WRAPPED UP IN READING’s REVIEW OF LOVE WALKS IN

Excerpt
Chapter One
Good things
came in large, thick envelopes. At least, that was what Aria Prescott had
always believed. Wedding invitations, college acceptances, Christmas cards,
love letters.
But this?
She sank
onto a chair in her darkened café, crumpling the brown envelope in her fist.
The formal letter was clipped to a stack of papers made heavier by the copious
use of legalese—clauses, conditions,
title. Financial terms.
Dropping
the letter, she looked through the brick-and-glass partition separating the
lounge from the front room of the café. Evening light illuminated the painted Meow and Then sign on the window. A
chalkboard menu hung on the wall behind the counter. Wooden shelves held cat
toys and cat-themed merchandise.
She’d
created this. For the first time in her life, she’d gone the distance, gotten
the job done, seen the plan through. She couldn’t—wouldn’t—let anything change that now.
Jumbo
butted his fuzzy head against her arm.
“Sorry,
sweetie.” Stroking the tabby cat’s ears, Aria got to her feet. “Thirteen orders
of chicken bites in gravy coming right up.”
Cats of all
sizes stirred from various lounging positions around the room. Tails swishing
and ears perked, they padded over to the row of food and water dishes.
Pushing the
letter out of her mind, Aria retrieved cans of chicken from the storage cabinet
and prepared dinner for her thirteen charges. A few of them meowed and
slithered around her legs, while others sat waiting regally for their meal to
be served.
A one-eyed
cat with patchy fur, a torn left ear, and a sharp fanged tooth poking out of
his mouth crouched under a table.
“Come on,
Fang.” Aria clicked her tongue at the old cat, who glared at her. “Yummy
chicken.”
She filled
a separate dish and set it close to him. Only when she backed away did he edge
forward to eat.
After
refilling the water dishes, she tied the full trash bag and headed out the back
door to put it in the garbage bin. A thick layer of ocean fog and encroaching
rainclouds covered the sky, blocking the sunset. Though the April weather had
been temperate, evenings were cool in the coastal California town of Bliss
Cove.
It was
Aria’s favorite time of year—warm days bursting with color and new life
followed by chilly nights of sweatshirts and bonfires. But this spring was more
important than all previous ones because before summer arrived, Aria’s mother
and two older sisters would see that she could not only follow through with a
plan, but make it a success. She’d finally prove that she was stronger and
smarter than anyone—herself included—had believed.
The
backdoor of the café creaked. A large calico peered at her from the crack in
the open door, which she never forgot to close.
Until now.
Not the greatest start to smarter.
“Hey, boy.”
Keeping her voice soft, she locked her gaze to his. “Go back inside.
I’ll…Porkchop!”
Faster than
a blink, the cat shot into the alley and ran.
“Porkchop!”
Aria slammed the door shut so the other cats wouldn’t escape. She hurried
around to the front of the café just as his swishing tail disappeared around
the corner. “Who knew you could move so fast? Porkchop!”
Soon it
would be dark and rainy. Breaking into a run, Aria followed the cat away from
Mariposa Street. The rundown historic district was at least three miles from
the center of downtown. Shops and restaurants lined the streets converging
toward the popular and busy Starfish Avenue.
Annoyance
flickered through her. In the two weeks she’d had Porkchop, he’d proven to be
