Excerpt:

I’d been seeking out Chris as much as I could lately, even though he was worried about my lack of sleep. My feelings for him had become like weeds, growing faster than I could contain them. I should’ve been protecting my heart instead of trying to hand it over so it could be crushed later.

So tonight, instead of pushing him to talk about whatever was making him hurt, I let him have what he wanted: an escape. I could be that.

I was exactly that every night I worked in the club. I was my customers’ escape from life, from the wives who ignored them, or from the girlfriends who didn’t exist. I smiled and batted my eyelashes and pretended their lewd comments were funny.

Tonight I could easily be whatever Chris needed, and if that was naked and a distraction from the things outside of his control, so be it. Or that’s what I told myself as I pushed his boxers over his hips.

My clothing took a little longer to remove since I was fully dressed. Chris wasn’t as slow as usual, or gentle. There was an urgency in him I’d never experienced before. What he wouldn’t give me in words, he gave me in actions. Desperation leaked through, making him frantic as he pulled my shirt over my head and fought with the clasp on my bra.

“Fuck,” he groaned. “I just wanna get my hands on all of you.”

I brushed him away, taking care of the bra for him. Sitting on the edge of the bed, I opened my legs and welcomed him between them. He locked shaking fingers around the waistband of my jeans and paused, his expression clouding.

“You sure you’re okay with this?”

“With you wanting me?” I popped the button.

He lifted his gaze. “I fucking need you.”

I shivered at his tone, wishing it indicated a different kind of need—a sustained one that was more than physical. But I pushed the feelings down, locked them inside my aching heart, and released my zipper. “Then you should have me.”

This was totally not what I am used to reading by the fabulous Helena Hunting. I have only read her PUCKED series and it is one of my all-time-favorite Sports Rom/Coms. Fractures in Ink was very gritty and dealt with characters who came from poverty and who have at one time or another battled with drug addiction and some people with dangerous criminal backgrounds. There weren’t any laugh out loud moments but what it does have is one pretty amazing Hero, who would do anything to protect his loved ones. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this book by the time I finished it, but I can now confirm that Ms. Hunting has some mad writing skills!! By the time all of the action starts to pick up…I was definitely hooked and couldn’t wait to see how it all would end for Chris and Sarah. Although this is the third book in the Clipped Wings series, I was able to follow along, which means it could be read as a standalone, but I definitely want to find some time to read the first two books as well.

Chris Zelter is one of the tattoo artists at Inked Armor. He’s made a name for himself and is a genuinely really good guy. That’s saying a lot because he wasn’t raised under the best of circumstances. His father left him at a pretty young age and his mother was seriously lacking in the maternal skills. When she gets involved with a new man and has another child with him, poor Chris ends up being physically and mentally abused by his stepfather while his mother withdraws completely from the situation. Eventually, Chris is thrown out of the house when he gets a little older and is able to beat the crap out of his abuser, and for a time he’s forbidden from having any contact with his little sister, Ivy. A few years later he inserts himself back into his sister’s and mother’s lives and tries to help out whenever he can since his deadbeat stepdad never seems to have any money to pay for food and bills.

The one bright spot in his life is his girlfriend, Sarah, although Chris seems to think that he’s not good enough for her and that their days are numbered. She’s enrolled in the Master’s program at Northwestern and has almost a full scholarship to pay for her education. Unfortunately, she too has had a less than stellar parental figure in her life. Her mother is basically a high priced call-girl/mistress. She was never a good role model for Sarah and actually suggests that she work part-time in a Strip club to help pay back some of her student loans. Sarah does end up taking a waitressing job at a local Strip Club and she’s been able to steer clear of the private parties and stripper pole, but her boss has been blackmailing her and unfortunately he helped her out of a jam which has left her indebted to him. Sarah fears for what her boss will want as payment and she foolishly keeps her troubles from Chris since she believes he would choose to break up with her if he found out about the mess she managed to get herself into.

The two lovers really could benefit from taking some lessons in communication. Both keep their insecurities about their relationship to themselves and also neither wants to divulge anything about their current worries because of their fears of abandonment. I found myself getting a little more than annoyed with them but then again, if they were to just open up to one another, the conflict would have ended quickly and the book would have been a novella instead. I get that we needed the unnecessary drama! But when the action starts to kick into high gear you couldn’t tear me away from the book!

For those of you who have fallen in love with these characters and this amazingly HOT & HILARIOUSseries, you are NOT going to be disappointed!! Helena Hunting delivers the usual panty melting steam and comical antics we’ve all come to know and love!! We get to spend just a little more time with all of our beloved characters in PUCKED UNDER.

Lily and Randy “Ballistic” have been living together for almost a year and their relationship is still as HOT as ever. They can’t seem to get enough of each other. Both have an incredibly insatiable appetite when it comes to sex, and they get even kinkier as time goes on. But their love and relationship only grow stronger as well. The two are joining the rest of the crew for a getaway up at Alex’s cabin in the mountains. The guys are scheduled to depart for pre-season training in a few weeks and the couples want to have some rest and relaxation before the men have to leave home. There is an overabundance of sex to be had on this trip but we get to mainly focus on the steam being generated between Lily and Randy, which is no hardship since they seem to be the horniest out of all the couples. Ladies keep at least a few panties on hand…you’re going to need them!!

Randy seems to be needier and a little jealous when it comes to Lily and she is quick in sensing the change in his behavior. His father has been trying to contact him and Randy’s done everything he can to avoid taking any of his calls. Randy’s father was once an NHL player but he lost it all when he overindulged in alcohol and women. There is no love lost between the two, but Randy is haunted by his father’s past because he fears he will walk in his footsteps. This terrifies Randy because his father is the antithesis of the man he wants to be.

Will Randy’s fears become a reality or can Lily’s love help him to see with better clarity?

So this book was like an early birthday present for me!! I had only read PUCKED OVER previously and once I was lucky enough to get this ARC, I knew I had to read Violet and Alex’s first book so that I could truly appreciate this one. I’m so happy that I did and I just can’t say enough about how much I truly enjoyed this book!! I was torn between savoring and devouring it. Never did I once feel a lull in the story. I was engrossed from the first page to the very end of the epilogue.

The series so far has been very light-hearted with a little bit of angst thrown in for good measure. Since Violet is such a silly and lovable heroine and Alex adoringly dotes on her and caters to her every whim, I thought I was in store for a laugh out loud and steamy ride, because let’s face it, the Beaver and Super MC can’t get enough of each other. BUT, be prepared for some serious drama in this one. It kind of hit me out of nowhere and actually I am wondering why I never thought such a thing would happen in this story. Needless to say, I shed a few tears during this installment.

Violet and Alex’s wedding date hasn’t been set because she is deathly afraid of making a fool out of herself. She was involved in an embarrassing fiasco at her mother’s wedding and is certain history will repeat itself at her own wedding. And everything isn’t all roses and sunshine between them when Alex starts to tell Violet that she doesn’t need to work anymore since he makes plenty enough money to support her. She’s a very independent woman and her career is starting to take off, so Alex’s offer doesn’t sit well with her. Violet’s priorities will be seriously challenged when an incident threatens to tip her entire universe off its axis.

This story had it all – comedy, drama, and a plethora of STEAM!! This is one you will definitely want to pick up! The book goes live tomorrow!! If you haven’t read this series yet….WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??!!
