Naked Love Excerpt

“Psst …”

I nudge Jake. He groans.

“Psst!”

He rolls away from me.

“Jake! I need the truck keys,” I whisper-yell.

Another groan.

My eyes flit between his bared torso turned away from me and his partially unzipped duffel bag at his feet. Jake has nice feet. I’m not sure I’ve ever thought this about a guy before. But—I move my phone’s flashlight an inch closer—yes indeed, he has nice feet. Not a single nasty callous, and his toenails are perfect.

Not fair. What the heck, God? Why would you give a guy such perfect feet? Jackass Jake must use an expensive foot cream.

I roll my eyes at myself. What is this? The beginning of a foot fetish? Therapy of some sort might be in my future. After one last inspection of his flawless feet, and maybe a nanosecond glance back up his bare torso—because why the hell not?—I inspect the contents of his bag.

It has five outer pockets, but I come up empty. No truck keys. Unzipping the main part feels a little too snoopy. Biting the corner of my lip, I sweep the beam of my phone’s light across his still body. If I’m completely honest, his feet are attached to some other really nice body parts, but why start being honest now?

The light goes out. “Shit.” I frown at the dead screen. What happened to my final three percent?

Key.

I need the key. I need to charge my phone.

“Jakey Jakey, wakey wakey,” I whisper, knowing he’s nothing more than a dead log on top of a sleeping bag. A dead log with sexy feet and a drool-worthy trunk I could climb—

Gah!

I must NEVER think of the Devil as sexy. Did I learn nothing about temptation from Eve and the complete debacle in Eden? A questionably flawed story if you ask me. Still—religion permanently haunts one’s conscience, and I’m no exception.

Don’t snoop.

Wait until he wakes up.

It’s not like it’s an emergency.

It’s just my phone—my connection to the rest of the world, a way to see in the dark, keeper of time, contact list, social media notifications, my savior in an emergency … MY LIFE!

Muzzling my conscience, I dive into the main compartment of Jake’s duffle bag, the way a police officer would break open a door after a 9-1-1 call. It’s filled with clothes, but within ten seconds I have all aforementioned clothes strewn all around me.

No keys.

A jingle startles me, and my head whips back, but it’s just Swarley. “Don’t!” I warn in my sternest whisper as he abandons his spot in the corner and plops down on my sleeping bag. “Get. Off!”

He shakes his head once. I realize how crazy that sounds, but it’s true. Swarley is not your average dog, he’s a demon—much like Jake—out to destroy me. He can do things like nod and shake his head as well as rip my poor hand apart when he sees something worth chasing, much like Anthony ripped my heart apart when he discovered that chocolate does in fact taste amazing.

Fucker.

Before my herbivorous travel buddy wakes up, I start shoving his clothes back into his bag, taking a deep inhale. What’s that smell? It’s good. Really good.

Herbaceous? Woodsy? Maybe piney, but we’re not amidst that many pine trees here. Bringing one of Jake’s shirts to my nose, I take a whiff.

Oh … that’s nice. Son of a bitch! Sexy—uh—I mean, soft feet and amazing detergent.

Eat the shiny red apple, Eve …

I’m not going to eat his shirt, but I indulge in one more sniff before—

“Why are you smelling my underwear?”

“Shit!” I jump, tucking the shirt behind my back.

WRAPPED UP IN READING’s REVIEW OF A PLACE WITHOUT YOU

Excerpt:

“Let’s eat before we leave. I’m sure there’s quite the spread downstairs.”

“Rich people breakfast?” I ask.

She furrows a brow for a few seconds. “Yes. I suppose so.” Rolling away, she swings her legs around and stands up, stretching like a cat.

“Do you eat rich people breakfast every morning?” My curiosity has been piqued.

After a long yawn, she cocks her head to the side, lips slightly twisted. “Shredded Wheat with cut-up banana and almond milk. Is that a rich person’s breakfast?”

I sit up, doing a bit of my own stretching, loving the way her gaze roams along my bare chest, her lips parting ever so slightly. “No. I think that’s a solid middle-class breakfast.”

“Middle. That’s average. Average is good, right?”

“There’s nothing average about you, Henna.” I stand, following her into the bedroom.

“I’m going to shower quickly, and by quickly I mean I need an hour. Do you have an hour?”

“To shower with you?” I try to play it cool, like I’m serious.

I’m a little serious.

