REVIEW – BE MINE by Jen Frederick

SYNOPSIS

At twenty years old, Lainey Valdez has made enough mistakes for a lifetime. She’s gotten herself knocked up by a cruel, uncaring man, lost her home, and found herself outside of a ramshackle bar with a crying baby and a broken purse.

When Nick Jackson, the Mustangs’ new rookie quarterback, swoops in like her savior, all she wants to do is fall into his arms. There’s just one problem… she’s sworn off football players and men for good.

He’s charming, eager, and sexy as hell, but Nick’s not the man for her. No matter what her body says.

Besides, she’s got bigger problems to fix such as how she’s going to feed her child, where she’s going to lay her head, and how to stay hidden from her ex. There’s no room for flirtation, a hand on the small of her back, or even the way he makes her daughter smile.

Nick Jackson isn’t in her plan now or ever.

Right?

BE MINE is the second book in the Jackson Boys series. While I haven’t read ”The Charlotte Chronicles” yet, it wasn’t hard at all to follow the storyline since Charlotte and Nate are secondary characters in this story. Sports Romances are one of my top favorite romance genres but I love it when there’s also a heavy dose of comedy thrown in. That wasn’t the case with this one. The plot is at times, gritty and dark. I wasn’t really all that surprised as I have come to expect a bit of the gritty side when reading a Jen Frederick book. She delivered a nail-biting plot that had me on the edge of my seat.

Nick Jackson is a rookie NFL Quarterback for the Dallas Mustangs who falls instantly in love with Lainey Valdez and her precocious little daughter, Cassy. Lainey is a young single mother who made some bad choices in her youth and was seduced by another football quarterback who played upon her naivety and insecurities. Although she regrets the mistakes she’s made, she wouldn’t change a thing since it resulted in the birth of her daughter. Lainey is wary of men, especially football players. While she is attracted to Nick, she has no intention of getting romantically involved with him. Her main priority is providing a safe and nurturing home for her daughter. What she doesn’t realize is that Nick is one of the good guys.

There is undeniable chemistry between the two and I was instantly falling for Nick. He seemed almost too perfect, but that’s ok in the world of romance novels. We get a ton of angst and even some thrilling suspenseful moments as the story progresses.

Here are my overall ratings:

Hero: 4.5
Heroine: 4

Angst: 4

Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 4

BE MINE is currently available and Nick Jackson is a book boyfriend that romance readers will be swooning hard for!

REVIEW – WANT YOU by Jen Frederick

I crash to my knees beside the mattress. Apprehensive eyes meet mine. I don’t know what she sees, but the brakes are off this train and we are barreling down the track. The future is unknown, but at least we’ll be together.

When I saw the cover and read the blurb, I knew I couldn’t pass this one up. I was not expecting it to be such a dark and gritty story that would have me chomping at the bit to get to the very end! I had no idea that Jen Frederick could write a dark story so well! I’m used to her sports romances and YA collaborations with Elle Kennedy. Well, I officially have another author to add to my automatic read list! WANT YOUis a sexy and addicting dark romance that completely consumed me. I was rooting for Leka and Bitsy to give in to their desires for each other and while the premise of the story may seem a little far-fetched, I couldn’t help but fall in love with Leka and Bitsy’s romance.

Leka and Bitsy were children who were abandoned and left to fend for themselves on the mean streets of the inner city. At twelve-years-old, Leka runs odd jobs for the local pimps and drug dealers who work for the mafia. One night he comes across a tiny five-year-old girl who is huddled and trembling in a dark and dirty alleyway. Something about her tugs at his heart and he ends up taking her in and from that moment on he becomes the girl’s savior and entire world. And the little girl, he names “Bitsy” becomes the only person who matters in his life. Leka will do ANYTHING to provide a safe home and environment for Bitsy. He wants a better life for her that won’t ever be tainted by the job he has or the people he must associate with. He does the unthinkable that takes a little piece of his soul away from him each day, but in his heart, he knows it’s what’s best because it will provide Bitsy with a better life.

This will be hard for some people to accept. He acted like a guardian to her for most of her childhood but things change after Bitsy’s eighteenth birthday. You have to remember he was a child when he decided to care for her. They’re only seven years apart in age. Throughout the buildup of the plot you know they are falling for each other and I completely accepted it and even was on pins and needles waiting for it to finally happen!!

But Leka works for some really evil men who would like nothing more than to find out what his weakness is and use it to their advantage. These men don’t think twice about raping and killing innocent young girls. Leka does his very best to keep Bitsy away from these people but he’s no match for a petulant teenaged girl’s stubbornness. There were times I wanted to throw my iPad against the wall when Bitsy would end up doing something completely stupid that put both their lives in danger.

Will these two lovers be able to beat the insurmountable odds that are stacked up against them?

Just FABULOUS!!
I’ve been dying to get to this one and so happy I finally got to read it!

