REVIEW – IF YOU WERE MINE by Melanie Harlow

mhifyouwereminebookcover5x8_bw_mediumS

SYNOPSIS

Theo MacLeod wasn’t supposed to be the one.

Tall, dark and handsome suits me just fine, but the cocky grin, know-it-all attitude, and mammoth ego? No thanks. I only hired him so I wouldn’t have to sit at the singles table again. It was just pretend.

He wasn’t supposed to kiss me.

My heart wasn’t supposed to pound.

We weren’t supposed to spend the night together—the hottest night of my life.

One night turns into a snowed-in weekend away, and even the blizzard of the century can’t cool the fire between us. I can’t get enough—of his smile, of his body, of the way he makes me feel.

We’re nothing alike. He’s a daredevil, and I’m a nervous Nellie. He’s a drifter, and I want to put down roots. He’s an opportunist with a checkered past, and I’m a Girl Scout volunteer.

But none of it matters when I’m in his arms.

I know he’s made mistakes. I know his wounds are deep, and he doesn’t trust easily. I know he doesn’t believe he could ever be enough to make me happy, but he could.

All he has to do is stay.

On one level, I’d known why he was here, but on another, I’d felt real chemistry with him. A real attraction. I’d started to hope for more.

if-you-were-mine-teaser-3

IF YOU WERE MINE is the story of Claire French, a sweet and hopeless romantic woman who is perpetually single. Her two best friends have recently found their soul mates which leaves her feeling somewhat sad and dysfunctional because she has yet to meet a man who is worthy of giving her heart to. She spends her free time getting lost in her romance novels and Hallmark channel movies—a woman I can totally relate to. To avoid being banished to the singles table at an upcoming wedding she tells the bride that she will be bringing her boyfriend of two months as her plus one. The only problem is she doesn’t have one nor does she know anyone who can play the part. Claire finds an online service where she can hire a “fake boyfriend” to be her escort. There are no sexual favors included in the package.

Theo Macleod doesn’t like to be tied down to one place. His job at the escort service allows him luxury to travel across the country. He supplements his finances by getting involved in the occasional illegal scam. Theo has Claire figured out from their very first informal meeting. He can tell that she is a genuinely sweet person who has yet to reach her full potential because she’s afraid to take risks in her life. She’s an art teacher at an elementary school but has so much talent that she could actually become an accomplished artist, with her paintings being sold at local art galleries, but her fear of rejection holds her back.

iywm-trust-ad

On their date, both Claire and Theo are feeling a strong attraction for each other and while Claire is willing to take a chance and see what could develop between them, Theo is hesitant and fearful of what the future could bring. He has trust and abandonment issues that stem back from his childhood when both parents bailed on Theo and his brother at a very young age. This has him doing everything to guard his heart. It’s why he never stays in one place too long so that he can avoid forming any lasting relationships. He’s so afraid of rejection that he has built up an impenetrable wall but he is so attracted to Claire that they do end up spending one incredible night of passion with each other. But Theo’s insecurities will put a serious strain on their relationship when his need to run away kicks in whenever he starts to feel that things are getting too significant between them.

I started off really liking this story and even hopeful that this was going to be a winner. I loved Claire so much as I felt she was a very relatable character. Theo was incredibly sexy and charismatic during the first 25% of the story but as he started to become a serious flake and kept putting Claire through so much unnecessary heartache, I started to lose my love for his character. While the story does tie up perfectly by the end I never did feel that Theo was good enough for Claire. Maybe it’s because I have been involved with quite a few Theo’s in my day and I know just how much they can break a girl’s, heart.

ifwm-ad-drunk-on-possibility

If you’re a fan of Melanie Harlow then you’ll definitely enjoy this one. Also, I didn’t realize that Claire is best friends with the heroines from ”MAN CANDY” and “AFTER WE FALL” so it was nice to be able to revisit with those characters.