The color leaves her face. “Oh, um …” She twists her fingers together, drawing her shoulders inward.

“I’m kidding.”

A little kidding.

Henna’s posture relaxes as her cheeks pink up again. “We could.” Her gaze darts around the room before landing on mine for two seconds only to wander around the room again.

“My clothes are at my hotel. I’ll shower there. I need to get going.”

A slow sigh deflates her chest as she tries on a smile that misses the confident mark by a few centimeters. “Okay.”

“But thanks for the offer.” I wink.

More color paints her cheeks, and it looks stunning on her. “I kinda sorta thought we’d have sex last night, but we didn’t, and that’s fine, but now I don’t know what comes next.”

Does that make me the world’s biggest idiot for not taking what she was planning on offering? Or does that make me a gentleman? I’ve already fucked her a hundred different ways in my head, so I’m going to shy away from the gentleman label.

“How about you put my number in your phone and I’ll call you later today? That feels like a good next, don’t you think?”

Henna nods and turns, walking toward the bedroom door. Digging through her purse, she retrieves her phone. When she pulls it out, a string of three condoms comes out with it. “Oh jeez.” Quickly snatching them off the floor, she shoves them back into her purse.

I don’t respond because I’m not sure what the correct response should be.

“I was conceived at Coachella.” She hands me her phone with the contact screen open, ready for my information.

Taking her phone, I give her an expectant look, but she withholds all elaboration.

“And by conceived, you mean physical conception, not merely an idea kind of conception?” I hand her phone back and give her mine.

“In the shadows behind a stage. I know more details than most people should actually know about the moment they were conceived.” She lifts a shoulder in a small shrug. “But Juni is my best friend. She’s the absolute coolest mom ever, and the story of how she met my dad is my favorite story ever.”

I nod as she keeps her chin tipped toward the screen to my phone. “Why is that?” I take my phone back when she holds it out to me.

“Yin Yang. Opposites. Laws of the universe.” She wears a satisfied smile. “My parents were temporary. I was permanent.” Holding out her arms, she inspects her henna tattoos as if seeing them for the first time. “My mom had henna tattoos on her body when she met my dad. Henna grows in intensity over a few days before fading to nothing. It’s magical and beautiful and then it’s gone. My parents say that about their love for each other. It grew quickly into something deep and intense, but over time it faded. Their love—like most everything in life—was temporary.”

“We’re temporary.”

Her empty stare shifts to meet my gaze and she nods. “Don’t sweat it. Everything is temporary. But today…” she walks into my chest, and my arms wrap around her as she looks up at me “…we should be at our brightest, our most intense.”

*****FIVE+++++++++ STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

”Bodhi paints me with his emotions, plays me with his body, takes what’s his, and gives me everything in return.”

“I love this girl with more love that I thought I had left in my heart. Henna takes everything that’s good in my life and multiplies it.”

“Love is not a rational emotion. It jumps out of planes and dives off cliffs. It leaves a permanent mark on everything it touches. I can do the right thing or I can love you, but I can’t do both.”

Jewel E. Ann is one of the greats! Her stories always transport me to my happy place. The characters she creates leave an indelible mark on my heart. I never know exactly what I’m going to get from her stories, but one thing I do know is that she is going to take me down a wild journey filled with crazy love and painful angst. This is the woman that drove me to drink during one of her stories but let me tell you, I will NEVER forget how amazing that book was and it drove me to send her a personal message, just thanking her for writing it. She is just that extraordinary! If you’ve never read any of her books, you need to make it one of your New Year’s resolutions. Get ready to be swept away by Bodhi and Henna’s passionate all-consuming romance!!

I knew early on this book was going to be something extraordinary. Bodhi and Henna are both beautiful characters and their love for each other burns something fierce but they each have endured great tragedy and loss which places huge obstacles in their paths and turns their relationship into the ”forbidden”.

Bodhi and Henna meet at Coachella and spend an incredible weekend together. The chemistry between them ignites fast and furious. While they think at first that they’re only meant to be in each other’s lives for a brief moment in time, it becomes clear within a few hours that something epic is happening before their eyes and they’d give anything to not have to part ways, life is often unfair and even though they are two pieces of a puzzle that fit perfectly together their timing is all wrong.

They’ll eventually be reunited after their memorable weekend at Coachella and what should be a happy twist of fate, ends up being a painful and heartbreaking reminder as to why they can’t ever live their happily ever after.

