Black Hearts is a BRAND NEW STANDALONE DUET – the second book and conclusion, Dirty Souls, releases March 17th.

For Vicente Bernal, truth is all he’s known. The son of an infamous drug lord, Vicente was born to help run the family business, which means he’s been raised on a throne of sordid pasts and dirty laundry, violence and pride. But when Vicente stumbles across someone he’s not supposed to know about – a woman from his father’s checkered past – he sets out to California to find her behind his father’s back.

What Vicente doesn’t expect to find in San Francisco is Violet McQueen, the woman’s twenty-year old daughter. Beautiful and edgy with a vulnerability he can’t resist, Violet tempts Vicente from afar and though he promised himself he’d stay away from her, curiosity and lust are powerful forces. Besides, Vicente has always gotten everything he wants – why shouldn’t he have Violet too?

Soon his wants turn into an obsession, one that sweeps Violet into his games as they fall madly, deeply in love with each other, the type of first love that can drive a person mad.

But it’s a love with tragic consequences.

Both the truth – and the lies – not only threaten to tear them apart, but threaten their very lives.

Someone has to pay for the sins of the fathers.

And they’ll be paying the price with their souls.

Vincente Bernal grew up in Mexico as the prodigal son of a drug lord. He was raised to one day take over the cartel & had everything he wants in life except freedom. He grew up sheltered & often isolated for his safety in a world full of power, respect, and money. He was born to follow in his father’s footsteps, & lost his innocence at a young age.

Vincente learns about a mystery woman from his father’s past & wants to learn more about the man his father used to be. He wanted proof that his father once had a soul. He convinces his parents to allow him to travel to America for the next couple months. He steps foot in San Francisco, California & feels like he can finally breathe.

Vincente has a plan that goes off track when he meets the daughter of the woman he’s come to see. He then wonders if the daughter could be his way to get close to the mother. The problem is he wasn’t prepared for the beautiful, intriguing Violet McQueen. She’s kind, sensitive, vulnerable & has an innocence about her. She also has a bit of an edge to her & there’s something about her he’s drawn to.

Violet McQueen meets a gorgeous, Hispanic man with amber eyes. He’s absolutely stunning and she instantly wants him. He’s sensual, sexy, & everything she isn’t. He’s strong, confident, and once he touches her, she’s done for. She is addicted to him. He’s wild, adventurous & sets her body on fire. He makes her feel alive & finally understood. She’s completely consumed by him and in the moment when they’re together.

22016863-_sy540_

Violet soon starts to realize her parents aren’t who she thinks they are. Things have seemed off lately & she begins to feel she was raised in a house of lies. The only person that she feels safe with is Vincente. He just gets her.

Violet was never part of the plan. Vincente is feeling things for her that scare him, and complicate everything. He was trained & raised to take over the family business & taught love is a weakness, but he can’t control how his heart feels every time he’s with Violet. He considers Violet his & he has no plans of letting her go.

-She’s the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen. To stare at her from afar is one thing. To see her up close is another.

-She’s learning what she wants. And what she wants is me.

-I’m angry. I’m so fucking angry that my heart feels something for her. That she’s getting under my skin. That she’s making me question who I am.

-The hold he has on me is only growing stronger. I can’t get enough of him. He occupies my thoughts, my body, my heartbeat.

-Vincente’s mouth against mine is a lungful of oxygen, his body a life raft.

If you’ve read the Artist’s Trilogy or the Dirty Angels series by Karina Halle you will be familiar with these characters, but this book is a spinoff & can totally be read as a stand alone. It’s the children of Javier & Luisa Bernal and Camden & Ellie McQueen. Black Hearts is the first book in the duet. The second book Dirty Souls releases March 17th & will complete the story.

I LOVED this book! Like father like son, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Vincente is gorgeous, sinfully sexual & skilled in the bedroom, but also can be twisted like dear old dad. What I adored about Vincente that I felt made him stand out is his heart. I feel he will choose love in the end. This book had action, excitement, and love, & was sexy as hell! I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

I was thoroughly fucked by Vicente.
Over and over and over again.
In a way I never imagined.
He made me step away from myself. He pulled me out of that prison. He opened my eyes to a reality I didn’t think I could be a part of.
He made my weaknesses my strengths.
He made it raw and beautiful.