This house is an illusion. It’s polished and pretty, but the dream Callum is trying to sell is as flimsy as paper. Nothing stays shiny forever in this world.

When the buzz first started going around about this book months ago, I was extremely intrigued. I was told this was one hell of a book that was going to knock my socks off. IT DEFINITELY DID!! It was compared to the tv series Gossip Girl. I have seen that show and it really wasn’t my cuppa. In my opinion, this book beats the hell out of Gossip Girl. Except for some of the sad things that have happened to Ella, I would say, for the most part, this is a teenage girls’ fantasy come to life.

Ella is a sixteen-year-old who has been living on her own for the past couple of years after her mother died of cancer. She has been able to keep her lack of parental guardianship a secret from the authorities and to survive, she works as a stripper in a seedy night club. The girl keeps all of her savings and belongings in a backpack that she takes with her everywhere, just in case she ever needs to go on the run at a moment’s notice. Ella has never met her father and actually has no idea who he is. One day a man appears at her school and he claims to be her legal guardian. He knows all about her mother’s death and how she has been living and supporting herself. Callum Royal tells Ella that her father has recently died and that he was named her guardian in his will. Having lived in some of the worst environments, Ella isn’t quick to trust Callum and tries to run away. She’s quickly found by Callum and he brings her back to his home to live with him and his five sons. FIVE VERY ALPHA & SEXY AS HELL SONS!!! The Royals seem to have it all – wealth, looks, and power!! Now you see why I said this is like a girl’s dream come true????!!

To get Ella to agree to come back with him and stay at his place, Callum offers her $10,000 up front and promises an extra $10,000 for every month she stays. If she goes off to college, she gets $250,000, and once she graduates there is more $$$ to come!! Now who could say no to that offer??!! Certainly not Ella! But she’s definitely not a gold digger, which is what the five Royal boys all seem to think she is. They all give her a really frosty reception when she first arrives and make her life a bit hellish at the school they attend, Astor Park Prep Academy. Somehow Ella can’t help but fight this strong attraction she feels for Reed Royal, the second oldest son who has a very hot temper and seems to rule the school and the Royal clan. Reed has gotten under Ella’s skin. But she may have succeeded in affecting Reed as well.

There is a lot of drama going on with the Royal boys, Callum’s slutty girlfriend, Ella’s father’s widow, and some snobby classmates from Astor Park Prep. I loved every minute of it!! I can tell you that it was so good I read it in one day. Once you start it, you will find it hard to put down. The only problem is, we end on a big cliffy and book two isn’t out until July!! I mean that is not as bad as having to wait SIX MONTHS for The Walking Dead to come back on, BUT STILL!!!! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!!

What is it with authors deciding to co-write books lately??!! I’ve read several just recently and they ALL were FIVE STAR reads for me!! Elle Kennedy & Jen Frederick are no exception!! These two have created the most intoxicating story I have read yet!!! If you haven’t read this one, you definitely need to bump it up your TBR!! It is a book that is not to be missed!!

REVIEW – JOCKBLOCKED (Gridiron, #2) by Jen Frederick

SYNOPSIS:

She’s always played it safe…

College junior Lucy Washington abides by one rule—avoid risk at all costs. She’s cautious in every aspect of her life, from her health, to her mock trial team, to the boring guys she dates. When a brash, gorgeous jock walks into the campus coffeeshop and turns his flirt on, Lucy is stunned by the force of attraction. For the first time ever, she’s willing to step out of her comfort zone, but can she really trust the guy who’s determined to sweep her off her feet?

He’s always played around…

Entering his last year of college eligibility, linebacker Matthew “Matty” Iverson has the team captaincy in his sights. And it’s his for the taking, if he can convince his quarterback Ace Anderson to give up the starting position. Luckily, Matty already has an edge—the hottie he’s lusting over just happens to be Ace’s childhood best friend. Getting Lucy on his side and in his bed? Hell yeah. Matty is more than confident he can have both, but when he falls hard for Lucy, it’s time for a new game plan: convince the woman of his dreams that she’s not sleeping with the enemy.

Sensual man and woman having sex in bedroom

I love me a good romance with a sinfully sexy JOCK. It happens to be one of my favorite tropes. The hero always tends to be a major player and seriously cocky, but not in a way that makes him come off as a douche nozzle. The heroine usually takes a while to warm up to the hero and makes him work hard to win over her affections. There has to be a bit of comedic moments thrown in as well. This formula has been used time and time again, and yet still the majority of readers out there can’t get enough of these stories. I’m definitely no exception.

A young couple, the woman, dressed in a dark sweater and blue jeans, the man, wearing a dark sweater, hug and hold each other's hands, spending time outdoors in the village in autumn, visible parts of the body ,arms, legs and torso.

