For a Good Time Call by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward

Ever see For a good time call scribbled on the bathroom wall of a bar?  Sure you have.  Ever wonder what would happen if you had a few too many drinks and actually called the number? Well now you don’t have to wonder anymore, because I’ll tell you… It blows up in your face when you suddenly realize who Mr. Good Time is.

Eternal Sunshine by L.J. Shen

Adam Mackay is my brother’s best friend, turned Hollywood heartthrob, who is now my brand new, infuriating boss.

Sounds complicated? You have no idea…

Stay Right Here with Me by Willow Winters

I can’t tell you how many mistakes I’ve made sitting in this very spot in this small town bar. Watching the iron doors swing closed as the broad-shouldered man who just walked in sits across from me, I already know he’s on that list of, “I shouldn’t have done that…”

Damsel Dude in Distress by Helena Hunting

I thought I was helping a damsel in distress. Turns out my damsel was actually a hot dude with some bad luck. It started with a broken down car and ended with a gross motel, an indoor campout and a set of Kama Sutra sheets.

The Beach R.S. Grey

I’m not supposed to be on vacation with my best friend’s older brother. I’ve wanted him for so long, and now we’re unexpectedly alone in a tropical paradise. Naturally, I packed a lot of bikinis, but I should have brought armor if I want to have any hope of surviving my week away with Noah Martin…or should I say, Dr. Martin.

Lucky Shot by Sarina Bowen

Rookie sports agent Bess Beringer gets a real education on the night of her first glitzy New York business dinner. But the things she learns have nothing to do with roster rules or contract negotiation. Luckily, rookie hockey player Mark “Tank” Tankiewicz is a pro-level teacher…

REVIEW – MAN CUFFED (Man Hands, #4) by Sarina Bowen & Tanya Eby

SYNOPSIS

A new comedy from the USA Today bestselling duo!

Mac
A good cop can always spot trouble. That’s why my senses started pinging the moment I met the hottie next door. The neighborhood may never be the same. First she confuses me for a male stripper and tries to remove my uniform. (The guys on the force will never let me live that down.) And then there’s the breaking and entering.
I don’t know what to do with her. My libido has a few ideas of its own, though. Bad, bad ideas.

Meg
Hey, it’s not my fault that Hot Cop’s nightstick gets excited every time we see each other. And I can’t help that someone broke into his apartment.
Fine—that last thing was totally my fault. And I intend to make amends. So when he needs a date for his sister’s wedding, I’m there. This is right up my alley. I’m an actor. By the time it’s over, his entire family will believe we’re a couple.
Even him.

Warning: may cause unrestrained giggling in public. Contains: a bridezilla with a turkey leg, a flash mob, and a growly hero.

”MAN CUFFED” is just about the funniest book I’ve read in a while. I lost count over how many times I found myself laughing out loud while reading the hijinks carried out mainly by the adorably charming heroine, Meg. Meg is an aspiring actress who has just moved into a tiny one-bedroom apartment and has a very sexy neighbor who she has a knack for winding up in embarrassing circumstances with over and over again. From the moment they meet, there is an undeniable spark of chemistry between them. I wasn’t happy that Meg hears Mac getting it on numerous times with another woman due to having thin walls in their apartment, but luckily that relationship fizzles out early on in the book.

I enjoyed the snarky banter between Mac and Meg. Their journey to true love was filled with endless laughs and scorching hot steam. I especially loved how the book ends a little differently than I was expecting but in no way was it disappointing. It was the perfect ending for these lovable characters.

Give me a good sports romance with a mighty fine hockey player and I am in reading heaven. This was my introduction to the ”Brooklyn” series and after having read this one, I know I will be making time to get to the books I’ve missed. ”SUPERFAN” was entertaining and incredibly steamy. A second chance romance between a pop star and a professional hockey player is a surefire recipe for a top of the charts selling hit! I loved that Silas and Delilah met before their careers took off and that the years apart had done nothing to extinguish the intense attraction they had between them. There’s also plenty of drama thrown in to keep the plot interesting. Overall, I really enjoyed this one and can’t wait to see what else the author has in store for us in the next installment.