BLACK HEARTS is a spin-off of The Artist Trilogy and Dirty Angels series but can definitely be read as a standalone. The main characters in this story are the offspring of the characters from the Karina Halle’s previous two series. This one is filled with a ton action, suspense and hotter than heck STEAM!! I read ”On Every Street” and “Sins and Needles” and was definitely on TEAM CAM, but there’s a new man in town and he completely stole my heart. Get ready to meet the sexy bad ass Hero with an edgy dark side—Vicente Bernal!!

Vicente is in San Francisco on a supposed vacation but he has a secret agenda, find the woman who is the only person to ever one-up his father, Javier Bernal. His plan is to either capture and bring Ellie Watt back to his father as a prize or to pick her brain to hopefully reveal some of Javier’s secrets which would help him in taking over as head of their drug cartel. But when he lays eyes on Violet McQueen, all bets are off.

Violet is the daughter of Camden and Ellie. She is a very sensitive young woman who tends to keep her inner turmoil hidden from most of her loved ones. Vicente grasps at an opportunity to meet her when he follows Violet after she leaves her photography class at the university she attends. Pretending to be interested in signing up for her class, he is able to strike up a conversation with Violet. She is instantly intrigued by the sexy stranger and agrees to go out for coffee with him. Soon enough these two end up getting entangled in one seriously steamy affair.

Vicente gets Violet to step out of her comfort zone and take risks she normally would steer clear of. For the first time in her life, she is feeling exhilarated and also like she has a true connection with Vicente that she has never felt with anyone else before. While deeper feelings start to evolve between the two lovers, it would seem as though their relationship is doomed as there is no end to the list of people who are against their union.

The story ends with a cliffhanger but luckily for us, the conclusion is due out in May, so there’s not much of a wait. Get ready to fall in love with Karina Halle’s latest bad boy!!

REVIEW – PRESTON’S HONOR by Mia Sheridan

SYNOPSIS

There were two brothers—identical twins—and though I loved them both, my soul belonged to only one.

Annalia Del Valle has loved Preston Sawyer all her life. The daughter of an impoverished migrant farmworker, she grew up as an outcast in what was no more than a tiny, cooped up shack in California’s Central Valley. But her heart found freedom in the land, in the wide-open spaces of Sawyer Farm, and in the boys who were her only friends.

Preston has yearned for Annalia since he was a boy. But a sense of honor kept him from pursuing her until he’s unable to hold back any longer and their worlds—and bodies—collide one hot summer night. A night that sets off a chain of events that will alter their lives forever.

Now Annalia is back in town after disappearing without a trace for six long months. Determined to reclaim her heart, her life, and the baby she left behind—the son who was created in a moment of lust and love and pent-up yearning.

Preston has survived grief, a ravaging drought, and the despair of heartache, but he’s not sure he can survive Annalia again. And he might be unwilling to try. Will pride and bitterness keep him from the one thing he’s always longed for?

How do you heal what is irreparably broken? How do you forgive that which is unforgivable? How do you discover that real honor comes not from circumstance, but from the place deep in our hearts where truth resides? And how do you move beyond the wounds of the past to discover that some loves are as solid as the ground beneath your feet, and as enduring as the earth itself?

THIS IS A STAND-ALONE SIGN OF LOVE NOVEL, INSPIRED BY GEMINI. New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

PRESTON’s HONOR is a story in which the moral is that if you keep your true feelings hidden and never give voice to your passion, you may end up losing the one thing that matters the most. And if you’re lucky, sometimes you get a second chance to fix mistakes made in the past.

Annalia, Preston, and Cole have been best friends since early childhood. Preston and Cole are twin brothers who lived on the farm where Lia’s immigrant mother used to work on. Lia and her mother lived in a tiny one-room shack that is located just on the outskirts of the Sawyer’s farm. Although Lia is a few years younger the two brothers took to the pretty girl almost instantly. Preston and Lia had always harbored secret crushes on each other. They were so good at hiding their true feelings from each other and to everyone else that you can almost guess what eventually happens. Years later when they are teenagers, the wrong brother ends up making a move on Lia. Preston and Lia will waste years pining over their unrequited love and making false assumptions about one another.

dream

When Preston and Lia finally come clean with each other their passion is nothing short of explosive but soon tragedy nearly tears them apart. Feeling lost and bewildered after months of being practically ignored by Preston, Lia leaves town in hopes of finding the person inside of her that she’s always kept hidden and when she finds that inner peace, she tries to go back to the family she left behind.