Lucy Watson is a college senior. She spends most of her time working with her classmates on a mock trial, and when she isn’t in class, she works at a local coffee house. She’s been best friends with the Quarterback of the football team since childhood, but she has never had a desire to date a football player. Lucy is risk adverse. She weighs the pros and cons of almost every situation in her life. She thinks jocks are all man whores and she’d only be getting her heart broken if she ever got involved with one. So she only dates guys she views as safe. The problem is, those relationships don’t last either because her heart truly isn’t in it.

IMG_5909

Matt Iverson is on the college football team. He’s very popular with the ladies and has never had the desire to pursue a woman. He gets what he wants and then he moves on. This all changes when he meets Lucy in the coffee house she works at. Matt is intrigued by Lucy, especially after he realizes she has no idea who he is, nor does she act like she wants in his pants like most of the girls on campus do. They end up running into each other a few times and even though Lucy has a strict “no football player” policy, she can’t deny that she’s extremely attracted to Matty.

Portrait of man and woman in love kissing passionately

The story starts off a bit too slow and to be honest, I don’t understand how these two went to the same college for almost four years, and never met each other till their last year. Especially since she was the quarterback’s best friend. I didn’t like the path the author took Lucy and Ace down. I think the author should have left the unrequited love aspect out of it.

Luckily, once things start to heat up between Matty and Luce, the story started to take a turn for the better. The steam factor is high, and I loved every panty melting moment! Matt made my heart flutter with how possessive he was over Luce, and how he was always trying to take care of her. He understood her fears of taking risks but he also made her realize that she’s not really living if she’s not willing to take a chance once in a while. I ended up liking these two a lot and was rooting for them to overcome the odds and find their HEA!! Overall it was an enjoyable read and the schmexy times are definitely worth picking this one up!!

A young couple, the woman, dressed in a dark sweater and blue jeans, the man, wearing a dark sweater, hug and hold each other's hands, spending time outdoors in the village in autumn, visible parts of the body ,arms, legs and torso.

EXCERPT:

I grab her foot and pull it into my lap. “Let’s do a risk/reward test.”

“Let’s not.” But her foot doesn’t move.

I massage her foot beneath the sock, pressing hard against the ball and then digging into the arch. She releases a tiny moan and her head falls back in a dick-hardening sexy motion. Fuuuuck. If this is how I feel from just touching this girl’s hand and foot, what would it be like to be between her legs, to suck on her tits, to feel her pussy pulse around my dick? Light-headed and incredibly aroused, I almost fall off the chair.

I gotta focus here. If I’m ever going to get past the foot and hand, I need to convince her that the reward with me would be off-the-charts amazing.

Clearing my throat, I keep rubbing her foot. “Having your foot in my lap, that’s a risk right? But you’re enjoying the rubdown. That’s a risk worth the reward.”

“Keep rubbing and stop talking,” she orders. Her eyes are closed.

Okay, but I’m not touching some other guy’s sock, particularly the guy whose bed she’s sleeping in. I don’t know if I fully buy into her “just friends” explanation for Ace. He has her picture in his locker. She’s wearing his socks. For all that, he’s at the Gas Station dry humping a Kappa and Lucy’s home alone. I pull off the sock and toss it aside and stare at her toes.

“Your nail polish is blue.” Since when did I think toes were sexy?

She wriggles them. “Yes, on both feet. You’re very observant. Haven’t you ever seen a girl’s toes before?”

“I’m sure I have.” I just don’t remember them. I have this strange feeling I’ll remember hers, though.

I run a light caress over the anklebone, down the spine of the Achilles tendon, and around the edge of her instep.

Her breathing hitches, so quiet and so soft, I might have imagined it.

“What’re you doing?” Her words are a husky whisper and my body responds accordingly.

My balls tighten and my dick’s so hard I’m worried it’ll snap in half, but I can’t reach into my jeans to readjust or I’ll scare her away.

“We’re testing your risk assessment.” And driving myself crazy.

“You should stop.”

“I can’t.” I move my hand up her ankle to cup the slender calf. “Feel good? Worth the risk?”

“I’m not sure.”

That’s an invitation if I ever heard one.

Is it possible to come from just rubbing a girl’s leg? I might test out that theory. “And now?” My fingers find the tender hollow behind her knee. Her pulse beats rapidly against my palm. She’s as turned on as I am and I haven’t even gotten to the good parts.

“It feels riskier,” she croaks.

Yeah, because pretty soon my hand is going to be on your thigh and I don’t know how I’m going to stop there.

Her fingers are turning white as she grips the sides of her chair. Is she holding herself back? Or keeping herself there?

Fuck, I want to kiss her so bad. I want to kiss her lips but I’d settle for her toes or her knee or‑shit, if all she’ll allow is for me to touch the tips of her fingers, I’d be okay with that. I need a taste of her. I’m dying for a taste of her.