Brace yourself for the ugly cry and to have your heart twisted due to some painful angst but all I can say is that this story is SOOOOOOO worth the torture because it is simply AMAZEBALLS!!

Here are my overall ratings:

Hero: 5+++++++

Heroine: 4.5

Plot: 5+++++++

Angst: 5

Steam: 5

Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 5+++++++

*****Dee’s Review*****

FIVE +++ Bodhi And Henna Stars*****

Two souls destined to meet in the desert, surrounded by music, covered in sweat, and with no other choice but to fall in love, forever and always.

Both Bodhi and Henna carry pain from their pasts. Different pains, and different coping mechanisms but together they will help each other heal.

From the moment Henna got into the Uber taxi that unbeknownst to her was sharing with the most beautiful man she had ever seen, she felt it in her soul that he was going to change her life forever. She and Bodhi shared a magical afternoon surrounded by people, all there for the music, but these two were in a world of their own.

Fries, ketchup, and a magnificent kiss made their time together utterly unforgettable, and no matter the time or the distance, their love was born unbreakable from the start.

Physical pain, addiction, death, distance, taboo, and time, are some of the things that will try to come between Bodhi and Henna. But their love is wild, organic, simply made to be, and no matter if they are together or alone, near or far, even with other people, no place exists without the other.

This book is a complete story. In true Jewel E. Ann fashion, she won’t leave one emotion untouched. You will feel it all. Every single character is so beautiful and completely relatable. Who hasn’t felt guilt, shame, been crazy in love, frustrated for what they wish it could be but isn’t? Reading this book is like reading a little piece of your own heart. You’ll know it, and you’ll feel it, once you emerge yourself in the pages of A Place Without You

Excerpt from Chapter One

His lips move. I stare at them for a few breaths before I realize he’s talking. My hand tugs out my earbud again.

“Sorry. Did you say something?”

“What are you listening to?” he asks in a voice as smooth as his Mediterranean eyes.

“That’s kind of a personal question. Like asking my underwear color.”

He grins. It’s all kinds of wicked. “Personal?” He shrugs. “I don’t know about that. Depends on the song … and the color.”

“Amy Shark, ‘Adore.’And red and silver polka dots.”

“Mmm …” He nods slowly. “Good choice.”

“The song?” I bite the corner of my lower lip to control my grin.

“The underwear.”

My heart wakes up as if to say, “Whoa, is something going on here I should know about?”

“Wanna see mine?”

My eyebrows lift a fraction. “Your underwear?”

He digs his phone out of his front pocket. “Do I look like a perv? My song.”

Damn. He’s good. My tummy joins in on the little dance happening inside of me.

Twisting his wrist, he shows me his phone screen.

“Apocalyptica, ‘Nothing Else Matters.’ Hmm … that’s unexpected.” I let my gaze fall into his, a dangerous place to be. “You going to Coachella?”

He nods several times, glancing over the seats to the road before us. “I’m working there.”

“Oh, cool. Doing what?”

He inspects my hair. I’d planned on changing clothes and doing something a bit more original with my crazy, dark auburn hair than a messy braid over one shoulder, but sushi dad took away my hotel room. Sexy stranger grins like either my question or my messy hair pleases him. “I’m an in-house tech—audio, lighting, video.”

Dear God, he’s the full package, especially when that grin of his grows as I continue to violate him with my eyes. Maybe it’s just the lollipop I had on my way to the hotel. Everything seems aesthetically pleasing when I’m a little high.

“So, I’ll know who to blame if the sound is a bit off while one of my favorite bands performs.”

“You’ll know who to thank when it isn’t.” He leans toward the middle of the backseat. I follow his lead because I’m curious if he smells as good as he looks. “But I get this feeling that in your state, everything will sound good.”

Ignoring his whispered accusation that I’m high, I sniff. “You smell like lemon.”

He sticks his tongue out, revealing a half-melted lemon drop.

I grin as we sit straight again. “Last year my mom brought back lemon drops from the Limoncello factory in Sorrento. They were amazing.”

Sucking more intensely on his sour goodness, he nods slowly. “I’m sure they were. Sadly, I don’t think my lemon drop was made in Italy.”

“That is incredibly sad.”

He chuckles. Is he laughing at me?

“Nice tats.” He nods to my arms.

Holding them out, I admire my art. “They’re henna, like me.”

“Like you?”

