4.5 Stars!

Emma Haskell is a beautiful 25 yr. old woman living in Houston, Texas. She works as an accountant for a nightclub called Players. Her boss is a man named Damien Larson. He also runs an illegal, underground poker room on the top floor of the club. Emma tends to be more of a strait-laced, rule follower, so she tries to just mind her own business, lay low, & just focus on doing her job that she’s paid very well for. She also tries to somewhat steer clear of her very gorgeous, tempting boss. Between his black moods & his striking appearance, she finds it hard to look him in the eye. She’s too affected when in his presence, & gets all flustered.

Damien Larson is the youngest of the Larson brothers. He had it rough growing up, & his past greatly shaped who he was today. Nobody in his life ever stuck around except for his brothers so he got used to keeping people at a distance. He was a complex person, & known for being cold, ruthless, controlled, & calculating. Since he grew up with nothing, he now lives a life of excess. He’s built the life he wanted, & tries to forget where he came from. He never let anyone get too close to him where they could ever have the power to hurt him.

Damien has always been attracted to his innocent, sweet, sexy accountant. He’s always wondered what it would be like to have her. One evening when her brother gets in over his head, an opportunity arises for Damien to fulfill his fantasies. He makes an indecent proposal & negotiates to have Emma no strings attached for thirty days.

Emma’s brother’s gambling has always been a problem for her family. He’s really in trouble this time. When her boss makes an offer to forgive his debts in exchange for Emma, she decides she can’t say no. She can handle her brother’s problem without her parents ever knowing.

-Damien Larson might very well be the hottest man alive.

-Her body was on fire. With one touch he’d stayed her worries and awakened the rest of her. She could only imagine what sex with this man would be like.

-He was making her want this.

-He was going to ruin her. Even knowing that, she couldn’t have stopped if she’d tried.

-She wanted him in every way she could have him.

-He was her fantasy.

Damien & Emma begin spending their time together. Emma is one of the best people he knows. She’s kind, & soon he feels like he’s drowning in her sweetness. She’s shining her light on all his dark places & soon he cherishes her. This man with walls around his heart is totally gone over her. His brothers both found love, but Damien never thought it was in the cards for him. Emma has made him question everything.

Emma began this arrangement ready to do her time, & be done. Now she’s thoroughly been seduced, & her need for this man is out of control. She aches for him & craves him more than anything. He’s sparked something in her that makes her feel alive. She’s confused because she almost feels like he’s hers.

I loved this book & this series so much! All these brothers are delicious & have such beautiful hearts. One of the best series I’ve read in a while. I adore these Larson brothers!

5 “All I Want Is You” Stars!

Rowan Dugas is a pregnant widow from New Orleans whose whole world recently fell apart when she lost her husband in an MMA fight. Since his death, she’s just been trying to function one day at a time but continues to feel completely broken and alone. She lost her parents years ago & the only family she has left now is her in-laws & her sister-in-law Savannah.

Savannah wants to cheer Rowan up & take her mind off reality, so she arranges for Rowan to attend a show and a meet & greet in Houston to see her favorite band August on Fire. Rowan has been obsessed with their music for years, & it’s helped get her through some of the hardest times in her life. It was like her own personal therapy. Growing up she also had a huge crush on the lead singer Zane Larson. He was her favorite singer ever, & starred in many of her fantasies. She never thought she’d actually meet him, & was shocked by how approachable & kind he is.

Zane Larson is a super hot rock star from Houston who spends his time making music, touring, and hanging out with his two brothers Mike & Damien. He’s the middle brother & the lead singer of a popular rock band. His older brother brings his girlfriends sister-in-law Rowan to one of his concerts & from the moment he first see’s her she is all he can think about. He wants to get to know her, show her some fun & make her smile. They become friends & begin talking on the phone. Soon Zane suggests they get together & offers to fly to New Orleans.

“The” Zane Larson wants to take her out, & Rowan accepts. She can’t figure out his interest in her, but she could definitely use a distraction, so if this gorgeous celebrity wants to take her on a date she’s game. She figures he must be taking her out cause he feels sorry for her, but she’s still excited to get out of the house and have a good time.

The more time Rowan spends with Zane, the lighter her spirit feels. He’s practically a stranger, but oddly his presence always felt comforting. She could talk to him about things she couldn’t with the other people in her life. When he’s around she can escape reality & she’s happy. She begins to feel a little guilty as her feelings grow for Zane. Her heart doesn’t hurt as bad when she’s with this beautiful man. She laughs, smiles and can just live in the moment. He makes her feel cherished & cared for. She doesn’t need any complications in her life right now as a mother to be, but she doesn’t know how she can ever give him up.

