BLURB

Maybe that old song got it right.

Maybe love can be better the second time around.

When one of my wingmen needs help, I’ll do anything for him, including calling in a favor with the one person I swore I’d never speak to again.

Not after I walked away from that life five years ago and ditched the trappings of my success. The keyword being trap.

I left it all behind.

Including her.

Now the ambitious, brilliant, talented, and undeniably beautiful Roslyn Porter is back in my life. I’m not the same person she knew. I’m trying to be a better man.

No man is an island, but Dan Ashland comes close. He’s content with his quiet life on Whidbey, a world away from the rat race on the other side of the ferry.

Dan has three great loves in his life: solitude, pizza, and Roslyn Porter.

**Better Love is a standalone second chance romance featuring Dan Ashland and the fourth book in the Wingmen series.

EXCERPT

Making my way through the farmers’ market, I waved to the vendors I knew as I skated by them on my board. Sally at the Tilth Farm booth winked at me and pointed at her butternut squashes. Knowing her, she could either have meant for pizzas, or their girth. Hard to know.

Weaving my way to the other side of the street, I smelled the coffee from Whidbey Joe’s before I reached their booth. Erik and Jonah stood side by side loudly discussing the merits of pour over versus French press brewing methods. A small group of women listened to them as if it were the most fascinating conversation ever. Behind the coffee fangirls stood Cari, Erik’s girlfriend, with her head close to another woman, lost in conversation.

I skidded to a stop and was about to tap Cari on the shoulder when the other woman turned her profile toward me. I knew that face. At one point its features had been as familiar as my own. I froze as a thousand memories collided in my head the moment I recognized her.

Roslyn Porter stared at me as if I’d walked through a wall like a ghost.

I understood the feeling. I never expected to see her standing on Second Street on a Friday afternoon.

Yes, I recommended she work with Erik, but I didn’t know she came to the island. There should’ve been a warning system for exes approaching on the ferry. Like the emergency alerts on our cell phones. Amber alerts for grown-ups with emotional baggage. A tracking app for old attachments to prevent awkward situations at the grocery store. Or while standing in the middle of the street minding my own business.

Someone needed to make an app for life in a small town.

A man deserved a little warning when he was about to be face-to-face with his past.

amore-p2-teaser-7

The conclusion to the AMORE saga is filled with a lot of action with a little side of steam. Personally, I could have used a little more of the schmexy, but overall I found this to be a very entertaining read.

The story starts off about nine months after Julietta’s kidnapping and Maria’s subsequent death. Julietta has been hiding out in her best-friend Celia’s home with her new-born son. Riccardo has been threatening the lives of her child and her father if she does not go along with his plans to take down Rafael. He wants Julietta to rekindle the relationship she had with Rafael so that she can get the inside scoop on what’s going on within the Lencioni organization.

amore-p2-teaser-8

Julietta and Rafael soon cross paths and he seems not to be concerned with where she has been for the last several months, but more preoccupied with rekindling their arrangement. He wants her back in his bed and will do whatever it takes to make that happen. Rafael had no idea that Julietta was pregnant and that they had a son together. Her plan is to keep this secret from him because she doesn’t want her son to have any links to the mafia. When Riccardo’s paranoid and erratic behavior puts Julietta in a precarious situation, will Rafael be able to forgive her for her supposed betrayal? Or will he realize that she was placed into an impossible situation?

I really loved the first book but felt like there were a few things that didn’t quite make sense in this one. My favorite character in this book was Celia. Her fierce loyalty to Julietta was beyond admirable. There are several characters from Bella Jewel’s MC series that make an appearance in this story and I’m sure those of you who have read them will enjoy being reunited with some of your favorites.

If you’re looking for a quick and fun read, then I would highly recommend the AMORE series.

It’s crazy how fast the buzz comes back after you’ve been sober for so long.Whiskey stood there, on my doorstep, just like he had one year before. Except this time, there was no rain, no anger, no wedding invitation — it was just us.

It was just him — the old friend, the easy smile, the twisted solace wrapped in a glittering bottle.

It was just me — the alcoholic, pretending like I didn’t want to taste him, realizing too quickly that months of being clean didn’t make me crave him any less.

But we can’t start here.

No, to tell this story right, we need to go back.

Back to the beginning.

Back to the very first drop.

This is my love letter to Whiskey. I only hope he reads it.

Excerpt

The first time I tasted Whiskey, I fell flat on my face.

Literally.

I was drunk from the very first sip, and I guess that should have been my sign to stay away.