REVIEW – THE BUTTERFLY PROJECT by Emma Scott

tbpimage-final-pic

SYNOPSIS

“Where you are is home…”

At age fourteen, Zelda Rossi witnessed the unthinkable, and has spent the last ten years hardening her heart against the guilt and grief. She channels her pain into her art: a dystopian graphic novel where vigilantes travel back in time to stop heinous crimes—like child abduction—before they happen. Zelda pitches her graphic novel to several big-time comic book publishers in New York City, only to have her hopes crash and burn. Circumstances leave her stranded in an unfamiliar city, and in an embarrassing moment of weakness, she meets a guarded young man with a past he’d do anything to change…

Beckett Copeland spent two years in prison for armed robbery, and is now struggling to keep his head above water. A bike messenger by day, he speeds around New York City, riding fast and hard but going nowhere, his criminal record holding him back almost as much as the guilt of his crime.

Zelda and Beckett form a grudging alliance of survival, and in between their stubborn clash of wills, they slowly begin to provide each other with the warmth of forgiveness, healing, and maybe even love. But when Zelda and Beckett come face to face with their pasts, they must choose to hold on to the guilt and regret that bind them, or let go and open their hearts for a shot at happiness.

The Butterfly Project is a novel that reveals the power of forgiveness, and how even the smallest decisions of the heart can—like the flutter of a butterfly’s wings—create currents that strengthen into gale winds, altering the course of a life forever.

*****Dee’s Review*****

6+++++ ~Second Chance~ Stars *******

I can never go wrong with an Emma Scott novel. I have been suffering from a very intense book hangover, but leave it to The Butterfly Project to pull me right out of my book funk after only reading a couple of pages. This novel felt like eighty-nine thousand words fluttering around my soul, making their way into my heart, and making it soar. An uplifting story about second chances that will give you all the feels, and then some…

Zelda Rossi is a very talented artist. She’s finally found the courage to leave her job and her friends in Vegas behind to pursue her dream to move to New York City and try to sell her graphic novel to a publishing house. After only a few days in the city, her experience hasn’t been the greatest, she got robbed and rejected by a few publishers, but there’s a tiny glimmer of hope inside all the disappointment, and after meeting Beckett Copeland she’s decided to try again and don’t give up on her dream, at least not without a fight.

Beckett Copeland didn’t have the best childhood growing up. Poor and without parents, he was raised by his grandfather, who later on got very sick, and Beckett got desperate into trying to provide for him. One night Beckett made a terrible mistake that now follows him, and it doesn’t matter what he does, the shadow of his transgression is always present, and leaving him with very few choices out of life.

Beckett and Zelda become roommates in an effort to help one another. Every night they talk and they get to know each other more, turning Beckett’s once cold and sterile apartment into a warm home, where memories and second chances will bloom. Bringing both Zelda and Beckett out of the darkness and into the light.

22052967-_sx540_

Just when they thought they didn’t deserve happiness, even when they believed with everything inside them that their past mistakes had forever ruined their lives, love comes in changing everything for Zelda and Beckett. The feelings that thread the pages of this book were beautiful and overwhelming. It will swallow you whole and leave you smiling, or perhaps with a few tears running down your cheeks.

Why do I always love reading an Emma Scott book? Because her stories always mean something important, they have great power. They somehow renew my faith in humanity, renew the faith of myself, they stay with me and always make me happy. Her books are a treasure, a beautiful gem that will shine brightly on the shelves of your library.

I will remember this book forever and will forever remember that everyone deserves a second chance…

She’s woven herself into my life, so tightly that if I cut those threads, I’ll unravel. The warmth will seep out, the light will dim until I’m nothing but dark.

tbp-teaser-escott

I’ve been dying to read one of Emma Scott’s books for quite some time now and I can say without a doubt that this woman has a truly rare gift for story-telling. I see what all the hype has been about! The Butterfly Project is a tale of two lost and broken souls who are brought to each other by fate, and who end up finding redemption through the love that develops between them. I was completely swept away by this book and felt like in no time at all I had gotten to the end and never once did I feel the need to skim because I wanted to absorb every single word!