Zane is completely enchanted with Rowan. He absolutely adores her & wants to be with her. Their timing is awful, but you can’t pick when you fall in love.

I loved this book so much! Sexy rock star Zane Larson finds the love of his life in Rowan Dugas. The situation isn’t ideal, but he goes for it anyway. He wants her to be his & fights for his place in her heart. This story was beautiful & this man totally stole my heart. He was so tender & swoon worthy with a heart of gold. Then you throw in the whole rock star aspect and I was a goner. I’m completely obsessed with these Larson brothers! Bring on Damien next!!! ;))

WRAPPED UP IN READING’s REVIEW OF RAW NEED

Excerpt: Raw Need by Cherrie Lynn

Zane took her hand and helped her from the car after opening her door. He’d done that all night, and while she hadn’t needed it, she found she loved it. He didn’t let her go even as they strolled up the walkway to her front door, pausing on her front porch. She missed the warmth of his hand immediately when she had to dig her keys from her purse.

Except for hugs from family and friends, it had been a while since anyone touched her. Until tonight.

It had been much longer since anyone had awoken the kind of feelings she was experiencing right now, the zinging along her nerve endings, the weakness in the fronts of her thighs that she suspected had nothing to do with emotion and everything to do with him.

It’s okay, she thought, desperate to keep her eyes down on her task of digging in her purse though her keys were right there in sight, glinting under her porch light. He’s my fucking celebrity crush, of course I’m going to respond. It doesn’t mean anything.

“I want to kiss you,” he said, and she sucked in a breath and looked up at him in astonishment, keys forgotten. He was so close, so beautiful, something that could have formed from the surrounding shadows to steal her heart away. “But I won’t.” Even as reason coupled with disappointment flooded her, her involuntary reaction was to wet her lips. She could swear he noticed the response; his eyes darkened. “Unless you want me to.”

She did. God help her, she did. But . . . “It can’t mean anything,” she whispered.

“It doesn’t have to.”

She could do that, right? Just a kiss. A onetime, once-in-a-lifetime kiss. Maybe she was wrong and the chemistry wouldn’t be there. She would know it once and for all, no wondering “what if” after he went back home, no staying up nights imagining what he tasted like, knowing she’d had her chance to find out and refused it. “Okay,” she said, but since she figured he could barely hear her trembling voice, she nodded as well.

He stepped in. Rowan nearly jumped when the tips of his fingers tilted her chin up to receive him; he touched her nowhere else. At least not until he leaned forward, nestling his nose next to hers as his lips caught hers gently, sweetly. A shiver worked along her spine, raising the hair at her nape.

So much for no chemistry.

She wanted to open, to invite him deeper, but even as his fingertips slid toward her ear until he cupped her jaw in his palm, he only teased at her lips with his own. A touch, a brush. The sweetness of their shared dessert a ghost on his breath, he didn’t quest for any sort of entry, so careful not to do so that something broke in her weakly thudding heart, flooding her with heat.

Oh, fuck.

“His other hand grasped the doorframe beside her head; his beard tickled her delicate skin. Rowan’s hands ached to crawl up his body, but she clenched them tightly at her sides against the need, her nails biting crescent moons into her palms. This, just this. It was all she had to give right now.

Zane pulled away only slightly, his warm breath soft against her tingling lips. He’d barely touched her, barely even given her that taste of him. She wanted more, longed to drag him to her and take it, but when he stepped back, she had to let him. The tip of his thumb traced the line of her jaw all the way to her chin as he drew his hand away.

Savannah Dugas is a 27 yr. old woman who lives in the French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her whole family is devastated when her big brother Tommy is suddenly killed in a cage fight after a punch to the head. As a competitive MMA fighter, Tommy trained for the fight that could make his career, but instead it ended his life & left his wife a widow.

Michael Larson is an MMA fighter from Houston, Texas. He’s worked hard to make a name for himself in the MMA cage. Fighting had been his salvation & his sanctuary. It had saved him years ago and now it felt like his damnation & his own personal hell after his recent opponent died in the ring because of him. Mike feels responsible for destroying the Dugas family & wants to ease their pain. He’s so sorry & vows to himself to somehow make things right. He decides to attend the funeral & pay his respects.