Will Preston be able to forgive Lia for leaving? Can they move on from painful memories of the past and build a promising future for their little family?

Those of you who avoid love triangles, I would advise you to give this one a chance because ultimately this was a story about three friends who loved and looked out for each other no matter what adversities they faced.

Vaughn West, Hollywood heartthrob, has been at the top of his game for years. He thinks he’s untouchable—until a betrayal brings him spiraling down. Now, everyone pities him, and if there’s one thing Vaughn hates, it’s pity.

After a few months of working his way through every available actress, pop star, model, and waitress in California, Vaughn needs to get his life back on track and focus on what he does best—making hit movies.

Charlotte Michaels is in love. Just not with one person.
Louis Vuitton…
Christian Dior…
Valentino…
Gucci…
And the list goes on.

Sadly, Charly’s limited bank account doesn’t allow her those luxuries, and the closest she gets are lucky finds in charity shops and working closely with some of those names in her job as a wardrobe assistant.

Now, Charly has landed the mother of all jobs—working on the new Vaughn West movie. Excited doesn’t even cut it.

Only things don’t go as planned, and it turns out that Vaughn is actually a jerk. A hot jerk, but a jerk nonetheless.

So, why do their clothes keep falling off whenever they’re around each other? And why can’t Charly keep her mind in the closet and off Vaughn?

Getting mixed up with a smart-mouthed, fashion-obsessed wardrobe assistant is the last thing Vaughn needs.

Getting mixed up with an arrogant, self-centered, obnoxious, jumped-up actor who has a lack of respect for fashion is the last thing Charly needs.

Things are about to get hot, dirty, and messy in Hollywood. Very messy. Especially if Charly’s closely guarded secret falls out of her closet.

Vaughn West is a gorgeous, successful 29 yr. old movie star in LA. He’s from Keno, Oregon & has a wonderful family he’s very close to. He also has a girlfriend who turns his world upside down when he learns she’s having an affair with his best friend of ten years. He feels betrayed & stupid, and as a result, goes off the deep end for a while giving the press plenty to talk about. He’s partying & hooking up with actresses & supermodels. His manager has had enough & explains to him the focus needs to be put back on his work & not who he’s sleeping with, so Vaughn decides to get his act together. He’s just been hired as the lead in a new big budget movie, & is going to take a break from women until done filming.

Charlotte Michaels aka Charly is a 25 yr. old woman from Philadelphia who moved to New York when she was 18. She lives with her best friend & works as a wardrobe assistant. Her passion is fashion and she loves clothes. She’s just returned home from a job when she gets a call from a friend offering her a job on a big movie in LA. When she hears she would be the dresser for Vaughn West she accepts. This beautiful, sexy man has starred in many of her late night fantasies & she has a bit of a crush. Her crush soon fizzles some when she meets him and he’s a hot, arrogant jerk who gets under her skin and makes her furious.

As Vaughn & Charly work together the sexual tension eventually sets them both on fire for one another. He drives her crazy & she hates how badly she wants him. Vaughn loves this little game and how feisty she is. He enjoys pushing her buttons & getting a rise out of her. Once these two act on their attraction there’s no turning back. They can’t get enough of one another. The sex is off the charts amazing & their chemistry is undeniable. They soon realize they love spending time together outside the bedroom as well. They try to keep things private between them while getting to know one another better.

-“I need more. I want more… I want all of you.”

-She’s like every man’s fantasy. She’s my fantasy. And she’s about to become my reality.

-I get to see the real Vaughn West. One not many other people get to see.

-He has such a big heart. A heart that I want to keep all for myself.

What starts out as fun & casual soon turns serious as Vaughn & Charly fall for each other & both realize they want more. They’ve both developed strong feelings, but will secrets come out that could destroy their relationship.

This book was amazing!!! Reminded me why I love Samantha Towle’s writing so much. She remains one of my top favorite go to authors. This was romantic comedy at its best! Laugh out loud funny & a fabulous love story with a delicious movie star. Couldn’t put this one down. Just fantastic!

