REVIEW – “Betrayal” (Infidelity, #1) by Aleatha Romig

BK1 Betrayal E-Book Cover

SYNOPSIS:

One week. No future. No past. No more.
Alexandria Collins has one week to live carefree—no ghosts of her past or pressures of her future haunting her. Reinventing herself as “Charli,” she is knocked off her feet by a sexy, mysterious man who brings her pleasure like she never imagined. With her heart at stake, she forgets that decisions made in the dark of night reappear in the bright light of day.

“Some of my tastes are unique. They aren’t for everyone. I understand that.”

Lennox “Nox” Demetri is wealthy, confident, and decisive—he knows what he wants. From the first time he sees Charli at an exclusive resort, he knows he wants her. Although he is usually the one to make the rules, together they agree on one:

One week. No more.

When betrayal comes from those closest to Alexandria, she must decide how far she is willing to go to survive. Choices are not always easy, especially when they involve the heart, body, and soul. After all, Infidelity is a business, and some rules are meant to be broken.

“Is it really cheating if you’re doing it to yourself?”

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes a sexy, new dominant hero who knows what he wants, and a strong-willed heroine who has plans of her own. With classic Aleatha Romig twists, turns, deceptions, and devotions, this new epic dark romance will have readers swooning one minute and screaming the next. Have you been Aleatha’d?

BETRAYAL is a full-length novel and the first of five in the INFIDELITY series.

I’ve been saving a nice bottle of Brunello wine that I bought from my trip to Napa earlier this year, and when I received the ARC for Betrayal, I knew it was the perfect occasion to uncork and enjoy this very special spirit. Just like this delicious wine, an Aleatha Romig book is meant to be savored. Her style of writing is usually intricate and passionate, and in this new book she takes us on a thrilling ride that will surely leave us delirious and wanting more…

Alexandria Collins comes from a very affluent family. Her life has always been filled with privilege but freedom is not a luxury that she’s ever experienced. She always has to be proper and look the part in front of the members of the high society of Savannah.

She was able to escape her reality if only for a few years while she attended college. After getting a taste of a world without restraints, Alex has plans to move to New York and attend Columbia Law School. She’s going to cash her trust fund to pay for her law degree, her apartment and finally live life on her own terms. Or so she thought…

Her mother has summoned Alex into her childhood home, a place she never wanted to go back to, but she went thinking it was to finalize the arrangements to transfer the possession of her trust fund to her, earlier than she’d been expecting . Nothing has changed in the mansion where she grew up and felt trapped for most of her life. Her mother is still oblivious to everything around her, and her step-father is as cruel and controlling as ever.

Betrayal is told from Alex’s point of view, the chapters go from past to present and of course the scenes from her past were my favorite because those are about the time Alex met the sexy Alpha Male, Nox.

Right after graduation as a present to herself Alex decides to take a trip to a beach resort with her best friend. To make the vacation even more memorable she decides to act completely opposite from her usual behavior. She wants, for at least once in her life to be daring and adventurous and not the proper and always careful person she was raised to be.

On her first day, while laying by the pool she encounters an enigmatic man, Nox. He is a man that goes after what he wants so he wastes no time trying to claim her. The sexual chemistry is palpable between them and they are not willing to pass up on enjoying each other but not before establishing some rules. No last names, no past, no future. Only one week to enjoy each other and nothing more. Sounds easy enough. What can be better than to give into the pleasure a sexy stranger is offering?

The problem is nothing about their intimacy is easy, every kiss and every touch will be ingrained deep within them but goodbye is their only choice, after all…

After spending such a delectable week with Nox, Alex has to face the lies and the deception of her family. What they don’t know is that she’s not the same little girl they used to bully into making her do whatever they wanted and this time she’s not willing to give up her dreams and her life for anyone. She’s willing to try anything to continue on the path to her freedom.

Once again this author amazes me with her ability to play with my emotions, just when you think you know the direction where the plot is going, something brilliantly thought out changes the course of the story. Last time I read a series by her I swear I needed therapy to be able to get a handle of my feelings. But in all honesty I loved every minute and every word, and this time was no different, if anything it was better.

This book felt so luxurious and decadent and I never wanted it to end. Luckily, this is going to be a five book series that promises nothing short of a riveting ride. Betrayal is definitely a must read!!!