Here are my overall ratings:

Heroine: 4

EXCERPT

“Would you like a beer?” the cute bartender asks me.

I glance at the pile of mint leaves on his cutting board and hesitate. “Sure,” I say. But the mint looks so fresh and pretty.

“I could make you something different.”

“Beer is great. A cold…”

“—lager,” he finishes. “No glass, no opener.”

When I look up to flash him a smile, my heart does a little somersault. Those kind eyes are smiling at me, too. “Thank you,” I whisper.

“It’s really no problem.” He turns toward the beer cooler. “You’re an easy customer, trust me.”

But I really meant—thank you for remembering. As he leans down to grab a bottle for me, I find myself admiring the strong muscles in his back. Stop it, I admonish myself. It only gets worse when he turns around and places the bottle in front of me. I’ve never seen hands like his. I didn’t even know wrists could look muscular.

Even so. Ogling him is not why I came here. I pull out my keychain opener and remove the cap from my beer.

He discards it, gives me another pleasant smile and then picks up his paring knife again.

I take a sip, wondering when he’s going to mention my show at the Coconut Club. He was there. I saw him.

He separates some mint leaves from their stems and says nothing.

I last about seventeen seconds. “Well?”

“Well?” He looks up. “Sorry?”

“Jesus lord.” I close my eyes and then open them again. This is not going how I’d hoped it would. “What did you think?

“Of…?” His amazing eyes are studying me.

“Forget I asked.” I take a swig of beer.

“Think about what?” He pushes the cutting board aside, and his smile turns knowing.

“My set at the Coconut Club! I saw you holding up that wall in the back. Don’t lie.”

He tips his head back and lets out a sudden laugh. “I’m so busted. I loved your show, but I didn’t expect you to spot me.”

“You loved it so much you weren’t going to say anything?” The sentence sounds crazy to my own ears. I put down the beer. “You know what? Never mind. I’m just being psycho right now. This town is getting into my head.”

“Listen, girly.” He braces both (muscular!) hands on the bar and looks me right in the eye. “I loved it so much that I don’t even know what to say about it. From that moment at the beginning—when you shut that asshole’s maw? To the part where you made a lady cry.” He shakes his head. “I couldn’t look away. And I never wanted it to end.”

I give him a slow blink, just trying to take that in. It’s so much more than I was even hoping to hear.

“Shit, Delilah. If that set doesn’t win you whatever contract you’re looking for, they don’t even deserve you.”

Something warm and unfamiliar settles into the center of my belly. “That might be the nicest thing anyone ever said to me. Which only means you’re still trying to get my phone number.”

He laughs immediately. “Can’t both things be true? Both my musical assessment and my interest in your evening plans?”

“Because you know so much about music.” I flip my hair and take another sip of beer.

“Look. I don’t know shit about music. But I know plenty about talent.” He leans down on a set of forearms I shouldn’t be noticing. “I know that talent sometimes takes a nap at just the wrong moment, but it never stays asleep for long. I also know that luck matters, too. If they don’t give you what you want, it won’t be your fucking fault.”

“Thank you,” I say quietly.

But he’s not done. “I saw something else valuable the other night. You’re good in the clinch. And that counts for double, I swear to God.”

“The clinch?”

“Yeah. You’re not just good at practice.” He pauses, wrinkling up his interesting nose. “What word would a musician use? Okay—you’re not a rehearsal musician. That stage was like your home. Either that or you fake it really well. That’s going to pay your rent someday, I promise.”

“Wow.” It’s like he looked right into my terrified little soul and found the very thing I needed to hear. Those beautiful eyes of his are practically burning me right now, so I have to look away. “Thank you. Really. I really needed that pep talk.”

I make the mistake of looking up at him again, and, for a split second, I see pure yearning. It’s like our souls vibrate at exactly the same frequency. And I have no idea what to do with that.

REVIEW – BOY TOY (Man Hands, #3) by Sarina Bowen & Tanya Eby

SYNOPSIS

A brand new romantic comedy from your favorite snort-laughing duo!