Zelda Rossi is an aspiring artist and graphic novelist, who is in NYC trying to sell her series to a publishing company. Nearly every publishing house has turned her down except for one, who advises her to make some changes and to come back in a couple of months with her revised storyline. Zelda’s luck goes from bad to worse when her prized art supplies are stolen out of her room in a dilapidated hostel she was staying at. With this new setback, she has no choice but to get back on the next bus to Las Vegas and to put her dreams of getting her series published on hold. Luckily for her, fate steps in when she ends up meeting Beckett Copeland, a busboy at a restaurant she goes to have dinner at. Zelda suffers from PTSD which stems from a traumatizing childhood experience. It keeps her from being able to go back home to her family since that is where the incident took place and her panic attacks come on strong there. Zelda ends up needing to get some air and while in the alley behind the restaurant she and Beck strike up a conversation.

Beck Copeland has his own issues as well. One moment of poor judgement landed him in jail and with an enormous weight of guilt that he carries with him on a daily basis. But Beckett is an inherently good soul and something about Zelda calls to him. He feels this need to help and protect her. They end up becoming roommates in his tiny studio apartment in Brooklyn since he can barely cover the rent with the two jobs that he has and Zelda doesn’t have enough money to rent her own apartment.

Two strangers quickly become the best of friends and they even end up being the balm to soothe each other’s suffering from their tragic pasts. Zelda is bringing color back into Beck’s life and he is the only one who convinces her that she needs to keep fighting to accomplish her dreams. Beck has a calming effect on Zelda whenever she has an impending panic attack. He’s also become her muse and writing partner on her graphic novel series.

Zelda and Beck start to develop deeper feelings for each other and what was already a stunning story then became one of 2017’s best by far! I didn’t think that I could fall for Beck any harder but, oh yes, my heart was completely stolen by him! I was dying for the romance to spark and it was well worth the wait.

The Butterfly Project is one of those books that will leave you with a feeling of emptiness at the end because it is just so darn perfect that you never want it to be over. I think I may be ruined for all other books because nothing has come close to the perfection of this one. If you’ve never read anything by this amazing author, you need to make it a point to bump her up your TBR! I guarantee you that once you have read one of her stories that she will become an automatic must read for you!

REVIEW – DEAR AGONY by Georgia Cates

dear-agony-ebook-cover

SYNOPSIS

Dear Agony,

You’ve been my shadow, following me through childhood—filling my days and nights with terror and uncertainty. You cleverly disguised yourself as some form of pain or suffering as I grew into a young woman. We were unwavering companions … until I severed our ties.

I traded homelessness on the streets of New Orleans for a luxurious bed covered by the finest linens.
I traded dumpster diving for dinner in the finest restaurants.
I traded myself to a stranger—Bastien Pascal.

I have a good life within my platonic and mutually beneficial companionship with Bash.
He’s my friend. My mentor. My roommate.
Until everything changes.

I’m not supposed to get goosebumps when his hand brushes my skin.
I’m not supposed to be eager for his soothing touch following one of my nightmares.
I’m not supposed to think about what might happen if I reached out to him in the darkness.

Falling in love with him? Preposterous . . . unavoidable.

Agony, why are you back with a vengeance to rob me of this life I’ve come to love so dearly?

I’m finally happy. Don’t ruin this for me.

Always yours,
Rose

In this epic love story, Dear Agony forges a connection between an unlikely pair—a beautiful rose entwined in barbed wire and a shipwreck sinking into the darkest depths of the ocean. This agonizing romantic novel poses some gut-wrenching questions: What does a woman do when the man she loves is planning his own demise? And how far will she go to give him something to live for?

SYNOPSIS

***A Standalone novel in The Pucked Series***

I’m NHL defenseman Lance Romero, AKA Lance “Romance.”

