HOLD MY BREATH
NA Contemporary Romance-Stand Alone
Scheduled to release: November 18, 2016
BLURB:

Fractions of seconds can do lots of damage. One decision can ruin lives. A blink can be tragic. And loving a Hollister…can hurt like hell.

I would know.

They say the average person can hold their breath under water for two full minutes when pushed to the extremes. Will Hollister has been holding his for years. The oldest of two elite swimming brothers, Will was always a dominant force in the water. But in life, he preferred to let his younger
brother Evan be the one to shine.

Evan got the girl, and Will…he got to bury all of the secrets. A brother’s burden, the weight of it all nearly left him to drown.

The daughter of two Olympians, my path was set the day my fingertips first touched water. My future was as crystal clear as the lane I dominated in the pool—swim hard, win big, love a Hollister.

My life with Evan burned bright. He gave me arms to come home to, and a smile that fooled the world into believing everything was perfect. But it was Will who pushed me. Will…who really knew me.

And when all of the pieces fell, it was Will who started to pick them up.

In the end, the only thing that matters are those few precious seconds—and what we decide to do while we still have them in our grasp.

EXCERPT
“I need you to stay, Will,” she says. “No matter what…if you lose, if I
lose. If this gets hard, whatever this is. I need you to stay until we
figure it out. And even then, I just think…”
She lifts her head, and I cup her face in my hands, her eyes locking on mine.
“I think I just need you to stay,” she says.
I stare at her for several seconds, holding my breath, my mind racing with
all of my demons, with everyone else’s demons, too. I fear none of it is
possible. I’m going to break her heart. Those demons—they’ll destroy her.
But I can’t give her up. I need her to stay, too. Even though I can’t
promise it; even though I shouldn’t, I say exactly what she needs to hear.
I let myself believe it for the breath it takes to speak.
“Okay,” I say, bringing her lips to mine, kissing her softly then closing
my eyes as her forehead rests against mine. “Okay,” I whisper again.
I may have to break this promise, but for right now…for right now, I mean it.

*****Patty’s Review*****

*****FOUR STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

All of me is under his spell. I need Will Hollister, and whatever hurt I felt is nothing compared to the things his touch can do to me. I am numb. I am his.

10a91-hmbteaser1

I would have to categorize HOLD MY BREATH as a forbidden romance & friends to lovers story. Although after certain secrets are revealed, the “forbidden romance” aspect all but evaporates. I’ve read a few of Ginger Scott’s books and I can see a reoccurring theme in them. One of her main characters always experiences some sort of adversity and love is what ultimately heals them. The hero is beautiful and extremely broken. You can’t help but fall for this character. I found the heroine to be misguided with regards to her resentment towards the hero in the beginning of the story but once she opens her eyes to the truth I feel that she fully redeems herself.

Will Hollister has returned home after having fallen from grace for a while. He did survive something truly horrifying. He was on his family’s private airplane with his parents and younger brother when it crashed. Will was the only survivor. The extreme guilt and depression that seemed to consume him, had him turning to alcohol and even drugs for a means to escape. Unfortunately, since he was once an Olympic swimmer he is considered a celebrity and so his angst made for some scandalous tabloid fodder. But almost a year later, he has cleaned up his act and he’s come back home in hopes of trying out for the Olympics-bound U.S. swim team. There’s also the added bonus that the girl he’s always been in love with will also be training at the same camp that he will be at. Maddy Woodsen has been Will’s secret crush for years. When he finally had the courage to confess his feelings to her, his brother, Evan, beat him to it. Maddy and Evan ended up becoming a couple and Will was left with a broken heart.

d601c-hmbteaser2

Maddy has been mourning the death of her ex-boyfriend for over a year. The thought of Will coming back to her father’s training camp has her feeling mixed emotions. The irrational side of her blames him for surviving. She along with many others, view Will as the “bad” Hollister brother. But in reality that couldn’t be any farther from the truth. When she finally sees Will for the beautiful person he is, old feelings that she too, kept buried, come up to the surface, and maybe Maddy realizes that she picked the wrong Hollister brother back when they were all teenagers.