Savannah is stunned to see Mike Larson at her brother’s funeral. He looks so broken, she agrees to speak with him. She can tell he’s seeking forgiveness & desperate to make things better. Mike is nothing like Savannah expected him to be. He has this tough persona on T.V., but in person, he’s kind and sincere. She has trouble dealing with her grief & anger and facing the man that is the source of her pain.

Mike continues to reach out to Savannah. He’s so torn up about what happened with Tommy, and she was the only one willing to listen to him & hear him out. Savannah finds herself drawn to Mike. She knows it’s probably wrong & her family wouldn’t approve, but he’s there for her. He becomes her safe place & where she finds comfort. Over time she can’t fight the way her body craves him or how her heart beats only for him. He becomes her solace & helps her heal with his love.

-She’d never felt so deliciously weak, so shaken to her core from a kiss.

-He possessed her. Fingers in her hair, holding her fast while his mouth devoured hers.

-“I want this.”

-“I want you.”

Mike’s thought about retiring, but fighting has always been everything he’s about. How do you give up the one thing that makes you who you are? The thing that keeps you sane. Can Savannah be with Mike if he decides to keep fighting? She’s scared of losing him the way she lost her brother. Can she risk going through that kind of loss again?

I really loved this book! It was so damn hot! I adored Mike & I can’t wait for the other Larson brother’s books! I’m dying for rock star Zane Larson’s book! I need more of these delicious brothers!

-It was everything. Everything she’d been looking for.

-She’d been in the arms of the man the world thought she should hate. But she loved him.

EXCERPT

She lifted her head to look up at him, horrified by his story. “The first day we met, Michael, you told me you were a horrible person. I’m confused. The person you’re describing is not that, not at all. The person who arranged this trip so Rowan and I can feel better is not that.”

Even in the darkness, she could see the cold void in his eyes, as if he were looking at something terrible that only he could see. “Bad shit follows me, Savannah. It just does. I don’t know if I’m working off some kind of karma or what. It never ends.”

“That can’t be true,” she protested. “I accept that Tommy was an accident. My family probably never will, but that’s how they are. It’s no reflection on you because the way they feel is based on a lie.”

“Tommy isn’t the only one.”

Those words affected her like ghostly fingertips up her spine. “Who?” she asked softly.

“When I was a kid, my mother had a new man every month, and none of them except for one or two were worth a shit. The ones who were decent didn’t last long, because they couldn’t deal with her issues. But it seemed the worse they were, the longer they were around. Some of them were straight-up predators. I was a kid and I saw these things; she was an adult and she didn’t, or else she didn’t care.”

Savannah didn’t need to hear any more. She didn’t think she could. “Anything you did in defense of your family was completely understandable.”

“Is it?” he asked, searching her eyes. “Why does it still follow me?”

“Maybe because you let it?”

“Believe me, if I could shake it, I would.”

“I know. Easier said than done. Probably the worst thing I’ve ever done is shoplift a box of condoms; I’m not one to give advice.”

He blinked at her and then, amazingly, burst out laughing. The shock of it stunned her, but after a moment of embarrassed silence—had she really just told him that?—she couldn’t help but join in. My, but he was gorgeous when he laughed. “Well! I didn’t want the lady at the checkout counter to know I was going to have sex. Turns out I didn’t anyway. What a jackass that guy turned out to be.” Actually, the damn things expired before she could ever use even one of them, but he didn’t have to know that. “To think I risked a misdemeanor over him.”

“I needed that,” Mike said once he’d caught his breath. “But don’t hold it against me that I’m glad you sent the jackass packing.”

“Oh, I’m glad too. I should have made him get the damn condoms.”

Easily, naturally, Mike’s hands found hers again, both of them. This time his fingers laced through hers, sending a nice shivery sensation through her. The slightly uncomfortable girth of his fingers between hers had her thoughts running wild with imagining the girth of other areas of his body. “You’re something else,” he said.

“But you don’t know what, right?” she teased.

“No,” he admitted, shaking his head a little dazedly. “I don’t know what. Yet.”

“Same here.” Oh God, was he leaning closer? She felt dizzy looking up at him with the stars all around his head, like they revolved around him. A small wave washed up around her feet, cool and fleeting. Simple as that wave that touched her, his lips touched hers, then drew back. Simple, but enormous. Savannah shivered, drinking in his breath, off balance and whirling though she stood perfectly still, held to earth by nothing but his hands holding hers.