Liam

The moment Sadie Matthews walks through the daycare center door, I feel my world tilt in her direction. Again. I fell for her when I was fourteen, and I’m still not over her. Problem: she still thinks of me as a teen she used to babysit. But I’ve learned a few things about pleasing a woman in the last fifteen years. I can’t wait to show her how good it could be. I need to move quickly before I lose her again. This is more than a game to me, but I still plan to win.

Sadie

I’ve just survived the worst year of my life. As a single mom of twin toddlers, I don’t have time for a man. I barely have time to finish a thought. Who knew that Liam McAllister would grow up to be so devastating? He’s everything my husband was not: tall, built, and willing to have a tea party with my girls.

I can’t possibly get involved with him. He’s too young for me. Too handsome. But he’s so persuasive…

I kiss her once before heading back out to the deck. She tastes like crisp wine and a hint of spice. She tastes like everything I ever wanted.

BOY TOY, the third installment of the ”Man Hands” series was filled with numerous laugh out loud moments, steam, and even some heart-aching angst. The pace of the story flowed smoothly, so much that never once did I feel that I wasn’t completely entertained. I was fully engaged with the plot and loved most of the characters.

I love a romance between an older woman and a younger man. The age difference isn’t really that huge. Sadie is six years older than Liam. What makes them seem worlds apart is the fact that Sadie used to babysit Liam and his younger siblings when he was fourteen, and she’s also a single mother to precocious twin daughters. But we learn quickly that Liam is more than just a pretty face with a hot body. This guy is every woman’s dream come true. I honestly felt that he was the star of this story.

We are given both Sadie and Liam’s POVs through alternating chapters. Liam was such an amazing character and I was rooting for him to finally get the woman of his dreams the entire time, and I loved his relationship with little Kate and Amy. While Sadie was a frustrating character at times, I understood her hesitance to take a chance with her heart again.

LIVE – THE ACCIDENTALS by Sarina Bowen

THE ACCIDENTALS by SARINA BOWEN

SUMMARY

A YA novel from USA Today bestselling author Sarina Bowen.

Never ask a question unless you’re sure you want the truth.

I’ve been listening to my father sing for my whole life. I carry him in my pocket on my mp3 player. It’s just that we’ve never met face to face.

My mother would never tell me how I came to be, or why my rock star father and I have never met. I thought it was her only secret. I was wrong.

When she dies, he finally appears. Suddenly I have a first class ticket into my father’s exclusive world. A world I don’t want any part of – not at this cost.

Only three things keep me going: my a cappella singing group, a swoony blue-eyed boy named Jake, and the burning questions in my soul.
There’s a secret shame that comes from being an unwanted child. It drags me down, and puts distance between me and the boy I love.

My father is the only one alive who knows my history. I need the truth, even if it scares me.

EXCERPT

After the last course—chocolate mousse—the three of us go tripping back across the cold lawn in the dark, Aurora in the lead. I’m the tiniest bit tipsy and wearing heels. So naturally I stumble on a frozen clod of snow and nearly fall. But Jake catches my hand to steady me. “Thanks,” I breathe.

Curiously, his warm fingers remain curled around mine until we reached the door of Habernacker.

I try not to feel ridiculously excited about it.

He lets go when we all reach the third floor. When Aurora opens the door, he follows us inside until we all collapse on the S.L.O., with me in the center.

“Oh! I forgot to steal my plate,” I realize.

“Me too.” Aurora sighs.

Jake reaches into his jacket and pulls out a plate.

“Well done, Mr. Jake!” Aurora laughs. “The party in the annex starts in fifteen minutes.” She heaves herself off the squishy couch. “I have time to redo my makeup.”

I watch her walk over to the stereo, where my phone is already ensconced, and turn on our Christmas playlist. Then she grabs her makeup bag off her desk and leaves the room.

When the door clicks shut, neither Jake nor I speak for a moment. The low chords of a Straight No Chaser song play through our little speakers.

Suddenly, it’s awkward. We’ve been circling each other for a while now—since the night he was trying to be nice and I wrecked it.

“You’re probably sick of a cappella by now,” I say, just to find something to talk about.