Jenna and I were running the trail around the lake near her house, sweat dripping into our eyes from the intense South Florida heat. It was early September, but in South Florida, it might as well have been July. There was no “boots and scarves” season, unless you counted the approximately six weeks in January and February where the temperature dropped below eighty degrees.

As it was, we were battling ninety-plus degrees, me trying to be a show off and prove I could keep up with Jenna’s cheerleading training program. She had finally made the varsity squad, and with that privilege came ridiculous standards she had to uphold. I hated running — absolutely loathed it. I would much rather have been on my surf board that day. But fortunately for Jenna, she had a competitive best friend who never turned down a challenge. So when she asked me to train with her, I’d agreed eagerly, even knowing I’d have screaming ribs and calves by the end of the day.

I saw him first.

I was just a few steps ahead of Jenna, and I’d been staring down at my hot pink sneakers as they hit the concrete. When I looked up, he was about fifty feet away, and even from that distance I could tell I was in trouble. He seemed sort of average at first — brown hair, lean build, soaked white running shirt — but the closer he got, the more I realized just how edible he was. I noticed the shift in the muscles of his legs as he ran, the way his hair bounced slightly, how he pressed his lips together in concentration as he neared us.

I looked over my shoulder, attempting to waggle my eyebrows at Jenna and give her the secret best friend code for “hot guy up ahead”, but she had stopped to tie her shoes. And when I turned back around, it was too late.

I smacked into him — hard — and fell to the pavement, rolling a bit to soften the fall. He cursed and I groaned, more from embarrassment than pain. I wish I could say I gracefully picked myself up, smiled radiantly, and asked him for his number, but the truth is I lost the ability to do anything the minute I looked up at him.

It was an unfamiliar, warm ache that spread through my chest as I used my hand to shield the sun streaming in behind his silhouette, just how you’d expect the first sip of whiskey to feel. He was bent over, hand outstretched, saying something that wasn’t registering because I had somehow managed to slip my hand into his and just that one touch had set my skin on fire.

Handsome wasn’t the right word to describe him, but it was all I kept thinking as I traced his features. His hair was a sort of mocha color, damp at the roots, falling onto his forehead just slightly. His eyes were wide — almost too round — and a mixture of gold, green, and the deepest brown. I didn’t coin the nickname Whiskey until much later, but it was that moment that I saw it for the first time — those were whiskey eyes. The kind of eyes you get lost in. The kind that drink you in. He had the longest lashes and a firm, square jaw. It was so hard, the edges so clean that I would have sworn he was angry with me if it weren’t for the smile on his face.He was still talking as my eyes fell over his broad chest before snapping back up to his sideways grin.

“Oh my God, are you fucking blind?!” Jenna’s voice snapped me from my haze as she shoved Whiskey out of the way and latched onto my hand, ripping me back to standing position. I’d barely caught my balance before she whipped around to continue her scolding. “How about you brush that long ass hair out of your eyes and watch where you’re going, huh champ?”

Oh no.

I didn’t even have time to call dibs, I couldn’t even think the word, let alone say it, before it was too late. I watched it, in slow motion, as Whiskey fell for my best friend before I even had the chance to say a single word to him.

Jenna was standing tall, arms crossed, one hip popped in her usual fashion as she waited for him to defend himself. This was her protocol — it was one of the reasons we got along. We were both what you’d call “spitfires”, but Jenna had the distinct advantage of being cripplingly gorgeous on top of having an attitude. She flipped her long, wavy blonde ponytail behind her and cocked a brow.

And then he did, too.

His smile grew wider as he met her eyes, and it was the same look I’d watched fall over guy after countless guy. Jenna was a unicorn, and men were enamored by her. As they should have been — she had platinum blonde hair, crystal blue eyes, legs for days and a personality to boot. Now, before you go thinking that I was the insecure best friend – I had it going on, too. I worked hard, I was talented – just not at the things traditional high school boys valued.

But we’ll get to that.

“Hi,” Whiskey finally said, extending his hand to Jenna this time. His eyes were warm, smile inviting — if I had to pick the right word for him, just one, I’d say charming. He just oozed charm. “I’m Jamie.”

“Well, Jamie, maybe you should make an appointment with the eye doctor before you run over another innocent jogger. And you owe Brecks an apology.” She nodded to me then and I cringed at my name, wondering why she felt the need to spill it at all. She always called me B — everyone did — so why did she choose the moment I was face to face with the first boy to ever make my heart accelerate to use my full name?