I’m notorious for parties and excess. I have the most penalty minutes in the league. I get into the most fights. I take the most hits. I’m a player on and off the ice. I’m the one women with no inhibitions want.

Not because I like the notoriety, but because I don’t know how to be any other way.

I have secrets. Ones I shared with the wrong person, and she used them against me. Sometimes she still does. I should cut ties. But she makes it difficult, because she’s the kind of bad I deserve.

At least that’s what I believed until someone from my past gets caught up in my present. She’s all the good things in this world. She lights up my dark.

I shouldn’t want her.

But I do.

I should leave her alone.

But I won’t.

We’re both full of fire, and his past is full of pain he carries with him. But I’m willing to try, because I want him. And more than that, this man is the kind of beautiful I need in my life.

forever

I think I just fell that much more in love with Helena Hunting!! This series has been nothing short of STELLAR for me. It is definitely, by far, my most favorite Sports RomCom series ever! Each book is simply superb! I have been waiting for months to be able to read Lance “Romance” Romero’s story and you know how they say “some things are worth the wait”? That saying perfectly describes this book. It was like an early birthday present that has left me with a permanent smile on my face. I had a feeling Lance’s book was going to be different from the previous books because of the darkness that seemed to always surround his character and even though this one lacked the hilarious laugh-out-loud moments we have come to expect from the Pucked series, it didn’t make it any less fabulous!

pucked-off-teaser-rdb

We have gotten to know Lance through every passing book in the PUCKED series, but what I can tell you after having read this one, those little snippets barely scratched the surface of what this complex character was really like on the inside. I have always stood firm on the fact that I am an Alex Waters girl, but I think he may have to share the spot of #1 in my heart with Lance now. This man is utterly broken but it is his inner frailty that makes him truly beautiful. Lance has had a very hard life, particularly it’s his childhood that all of his painful darkness stems from. Always having been reminded that he was nothing by his own mother and having been the victim of child abuse, has left lasting damage to Lance’s psyche. Everyone thought that he was the bad guy in the scandal that surrounded his romantic involvement with the team’s trainer, Natasha. What we should have learned after having read so many books in the series is that things don’t always appear to be the way they seem. Tash is nothing short of an evil, conniving witch and she used Lance’s brokenness to inflict her special kind of torture and head games.

pucked-off-fit-him-in-teaser

After having gone on a drunken binge which was spurred on by yet another hurtful encounter with Tash, Lance ends up getting the crap beat out of him in a bar fight. His body is covered in bruises and he can barely move around on the ice, so he is ordered by one of his trainers to go for a massage session. It’s the last thing he wants because he has an adverse reaction to any kind of physical touch to his body. He does go for his massage appointment since he is warned he’ll be benched for the next game if he doesn’t go. As soon as he sees his massage therapist, he’s instantly attracted and drawn to her and miraculously her touch is actually soothing to him. Little does he know that she is no stranger to him, but unfortunately his drinking and his ability to turn off memories from his past has him totally forgetting the beautiful and sweet woman who has never forgotten him.

Lance isn’t the type of man who ever wanted to be in a relationship with a woman since there has never been one who he could stand to be touched by, but something about Poppy brings him peace and a sense of longing he can hardly comprehend. This woman is pure and is nothing like Tash or the puck bunnies he has been accustomed to. Once he realizes that this connection that is building between them is what he wants more than anything will he be able to hold on to the happiness that he’s so sure he’s undeserving of?

I was completely consumed by Lance’s story and there were even times that I got a bit misty eyed and my heart ached for this beautiful broken man! If you have not read this series yet, I STRONGLY recommend it! It’s nothing but pure goodness!

The Queen takes pity on him and tells him to go off to one of their secluded palaces for a couple of months to get his act together. While on his mini vacation, Henry is approached by a television producer wanting him to star in a reality dating show called Matched- Royal Edition. Twenty beautiful blue bloods in one castle for six weeks to compete for Prince Henry. One would win a diamond tiara & hope to capture his heart in the end. Henry had no intention of picking a bride. He just wants a distraction & is looking for a little fun.