But Jake turns slowly toward me and says something unexpected. “Rachel, I need to ask you a question.”

My stomach does a little flip flop, and I turn to face those blue eyes I love so much. “What?” I whisper.

“Well…” He clears his throat. There is a very long pause, during which I hold my breath. “Will you come skiing some time?”

I exhale. “I guess so?” Another beat of silence passes. “That was your big question?” I ask, feeling like I’ve missed something.

His color deepens. “Well, no. I just…” His brow furrows, as if he’s trying to explain some point of astronomy. I love his look of concentration. I’ve missed it.

Jake’s blue eyes lock on mine, and I see how our own orbits might finally collide. This time, I will not send the moment winging back into space. Instead, I lean an almost imperceptible degree in his direction.

And that’s all it takes.

Reaching up, Jake cups his hand to the side of my face. I’m still processing the sweet touch of his fingers when he leans in farther, his lips brushing the sensitive corner of my mouth. His eyes are tentative, seeking permission. My heart thuds with expectation.

And then—finally—Jake kisses me for real. We come together the way a well-timed drummer kicks into the chorus of a song—swiftly, and without hesitation.

We broke apart a moment later, eyeing each other while I try not to smile. “Can I do that again?” he asks, his voice rough. “That was my real question.”

“Well, since you asked so nicely…”

Jake makes a low noise of approval, then draws me closer. I reach up for the back of his neck, my fingers grazing that golden patch of skin I’ve always wanted to touch. He kisses me again, his arm finding the velvet waist of my dress and encircling me.

My heart flutters, but not from fear. Warm lips tease mine gently apart. And when his tongue tangles with mine, I lose myself.

He tastes like champagne. Everything is wild and sweet, until the moment Aurora’s voice rings out. “Ay, caramba!”

I feel an unwelcome rush of cool air between us as Jake retreats.

“I did say I was going into the bathroom, right? And not on a trip to Fiji?”

Neither of us says a word; we only look sheepishly at Aurora.

“Just to be clear, now I’m ducking into the bedroom for my coat, which only takes a second.” She steps into the bedroom, and I hear the rustling of fabric. Then she peers dramatically around the door frame. “Good listening! Now I’m going to the party. Will I see you both there? Don’t answer that. We’ll speak later.”

Jake laughs. “Sorry, Aurora.”

“I’ve seen worse.” She departs, the door closing behind her.

And now I’m self-conscious. Rising, I decide to fiddle with the music playlist. “Do you want to go to the party?”

“I’ll go. But I’m not great at parties. It’s all shouting over the music, drinking warm beer out of a plastic cup.”

“Then let’s not.” My fingers shake as I adjust the volume. I go back over to the sofa and sit down.

“So.” He clears his throat. “Where are you going for break?” As he asks, he takes one of my hands in his, massaging my palm with his thumb.

His light touch is so distracting that I almost forget to answer. “Kansas City,” I manage. “To meet my grandfather for the very first time.”

“Um, what?” He squeezes my hand.

So I tell Jake the embarrassing highlights of my weird story—that I hadn’t met Frederick until this past summer.

“Wow. I’m sorry,” he says.

“Don’t be.”

“I guess I’m not that offended now that you wouldn’t introduce me. If the normal waiting period is seventeen years.”

My laugh begins with an unladylike snort. Ah, well. “With me it’s just all soap opera, all the time. Believe it or not, a year ago I was really a boring person.”

“I don’t see how.” He regards me with darting eyes. “You look beautiful tonight.”

“It’s Aurora’s dress,” I whisper.

But Jake doesn’t seem to care. He slips his arms around my waist. Scooting closer, he slides his lips from my forehead, down my nose and onto my mouth. And we begin again.

*****Patty’s Review*****

*****FOUR STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

Under the lavender sky, I feel transported to someone else’ life. As if I’ve stumbled here in a dream.

I’m thinking I need to make it a point to read some more YA novels. I forgot how angsty and entertaining they can be. THE ACCIDENTALS is a story about a teenager whose world is rocked to its core when her mother dies of cancer and she comes face to face with her father for the first time in her life. This story is both heartbreaking and frustrating at the same time. I enjoyed this one so much but there were aspects of the story that I wish the author had spent more time exploring.