both wily and smug. He’d chewed rolls of paper towels, shoved other cats off
the windowsill, and Aria swore he’d deliberately broken one of the cat
figurines in the lounge.
There! A
black-and-orange furball was just visible under a parked pick-up truck. She
crept forward and extended her hand.
“Come on,
Porkie Pie,” she crooned. “Come back home and I’ll give you some nice tuna
fish…Porkchop!”
He darted
away. Several passers-by paused to try and catch him. The overweight cat
continued to move surprisingly fast, evading every grasp.
Aria’s
lungs started to burn. Skidding in her flat, strappy sandals, she caught sight
of him crossing the street to the ramshackle Outside Inn. The old Queen Anne
building sprawled over an expanse of tree-dotted lawn with a trail leading to
Pelican Beach.
Heavy
raindrops started to fall. Aria hurried up the pathway leading to the
wrap-around porch. Thick shrubs and overgrown weeds lined the foundation of the
inn underneath the multiple lighted windows. Porkchop shot behind a dense
boxwood.
“You
little…” She pushed through the shrubs, cursing as her flowy cotton skirt
caught on a wet branch and tore. “You’re lucky I took you on, you ungrateful
little mouse catcher. If it weren’t for me, you’d be…Porkchop!”
Tail
swishing, he bounded to the corner of the inn. If he took off toward the beach
trail…she’d never find him on the dark shoreline. But under the awning, he was
protected from the rain. Maybe he’d opt for comfort over risk and adventure.
Comfort is a far better choice, my feline
friend. Trust me on that.
The cat
stopped. His whiskers twitched. His yellow eyes gleamed. Aria gritted her
teeth.
“You come
here right now.” She clapped her hands sharply and raised her voice. “I work
very hard to give you and your fellow feline brethren a nice place to live, and
I do not appreciate being forced to race through the—”
A window
slammed open right above her. “What the hell is going on out here?”
The deep
male voice boomed like thunder. Aria’s heart jumped into her throat. Forcing an
apologetic smile onto her lips, she straightened and looked up. Right into the
scowling face of a man whose glare burned right into her.
She opened
and closed her mouth. No words came out. Her heart raced.
“Well?” His
black eyebrows snapped together over his intense dark eyes. He was still
holding the window sash up, and the lifted position of his arms stretched his
white dress shirt over impressively bulging biceps.
“What are
you doing out here?” he barked.
“I….there’s
a cat.” Trying to gather her scattered wits, she ran shaking hands over her
dress. “Uh, I was just—”
“You were
annoying the crap out of me is what you were just doing.”
Irritation
stiffened Aria’s spine.
“I’m sorry,
I didn’t mean to annoy you.” She
indicated Porkchop, who was still sitting at the corner of the inn, staring at
the man as if he, too, were transfixed by his sheer potency. “I’m trying to
save my cat.”
His mouth
twisted sardonically. “Your cat.”
“My felis catus, if you want the Latin
term.”
He expelled
an impatient breath, his scowl deepening. Letting go of the window sash, he
raked a hand through his disheveled dark hair. His sleeves were rolled up to the
elbows, revealing tanned forearms corded with muscle.
Good God. Who was he, this man whose glower ratcheted up
his sexiness by about a thousand degrees?
And what
was she doing fixating on him when
she still had to catch Porkchop? The rain was coming down harder.
“I
apologize.” She drew her shoulders back and met his smoldering black eyes. “My
cat escaped and made his way here, for some reason. I’m trying to catch him.”

He shot a glare at the animal, who was still staring and twitching his tail.
“Given his size, it doesn’t look as if catching him should be that hard.”

Aria
frowned, stung by the dig about Porkchop’s weight. “I’ll thank you not to
insult my cat.”

“You named him Porkchop.”
“I didn’t
name him. And he

*****FIVE STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

Every part of her felt warm and glowing. She’d thought the light inside her had gone out long ago. How crazy and wonderful that he had made it burn so brightly—a captivating stranger she would never see again.

I have such a good feeling about the ”Bliss Cove” series, after having finished the first installment. Nina Lindsey is an author I have loved for quite a while now. It’s her new pen name. To be honest, I’m not sure why she chose to go by another name but I’m glad that at least she hasn’t given up writing. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t read by her. Her Heroes are every woman’s ultimate fantasy. I don’t know how she does it but she’s made me fall in love with all of them!! Hunter Armstrong is sure to melt the hearts of many readers, and Aria Prescott was a lovable and endearing Heroine. There isn’t anything that I didn’t love about this story. It had awesome characters, an engaging plot, and a Hero and Heroine with out of this world chemistry. This story had it all, including some adorable cats looking for their forever homes.

Aria is the baby of the family. She’s known for being flighty and never seeing anything through to completion. She’s back home in Bliss Cove after having left for several months and she’s determined to make a success of her business, the ”Meow and Then Cat Cafe”, that she’s opened up in the historical district on Mariposa Street. One half of it is a café where she offers refreshments, sandwiches, and pastries. The other half of the establishment is a cozy space that she customized for cats to inhabit, and her customers are free to sit and spend time with the cute felines. She keeps up to 15 homeless cats at a time and advertises their adoption information on her website. Aria is a very intelligent and caring young woman who is passionate about her business and about preserving the historic district of Bliss Cove.

She meets a sexy as hell stranger one night when one of her cats escapes and he helps her find the naughty kitty. Crazy sparks fly between them but during their encounter, they failed to exchange names. Aria decides to file her time with the stranger away as a fond and sexy memory. She never expected Hunter to walk in her café the next day, dressed in an Armani suit, holding a contract offering to buy her business. The man that had her pulse racing turns out to be her worst enemy.

Trying to remain indifferent to the man who has been the star of her late-night fantasies proves harder than Aria thought it would be. Soon the two decide to put their differences aside and become friends but friendship is not going to cut it for Hunter and Aria. How can these two make things work when their goals are in direct opposition of each other? Will Aria give up her fight to save Mariposa Street? Or will Hunter walk away from his shot at becoming CEO of Imperial Properties?

My books all tend to be darker romance, the edge of your
seat, angst-filled reads. My advice to my readers when starting one of my
titles… prepare for the unexpected.
I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be
through lyrics or bedtime stories with my sisters growing up.
My mom would always have a book in her hand when I was young
and passed on her love for reading, inspiring me to venture into writing my
own. Not all love stories are made from light- some are created in darkness but
are just as powerful and worth telling.
When I’m not lost in the world of characters, I love
spending time with my family. I’m a mom and that comes first in my life, but
when I do get down time, I love attending music concerts or reading events with
my younger sister.

I’m already in too deep to turn away from her now. It’s fast but explosive between us. I’ve never wanted anything more than an arrangement before. And that was always fine. Until things changed.

K. Webster is the Queen of kinky erotica. She and Ker Dukey have collaborated on many works and their latest series, ”KKinky Reads” is compiled of steamy and sometimes downright dirty novellas that are sure to get readers’ temperatures rising. I’m not particularly a fan of “Daddy” kink, but I found ”DADDY ME” to be rather tame compared to K. Webster and Ker Dukey’s other collaborative works. This was an erotic twist on the Cinderella fairy tale. It’s a quick and entertaining read. I highly recommend it for those of you who are looking for a quick and steamy fix.

JESSE

I’m outside. Where are you?
That’s what I text to Emma once I pull up in front of her building. She’s
testing me but I’m ready for her today. I am willing to overlook the drugging
and the kidnapping—but no one walks out on me the way she did last night.
No one.
So am I being petty and childish by demanding that she spend the day with
me learning her lesson?
Absolutely.
Do I care?
Absolutely not.
I don’t even know what we’re going to do today. I have no plans other
than monopolize her day. Make her waste time with me. Make her hate me.
This is what’s called the classic hate fuck, Jesse.
Her words are burned into my mind forever. I will never stop hearing her
say that to me. Ever.
The balls on this woman. Giant, motherfucking bull-sized balls on this
woman.
My phone dings in my hand just as a horn honks behind me.
I glance down at the screen and read her message. I’m right behind you.
Then I glance in the rear-view and see her waving at me from a… what the
fuck?
She’s smiling broadly from the driver’s seat of a matte-black Lamborghini
Huracán, her curlicue pigtails bobbing around her face.
She honks again. My phone dings. The text reads. Get in. I’m driving.
Oh, I don’t think so. I came here in a motherfucking Ferrari
Portofino
. Red. So I text back. You get in. I’m driving.
My phone rings. “What?” I ask, so annoyed. Because while the Portofino
was an excellent choice, I do have to admit the Huracán has sex written all
over it.
“I’m driving. Get in.”
“You’re not driving,” I say. “I’m the man, I do the driving.”
She revs her engine behind me. “We’re taking my car. If you’re a good boy
maybe I’ll let you drive it.”
“I could buy my own Huracán, Emma. I don’t need to drive yours.”
I catch her smiling even bigger in the mirror. “We can compare dicks all
day long if you want. But I’m not getting out of this car until we arrive at
our destination. So. I suggest you pick and choose your battles carefully, Mr.
Boston. Because as you can see, I’m sporting pigtails. And what you can’t see
is that I’m wearing the same outfit I was that day at the shaved ice stand all
those years ago.”
“Hmm,” I say.
“Hmm, indeed. This is your fantasy, right? You want to make me look like
that teenager I was back then. Fine. I’ll play along. If you let me drive my
car.”
“I don’t know where you got this car, but it’s definitely not yours.”
“It is now. I had it delivered fifteen minutes ago.”
“You bought a two-hundred-thousand-dollar car to impress me?”
“Two-seventy-five with upgrades. But who’s counting? And I didn’t do it
to impress you, Jesse. Don’t be dumb. I did it to make you feel inferior.”
“So that’s how this is gonna go?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“You’re trying to hate-fuck me with a car.”
“I… don’t really know if that’s a thing. But sure.”
I hesitate.
“You know you want to drive it.”
“I really don’t have a thing for fast cars, Emma. You miscalculated.”
She revs her engine again and it sounds like a fucking lion. Or a lion
ready to fuck. One of the two. “Everyone has a thing for this car. Don’t
you want to see the interior? I wish I had time to customize it myself, but oh,
well. Listen to the sound system—”
The chorus of Smells Like Teen Spirit blares out into the city.
Everyone within a hundred yards turn to look at her.
I check the mirror again and find her banging her head and laughing
hysterically, her pigtails flying back and forth.
I text, Stop it. You’re embarrassing yourself.
She pauses her head-banging to text back. Get. In. The. Car. Now. Or
I’ll roll down the window and ask that hot-as-fuck jogger to get in instead.
I glance at the jogger. He’s shirtless, sweaty, and not bad-looking—OK.
No. He’s hot, even I can see that—and he’s also smiling at Emma like he wants
to throw her down on the hood of that Huracán and fuck her right here in front
of the whole city.
I get out, toss my keys to her building valet, and intercept the jogger
with a hand in the air. “Back off, asshole.”

Just five months ago, Valentine O’Dell started
working at a very special kind of nightclub – one where you can dance the night
away, or live out your greatest fantasy. She’s learned to lose herself to her
nights, forgetting all her day time woes as she charms every man she meets.
It’s easy enough to do when she doesn’t let her feelings get involved.
Then Ari Sharapova walks in and changes
everything.
Working for his father’s law firm has left Ari
with very little control over his life, so when he sees Valentine for the first
time, he sees a girl who is desperate for someone to take care of her. To take
over her. So what he can’t get for himself in the day time, he’ll simply take
for himself at night. But when power struggles lead to real feelings, who’s
actually controlling whom?
Some relationships are better left in the
dark.

Excerpt
When Valentine got to the ladies room, she all but fell
through the door. A bathroom attendant jumped out of her chair, asking if she
was alright.
“I’m fine,” she groaned. “Just bumped into a blonde
nightmare.”
“Oh,” the attendant laughed. “One of those, huh?”
“Rich people are the worst,” Val growled, moving to lean
against a sink. “You know? They just think they can talk to you however they
want. Screw them.”
“I couldn’t agree more.”
She was ready to go off on another tangent, but then the
door burst open once again. Ari strode into the room, startling both of them.
“Sir, this is the -” the attendant started.
Leave,” he ordered her, though his eyes never left
Valentine’s.
The attendant looked unsure for a moment. Val rolled her
eyes, but she eventually nodded her head, signaling that it was okay. The
attendant nodded back, then demurely left the room.
“A little dramatic,” Val said once the door had shut.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?” he demanded.
She belatedly realized he was angry. Ari was very, very
angry. She glanced around the room.
“Well, I was gonna pee – I thought this was the best place
to do it,” she tried to joke. His glare grew even more severe and he loomed
over her.
“What are you doing here? At this restaurant? With
that piece of shit out there?” he clarified. Her jaw dropped.
“Uh, excuse me, I think you’ll find that your ex is
the only piece of shit here,” she informed him. “You should’ve told her not to
come where she isn’t wanted.”
“Don’t you ever tell me what to do. Now explain yourself.”
Explain myself?” Valentine laughed loudly and
stepped away from the sink, not wanting him to have the power position of
leaning over her. “Excuse me, but I’m not your girlfriend. I don’t have to
explain anything to you.”
“No, you’re my property, and as such there are rules
you must abide by,” he growled. “Rules we both agreed upon.”
So much of what he’d just said was messed up, but she
decided to save most of it for later and tackle what exactly it was that had
him so pissed off right now.
“That’s why you’re upset?” she asked. “Because of the guy
I’m having dinner with? Because of Ralph?
“I’m upset because you’re breaking the rules. I paid a lot
of money for you – I won’t tolerate insubordination.”
“You paid a lot of money for my time,” Val corrected
him. “So screw you, Ari, I’m not breaking shit.”
“I told you in the beginning,” he started. “No other
‘clients’ – no picking anyone else up at your club. And I don’t believe for one
second you met Ralph out there on Tinder, or at the laundromat, or at school,
or wherever, so he must be a client. What the fuck.
Oh my god, he’s jealous. Jeez, you fuck a guy a couple
times and suddenly he thinks he owns you.
Yet still, somewhere deep down in her chest, her heart began
to beat faster.
“Yes, he’s a client,” Val snapped. “But I didn’t break any rules.
I agreed to a dinner date with him before I met you, it’s been set up
for weeks now, I’m just fulfilling a deal. My world doesn’t revolve around you,
Ari.”
“It had better fucking start to.”
“Are you kidding?” she asked. “You’re mad? How do you
think I feel, seeing you here with friends and not being able to acknowledge
you, and then having your evil ex talk to me like that, like she’s still with
you?”
“Deal with it – you knew what you were signing up for.”
Val was pretty sure steam was about to shoot out of her
ears.
“I signed up to give you exclusive rights to my time,” she
growled. “Not to be verbally abused by your bitchy ex-girlfriend, and not to be
treated like some contractually obligated whore.”
“If the contract fits.”
Valentine slapped him before she could stop herself,
shocking both of them.
“Don’t you ever talk to me like that again!” she hissed. Ari
stared down at her, his blue eyes ablaze with anger, that errant lock of hair
falling across his forehead once again.
“I’ll talk to you however I want. Don’t ever fucking hit me
again.”
She let out a frustrated shriek, then she slapped him again
before pounding her hands against his chest. He struggled to grab hold of her
arms, shoving her across the room and slamming her up against the wall by the
door. He pinned her wrists near her head, then they glared at each other, both
their chests heaving, both their hearts raging.
He’s the worst.
She was suddenly kissing him. Or he was kissing her. It was
impossible to tell – they were no longer two separate entities. He let go of
her wrists and she immediately started clawing at the front of his blazer,
trying to pull it apart. His left hand went around her throat, gently
squeezing, while his right hand went to her exposed thigh, rubbing the outside
of it.
“This dress,” Ari gasped against her. “Jesus, when I saw it
…”
“When I put it on tonight, I thought of you,” Valentine
spoke quickly, finally undoing the button and pushing her hands inside his
jacket.
I want to fucking rip it off of you.
“God, yes, I want that, too,” she groaned, dragging her
nails down his back, wishing her hands were against his skin.
Then his tongue was back between her lips, just as
aggressive as always. He didn’t just take a taste when he kissed – Ari made a
whole meal of her mouth, and she loved being devoured.
Author Bio
Crazy woman
from a remote location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a
necessity!), I have been writing since … forever? Yeah, that sounds about
right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball – I also see
shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I’m
clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.
I like dogs
more than I like most people, and I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t drink. No, I
do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the
year, there’s your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair – both a
curse and a blessing – and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can’t
understand me.
Yeah. I
think that about sums me up.

AMAZONAnthony Dwayne

Anthony started writing years ago as a hobby, but it quickly
turned into a passion. He first began publishing under the name, Kane Caldwell,
but has since changed the name he will continue publishing under. He is the
epitome of a country boy with jeans, t-shirt, hat (No, not a cowboy hat. Lol),
scruffy face, work boots on, driving his truck and definitely not a guy you’d
picture writing romance. Anthony works in the construction business where he
runs his own crew. He has two awesome boys, and an amazing woman that keeps him
on the edge. He drinks way too much coffee and probably curses in one day
what others curse in their lifetime. Lol! Anthony resides in the south
where the weather is warm but most times sweltering hot. During down time, he
loves to be surrounded by family, friends, great food, or engrossed in a good
book. And of course, putting his imagination to work, where reality and fantasy
collide.