This man has slept with supermodels and actresses. I want him to remember this…remember me…because, at the end of the day, I’m no one special. I’ll just be another notch on Vaughn’s bedpost. But, to me, no other man will ever compare.

wm_teaser4-v2

Samantha Towle never ceases to amaze me. She has this gift for creating characters and stories that keep me captivated! I have no problem being totally consumed by the fabulous stories she produces. This was her first attempt at a RomCom and I do believe she nailed it!! WARDROBE MALFUNCTION has one sexy as hell and snarky Hero who is Hollywood’s favorite leading man, and a beautiful and sweet Heroine who just about everyone has a hard time not falling in love with.

Vaughn West has landed one of the biggest roles of his career. He’s been advised by his agent to clean up his act and get his head back in the game. After having been publicly humiliated by his ex-girlfriend and best friend during his last movie project, Vaughn went on a drinking and sex binge for a while to get over the betrayal and embarrassment. Now on the set of his new movie with one of the top Directors in the industry, the last thing he needs is to have a distraction in the form of his beautiful new wardrobe assistant. Vaughn and Charly don’t exactly hit it off during their first meeting, which has something to do with a needle and an unfortunate stabbing in Vaughn’s nether region!

wm_teaser1-v2

Vaughn is anything but sweet towards Charly from the moment they first met and even though he is nothing but a douchebag to her, she can’t help feeling insanely attracted to the man who has been the star of many of her late night fantasies. Vaughn is finding it hard to fight the enormous attraction he feels for Charly and once they both give in to their feelings, well let’s just say the schmexy is incredibly panty melting inducing!

Just when all seems to be going perfectly for the couple, a secret is uncovered by the paparazzi that could end up tearing Vaughn and Charly apart forever!

EXCERPT

“Are you a virgin?” I ask.

“Well . . . yes.”

“Then why are you complaining? You qualify.”

Sarah’s eyes flash with annoyance. “Because I’m more than my hymen, Henry! To base the value of an accomplished, intelligent woman on a flimsy piece of skin is degrading. How would you feel if your worth rested on your foreskin?”

I think it over. And then I grin. “I’d be all right with that, actually. I’ve heard it was an impressive foreskin—all the nurses were fawning over it. It’s probably being showcased in a museum right now.”

She stares at me for a beat, then she laughs out loud—a rich, throaty, sensual sound.

“You’re a terrible human being.”

“I know.” I shake my head at the calamity of it all.

“And you’re an even worse feminist.”

“Agreed. That’s something I need to work on. You’ll help me, won’t you? We should spend as much time together as possible—every minute of the day and night. I’m hoping you’ll rub off on me.”

Sarah pushes my shoulder. “You’re just hoping I’ll rub you off.”

Now it’s my turn to laugh. Because she’s not even a little bit wrong.

“But there’s never been anyone? Really?”

Sarah shrugs. “Penny and I were tutored at home when we were young . . . but in year ten, there was this one boy.”

I rub my hands together. “Here we go—tell me everything. I want all the sick, lurid details. Was he a footballer? Captain of the team, the most popular boy in school?”

“He was captain of the chess team.”

I cover my eyes with my hand.

“His name was Davey. He wore these adorable tweed jackets and bow ties, he had blond hair and was a bit pale because of the asthma. He had the same glasses as me and he had a different pair of argyle socks for every day of the year.”

“I am so disappointed in you right now.”

“He was nice,” she chides. “You leave my Davey alone.”

I shake my head. “So what happened to old Davey boy?”

“I was alone in the library one day and he came up and started to ask me to the spring social. And I was so excited and nervous I could barely breathe. And then before he could finish the question, I . . .”

I don’t realize I’m leaning toward her until she stops talking and I almost fall over.

“You . . . what?”

Sarah hides behind her hands.

“I threw up on him.”

And I try not to laugh. I swear I try . . . but I’m only human. So I end up laughing so hard the car shakes and I can’t speak for several minutes.

“Christ almighty.”

“And I’d had fish and chips for lunch.” Sarah’s laughing too. “It was awful.”

“Oh you poor thing.” I shake my head, still chuckling. “And poor Davey.”

“Yes.” She wipes under her eyes with her finger. “Poor Davey. He never came near me again after that.”

“Coward—he didn’t deserve you. I would’ve swam through a whole lake of puke to take a girl like you to the social.”

She smiles so brightly at me, her cheeks maroon and round like two shiny apples.

“I think that’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever said to me.”

I wiggle my eyebrows. “I’m all about the compliments.”

REVIEW – MACK DADDY by Penelope Ward

pwmackdaddybookcover5x8_bw_high-fixed

SYNOPSIS

From New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Ward, comes a sexy, STANDALONE second-chance romance.

They called him Mack Daddy. No, seriously, his name was Mack. Short for Mackenzie.

Thus, the nickname. Perfect, right?
So was he: perfect. The perfect physical male specimen.

At the private school where I taught, Mack Morrison was the only man around in a sea of women.
Everyone wanted a piece of the hot single father of the sweet little boy. I was riddled with jealousy, because they didn’t know that—to me—he was much more.
They didn’t know about our past.
He’d chosen my school for his son on purpose, because Mack and I, we had unfinished business.

As my friend Lorelai so eloquently put it: “Unfinished business between two people who are clearly attracted to each other is like an eternal case of blue balls.” And I was suffering in pain from my case.

I was still intensely attracted to Mack. I tried to resist him, immersing myself further into a relationship with another man just to protect my heart.
Not to mention, getting involved with a parent was strictly against school rules. But seeing Mack day in and day out was breaking me down.

And soon I might be breaking all the rules.

Author’s note – Told in alternating points of view, Mack Daddy is a full-length standalone novel

Francesca O’Hara aka Frankie is a teacher at a catholic private school in Boston named St. Matthew’s. She’s looking forward to starting the new year until her whole world is turned upside down by a man from her past. Frankie hasn’t seen Mack since he broke her heart about eight years ago. They were roommates in college. Best friends who slowly fell in love. He was the first man to ever make her feel special, but the one man she could never have. She longed for & fantasized about Mack for years, but their timing was never right. Life got in the way, and he left Boston and crushed Frankie in the process.

Mackenzie Morrison aka Mack is an involved father who wants the very best for his son. He feels the best is St. Matthew’s & Frankie. He chooses the school & Frankie specifically for Jonah. He also wants to see Frankie again. They gave unfinished business, & he’s never been able to get over her. He wants her in his life & is determined to win her back. He’s got nothing to lose & he’s going for it.

-My physical reaction to him was certainly one thing that hadn’t changed a bit. I had no clue how I was going to survive this year.

-Mack still had the ability to take my breath away.

-I’m here for you, Frankie. I’m here to finish what I started years ago.

-I was extremely attracted to her brain, to her heart, to just being with her, to how she made me feel.

-When I’m with you… I’m Mack. I feel like myself. When you look at me, you remind me of who I am, who I want to be.

Mack makes it clear he wants Frankie. She’s in a relationship & tries to resist him, but seeing him every day is slowly breaking down her walls. He wants a second chance, but can she risk him breaking her heart all over again. She also has to deal with the fact that getting involved with a parent is against school rules. They share such a history that eventually their intense attraction & connection are too much to deny. We get a lot of angst, a hot single dad all the mom’s want, & a beautiful second chance romance.

*****FOUR STARS*****

She was the one. Our time together seemed to flash before my eyes, all of our many conversations, ranging from our deepest thoughts and hang-ups to the strange and funny. It was her. It had always been her.

hes-back

I wasn’t sure what to think about this book when I first started it. The very first meeting between the main characters was one of the most embarrassing and funny moments I’ve ever come across in a book, but then we learn that the Hero has been in a relationship with another woman for several years. I’ve never been one to steer clear of stories with cheating or love triangles in them before, but for some reason, it bothered me in this one. HOWEVER, as I proceeded on with the book, it really is a story that contains a couple of my favorite tropes – ”Friends-to-Lovers” and “Second Chance Romance”, and honestly it is nearly impossible not to fall head over heels in love with the H & h! I hope that you, too, will fall in love and root for Mack and Frankie to find their HEA!!

Mack and Frankie meet when they become roommates while attending college. Frankie is working on her bachelor’s degree in child education and Mack is finishing up his last year in Graduate school. Their first encounter ends up being some of Frankie’s most mortifying moments but these two form a fast friendship and soon deep feelings develop between them. They keep things platonic as neither of them condones cheating. But as the time approaches for Mack to move out and head back to D.C., they both can no longer deny their true feelings for each other. So the plan is to clean up loose ends back home and then come back to Frankie as a free man. If only life hadn’t gotten in the way of their dreams!!

About seven years later, Frankie is a first-grade teacher and on the first day of the semester, there’s a new student in her class whose father happens to be a blast from the past! This is no happy coincidence. Mack purposely chose the school Frankie works at to enroll his son in hopes of pursuing what he knows was the one true love of his life. Sadly, now it’s Frankie who isn’t free to give their love a second try. She’s in a committed relationship with an older man who gives her love and stability. For once she feels safe and there’s no chance of getting her heart broken again.

jeans-teaser

Feelings from the past will prove to be hard to get over. As Mack makes his intentions clear to Frankie, she will start to question everything in her life. I had a hard time at first with Frankie’s indecision about the situation but if you are a fan of Penelope Ward, you know that she has a plan and that there will be a twist that will ease all your trepidations about the other people who seem to pose as complications for the main characters.

When Mack and Frankie finally get through all the BS, it’s nearly impossible not to root for these two to finally have their fairy tale ending. It becomes all too clear that they were always meant to be and you’ll end up with a huge smile on your face by the time you reach the end.

REVIEW – SINGE (Guardian Protection #1) by Aly Martinez

singe-for-web

SYNOPSIS

She was my nightmare. Every time I closed my eyes, I watched her fall into that inferno. Over and over, I failed to save her.

I hadn’t been able to reach her, and the guilt only burned hotter over time. Four years later, I was the unreachable one.

Heroes aren’t always saints. Sometimes, we’re nothing more than jaded sinners driven by sleepless nights and hearts full of darkness.

And then I met her. She was a dreamer who managed to soothe my scars and heal my wounds.

But, as the flames closed in around us, I feared I wasn’t the right man to save her. That is until I realized she was the one woman I’d burn the world down to protect.

I lived in his nightmares. He lived in my dreams.

singeteaserlana1

SINGE is the first in a series of standalone novels surrounding each of the hotter than hell alpha males who work for the Guardian Protection Agency. There are a few series out there that have a similar flavor but Aly Martinez manages to give it her own flair–I wouldn’t expect anything less from Ms. Martinez! I do have to mention that I found some of the drama to be a bit tiring and if some of it were cut out of the storyline then I feel it wouldn’t have dragged on for me at times. More often than not, I love the Hero and the Heroine usually tends to grate on my nerves, but in SINGE it is the Hero that I wanted to slap around. No amount of hotness on his part helped me to overlook his childish behavior. But we get a bevy of sexy alpha males and an endearing Heroine who loves and writes romance novels, so overall the story won me over!

Rhion and Jude are bound to each other through a tragic event that will haunt them in different ways, years after it occurred. Rhion was stuck out on the ledge of the second floor of her burning house and Jude ends up being the only police office within the vicinity who gets called while off duty and asked to investigate the situation. He had been off for a couple hours and had a few drinks at a local bar. He probably shouldn’t have gone to the scene but no other officers were in the area and the dispatch operator convinces him to go and investigate the situation. When he sees Rhion surrounded by flames in an impossible situation he is crippled by his inability to save her. He does stay at the scene and tries to get her to climb to the roof, which is normally the one thing you should never do, but soon there is no choice but for Rhion to jump and then we are left wondering what happened to the both of them.

The story fast-forwards to about five years into the future. Rhion is living in a beautiful loft apartment which is one floor above the Guardian Protection Agency. She is one of their top clients and the guys have become more like family to her than employees. The agency is about to get a new employee—Jude Levitt, the cop who tried to save her from the flames that ended up scarring the both of them physically and mentally. As soon as they come face to face there is an instant spark of attraction between them. Jude has been living in Rhion’s fantasies since that fateful night, but it hasn’t been the same for Jude. He’s been haunted by the beautiful butterfly who ended up getting burned by the flames. His guilt over being intoxicated and not doing more to help her has been eating away at him for all this time.

criminal

He ends up being given the assignment of becoming her protector as it becomes apparent that he is like a soothing balm to Rhion and also helps her to ease out of her agoraphobic tendencies. Their romance is definitely what you might consider “insta-love” but I didn’t mind it too much since the schmexy was out of this world HOT!! What bothered me was Jude’s reaction to some of Rhion’s secrets. When they are revealed his reaction seemed childish and even idiotic. I was starting to lose interest but luckily there’s a reveal towards the last twenty-five percent of the story and added dose of suspense that had me on pins and needles, wondering how it was all going to end.

REVIEW – LOVE STORY (Love Unexpectedly #3) by Lauren Layne

love-story_cover

SYNOPSIS

Over the course of one wild road trip, feuding childhood sweethearts get a second chance at love in this charming rom-com—a standalone novel from the USA Today bestselling author of Blurred Lines and Good Girl.

When Lucy Hawkins receives a job offer in San Francisco, she can’t wait to spread her wings and leave her small Virginia hometown behind. Her close-knit family supports her as best they can, by handing over the keys to a station wagon that’s seen better days. The catch? The cross-country trip comes with a traveling companion: her older brother’s best friend, aka the guy who took Lucy’s virginity hours before breaking her heart.

After spending the past four years and every last dime caring for his sick father, Reece Sullivan will do just about anything to break free of the painful memories—even if it means a two-week road trip with the one girl who’s ever made it past his carefully guarded exterior. But after long days of bickering in the car turn into steamy nights in secluded motel rooms, Reece learns that, when it comes to Lucy, their story is far from over. And this time, they just might have a shot at a happy ending.

He kisses me on and on, and slowly I feel my doubts disappear. I let myself believe, just for a second, that he wants me the way I want him.

ls_teaser

Lauren Layne has written another story with a couple of my favorite tropes- ”in love with the older brother’s best friend” & “second chance romance”. The premise had me so excited about this one – a sexy & brooding Hero and a sassy Heroine on the outs and forced to endure each other’s company on a two-week road trip across the U.S. There was sure to be a lot of heat due to the tension that existed between the H & h, and I can confirm that there are several steamy moments that will please readers, but this reader was more than a little annoyed with the constant push and pull between the two characters. I was literally exhausted from all the trips between the past and the present during the story and more than that, the immaturity of the Hero began to chip away at my patience.

Lucy and Reece have been friends since their early childhood days. Reece was Lucy’s older brother Craig’s, best friend, and her family unofficially adopted him as their own once his mother passed away and his family life kind of fell apart. Reece had always been protective of Lucy and she harbored a crush on him almost from the start. If Reece were being truly honest with himself, he’d admit that Lucy pretty much had his heart from the beginning too. Things get serious between them when Lucy is eighteen and Reece is nineteen, but Reece’s insecurities cause him to do something really stupid which ends up tearing the couple apart. Lucy goes off to college with a broken heart and leaves Reece behind back home. They see each other briefly, several years later at Reece’s father’s funeral and then once more when Lucy is twenty-four and Reece is twenty-five. They’re both moving across the country to Napa to start new jobs and Lucy’s parents give them their old car as their form of transportation. Neither are particularly happy about being travel buddies as they still haven’t gotten over their painful past. Two people with years worth of hurt and animosity, spending almost every waking hour together for two weeks straight in such close proximity seems to be a recipe for disaster.

For most of the road trip Reece and Lucy alternate between sexy innuendos and heated arguments. Lucy still hasn’t gotten over how Reece’s stupid actions tore them apart six years ago. Reece still holds on to the ridiculous notion that he’s not good enough for Lucy and that she’ll only end up leaving him just like she did when she went off to college. Reece’s insecurities, to me, seemed unfounded and for that reason, I had a hard time finding him a swoon-worthy book boyfriend. Lucy was clearly putting herself out there to him and he was just completely blind and lacked the confidence to realize that he was everything to her.

The story wasn’t a complete disappointment for me, there were some really tender moments from their childhood that touched my heart and the steamy moments throughout held my interest. I wanted these two to get over all of their immature insecurities and give love another shot. There was no denying that they had white hot chemistry sparking between them.

LOVE STORY releases on Valentine’s Day! I think those of you who love angst-filled romances just might enjoy this one.

”What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger. They may try to tear our hearts apart…”

“But they don’t understand, our hearts are made of steel. Women like us are unbreakable. Even when we’re shattered into a thousand bits. We just find a way to gather up what’s left, walk into the fire otherwise known as life, and weld our most precious piece back together again.”

teaser-10

The fifth installment of the ”War & Peace” series is the continuation of Gabe’s daughter, Brie’s story. The previous book ends with Brie’s world being turned upside down when a psychopath that had a demented fixation on her, ends up murdering her beloved husband Duvan right before her eyes. Gabe comes to her rescue and now they are on the run in Columbia. Brie is also pregnant and is looking to liquidate her husband’s assets so that she can return back to California and try to lead some semblance of a normal life for the sake of her unborn child. Unfortunately, she seems to have numerous unsavory characters who are after her and she is in constant danger.

Brie is still reeling from the loss of Duvan but when Ren McPherson, comes back into her life, he provides her the solace that she so desperately needs from her nightmares. Their friendship turns physical almost instantaneously and while at first, she seems to be using Ren to get over the emptiness she feels, soon enough old feelings of love are resurfacing. But the young lovers’ lives are not completely blissful as there is always the constant threat against Brie’s life. Duvan’s father, a Columbian drug-lord named Diego, and Ren’s psychotic sister Hannah, all mean to put an end to Brie.

teaser-9

There is a ton of violence throughout this story and it’s what we come to expect from this series. Also, the sexy times are in overabundance and definitely out of this world hot. But Brie constantly being in danger was almost tiring and a bit comical. She had Gabe and Ren as her protectors but those two no matter how strong and psychotic they were seemed to be the absolute WORST bodyguards! They never could keep her safe! At some point, I was over the damsel in distress theme that kept playing on repeat throughout this book. While the sexy times were incredible, I also felt like it was a bit of overkill.

While this was my least favorite of the five books I did enjoy the tender moments shared between Brie and Gabe. Gabe will always be my favorite and I love that he is such a multi-layered and complex character. Even Hannah showed a bit of her soft side in this one.

*****Dee’s Review*****

One Million Blazing Stars********

A truly extraordinary journey I’ll never forget. Triumph was the perfect conclusion to this amazing saga. Filled with incredible characters you will miss when the final page is turned.

21844206-_sy540_

Triumph is my most anticipated book this year. I counted the days, stalked the author, and dreamed of once again reading the story that has been etched on my heart from the moment I read that first book. Now imagine, when it was time for me to read this book, I savored every word. I don’t think I ever took so long to read a book, but this story was important, I couldn’t just rush thru it, I wanted to experience and remember every single word.

Once again Caroline became a hero in my eyes, her strength, resilience, and determination to fight for everything, and everyone she loves simply took my breath away. She is someone who can make you laugh and cry with equal passion within the same sentence. Chapter after chapter you are in awe of her, Caroline’s character is truly inspiring. She takes you to the edge of the precipice. You love her, you hate her, you want to be her, and you become her as you feel every event of her life as your own, thanks to the magic pen of Cecilia London.

Now let’s talk about Jack, “OH Jack…” What can I say about the delicious, amazing, hotter than hot, Commander McIntyre? I have three simple letters, WOW.

The way Jack loves Caroline, the way he loves his country, his conviction, and dedication to the cause that have brought him both pain and satisfaction. I simply don’t have the words to do him justice, nothing I say can properly convey the powerful force that his character really is.

21844207-_sy540_

What’s so special about the Bellator Saga and it’s stunning conclusion is that it’s a story that is not just about one thing; Cecilia London is just not as simple as that. This story is about friendships, power, greed, love, pain, beauty, blood and everything else in between. So many aspects that constructed this beautifully flawed story, that was never, ever, more of the same, always changing, always moving, always groundbreaking, just perfect.

I know many people feel intimidated by a story with so many books, but when you get SO MUCH from one story, you don’t ever want it to end, you crave more, you want more, you’re obsessed with more.

By now you’ve caught on to the fact that I haven’t actually described in detail what this last book is about, but only because I want you to suffer, and enjoy with every word just like I did. Besides, nothing I can tell you will prepare you for what you are about read, stunning words that form a truly unforgettable story.

Once gain, “Thank you” Cecilia London for having bad BBQ and dreaming of these beautiful characters that have given me so much. I will never stop smiling, and I will never stop believing as long as I have these books next to my heart.

So, if you want to have your mind blown away, your heart crushed and your body temperature to rise to insane levels, READ THESE BOOKS!!!!!!!!! Just do it! Do it!!!!