Jamie was still grinning, eying Jenna, trying to figure her out, but he turned to me after a moment with that same crooked smile. “I’m sorry, I should have been watching where I was going.” He said the words with conviction, but lifted his brows on that last line because he and I both knew who wasn’t paying attention to the trail, and he wasn’t the guilty party.

“It’s fine,” I murmured, because for some reason I was still having a difficult time finding my voice. Jamie tilted his head just a fraction, his eyes hard on me this time, and I felt naked beneath his gaze. I’d never had anyone look at me that way — completely zeroed in. It was unnerving and exhilarating, too.

But before I could latch onto the feeling, he turned back to Jenna, their eyes meeting as slow smiles spread on both of their faces. I’d seen it a million times, but this was the first time I felt sick watching it happen.

I saw him first, but it didn’t matter.

Because he saw her.

REVIEW – THE SILENT WATERS (Elements #3) by Brittainy C. Cherry

the-silent-waters-ebook-cover

SYNOPSIS:

Moments.

Our lives are a collection of moments. Some utterly painful and full of yesterday’s hurts. Some beautifully hopeful and full of tomorrow’s promises.

I’ve had many moments in my lifetime, moments that changed me, challenged me. Moments that scared me and engulfed me. However, the biggest ones—the most heartbreaking and breathtaking ones—all included him.

I was ten years old when I lost my voice. A piece of me was stolen away, and the only person who could truly hear my silence was Brooks Griffin. He was the light during my dark days, the promise of tomorrow, until tragedy found him. Tragedy that eventually drowned him in a sea of memories.

This is the story of a boy and girl who loved each other, but didn’t love themselves. A story of life and death. Of love and broken promises.

Of moments.

(Book Three in the Elements Series. Complete Standalone.)

*****Dee’s Review*****

One Million Beautiful Stars****************

(ARC kindly provided by author)
(BR with my lovelies, Patty and Mel)

Brittainy C. Cherry wrote a book that spoke to my heart; every word consumed me, pained me, and enlightened me. The beauty and power of this novel felt unprecedented to me. An encouraging story that will forever stay engraved in my heart.

20583354-_sy540_

Maggie May was a girl that was always happy. She fell in love with a boy who gave her light, when she was scared of the darkness. When she was ten years old she witnesses something horrific that took away her voice, her childhood and her faith in the world.

Brooks has only ever loved one girl; Maggie May. When they were little he used to get annoyed by her plans for their future wedding, but as they grew up, her smile was the one thing he couldn’t live without.

Brooks and Maggie had a special bond, they could communicate through a simple look, or with a song. Their mutual love of music was something that solidified their bond through the years. Sharing lyrics and stories, and getting lost together in a world where there was no pain or darkness was the most precious thing they had.

Life isn’t easy for Maggie, fear always reigns over her life. Guilt and pain affected every person around her. Her once easy relationships with her mom and sister are now almost non-existent , thanks to all the demons that live inside their little yellow house.

Luckily for Maggie, Brooks is always there, and also her dad. They are both her constant. The ones that no matter time or distance, no matter how many times she disappoints them by allowing fear to keep her trapped, they are always there, loving her.

20583355-_sy540_

The center of this book is love; beautiful, patient, loyal love. Through love, Maggie will be able to break the shackles that have held her hostage, through love she will be able to give back to her family everything they gave to her, and because of love, she will be able to forgive and mend those relationships that have suffered because of the silence.

This book was a hard read, but I can also tell you, that I swear I could see the pages of this book glow with a powerful shine, that will blind your eyes and fill your heart with hope and courage.

This book is a gift for those who lost their voice, to those who are afraid to speak and are missing out on life because they are scared.

A beautiful, romantic, and heartwarming novel full of music, that you are going to want to give to everyone in your life, and you will treasure forever.

Eventually, he comes around to not thinking girls are gross & realizes he likes Maggie May too. They are absolutely adorable!

When Maggie May is around ten years old she has an experience that changes her life. She isn’t the carefree little girl full of joy anymore. She’s so traumatized she loses her voice. It’s like her soul, innocence & youth are stolen from her. Through her darkest days, Brooks is her light. The one person who always stood by her & fought for her. He gave her time & space and never made her feel broken. Eventually, Brooks moves away to follow his dreams. He returns and later tragedy strikes his life as well. Life throws many struggles their way, but together they can survive anything.

-Maggie always reminded me of music. She was my music.

-It was freeing to feel so much with someone who felt it too. It was during those moments that I felt I learned the most about her. It was in those moments that she learned the most about me. I hadn’t known you could hear someone’s voice so clearly in the silent moments.

