REVIEW – HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS by R.S. Grey

SYNOPSIS

I’ve spent eight years wishing I’d fall out of love with Derek Knightley. Blowing out birthday candles, chasing after shooting stars, making it rain spare change into mall fountains—every time it’s the same wish: forget about Derek.

But the day he walks back into my life, I realize there are two things time has yet to soften: my feelings for him and his chiseled jawline.

It’s infuriating that my heart still races when he walks into a room. I refuse to fall prey to old unrequited love, so I decide the less I’m around him, the better. Avoidance is key.

Unfortunately, Derek isn’t going to make it easy. As a teenager, I would have crawled on my hands and knees to attract his attention. Now I can’t seem to escape it.

I’m not sure why he’s bothering. He’s not just out of my league—he’s out of my tax bracket. As the sole heir to the Knightley Company, he’s as close to American royalty as you can get. As for me, I’m just a part-time princess at Knightley’s flagship magical theme park.

I spend my days playing make-believe, but Derek has no use for fairytales. His unwavering confidence makes it clear he thinks I’ll surrender in the end.

He’s just biding his time.
Making me sweat.

His Royal Highness always gets what he wants.
And he wants me.

I don’t know how a soul finds its mate, why it seemed like mind had latched onto someone who was the least logical choice. All I know is it’s been eight years and I’m still not over my silly crush on Derek Knightley.

HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS is a sweet and laugh-out-loud hilarious romantic comedy about a beautiful woman with a quirky personality and her teenaged crush coming back into her life after an eight-year absence. Whitney Atwood works at a fantasy-themed amusement park where she plays the role of Princess Elena who is adored by the thousands of children who come to visit. She’s sweet and somewhat awkward and even though she has blossomed into a beautiful woman, she still sees herself as the shy and nerdy eighteen-year-old that she was eight years ago when she started working at Fairytale Kingdom. She’s lived the life of a true Cinderella, always overshadowed by her older sister who received most of the love and attention from their parents, but her friends at the amusement park have become her adopted family.

Whitney’s teenaged crush and mentor, Derek Knightley returns home after having been in London for the past eight years. She realizes that the time apart has not diminished her crush nor her hurt feelings of how he left things between them. When she was eighteen, Derek only saw her as an awkward teenager. He never looked at her the way he is now. He’s completely enraptured by her, but Whitney isn’t about to put her heart out there again and it will take extreme efforts by Derek and a well-meaning matchmaker to get these two to admit to their true feelings.

REVIEW – THE LONELY ORPHAN (Lost Planet, #5) by K. Webster & Nicole Blanchard

SYNOPSIS

Our planet has hope.
Still decaying and barely inhabitable, but ours.
With the arrival of the females, we’re no longer lonely.

Well, some of us aren’t.

For the rest, we ache for what they have.
Peace. Happiness. Love.
But where the other unmatched Morts want a mate to call their own, I’m different.

Life cruelly made me fall for the one person I’m not allowed to have.
Bitterness and jealousy are my mates now.
I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I will always be alone.

Until my commander sends me on a mission to rescue someone very important to his mate—her sister.
A woman so different. So imperfect. So maddeningly defiant. Someone I have no interest in whatsoever.

This feral female will never own my heart.
Or so I thought.
Love always has a plan of its own.

I open my eyes and pull away to look at her. Her face tells me everything she won’t. All her truths written so plainly on her telling features. This is so much more than nothing. It feels like the beginning of something with a promise of everything.

I have enjoyed every single installment of K. Webster’s & Nicole Blanchard’s ”Lost Planet” series. These stories are thoroughly entertaining. Each alien Hero will have you laughing and swooning in equal measure. Morts are wildly romantic and 100% devoted to their lady loves. When the series began, there were only five human females that were recovered from an abandoned spaceship, but now, Hadrian and Theron have come across that lost ship once again, and it looks like every Mort may get the chance to find their soul mate.

”THE LONELY ORPHAN” is Hadrian and Lyric’s story. These two get off to a rocky start but when they go out on a dangerous mission together, a near-death experience creates an overpowering bond between them. Hadrian and Lyric fall hard and fast for each other. Will an outbreak of the Rades on Exilium end up taking another loved one away from Hadrian?

REVIEW – INSATIABLE (Cloverleigh Farms, #3) by Melanie Harlow

SYNOPSIS

Insatiable, an all-new fun and flirty friends to lovers romance from USA Today bestselling author Melanie Harlow is available now!