Henry meets two sisters that arrive at the castle for the filming of the show. Lady Sarah Von Titebottum & her sister Penelope. Sarah is the daughter of a countess & works at a library. She loves Jane Austen novels & is considered the good sister, or the boring one. She’s set in her ways & likes her routine.

Sarah meets Prince Henry & is expecting an entitled, rich, spoiled, careless Prince. Instead he’s rather down to earth, extremely funny, & a shameless flirt. As Sarah spends more time with Henry she see’s he’s gentle, charming, sweet and intelligent. They could talk for hours & he enjoys making her blush. Henry gets to know the prim & proper shy girl with the glasses, & thinks she’s beautiful inside and out.

Sarah quickly becomes extremely important to Henry, and he doesn’t want to screw it up. He’s completely enamored by her beauty & kindness. They both fall fast for one another & we get a beautiful love story.

I adored this book! His Royal Highness was dreamy. He was absolutely swoon worthy & had such a beautiful heart. I fell hard for the sweet, sexy Prince Henry.!

-She’s stunning. I’ve never known anyone like her.

-“Can’t you see it, Sarah? I’m absolutely gone for you.”

-“You are woven into my soul and you are wrapped around my heart.”

-All I want is to be his.

-“You are every dream I never let myself believe could come true.”

“I believe in you, Henry.”

-You will be amazing. I know it in my heart and to the bottom of my soul.

SYNOPSIS

New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett steams up the ice all over again as the Carolina Cold Fury hockey team’s hottest bad boy gets his first taste of something good.

In a league full of troublemakers, Cold Fury defenseman Roman Sýkora stands out—at least when it comes to negative publicity. When he’s not chilling in the penalty box, the sizzling Czech skate demon is racking up tabloid headlines for his scandalous behavior with the ladies. But now Roman’s feeling the burn from management to clean up his act, or else. Luckily he’s got an enticing distraction: a fun-loving barista who plays the ukulele and brings out a side of Roman he didn’t know he had.

Lexi Robertson came to Raleigh, North Carolina, to finally meet her father, Brian Brannon, and her half sister, Gray, both of whom work in the Cold Fury’s front office. That’s where she first meets sexy, intimidating Roman—who’s really a big softie at heart. As one relationship takes off, another begins: Brian seems to be clicking with Lexi’s boss at the coffee shop. But when the friction between Roman and her new family heats up, Lexi wonders whether she’s a pawn in their game. Feeling hurt and foolish, Lexi’s ready to quit while she’s ahead. ROMAN is book seven in the Cold Fury series and I’d dare to say that it became one of my favorites! It has a sexy as hell, bad boy NHL player and an eccentric Heroine who you can’t help but root for to find her HEA. Not only do we get two new main characters, but we have a couple of secondary characters whose budding romance almost outshines the storyline of the Hero and Heroine!! I was delightfully surprised by just how much I enjoyed this story!! It reminded me that this is one of Sawyer Bennet’s best series and that I need to catch up on some of the books I have missed so far!

Roman Sykora is the Cold Fury’s bad ass hockey player who racks up almost as many penalties on the ice as he does women on his downtime. He’s been benched for misconduct more than any of his teammates and his drinking and bedding of a plethora of women has landed him on the pages of many gossip magazines. He’s in hot water with the general manager, Gray Brannon, who is married to his teammate, Ryker. While waiting to be called into Gray’s office he meets a beautiful young woman in the reception area. They strike up an easy conversation and even get a bit flirtatious with each other as well. Lexi Robertson is new in town and has a scheduled meeting with the CEO of the Cold Fury for a very personal matter.