“Yes. My name is Henna. And these will be much more intense tomorrow.”

“Like you?” His teeth scrape along his bottom lip. It’s ridiculously sexy.

“Are you flirting with me?”

He chuckles. “We met less than five minutes ago. I have a little more tact than that.”

“Tact? Like asking the color of my underwear?”

He runs his hands over the legs of his jeans. Is he sweating? Am I making him sweat? That possibility gives me a whole other kind of high.

“I didn’t ask. You freely offered that information. Besides, I have rules about flirting.”

“Well, I despise rules, but you must share your rules anyway.”

“Never flirt with someone who is not sober.” He stares out his window like his rule is the end of our friendly conversation.

“Sober? Dude, this is as sober as I get.” Leaning forward, I shove down the waist of my shorts in back, exposing a long L-shaped scar.

He glances over, forehead wrinkled.

“If I sit too long or stand too long or do anything too long, life kinda sucks. But a little high can go a long way with making said life a lot less sucky.”

Sitting back, I exhale. Sexy stranger seems at a loss for words.

“Tell me, tech guy, do you have a name?”

The driver stops at the crowded entrance.

“Thank you,” we say while getting out of the car.

WRAPPED UP IN READING’s REVIEW OF EPOCH

Excerpt

He removes his helmet and his bandana while I slide off the Harley. I could watch him all day. The meticulous way he puts our helmets on the shelf and wipes the bugs off his bike mesmerizes me. Griffin takes care of everything he owns-the new shiny things as well as the old, weathered things like his house and garage.
“I think you’re an old soul, Griffin Calloway.”
He hangs the rag on the hook and shoots me his sexiest grocery-store-guy smile. “Why is that?”
“My parents used to tell people I was wise beyond my years because I knew stuff most kids my age didn’t know. That was just knowledge, random facts, not wisdom. But you … you have an appreciation for things and you take care of them like someone twice your age might do.”
“My parents always took care of things. They still do. It’s just how I was raised.” He shrugs.
“No. Hayley and Sophie are complete disasters. I’ve seen their rooms. Chloe is a little tidier but still not you. I don’t think you were conditioned to be this way, I think it’s nature more than nurture.”
“An old soul, huh? From another time?” He pulls me into his chest and nuzzles my neck while lifting me off my feet.
I hug him with my arms, legs, and entire being. It took twenty-one years, but I finally found where I fit in life, and it’s every inch of my body pressed to his.
“You make me feel safe,” I murmur but it sounds more like a moan warring between physical pleasure and emotional pain. It’s an unsettling feeling that I have such a strong need to feel safe. I don’t understand it.
“You are safe,” he says between kisses beneath my ear.
“You make me feel like I belong.” My breaths race to catch up to my pulse.
“You belong with me.” He walks us to the garage door, shuts off the light, and closes the door behind us.
He’s my mind’s favorite place to go. When I think of him-of us-I don’t feel crazy. And maybe I should feel crazy because we’re both young and inexperienced in life and love. But I don’t want to think about the numbers that make up our ages or the months we’ve been together.
We crash through the front door like the first big gust of wind at the front of a storm.
“You make me feel needed,” I whisper just before his mouth claims mine.
His house is bigger than my apartment, but only by one bedroom. We don’t make it to either bedroom. He deposits me on the sofa and shrugs off his shirt.
“I need you.” He unties his boots and kicks them off while unfastening his pants as I shimmy out of my clothes. “In fact, I am pretty fucking sure you’re all I truly need.”
Twenty-three-year-old guys don’t say that. His soul is not simply old, it’s ancient like that of a great poet … who may have said fuck a few times.
I tug at his partially unfastened jeans.
He grabs my hand. “Close your eyes.”
“Why?” My head cocks to the side.
“Because I know you don’t want to see the tattoo on my ass.”
“Shut. Up.” I bat his hand away and tug down his jeans with both hands. A few moments of silence settle between us as I stare at his form before me. “I still blush when I look at you.” My gaze trails up to meet his eyes.
Griffin steps out of his jeans and briefs and kneels on the sofa between my legs as I lie back. “I know what else makes you blush.” He slowly dips his head between my legs, and my fingers curl into the sofa cushion.

He takes his leisurely time making sure his lips touch every inch of my flesh. I writhe beneath him, committing this feeling to the deepest parts of my soul. If I take something with me when I die, this time it’s going to be how incredibly revered I feel by this man.