I didn’t mean to see him naked–it was an accident.

It had to be, right?

Because Noah McCormick and I have never been anything more than friends. In all the years I’ve known him, he’s never once laid a finger on me. And even though he was a cute lifeguard at 16 and a hotter-than-hell sheriff’s deputy at 34, he’s always been that protective guy I could trust to keep his hands to himself. I never wanted to mess with that.

Until I walked in on him getting out of the shower and saw his hard, muscular body totally bare and dripping wet. At that moment I never wanted to mess with anything so badly in my entire life.

I should have covered my eyes. Said I was sorry. At the very least, I could have handed him a towel.

After all, I was only in town for a few days, and he was just doing me a favor by escorting me to my sister’s wedding. It wasn’t a real date.

But I didn’t apologize. And he didn’t cover up.

(Talk about a hot mess.)

After all those years of being just friends, suddenly we’re insatiable.

He’s made it clear he’s not interested in romance. Which is fine with me because

I’ve got a plane ticket back to my real life at the end of the week.

It’s all in fun…or is it?

”My entire life, I’ve been waiting to fall in love like this, and now that I have, I’m even more alone than I was before.”

WOW! I can’t even begin to describe just how much I loved this book. I started to fear that maybe there was no topping the first installment, but now I’m going to have to say that Noah and Meg’s story is my favorite in the ”Cloverleigh Series”. I just love me a good friends-to-lovers romance. There’s just something extra special about a love affair that sparks from a close friendship.

Meg and Noah have been best friends since high school, and over the years life took them in different directions but no matter how long they go without seeing each other, their bond had never wavered. Neither has had the best of luck in the love department and after yet another failed relationship, Meg returns home to seek love and comfort from her family and best friend Noah. From the moment these two reunite there is no denying the sexual tension that lays so close to the surface between them. It is almost a foregone conclusion that they’re going to give in to the temptation.

These two put me through an emotional roller coaster. I wanted them to get their act together and figure out that they’d wasted so many years staying in the friend zone when it was obvious from the start, they were simply meant to be true soulmates. Meg is an endearing heroine who is sure to make you shed some tears and Noah is one heck of a swoon-worthy hero. He was the source of most of the crazy angst, but I promise you won’t be able to do anything but love him and hope that he gets his act together before it’s too late.

REVIEW – DIRTY LETTERS by Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland

SYNOPSIS

From New York Times bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward comes an unexpected love story that starts long before the lovers meet.

I’d never forgotten him—a man I’d yet to meet.

Griffin Quinn was my childhood pen pal, the British boy who couldn’t have been more different from me. Over the years, through hundreds of letters, we became best friends, sharing our deepest, darkest secrets and forming a connection I never thought could break.

Until one day it did.

Then, out of the blue, a new letter arrived. A scathing one—one with eight years of pent-up anger. I had no choice but to finally come clean as to why I stopped writing.

Griffin forgave me, and somehow we were able to rekindle our childhood connection. Only now we were adults, and that connection had grown to a spark. Our letters quickly went from fun to flirty to downright dirty, revealing our wildest fantasies. So it only made sense that we would take our relationship to the next level and see each other in person.

Only Griff didn’t want to meet. He asked that I trust him and said it was for the best. But I wanted more—more Griff, in the flesh—so I took a big chance and went looking for him. People have done crazier things for love.

But what I found could change everything.

”We all have light and dark inside us, love. We try to hide the darkness from others because we’re afraid it will scare them away. But your dark doesn’t scare me, Luca. It only makes me want to hold your hand and be your light until you can find your own again. That’s what people do when they’re in love. I won’t always be able to give you your light back, because sometimes you need to find that within yourself, but I’ll stand by your side and hold your hand in the dark so things aren’t so scary.”

This book is EVERYTHING that is truly amazing about the writing duo of Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland. “DIRTY LETTERS” is going down as my absolute TOP FAVORITE by these two incredible authors. It had so many things that I love in a good romance– friends-to-lovers trope, a gorgeous British Rock God as the Hero, and some gut-wrenching angst. Griffin Marchese has all of the traits to make him one of the most unforgettable and beloved book boyfriends. I instantly fell so hard for this beautiful character.