Their relationship develops rather quickly but Will fears that he will lose Maddy when she ultimately finds out about the secret he has been keeping from her. Will is practically a martyr. I often felt like this character had already gone through one of the biggest tragedies of his life, and to add to his suffering was just cruel and unusual punishment. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse for him, the author goes and adds a nice little cherry on top. That was one of the reasons why this became a four-star read. There was just too much suffering to be had for the Hero and I thought it was overkill to have such a lovable character go through more than his share of adversity. Although the author explains why she tortured our hero so much at the end of the book, I still wished that she could have cut that last gut-wrenching bit of the story out.

hmbteaser3

Can Will and Maddy’s relationship survive once his secret is revealed? When tragedy strikes again, can Will remain strong and not let the demons from the past send him on another downward spiral?

EXCERPT:
The song breaks for a guitar solo, and I count the seconds, knowing that she’s going to slip away the moment everyone in here begins to clap. I won’t ask her to dance again. I won’t torture myself or push my luck. But I’ll remember this. As bad of an idea as it is, I’m glad I did it. So many painful memories woven into this place, I needed this one good one. It might just be the best memory I have out of everything in my life. I feel her shift in my arms, and when I pull away slightly, Maddy’s chin pushes into the center of my chest, her eyes blinking slowly while she looks up at me. Two shots and a beer are about to talk to me right now. I smile softly and nod.

“That was a much better dance,” she says.
I chuckle, tilting my head back to laugh before bringing it forward slowly, resting my brow against hers. My eyes look down at the curve of her lips, lower at the line of her jaw, and even lower at the swell of her breast under the soft black cotton of her dress. A heavy breath escapes
me.
“I make you nervous?” she asks.
I don’t answer right away, instead closing my eyes and swallowing again. I don’t even care if she can feel it. I drag my hands up her body to her neck until I’m cradling her head in my palms, my fingertips flirting with her hair along her neck and my thumbs caressing her jawline.
“That’s what you said…before. You said you didn’t dance well because I make you nervous,” she says, her words coming out slow and sleepy.
My mouth smiles against the top of her head, and I give in, opening it enough to press a kiss against her, hoping only the strangers are our witness.
“Yes, Maddy. That’s right,” I say. “You make me incredibly nervous.”

Casey Coffield
has a growing list of personal flaws he keeps locked away in his head:

He’s never on time.
His list of IOUs to his best friend is
endless.

Money is always short.
Goals are never in reach.
Oh, and he’s decided to add college drop-out
to that list, too. He doesn’t really think that last one’s such a bad thing,
but his family insists it is, so it stays on the list.
On paper, he’s a zero. But in person, when
he’s mixing tracks for a sea of bodies at the hottest clubs and parties, he’s
downright irresistible. Just-right stubble on his chin, body of a boxer and a
smirk that stimulates all the right nerves—women have never been a problem.
They flock to his swagger and fall for his charm…fast.
All except for this one.

Purple hair, gray eyes, a raspy voice and
sass, Murphy Sullivan is a little bit country and a little bit rock-n-roll. And
her and Casey? They have history. He can’t remember it, but she wrote a song
about him—and it’s not exactly a love song. But it is good. Damn good. And
uncovering her inspiration just might be the key to solving a few of his
shortcomings—not to mention open doors to his own big break in the music
industry.
But sometimes dreams get messy when they
collide. Sometimes life changes patterns. A past paints the wrong picture and
futures get cloudy. The only question that remains is who will you choose when
the dust settles—you? Or the girl of your dreams?
EXCERPT

I pass through the kitchen and front room to the main door, knowing nobody will follow. I close the heavy door behind us and walk with Murphy to my car parked in front of the neighbor’s house, and then I unlock her door and pull it open. She steps in front of me to get inside, her eyes meeting mine by chance, the gray like lightning, like a sign that for once, I did something right, and my heart surges.

My hands act fast, catching her face in my palms as her body turns and I step in so I’m flush against her. My hands slide quickly into her hair, her lip quivers as I stare at it, and my gaze flits to her eyes and back to her waiting mouth. The soft pink like fruit. I hunger to taste it, and my tongue passes over my lips as my eyes roam over her delicate features, so fragile in my hands. My eyelids grow heavy, and my chest seizes—breathing becoming harder by the millisecond, and finally I close my eyes and rest my forehead on hers, our lips almost touching, but not quite.

Not like this.

In Your Dreams, in Five Words

Dreams. I suppose that one’s kind of obvious, but it’s the root of the entire story. Chasing dreams. Figuring them out. Fearing them. Wanting them. Wishing. Holding onto them. Changing them. Bending them. Letting them go. That word defined every corner of this book.

Duty. One of the most important threads to In Your Dreams is the sense of duty that is the creed Casey’s father lives by. It stands in the way of dreams, and Casey can’t understand how you could possibly choose duty first…over your passion.

Courage. This one is 100 percent Murphy’s word. She is courage. Even when she’s not being brave. Not every courageous act is grand, and some of them come in baby steps—inching your way to the goal. Murphy’s courage is quiet…until it’s not.

Family. The Sullivans and the Coffields are incredibly different families. This story also throws in a third element—Houston’s family (from book 3 in the Falling series). You get the warmth that Casey craves at Houston’s home, and you see how drawn he is to it in Murphy’s. But his own family is defined by different qualities. Providing for one another is at the center of every decision, but it comes at a cost—Casey’s youth was full of coldness and loneliness. This story really opens up those dynamics and explores the different colors of love—even its ugly side.

Selflessness. I’m not going to say much about this word, but just know that it takes us all a while to get to it. Even Casey Coffield.

In Your Dreams, the Story Behind the Story

  1. There is a Biore strip scene that I adore in this book. It was inspired by a very successful Tuesday night Biore strip moment of my own.
  2. Casey’s character came to be because of Calvin Harris and Ryan Lewis—geniuses. Just not your typical rock stars.
  3. The Falling series is set in Oklahoma—Stillwater all the way to Norman—because A: my daddy is from Oklahoma; and B: I went there with the Fiesta Bowl committee once, and fell in love with some of the kindest people in the world. I made up town names for In Your Dreams because I didn’t want to ruffle any feathers for OSU and UofO alums—I understand how deep rivalries work. I’m a Sun Devil.
  4. Sometimes I’m really moved by music when I write, and other times, I need complete silence. This book was a mix; when Murphy needed to sing, I busted out my eclectic Spotify playlist. I mention Ratatat in the book—if you don’t know them, you’ll find them on the playlist, too. Find it and all of my playlists here: https://open.spotify.com/user/thegingerscott – be warned, I’m an audiophile nerd and my tastes run the gamut.
  5. There’s a tiny hidden Easter Egg shout-out to the great John Hughes in this book. If you find it, let me know;-)
  6. I love the name Murphy and have been dying to use it in a book. It’s never been the right girl for the job until now.
  7. If you remind me on twitter or through an IG message, I’ll post a picture of the place near my house that inspired Casey’s dream studio building. It’s been turned into a distillery in real life, and it’s hella cool.

She breathes in slowly, rolling on her back and stretching her arms over her head. The black T-shirt she’s wearing rides up enough that I see her sides and bare stomach above her low-slung jeans, and I think to myself how far I’ve come. Any other girl, some other place and time, and I would be switching gears right now, capitalizing, because I always get the girl. I just don’t always keep the girl. They learn things, grow tired of me, or, more often, I am bored and done before anything has a chance. It’s never been the right girl, really. But Murphy…she’s a keep kind of girl. And this whole thing started because she hates me, so patience is necessary. But I have had my hand on that stomach. I’ve felt how warm her skin is through layers of fabric. I bet her skin is searing bare.

Patience isn’t a virtue. Patience is a murderer of six-foot-one fools desperate to kiss girls who sing like angels and look like my dreams.

TEASER – IN YOUR DREAMS by Ginger Scott

InYourDreams_Cover_Web

BLURB:

Casey Coffield has a growing list of personal flaws he keeps locked away in his head:
He’s never on time.
His list of IOUs to his best friend is endless.
Money is always short.
Goals are never in reach.

Oh, and he’s decided to add college drop-out to that list, too. He doesn’t really think that last one’s such a bad thing, but his family insists it is, so it stays on the list.

On paper, he’s a zero. But in person, when he’s mixing tracks for a sea of bodies at the hottest clubs and parties, he’s downright irresistible. Just-right stubble on his chin, body of a boxer and a smirk that stimulates all the right nerves—women have never been a problem. They flock to his swagger and fall for his charm…fast.

All except for this one.

Purple hair, gray eyes, a raspy voice and sass, Murphy Sullivan is a little bit country and a little bit rock-n-roll. And her and Casey? They have history. He can’t remember it, but she wrote a song about him—and it’s not exactly a love song. But it is good. Damn good. And uncovering her inspiration just might be the key to solving a few of his shortcomings—not to mention open doors to his own big break in the music industry.

