that sexy guitar man never reported to the police what actually went down on the subway platform. A couple of nights later, her friend drags her to a dive bar to see a local band play and is floored when she sees a familiar guitar player. Holland approaches him after his set and Calvin’s apologetic demeanor and sexy Irish accent quickly wins her forgiveness. She’s still replaying their conversation over in her head days after their encounter at the bar. When the lead violinist who has several pivotal solos in her uncle’s Broadway show ends up quitting, Holland has an epiphany. She knows that Calvin could take over the lead and he would be brilliant at it and with a little convincing she gets an audition set up for Calvin. He blows everyone away with his raw talent but drops a bomb when he confesses that he can’t accept the job because he’s been in the country illegally for the past four years.

Holland normally plays it safe and never does anything truly crazy but her love for her Uncle and her desire to help Calvin achieve his lifelong dream has her ”proposing” that they get married so that Calvin can get his green card which would allow him to be in her uncle’s show. From the very moment she approaches Calvin with her crazy plan, you can feel this intense chemistry between them. Calvin is so incredibly sweet and charming it was easy to fall madly in love with his character. What makes the story perfect is that the heroine was also just as lovable. Her inherent nature to always put others before herself and her inability to see that she was someone worth loving made her character so endearing.

I was dying from the anticipation for when they would realize that their relationship was far from ”fake” and well when it happens let’s just say we are taken on a rough and wild rollercoaster ride full of angst and emotions. Theirs is not an easy road to true and everlasting love but I always say it’s the level of angst that makes the ending that much sweeter.

Excerpt:

I set down my champagne flute, untouched, and waited, my arms folded across my chest.

But what he said next surprised me. “What kind of life do you envision for yourself? What’s your dream future?” Instead of immediately hounding me about my utter disrespect for the sanctity of marriage, he wanted to listen.

This…was new.

I wasn’t prepared, which sort of pissed me off. Not only because it occurred to me that I could have misjudged Nathan Sinclair, but also because I didn’t exactly have a checklist of plans for myself. I just had things I liked doing that I wanted to continue doing, uninterrupted.

“What is it I want from my life?” I repeated back to him, buying time to think about it.

And then when I did think about it I realized I didn’t need the time. I knew exactly what I wanted. “My own stuff, my own space, steady kinky sex in different locations. Happy? I’m leaving.” I spun on my five-inch heels and walked toward the exit. Irritated.

I didn’t know why I was so worked up, maybe because the whole topic was a sore spot. Maybe because even though he hadn’t given the speech yet, I knew it was coming eventually. I didn’t fit into the traditional world with my viewpoints about happily-ever-afters. I already knew that.

Or, maybe I was worked up because people rarely believed it about me when I told them. They always thought that I was lying to them or lying to myself, but I really didn’t want what society believed I should want in the way they thought I should want it, and I didn’t want to have to argue about it with Nate, because I did truly like him. And I didn’t want to have this conflict. But liking him didn’t mean I wanted to give up who I was just to make him happy.

Instead of talking it to death and arguing my side, it was easier just to go. Get it over with. I could cut the ties now before I liked him even more. Before the string didn’t just tug me back from the clouds, but let all the air out of me, too.

I rushed out into the lobby, assuming he’d let me go, but he followed. And really, that’s what I probably should have expected. He’d already proven he was the kind of guy that chased. Shoe or not, Nate Charming liked his fairytale kink.

And I’d just performed the most cliché move of all for a sexed-up Cinderella—I’d run from the freaking ball.

Trish Bisceglia is an almost 35 yr. old woman from Long Island who lives a delicious double life. By day she’s a proper secretary for one of the most powerful businessmen in New York, Hudson Pierce. Pierce Industries is one of the top firms in the city, & she takes her job very seriously. Her evenings are all about playing. She’s an independent woman who loves sex but doesn’t do commitment. She’s never seen herself settling down or being in a traditional relationship. She likes feeling free & being in control. Nobody owns her & she has no expectations. She wasn’t girlfriend material, and never wanted to feel tied down or shackled to anyone. Ten years ago she stumbled upon a club of sorts for the wealthy called The Open Door. She attended their Saturday night parties where all her kinky, filthy desires were fulfilled. These parties where she wore a mask and was referred to as T remained one of the most exciting parts of her life.

One evening at the club Trish shares a hot kiss with a sexy stranger with mesmerizing green eyes. His name is Nathan Sinclair. She is stunned when this beautiful man shows up for a meeting with her boss. She doesn’t think he’ll recognize her, but he does. Suddenly her two worlds are colliding & she’s all flustered. She prided herself on keeping her business life & private life separate. The secrecy always gave her the power to be in control of her own desire. Now she’s distracted at work and her rules are going up in flames. She doesn’t want to put her job at risk, but Nathan is all she can think about. They crash together every time they see each other & one taste and they’re both addicted to one another. Nathan made her feel unsettled & she was constantly desperate for him. She longed for him & missed him when they were apart. He was the first man who didn’t ask or expect anything of her. The first man to make her possibly want more.

 

I really enjoyed this novella that merged two of my favorite Laurelin Paige series. Trish is Hudson Pierce’s secretary from The Fixed series, & Nate’s the creative director & co-owner at the ad firm Reach, Inc. from the Dirty Duet series. This book was super sinful & I loved Nathan Sinclair! Just delicious!!!

He tasted good. Like all the other men in the room, he tasted like money and secrets. Like power and sex. But he tasted like something new too. Like fresh air and California. Like a salty breeze. Like the deep of the jungle. Like places I’d never been, but somehow recognized.

 

 

As soon as I started reading this one I thought it was going to end up being a huge disappointment for me. After having just finished a book that seemed to be 99% sex, I wasn’t ready for yet another one, but by the time I got to the end I could safely say that I really quite enjoyed this short and decadently kinky read. The hero and heroine are from two of Laurelin Paige’s most popular series–”FIXED” & ”DIRTY DUET”. They have one of the most unconventional romances but yet it worked fabulously in their story.

 

 

Trish Bisceglia is Hudson Pierce’s executive assistant. She’s a very strong and independent woman. After having grown up in a home with her eight sisters, she has come to value her solitary life and privacy above all other things. She has never wanted the life that most of her sisters ended up having. Being married to one man and having his children just doesn’t appeal to her. During the week she is all business and takes pride in her career, but every Saturday night she lets her freak flag fly and attends these exclusive sex parties that only the very wealthy and privileged attend. Many men have tried to tame her but no one had ever caught her attention until the night she meets the sexy stranger with striking green eyes. They shared one intense make-out session but nothing more. For the first time in her life, she found herself daydreaming about a man days after having seen him at the party but it seems fate intends to have them cross paths again when the handsome stranger shows up at her office as one of Hudson Pierce’s newest business associates.

Nate Sinclair is a wealthy and powerful businessman and he craves the ”kink” just as much as Trish does. He’s just as turned on by her as she is by him. They play a very sexy flirtatious game of cat and mouse which will result in some of the hottest and filthiest sex scenes I have read in a long time. I never should have doubted this author’s ability to write a really entertaining and over the top steamy story.

 

 

I ended up loving Trish and understood her need to hold on to her freedom and I also loved how Nate truly understood her. He was the only man who knew how to give Trish the ”happily ever after” that she never knew was possible. Their romance while quite unorthodox was absolutely perfect for them. I couldn’t see it ending any other way.