”DIRTY LETTERS” is a true page-turner! It’s one of those books that you will want to immerse yourself in without any interruptions. I am not exaggerating when I say it’s unputdownable!! Griffin and Luca’s story is so heartachingly beautiful and at times agonizingly angsty but it was so worth the pain!! I loved that they started off as childhood penpals and later became true soul mates.

REVIEW – LEAVE ME BREATHLESS bu Jodi Ellen Malpas

SYNOPSIS

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the This Man series comes a sexy and emotional follow up to her wildly popular standalone romance The Protector.

Ryan Willis has spent years in the protection business, a job that requires constant vigilance and quick thinking. His only chance to truly relax is at his secluded cabin in a small town where there are never any surprises. So when Ryan returns after an assignment and encounters a beautiful stranger, he isn’t only surprised, he’s also instantly intrigued.

Hannah Bright is a breath of fresh air, and Ryan is soon completely consumed, unable to stop from falling for her. As the two grow closer, his instinct tells him something is amiss. Yet nothing could prepare him for what he discovers when he starts digging into her past.

Hannah spends her days painting, running her arts and crafts store…and hiding too many secrets. It’s why she won’t let the ruggedly handsome bodyguard get too close. But their chemistry is undeniable, and Hannah quickly finds herself caught up in a whirlwind romance with Ryan. He is peace personified, a balm to her battered soul. Yet the gorgeous, captivating man who has swept Hannah off her feet doesn’t even know who she really is. And the moment he finds out, both their lives are at risk.

I move in close behind him, my attention dancing across the beads of water on his skin that are sparkling like crystals when the fading light hits them. And still, he remains motionless, waiting for me, patient. Quiet. He calls to me without a word. And I admit to myself for the first time, I’m desperate to stay here. With him. Forever.

”LEAVE ME BREATHLESS” is a spin-off of ”The Protector”. The Hero, Ryan Willis, is ex MI5 and close friends with Jake Sharp. I liked this book so much more than its predecessor. The pace of the story flowed perfectly and I felt a connection to the main characters. Ryan and Hannah had insane chemistry. While the story reminded me so much of the movie, ”Sleeping With The Enemy”, I can’t deny that I was thoroughly entertained. There was plenty of JEM’s signature steam with a healthy dose of nail-biting action thrown in as well.

REVIEW – TACKER (Arizona Vengeance, #5) by Sawyer Bennett

SYNOPSIS

I am not okay.

Fifteen months ago, my life was turned upside down when the plane I was piloting went down. Injured and trapped in the wreckage, I had to watch my fiancée die a painfully slow death, which is something that can really mess with your head.

Since that day, I’ve had little desire to do much of anything. Except play hockey, that is. Because that is the one place where the bad memories are banished and I can escape my pain.

But off the ice, I’m spiraling out of control. Losing the grip on my life and putting myself and my career in danger. Now, thanks to a string of bad decisions, I’ve been ordered to complete therapy in order to stay on the team.

The problem? Nora Wayne, my beautiful and somewhat unconventional therapist. I can’t buy into the brand of happy clappy crap this woman is feeding me. What could she possibly understand about the type of loss that I’ve suffered? How does she know anything about finding happiness after losing the most important person in your life?

Turns out, I’ve got a lot to learn, and she’s just the person I need to break through those walls I’ve erected.

I am not okay.
But for the first time in a long time, I know that I will be.

”She turned on a fucking light in my darkroom. She’s the one who flipped the switch.”

It feels like it’s been an eternity’s worth of waiting to finally get Tacker Hall’s story. He’s the one Arizona Vengeance player that has intrigued me from the start. His life was turned upside down when he lost his beautiful fiancé in a plane crash. He was the pilot! In Tacker’s book, we learn just how deeply tortured he is and we finally find out what happened on that fateful night. No one has been able to break through his walls he put up and Tacker nearly ended it all during a drunk driving incident. Now he’s forced to seek therapy or be kicked off the team. Nora Wayne is a psychologist who uses unique therapy methods to help her patients. She’s the perfect therapist for Tacker because she too has suffered tremendous loss through nightmarish circumstances.

Tacker and Nora make the perfect couple and you can’t help but hope they have the happily ever after they both deserve. Their stories are equally horrific and heartbreaking. While I loved the characters, I felt like something was missing. The anticipation had built so much to get to Tacker’s story that I think my expectations were set too high. There was little angst which I’m used to getting in these books, and maybe that was missing because these two characters had suffered enough in their short lifetime. Overall, it was a very sweet and touching romance. Tacker and Nora’s story will touch your hearts!