INCREDIBLE!!! Every time I finish one of Jewel E. Ann’s books, I am in awe of this extremely talented author. She writes the kind of stories that end up owning a piece of my heart. This duet was nothing short of magical. There wasn’t anything that I didn’t love about this story, except for that it eventually had to end. If you’re looking for your next “five-star” read, drop whatever you’re currently reading and pick up this duet!!

Swayze finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery that happened nearly twenty-two years ago and now seems to have links to the untimely demise of her neighbor. She’s still only getting pieces of Daisy’s memories and she’s convinced that the key to solving the mystery is to somehow find a way to unlock the memories from her past life. The problem is, her need to connect to her time as Daisy, is causing a huge rift between Swayze and Griffin. Griffin sees Swayze’s need to remember her past life as a threat to their relationship because it has a possibility of opening the door for Nate.

Griffin and Nate were amazing Heroes. There was no way I could stop from loving them both but one always had more of my heart. They each had me swooning and at times in tears. It’s hard to categorize this as a true love triangle because usually in that scenario someone is the “bad guy” but it wasn’t the case with this story. My heart ached for the three of them. What I got out of this story was that true love can really transcend space and time! I can’t leave out the incredible Heroine, Swayze. Her heart was so pure and her vulnerability made her that much more endearing! She thought she was undeserving of the love she received from these incredible men but I believe the same could be said of her love for them.

His shadowy figure ghosts toward me. I will never let this be more than an unspoken thought, but I love looking at Nate—the one in my head, the one in the picture, and the one before me. And it breaks. My. Heart. I love Griffin so completely. He’s everything. What’s left when you have everything? Nothing.

Mind Blown!!! I’ve said it over and over, but Jewel E. Ann is seriously one of the most talented authors out there! Her stories are so unique and I treasure them all. Every time I finish reading one of her books, I am compelled to reach out to her just to thank her for writing stories that soothe my soul. One thing you learn really quick is that she is one of the most versatile authors and never sticks to the same type of stories…this is what makes her so special! What can I say about TRANSCEND? It wasn’t anything I expected, and I was held captive by this book. It has an element that I have always been deeply intrigued by and I have to warn that there are the makings of an epic love triangle!! The two Heroes in this book are equally sexy and swoon-worthy in their own way. I am having the absolute hardest time choosing between them. Get ready to fall madly in love with this intoxicating story!

Swayze Samuels is a beautiful young woman who had an unconventional childhood. Her parents believed she was a child prodigy and sent her off to many different schools to help develop her “gift”. She felt like a normal kid and didn’t necessarily see herself as the child genius that her parents were convinced that she was. She just had a knack for knowing things that surpassed that of a child her age. At the age of twenty-one, she lives an ordinary life and has the most amazing and beautiful boyfriend who lives to worship her. After one of her sessions with her therapist, she runs into a man in the waiting room who she immediately recognizes as a long lost childhood friend. She starts reminiscing about the old days with him but the crazy thing is, he’s fifteen years older than she is and the childhood memories she brings up happened way before she was even born! WEIRD!! I had no idea what to think about this and neither did Nate–the supposed childhood best friend.

The next day, Swayze has an interview for a job as a nanny. She never is thoroughly shocked when she comes face to face with Nate, the man she met at her therapist’s office. He’s a little hesitant to hire her because of their weird encounter from the previous day but ultimately she does get the job. Nate’s wife died during childbirth and left him a widower with a beautiful baby girl named Morgan. Swayze bonds with Morgan instantly and she also can’t seem to stop herself from talking about a past with Nate that she couldn’t have possibly ever experienced. Soon Nate is starting to think that Swayze isn’t crazy because she reminds him of someone he loved and lost so long ago.

I can’t begin to tell you just how much I loved this story and how the written words of this author had me spellbound. I highlighted way too many passages in this book! I felt like my heart was put in such a terrible dilemma because while Nate is amazing in his own way, Griffin is equally sexy and wonderful. Swayze loves Griffin deeply and passionately but she also feels inexplicably drawn to Nate and even though she has these hidden feelings she stays true to her man. You can’t fault the woman for being attracted to her sexy and much older boss, and her determination to remain faithful was admirable.

There’s a little mystery that starts to develop towards the end of the book which ends with a crazy cliffhanger! I only hope that by the time we get to the conclusion that my heart remains intact!

Here are my overall ratings:
