WRAPPED UP IN READING’s REVIEW OF THE BUTTERFLY PROJECT

The Butterfly Project Blurb:

“Where you are is home…”

At age fourteen, Zelda Rossi witnessed the unthinkable, and has spent the last ten years hardening her heart against the guilt and grief. She channels her pain into her art: a dystopian graphic novel where vigilantes travel back in time to stop heinous crimes—like child abduction—before they happen. Zelda pitches her graphic novel to several big-time comic book publishers in New York City, only to have her hopes crash and burn. Circumstances leave her stranded in an unfamiliar city, and in an embarrassing moment of weakness, she meets a guarded young man with a past he’d do anything to change…

Beckett Copeland spent two years in prison for armed robbery, and is now struggling to keep his head above water. A bike messenger by day, he speeds around New York City, riding fast and hard but going nowhere, his criminal record holding him back almost as much as the guilt of his crime.

Zelda and Beckett form a grudging alliance of survival, and in between their stubborn clash of wills, they slowly begin to provide each other with the warmth of forgiveness, healing, and maybe even love. But when Zelda and Beckett come face to face with their pasts, they must choose to hold on to the guilt and regret that bind them, or let go and open their hearts for a shot at happiness.

The Butterfly Project is a novel that reveals the power of forgiveness, and how even the smallest decisions of the heart can—like the flutter of a butterfly’s wings—create currents that strengthen into gale winds, altering the course of a life forever.

The Butterfly Project Excerpt:

“Why do you stay if it’s so hard to live here?” I asked.

Beckett took a drag from his cigarette, as if he were buying time before answering. “Brooklyn, born and raised,” he said finally, still not looking at me. “Where else would I go anyway? Different city, same struggle.” He finally brought his gaze to mine. “So you’re getting out?”

“On the bus, tomorrow,” I said. “I can’t stay. I was here for a job interview—sort of—and it fell through.”

“What was the job?”

“You’ll think it’s stupid.”

“Yeah, I probably will.” His smile was dry.

I laughed a little. “Smartass. I draw graphic novels.”

He stared at me blankly.

“Long-form comic books that tell one continuous story,” I said.

“Like The Walking Dead?”

“Exactly. I have one mocked up and I came here to pitch it to a few publishers. They all rejected me. Well, one half-rejected me, but it doesn’t matter. I can’t stay in the city long enough to make any changes, and I wouldn’t know what changes to make if I could.”

Beckett studied the cigarette between his fingers. “Why can’t you stay?”

“Where do I start?” I ground out my cigarette under my boot heel. “My poor planning? My dwindling funds? The fact I was robbed today? Or that I was naively hopeful the publishers would adore my work and sign me on the spot? Take your pick.”

Beckett shook his head, his mouth turned down in his grimace. “Wait, go back. You were robbed?”

I nodded and waved away the last of the smoke, wishing my failure could be as easily dissipated.

“I came here like a wide-eyed twit with a dream, and I crashed and burned.”

“You tried. That’s more than most people do.”

“Tried and failed.”

“So try again.”

“I wish,” I said, letting my gaze roam over the dingy back alley. “I feel like I’m so close to breaking through. That last publisher gave me some hope. If I could pull a few weeks out of my ass, I’d have a chance. But it’s impossible. I have to go back to Nevada.”

“You don’t have friends or family nearby?”

Yes, and only two hours by train.

“No,” I said, and decided I’d said enough to a total stranger. The last thing I needed was the terrible homesickness to well up again. I stood and brushed off the ass of my pants. “Anyway, it is what it is. Thanks for the smoke.”

“Were you hurt?”

I turned, glanced down at Beckett. “What?”

“You said you were robbed,” he said, his voice low, his eyes holding mine as if he were forcing himself to hear this. “Did they hurt you?”

“No, I… No. I wasn’t there. It was a break-in.”

He leaned against the wall and his sigh plumed out in front of him in the cold air. It sounded relieved. “I’m sorry, Zelda.”

I frowned. “Not your fault. Like I said, the city kicked my ass. The sooner I get the hell out of here, the better for  all involved.”

Beckett ground out his smoke and got to his feet. He was at least six-two, yet it didn’t feel imposing to stand in his shadow. It felt…

Safe. I feel safe with him.

“Do you know how to get back to wherever you’re staying?” he asked.

“The same way I got here, only in reverse,” I said, covering my unsettling thoughts with sarcasm.

Because that was safe for me.

6+++++ ~Second Chance~ Stars *******

I can never go wrong with an Emma Scott novel. I have been suffering from a very intense book hangover, but leave it to The Butterfly Project to pull me right out of my book funk after only reading a couple of pages. This novel felt like eighty-nine thousand words fluttering around my soul, making their way into my heart, and making it soar. An uplifting story about second chances that will give you all the feels, and then some…

Zelda Rossi is a very talented artist. She’s finally found the courage to leave her job and her friends in Vegas behind to pursue her dream to move to New York City and try to sell her graphic novel to a publishing house. After only a few days in the city, her experience hasn’t been the greatest, she got robbed and rejected by a few publishers, but there’s a tiny glimmer of hope inside all the disappointment, and after meeting Beckett Copeland she’s decided to try again and don’t give up on her dream, at least not without a fight.

Beckett Copeland didn’t have the best childhood growing up. Poor and without parents, he was raised by his grandfather, who later on got very sick, and Beckett got desperate into trying to provide for him. One night Beckett made a terrible mistake that now follows him, and it doesn’t matter what he does, the shadow of his transgression is always present, and leaving him with very few choices out of life.

Beckett and Zelda become roommates in an effort to help one another. Every night they talk and they get to know each other more, turning Beckett’s once cold and sterile apartment into a warm home, where memories and second chances will bloom. Bringing both Zelda and Beckett out of the darkness and into the light.

22052967-_sx540_

Just when they thought they didn’t deserve happiness, even when they believed with everything inside them that their past mistakes had forever ruined their lives, love comes in changing everything for Zelda and Beckett. The feelings that thread the pages of this book were beautiful and overwhelming. It will swallow you whole and leave you smiling, or perhaps with a few tears running down your cheeks.

Why do I always love reading an Emma Scott book? Because her stories always mean something important, they have great power. They somehow renew my faith in humanity, renew the faith of myself, they stay with me and always make me happy. Her books are a treasure, a beautiful gem that will shine brightly on the shelves of your library.

I will remember this book forever and will forever remember that everyone deserves a second chance…

*****FIVE+++++++++STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

She’s woven herself into my life, so tightly that if I cut those threads, I’ll unravel. The warmth will seep out, the light will dim until I’m nothing but dark.

tbp-teaser-escott

I’ve been dying to read one of Emma Scott’s books for quite some time now and I can say without a doubt that this woman has a truly rare gift for story-telling. I see what all the hype has been about! The Butterfly Project is a tale of two lost and broken souls who are brought to each other by fate, and who end up finding redemption through the love that develops between them. I was completely swept away by this book and felt like in no time at all I had gotten to the end and never once did I feel the need to skim because I wanted to absorb every single word!

Zelda Rossi is an aspiring artist and graphic novelist, who is in NYC trying to sell her series to a publishing company. Nearly every publishing house has turned her down except for one, who advises her to make some changes and to come back in a couple of months with her revised storyline. Zelda’s luck goes from bad to worse when her prized art supplies are stolen out of her room in a dilapidated hostel she was staying at. With this new setback, she has no choice but to get back on the next bus to Las Vegas and to put her dreams of getting her series published on hold. Luckily for her, fate steps in when she ends up meeting Beckett Copeland, a busboy at a restaurant she goes to have dinner at. Zelda suffers from PTSD which stems from a traumatizing childhood experience. It keeps her from being able to go back home to her family since that is where the incident took place and her panic attacks come on strong there. Zelda ends up needing to get some air and while in the alley behind the restaurant she and Beck strike up a conversation.

Beck Copeland has his own issues as well. One moment of poor judgement landed him in jail and with an enormous weight of guilt that he carries with him on a daily basis. But Beckett is an inherently good soul and something about Zelda calls to him. He feels this need to help and protect her. They end up becoming roommates in his tiny studio apartment in Brooklyn since he can barely cover the rent with the two jobs that he has and Zelda doesn’t have enough money to rent her own apartment.

Two strangers quickly become the best of friends and they even end up being the balm to soothe each other’s suffering from their tragic pasts. Zelda is bringing color back into Beck’s life and he is the only one who convinces her that she needs to keep fighting to accomplish her dreams. Beck has a calming effect on Zelda whenever she has an impending panic attack. He’s also become her muse and writing partner on her graphic novel series.

Zelda and Beck start to develop deeper feelings for each other and what was already a stunning story then became one of 2017’s best by far! I didn’t think that I could fall for Beck any harder but, oh yes, my heart was completely stolen by him! I was dying for the romance to spark and it was well worth the wait.

The Butterfly Project is one of those books that will leave you with a feeling of emptiness at the end because it is just so darn perfect that you never want it to be over. I think I may be ruined for all other books because nothing has come close to the perfection of this one. If you’ve never read anything by this amazing author, you need to make it a point to bump her up your TBR! I guarantee you that once you have read one of her stories that she will become an automatic must read for you!

Infinite Stars**********

(ARC kindly provided by Author in exchange for an honest review)

This story was beautiful and heartbreaking. It’s a book that starts with a lot of pain and ends with even more hope. You’ll feel, and live each word as if they were your own, making this duet simply magnificent…

20827662-_sy540_

I’m going to be honest here, I’m struggling trying to find the right words to review this book because I don’t want to give too much away for the sake of your enjoyment. If you read Full Tilt you know this second book is going to be heart-rending and stunning, but also so much more than you ever thought possible.

Theo and Kacey are struggling to cope with the loss that is eating away their hearts. One of them succumbs to the easy way out by hiding away in numbness, the other one ignores all feelings and personal needs and wants, putting everyone else’s first.

Every character in this book is dealing with the heartbreak in a different way, even you as a reader feel pain and confusion by the possibilities of moving on. There is a beautiful quote in the book by Rumi that goes: “Where there is ruin, there is hope for a treasure.” The meaning behind this beautiful quote is the heart of this book. I allowed the words, the pain, the hope, and the love to envelop me and take me on the beautiful journey that was the story of Theo and Kacey. And it’s my hope that everyone who reads this books can feel the same.

20827663-_sx540_

All In was magnificent, and I would recommend it to everyone. Don’t be afraid; read it, enjoy it, and let yourself feel the love and the music deep inside your heart.

I concentrated on the music, pretending to listen and resolutely not looking at Theo. But the damn music was bluesy, sexy… A slow burn of want and longing. It dialed into my already aching body, filling me with a need to be touched.

A shadow fell over me, and I looked up to see Theo standing, his hand outstretched.

“Dance with me.”

It wasn’t a request, and my traitorous body was already rising to its feet before I could think.

Theo took my hand in his and led me to the small dance floor, where a dozen other couples were swaying to the music. Some, driven by the sultry tones of the song and the singer’s smoky voice, were grinding their hips together, thighs intertwined.

Theo slung my arms around his neck, then put his hands on my hips, and began to move.

I’d never stood this close to Theo before. Our bodies pressed tight. Our faces so close, I could smell the sweet heat of his food, the bitterness of beer, the salt of his sweat. His heart beat thick against mine. The ragged exhale of his breath.

“You told me at the wedding you didn’t dance,” I said, every part of my body conscious of touching every part of his.

His mouth shaped the words, “I lied,” but no sound reached me over the music.

I could barely breathe. I was losing myself in him. Our eyes locked. I couldn’t look anywhere but at him. The light brown of his eyes fiery, like a shot of whiskey backlit by a white-hot flame. His hips ground a slow circle against mine, his thigh inching between my legs. One arm slid around my waist, the other came up the middle of my back, holding me close. My arms wound around his neck, my fingers burrowed into his damp hair.

“I like this,” he murmured. His whole body was flush against mine. I could feel its power, the strength of his muscles holding and moving me with the music. The hollow of his neck glistened. I felt my own sweat slide over my collarbone and between my breasts. My blood was on fire in a way that was entirely separate from the Louisiana summer. A heat Theo was building in me with every roll of his pelvis against mine. I felt the stiffness of his jeans against my skin as his hand slipped down to my ass, pressing me tighter against him. Grinding in a dance that felt more like…

Foreplay.

REVIEW – FULL TILT (Full Tilt, #1) by Emma Scott

emma-scott-full-tilt

SYNOPSIS:

“I would love you forever, if I only had the chance…”

Kacey Dawson has always lived life on the edge–impulsively, sometimes recklessly. And now, as lead guitarist for a hot up-and-coming band, she is poised at the brink of fame and fortune. But she is torn between wanting to be a serious musician, and the demons that lure her down the glittering, but alcohol-soaked path of rock stardom. A wrecked concert in Las Vegas threatens to ruin her career entirely. She wakes up with the hangover from hell and no memory of the night before, or how she ended up on her limo driver’s couch…

Jonah Fletcher is running out of time. He knows his situation is hopeless, and he’s vowed to make the most of the handful of months he has left to him. His plans include seeing the opening of his glass installation at a prestigious art gallery…they do not include falling in love with a wild, tempestuous rock musician who wound up passed out on his couch.

Jonah sees that Kacey is on a path to self-destruction. He lets her crash with him for a few days to dry out and get her head on straight. But neither of them expected the deep connection they felt, or how that connection could grow so fast from friendship into something more. Something deep and pure and life-changing…something as fragile as glass, that they both know will shatter in the end no matter how hard they try to hold on to it.

Full Tilt is a story about what it means to love with your whole heart, to sacrifice, to experience terrible grief and soaring joy. To live life with all its beauty, and all its pain, and in the end to be able to smile through tears and know you wouldn’t have changed a thing.

One Million Stars *******
(ARC provided by Netgalley)

A life changing read! I feel like this book was written out of a piece of my heart. The beauty that pours out of the pages of this novel took ownership of all my smiles, and all my tears. This book is an absolute MUST READ!!!!!!

19773870._SY540_

Kacey Dawson is a Rockstar on the cusp of stardom. Together with her band, they have been successfully selling records and performing non-stop all over the country. But Kacey’s heart feels empty, her loneliness is eating at her. Every night she tries to find purpose in the bottom of a bottle, and companionship in the arms of strange men, but in the light of day, her mistakes only add more weight to her already heavy heart.

Jonah Fletcher is just a guy with a borrowed heart. He is getting weaker by the day, but one thing he has is courage and he will be the one to come and save Kacey from drowning.

When Kacey meets Jonah, she knows him as simply the limo driver in charge of driving her around, but on a particularly bad night, this handsome man will change her world around forever.

Jonah doesn’t have a lot of time, all his focus and energy is devoted to finishing his glass installation. He has a perfectly crafted schedule that he follows every day to help him achieve his goal. He has been hiding under all that planning, and avoiding the darkness that’s been looming around him.

Kacey came into Jonah’s life like an unexpected burst of color. She’s making him feel again after being numbed for so long. The love between them was like an explosion that took down every wall they had built around their hearts, and giving them both the most beautiful gift of all…hope.

19773871._SY540_

I remember reading in the author’s note; Emma saying how this book was not what she had planned to write next, but that the story was just begging to be written. After reading it, I totally understand what she means by that, this is a story that demands and captures not only your attention but also your heart and soul. Jonah and Kacey grabbed onto me and I really doubt they’ll ever let me go.

The subject matter of this story could be considered as sad, but for me, it wasn’t. This book made me feel painfully happy. My emotions were bursting out of me. I wanted to scream, cry, dance and laugh like a mad woman. That is the power of a beautifully written story, you find yourself happily lost inside those pages, and after you are done reading, you know some part of you will never be the same.

I will forever be an Emma Scott fan, and this book is my absolute, most favorite EVER!!!!

Please read it, don’t miss out on the incredible beauty…