-The last time I’d been kissed was by the same boy who wrapped his arms around me, who held me as if I were a promise of a dream he didn’t know he had.

-I felt his soul, my body pressed against his.

-Everything about his soul lit me on fire, and I was proud to burn beside him.

-Every time he touched me, I wanted more.

I would give this book ten stars if I could. It’s one of those books that will stay on my mind for a while. I adored Brooks so much! He had my heart from the moment with the night light. I was gone for him after that. Brooks simply is Maggie’s joy. He’s everything good & pure in her life, and the one constant she can always count on. I loved how music & books were so much a part of this story, & we’re almost like therapy.

Every time I finish a Brittainy Cherry book my heart is overflowing with emotion. No author has ever made me feel so much reading a book the way Brittainy does. Her words are beauty, truth, wisdom and love all woven together to create an unforgettable story that touches your heart & soul.

-The thing about love. It didn’t leave because you told it to go.

-Being in love with someone didn’t mean you only loved them during the sunbeams. It meant you stood by their side during the cloudy nights, too.

-She was right about me, and her, and us. She’d be the one girl I’d love until forever. No matter how life tried to change us.

-I wanted to make her smile. If I could only do one thing for the rest of my life, it would be to make her smile, and it was time for her to know that, to know how I felt.

-I’ve had many moments in my lifetime, moments that changed me, challenged me, moments that scared me and engulfed me. However, the biggest ones- the most heartbreaking and breathtaking ones- all included her.

Just reading that one of so many quotes I loved in this book, gave me the chills. THE SILENT WATERS is nothing short of a MASTERPIECE. If you’ve ever read anything by Brittainy C Cherry, then you are already aware of the amazing gift this woman has for storytelling. It was apparent from the very beginning of this book that it had the makings to be one of the ”Best of 2016”!!! The author is going to make you experience a gamut of emotions during this journey with Maggie May and Brooks. Having read several of Brittainy’s books in the past, my heart was prepared for an emotional rollercoaster ride and I was more than ready to take the plunge!

Maggie May and Brooks Tyler have been childhood friends ever since she moved to Wisconsin with her father who had recently married a woman with two kids of her own. The cute letters back and forth between young Maggie and Brooks had me laughing so hard that my tummy ached. Oh but the laughter soon will die along with the adorable and exuberant voice of little Maggie May. Fast forward a few years, a ten-year-old Maggie has plans to wed her one and only true love, Brooks, out in the woods on the outskirts of their neighborhood. It is in these woods that Maggie goes through a traumatic experience that leaves a devastating psychological effect on her. Maggie has lost her ability to speak. But even through her darkest of times, there is a bright shining light that brings joy to her life in the form of a beautiful boy—Brooks!

Brooks’ and Maggie May’s friendship was very much the pinnacle of the story for me. Even though Maggie has lost her ability to express herself vocally, the two communicate as if they were two halves of a whole. Their love of music and reading deepens the bond between them and during some particularly trying times it also soothes them. I fell so hard for Brooks. It is virtually impossible not to. His love for Maggie May knows no bounds, and really how could you not love a guy who would read his girl’s favorite books and then mail them to her with tons of post-it notes with his thoughts included??!! Seriously swoon-worthy to the millionth degree!!

There are several amazing secondary characters, one who deserves special mention is Mrs. Boone. The feisty old lady and Maggie have a truly special friendship. I got a kick out of her snarky attitude. What I love about this story is that it made me realize that I am too quick to judge people for their faults. There were a couple of characters that I immediately despised and I was not even willing to question what might be causing them to act out the way that they were. As the story develops we learn what drove those characters’ actions and it enabled me to forgive them.

This story is hard at times to endure and it had me bawling my eyes out one minute and then screaming in frustration the next. My advice to those of you who have not read this yet is to have a friend buddy read it with you. You are going to need someone to talk you down from throwing your kindle or iPAD across the room!! That is another thing that makes this story so fantastic – it really turned me into an emotional wreck. I felt so passionate about these characters and the heartbreak that transpires almost annihilated me!!

Do yourselves a favor and don’t wait even a minute to one-click and start reading this beautiful story! Whether or not you are a Brittainy C Cherry fan, I honestly don’t think you will be disappointed with this book!! For me, THE SILENT WATERS is going to be categorized as THE BEST BOOK OF ALL TIME!! It is one I will surely be re-reading over and over again for many years to come.

Make sure you read the author’s note at the end. If you didn’t love her before, that note will definitely turn you into an instant fangirl. I have even more respect for this amazing woman.

Of moments.