More. Please. She tried to tell him without saying a word, looking into his eyes, seeing the raw need there. And he came back to her, his mouth opening against hers now to invite a deeper contact. The wind whipped wildly around them and she let him in, let his tongue tease inside her mouth and coax hers out to play. His thumbs drew lazy circles on her palms, drawing desire from a wellspring inside her that had been dry for so long now—

“Mike!” a shout came, borne on the wind. It jolted them apart, Savannah blushing and trying to tame her hair into something that looked like it was attached to her head, Mike straightening his shirt.

Q&A WITH CHERRIE LYNN

  1. How would you describe Raw Deal using no more than 140 characters (a la Twitter)?

Undeniable passion ignites between a fighter and the heartbroken sister of the man he accidentally killed in the MMA cage.

  1. Which scene would you say was the hardest for you to write?

Definitely the final fight. Any time I write something action-heavy, which isn’t very often (unless it’s sex, haha), I find it terribly difficult and tedious. “This happened and that happened and so on.” And then to take it and make sure it doesn’t look like I found it difficult and tedious presents its own set of challenges. I can only hope I pulled it off, because I’m a terrible judge of my own work.

  1. Where do you get inspiration for the names of your characters?

Michael’s and Savannah’s names simply came into my head and felt right. A lot of times, however, I torture myself trying to find the perfect character name, poring through baby name websites for inspiration. Some characters are named by accident. For instance, when I first introduced Brian Ross in Unleashed, I never planned for him to have his own book. So I just sort of stuck a name on him. But he turned out to be one of my most popular heroes (Rock Me), and same goes for his best friend Ghost (Leave Me Breathless). So, some come easily, some are like pulling teeth, and some are happy accidents. 🙂

  1. You’re known for creating characters with a lot of depth and a full range of truly human emotions. What experiences do you draw on to make your characters feel so alive?

Oh, so many. But I don’t think my experiences are so different from most other people’s. We’ve all been heartbroken. We’ve all felt loss. We’ve all felt joy. I just take those feelings and channel them as best as I can. I also listen when other people talk about their own feelings and experiences that might be different from mine, and I listen to a lot of highly emotional music. But there are things in my books that are drawn from personal experiences. The eagle in Raw Deal, for example, was taken from something similar that happened at my grandfather’s funeral a couple of years ago. I like to think whenever I see an eagle now, it’s my grandpa saying hello.

  1. What do you love most about Mike and Savannah?

I love Mike’s fierce loyalty. I love Savannah’s mostly level-headed approach, the way she’s able to give him a chance despite her emotions and her heartbreak. I love the comfort they find in each other. They were very easy characters to write. I’m not sure if that’s because I was coming off my Ross Siblings series and invigorated by starting something brand new, or if they simply resonated deeply with me (a little of both, I suspect), but I *loved* writing their story. They still give me butterflies!

  1. How much research did you have to do on MMA for the book? Are you a fan of the sport?

I am! But my husband is an even bigger fan. He was a great source of information, and I probably pestered him to death. I looked up so much equipment on Amazon that I kept getting ads for weeks—they obviously thought I was a fighter. I watched fights on YouTube and I read articles. And although they’re about boxing and not MMA, I’m a HUGE fan of the Rocky movies. I figured the passion, motivation, hunger and discipline would be the same for a fighter of either sport, so I drew a lot of inspiration from that. And yes, a couple of Rocky references pop up in the book! I couldn’t resist.

  1. Did you always want to be a writer?

For as long as I can remember. As far back as third grade, you could find me writing stories that my teachers would have me read to my class. Everyone thought I was a little weird, I think. As I grew up, I wrote stories for fun and for my friends. Almost all of those involved a romance, and this trend continued as I would sneak into my mom’s stash of steamy romance novels for inspiration. 🙂 I sought publication as far back as 2000, but that didn’t work out. It wasn’t until 2008 that I tried again with what would become my first published book. It’s been an amazing, lifelong journey!

  1. Who are some of your favorite writers/writers that inspire you?

I read all over the place. Right now, I’m loving Alessandra Torre. She’s amazing. I’m also so obsessed with the A Song of Ice and Fire series that I’ve been reading them on repeat for two years now. I finish, I start over. Such incredibly rich and effortless world-building. (Hurry up with Winds of Winter, George!) I’m also loving Sarah J. Maas. For my horror needs, I read Stephen King and Joe Hill. I must admit, the idea of a straight-up horror romance intrigues me…