Rachel is about to turn eighteen. Her mother died about a month before her birthday. Her father is a famous musician and she’s known about him almost her entire life, but he’s never been a part of hers except for the monthly checks he would send her mother. Her mom hardly spoke about him and she obviously held some deep feelings of resentment towards him. So when he shows up to finally claim her as his after almost eighteen years of absence, Rachel is going through inner turmoil. She’s excited because deep down he has been her hero. She’s followed his career and is in love with his music. But she feels as if she is betraying her mom by spending time with him and having actual feelings for him as well.

Her father is able to get custody of her and takes her to California with him during her summer break before she goes off to boarding school on the East Coast. Here’s where I was feeling like the story needed more. The time they spend together went too fast for me and it seemed like they spent more time apart than actually together. I felt that if he really was remorseful for having missed out on practically her entire life, he should have made every effort to spend more time and get to know the child he left behind for his career. This was the part of the story that intrigued me the most. There were so many questions that needed answers. I wanted Rachel to get some closure. I hoped for her to get the love from the man she always dreamed would claim her as his.

There is a romance between Rachel and the boy she meets in prep school. It was definitely sweet and I loved Jake for Rachel. I had only hoped that aside from meeting this really amazing guy that she would also be able to work through all the baggage that the years of separation from her father had created. I can’t say that it doesn’t happen. It just all felt a bit rushed and I wasn’t happy with how Frederick’s story develops. I see how it was used to help Rachel find her voice, but it could have been done differently. I found myself getting angrier as I read on because of the things that happen later on in the story with her father. I wanted to love the guy but I found him lacking.

I have no doubt that Sarina Bowen and YA fans will enjoy this one! I have to admit, I found it hard to put down. I think it would have been a five star read for me if that father/daughter relationship had been developed further.

REVIEW- STAY (WAGs #2) by Ellen Kennedy & Sarina Bowen

SYNOPSIS

Can you fall in love with someone you’ve never even met?

Hailey Taylor Emery has a hunch that her favorite client at Fetch—an anonymous virtual assistant service—is actually hockey star Matt Eriksson.

Although it’s against the rules for her to check his file, she’s 95% sure she spends at least part of each day texting with her lifelong crush and catering to his every need. Still nursing a wounded heart thanks to her recent breakup, Hailey is perfectly content with some harmless online flirting… until she has to meet her client. Face to face. Cue: utter panic.

Matt Eriksson is no stranger to heartbreak. He’s still not over the destruction of his marriage, and it sucks to be the only guy on the team who knows the truth—that hockey and long-term relationships are a toxic mix. He barely sees his kids, and dealing with his ex makes him feel insane. The only person in his life who seems to understand is someone who won’t show her pretty face.

But it’s nothing that a pair of fourth row hockey seats can’t fix. Hailey can’t resist the offer. Matt can’t resist Hailey. Good thing he doesn’t have to. Fire up the kiss cam!

Warning: Contains rabid hockey fans, misunderstood dick pics, hockey players at the opera and exploding ovaries.

4.5 Stars!

Hailey Taylor Emery is a 29 yr. old woman who married her childhood best friend, & then recently divorced. They had known each other their whole lives and were well suited, but had no spark. Hailey and her ex started a business called Fetch, Inc. It’s Toronto’s premier virtual assistant company that’s open 24/7 & often caters to a wealthy customer base. They offer their clients the option to stay anonymous & have whatever they desire hassle free.

Hailey has been a bit too focused & obsessed with one of her clients. Sniper87 is her favorite client. They chat often since she does so much work for him. She’s developed quite the active fantasy life involving him, & thinks she may have figured out his identity. She’s pretty convinced her mystery customer is the hot forward for Toronto’s professional hockey team, Matt Eriksson. He’s her long-time celebrity crush. She’s dying to know if it’s Matt, but can’t cross that line professionally.