REVIEW – AND I LOVE HER (Bliss Cove, #2) by Nina Lindsey

SYNOPSIS

An expert on the hot, wild tales of mythology, Callie Prescott leads a tidy life. And that, thank you, is exactly how she wants it, despite her family’s pestering that she’s a control freak who needs to have fun. Callie prefers order and predictability. After her father’s death and her mother’s recent health scare, who can blame her?

Jake Ryan fights bad guys, jumps out of airplanes, and escapes disasters…on film. But when a scandal engulfs his career, he takes cover in his hometown of Bliss Cove while he puts out the fire. No one knows his true identity until a chance encounter with Callie ignites powerful flashbacks of their high-school years together.

Despite the threat of exposure, Jake wants some close-up action with the brilliant, beautiful professor. Callie’s structured life has no room for a sexy, muscular hero…until Jake shows her how thrilling it is to have fun and lose control (a little).

Jake and Callie surrender to a hot affair and the possibility of love. But with dangerous secrets, a public scandal, and a mother’s scheming plots, can Jake ever win the starring role in his leading lady’s heart?

He’d never expected to find someone like her anywhere, much less during his exile in Bliss Cove. God knew he hadn’t imagined that smart girl Callie from high school would come back into his life with the power of an earthquake and shake up his very foundation, in the best possible way.

”AND I LOVE HER” brings us back to the beautiful Northern California coastal town of Bliss Cove. This is the eldest Prescott sister’s turn at romance and it’s with her old high school crush turned multi-million dollar Hollywood action star, Jake Ryan. This was an opposites-attract romance with a light dose of steam and angst. Callie is a Greek mythology professor at the local university, whose entire life revolves around her career and her family. She can be overbearing and a bit smothering when it comes to her mother and two sisters, but her heart is in the right place. Callie doesn’t have time for a personal life but deep down she’s dreamed of finding her one true love and having the relationship that her parents had.

Jake is in Bliss Cove on a hiatus from his fast-paced Hollywood life. Love is the last thing he expected to find in his old hometown, but the more he gets to know Callie, he finds himself falling fast. She makes him see that there’s more to life than just being an Oscar award-winning actor, and Jake is having just as much of an impact on Callie. He brings color and excitement into her world. Callie realizes that she hasn’t truly lived until Jake came along and encouraged her to step outside of her comfort zone. They’re perfect for each other. But there are huge obstacles and a little secret that have the potential to tear the couple apart.

REVIEW – LANDON & SHAY: PART ONE by Brittainy C. Cherry

SYNOPSIS

Shay Gable hated my guts, and I hated hers, too.

We went out of our way to avoid one another at all times. When she came my direction, I went the other. When we locked eyes, she’d turn and walk away.

All of that changed the day I was presented with a challenge. It started out as a stupid bet: make Shay fall in love with me before I fell in love with her first.

That was an easy bet for me to win.
I didn’t love, I hardly liked.

Yet slowly the game started to shift. Shay made me crave things I never knew I wanted.
Love.
Happiness.
Her.

The closer we grew, the more she challenged my darkness, and the parts I kept locked away.
The hurts.
The pains.
The truth.

The game between us became too real, our feelings intermixed, and the risks of hurting one another grew higher.

But you know what they say…
All’s fair in the game of love and war—especially the heartbreaks.

STUNNING!!! Brittainy C Cherry has once again blown my mind with another one of her beautifully written stories. I am not the least bit surprised that I fell so incredibly hard for ”LANDON & SHAY” This ”enemies-to-lovers” romance was so emotionally charged and the characters left a huge imprint on my heart. The subject matter might be hard for some readers to handle but this is a story that must be read by all. There’s a beautiful message written with the exquisite words of the author. I felt as if almost every passage was important and so I ended up highlighting the majority of this book. There is no doubt in my mind that readers are going to fall just as madly in love with this story as I have. Landon Harrison and Shay Gable are two characters who are going to stay in my heart and mind for a very long time to come. While the book does end at a pivotal moment in the characters’ lives, it felt more like a ”to be continued….”. rather than a huge cliffy. I can’t wait to get my hands on PART TWO!!!