But sometimes dreams get messy when they collide. Sometimes life changes patterns. A past paints the wrong picture and futures get cloudy. The only question that remains is who will you choose when the dust settles—you? Or the girl of your dreams?

** This book is a Falling Series spin-off. It can be read as a standalone. **

EXCERPT:
“Want to hear a cut?”

She folds her hands around her body and nods, her eyes bright. I pull out the Ratatat song she was listening to with her brother and let it start rolling, setting the intro to loop. Then I break up the beat with some new layers, so the song is recognizable, but unique.

“That’s so unbelievably cool,” she says, her body moving to the rhythm.

I’m about to blow her mind. I’ve had this planned since late last night, and the effect is better than I could have dreamed. I want to see her dance. I wait just long enough, smiling at her and moving my head along with the vibe until I feel it in my gut. There’s always a moment—it’s what makes me good. I’ve had it since the first time I touched a soundboard. I can sense when the craving is at it’s peak, when the room wants more. It’s like a slow-building orgasm, and I bring everyone to the brink, feeling their bodies fall in line with the count, giving their minds over to the melody. This is the high I was talking about, and Murphy—she’s there. Her eyes are closed and her body is moving more than I think she realizes, and it’s the hottest thing I’ve ever seen.

I’m about to be her undoing without even laying a hand on her.

My finger poised over the button, I wait until it’s just right to let the first drop go. I picked Nina Simone because she’s jazzy, just like Murphy, and she’s full of fire and there’s a swagger in her song—the moment her voice breaks through the beat, Murphy knows. Her eyes drag open and her body keeps swaying. Baby grays are looking at me and smiling. Her chest is rising and falling off rhythm even though her body keeps tempo. It’s because I’m in her head now—my song is in her head, and she’s feeling something different, something more.

The break I built is coming up, and I know it—she’ll shiver. I step close, letting my headphones slip around my neck. I come closer and watch her for a sign that I shouldn’t move more. She doesn’t stray—she’s drunk in seconds, and she wants me near. The break happens, and her heat tilts back as she closes her eyes, and that goddamned perfect neck is exposed and my lips come close enough to touch it. I don’t, but I linger, letting her feel my breath on her skin, small bumps rising in reaction. Chemistry and biology—beautiful. My nose grazes just below her ear as my hands carefully slide on her body, careful to touch in just the right place above her waist. She doesn’t flinch because she’s given over to the feeling—the performance of it all. That’s all this ever is. I fill rooms with pheromones and bodies become mine.

Right now, Murphy is completely in my control. My hands urge her to turn, and her body spins slowly, every curve brushing against me until her back is flush with my chest. I drag one hand around her waist and up her spine, my palm flat as it follows the line of her zipper, my thumb feeling the jagged metal and my mind imagining dragging it the opposite way. I close my own eyes as my hand pushes against her neck and my fingers find her hair, sweeping it up in my hold so my mouth can play against her ear. I bring my hand down carefully, both of us moving together to the sexy beat I built just for her, and I hold my breath as my hand opens wide and splays under her breasts, holding her tight against me.

My thumb close to god, I feel her lungs grow inside her, her breathing deep and desperate. I could take her now, but that…that would be a mistake. I only wanted to get this close—to feel this much. I wanted to see if my powers worked on her as well. They do, but hers have the equal effect on me. My mouth watering and my cock growing hard, my eyelids grow heavy as my self-made rules fight against my desire.

Leaning into her, my lips press against the inside of her neck, marking her with a cool kiss as my tongue takes one, tiny taste of her skin before my mouth finds her ear.

“This is what I do, Murphy. I…can make people…do…whatever…I…want,” I whisper, and her breath falls away completely, her head dropping back against me, her hands moving to my wrists and holding me with a tight desperation that begs for more.

My eyes close, and I indulge for a few seconds, dragging my hand up her body again, careful to not touch her too intimately despite how badly my hand wants to go there. I trace her bare shoulder and move to her neck, my thumb running over the zipper that it now considers the enemy. I push her slowly in front of me, giving us just enough space for me to let my head fall against the back of hers so my eyes can rake over the perfect line of her neck one last time. My mouth moves forward, wanting to taste more, but I puff out a breath instead and let go of her completely, knowing a second longer is the difference between being able to stop.

I kill the sound. An abrupt edge. And Murphy takes a step forward, as if I’ve just released her from a trance. I have. But I can put her back under it any time I want. And I intend to.