Matt Eriksson is a hockey star who got divorced last summer after his wife left him. His life now is focused around playing hockey & spending time with his four-year-old twin daughters. Since he divorced women were no longer a priority. He’s not interested in one night stands or anything serious, so he’s just not dating. The only person in his life that seems to understand him lately is a woman he’s never met. A woman from Fetch that he’s been chatting with for almost a year. While she’s catering to his every need he enjoys some harmless flirting. Recently his curiosity has taken over, & he’s dying to get a glimpse of her in person. He knows she’s a huge hockey fan, & he decides to offer her hockey seats to a game so he can finally see her.

-He makes my body light up in ways so foreign to me that it’s clear I’ve been doing something wrong my whole life.

-I want him all the time.

Matt & Hailey finally meet. They both are no stranger to heartbreak & find they have a lot in common. They begin spending time together and Hailey is a ball of nerves. She can’t look at the delicious body that’s starred in all her fantasies without wanting to touch him. Things soon heat up, & Hailey has never experienced the kind of all consuming passion Matt delivers. Feelings start to develop, but can they get over their past relationship hang ups long enough to have a future together?

I really enjoyed this book! Matt Eriksson was sizzling hot & super swoony!

Matt takes e so far out of my comfort zone that our first date caused me a week of shallow breathing and a loss of focus. I’ve never been so shaken by anyone.

I can’t get enough of the WAGs series! There’s just something about Hockey players that makes them so much sexier than any other type of athlete. Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowen have successfully created another series filled with lovable Heroines and the sexiest and rugged group of professional hockey players who are sure to steal a reader’s heart. I found it impossible to put this book down and stayed up way past my bedtime to finish it, but it was so worth the lack of sleep!

Hailey Taylor co-owns an online personal assistant service with her ex-husband. She and Jackson were childhood friends who eventually became romantically involved in high school and were married fairly young. Their relationship was always more of a friendship and lacking any passion. When Jackson asked for a divorce it broke Hailey’s heart but deep down she also felt relieved and their split was amicable. For over the past year, Hailey has been fantasizing about one of her clients, SNIPER87, who she has been communicating with via instant message. Her company protects the identity of their high profile clients and for that reason, she has never tried to look at his profile to find out who he is, but she has a gut feeling that she knows who he is. All clues point to him being one of Toronto’s sexiest Hockey players, Matt Eriksson. Hailey is a HUGE fan of Matt’s and so the highlight of her days are the instant messages she shares with him.

At thirty-years-old, Matt is one of the oldest players on the team. The days of having sex with a different puck bunny every night have long lost their appeal to him. Matt’s wife filed for a divorce over a year ago. Although their marriage was far from perfect and the love was practically non-existent, he was still shocked when his Ex declared that she wanted out of their relationship. They have four-year-old twin daughters, who are Matt’s world and not being able to live under the same roof with them has been a devastating blow. His ex was not thrilled with his career in hockey and blamed it for ruining their marriage. Since his divorce, Matt hasn’t been with a woman and he’s not sure he’ll ever be able to be in another committed relationship again.

Hailey and Matt have never met face-to-face, and Matt also fantasizes about Hailey. He saw a picture of a woman on her company’s website that he assumed was her and since then he’s harbored a little crush on her. Matt thinks of a way he can confirm if Hailey is the woman in the picture–he asks her to come to his place to walk his dog while he’s away for the weekend. Security camera footage in his condo gives him the proof that he needed. Once he sees the beautiful woman on his camera feeds, Matt decides they must meet in person.

Hailey is a complete mess whenever she is in the same room with Matt and he finds it super adorable. Eventually, he gets her to go out with him and while she jumps at the chance, Hailey also thinks Matt is way out of her league and that maybe the first guy she dates after her divorce shouldn’t be someone as sexy and amazing as Matt. Even as they start to spend an enormous amount of time together and Hailey becomes close with all of the WAGs, there’s still a little voice in her head that warns her not to get comfortable and that eventually, Matt will let her go.

While Matt is starting to have serious feelings for Hailey, he’s not sure if he can promise her a forever. His history with his ex has convinced Matt that he is not relationship material and that eventually, he’ll only end up disappointing Hailey.

Will Matt and Hailey be able to work through their baggage from the past?