Lexi’s mother passed away almost a year ago and before she died, she revealed to Lexi the identity of her father. Growing up, it was just Lexi and her mom, and they had a really close bond. Her mother had a brief relationship with Brian Brannon but they only lasted a few months as Brian’s wife had passed away not too long before they started dating and he didn’t feel at the time that he was ready to move on with someone new. Lexi’s mother found out a month after their break-up that she was pregnant and she never made Brian aware. Now it’s almost a year after Lexi’s mom has passed, and she is seeking out her father and half-sister, Gray, in hopes to form a relationship with them so that she is no longer alone in the world. When she meets with Brian, he is naturally shocked at first but something about Lexi calls to him. He feels deep inside that she is indeed his daughter and this man is just incredible. He never for a second thought Lexi was an opportunist, looking to get her hands into his bank account. He happens to be quite perceptive because Lexi is a very independent woman who prides herself on being able to support herself without any assistance. She works at a local coffee shop and a couple of nights a week she also sings there as well for extra cash. While Brian is more trusting, Gray turns out to be the skeptical one and is slow to warm up to Lexi.

While the family drama unfolds, Lexi and Roman do end up running into each other a couple of times and the attraction between them is undeniable. Roman is beyond intrigued by Lexi because she makes him work for her attention. This is something he’s not used to. He’s never been the least bit tempted to have a committed relationship with a woman until he starts spending time with Lexi and she has him longing for love and companionship. He barely has a relationship with his parents being that they were both workaholics and he was shipped off to Hockey camp at the tender age of thirteen. He’s never really formed close lasting relationships with anyone. These new feelings scare him but no matter how hard he tries he can’t seem to stay away from Lexi.

Lexi and Roman aren’t the only ones starting a hot new romance, Brian ends up meeting Lexi’s feisty and stunning boss, Georgia Mack. Georgia is a forty-seven-year-old single woman who knocks the sixty-one-year-old Brian on his ass. I found myself getting excited every time we got to their chapters in the book. Georgia is a spit fire and has absolutely no filter. Brian is described as a silver fox with a bit of a stuffy demeanor but once Georgia gets her hands on him, she easily melts his cool exterior!

There is definitely plenty of angst and a healthy dose of steam all around to keep a reader highly entertained with this one!! ROMAN releases on February 21st! Make sure you one-click!

Landon Rhodes aka Nova is a gorgeous 22 yr. old guy who’s a professional snowboarder that’s all about speed, adrenaline & the rush. He’s an extreme sports junkie & a four times X Games medalist. He’s part of a team called the Renegades that are like family to him. They are currently filming a documentary while on a Study at Sea program on the cruise ship the Athena. They perform stunts for their YouTube subscribers & are all over social media.

Landon is especially reckless since he made the difficult decision to walk away from the love of his life about two and a half years ago. He screwed up his only chance at love, & now only has endless hook-ups. Nothing could fill the hole in his soul, but sex seemed to momentarily dull the pain. He was forever haunted by her memory & what could have been. She was still all he could think about. Then suddenly he see’s her, and it feels like he can finally breathe again.

-There wasn’t a single nerve in my body that didn’t come alive at his nearness.

-This intense connection that strung us together would always be there. Buried, burned, or frayed, but never destroyed. Landon was always going to call to me.

-The things this man did to my body with just his voice were criminal.

Rachel Dawson is stuck on a Study at Sea program for the next six months with the only guy she’s ever loved. The one she gave up everything for & then he broke her heart. When she was eighteen he didn’t choose her, & made her feel she wasn’t good enough. He abandoned her & it destroyed her. She won’t be vulnerable again or let him close enough to hurt her. Her plan is to ignore him & avoid him, but it’s easier said than done when he’s everywhere she turns.

Landon wants a second chance with Rachel. He wanted her to forgive his stupid mistakes & was determined to win her heart again. He sets out to prove to her he’s not going anywhere this time, & she’s his top priority. He wants a fresh start & is prepared to be patient. He makes it his mission to remind her how good they are together. Soon Rachel can’t resist him or deny her feelings any longer. Things heat up between them and we get some angst, seriously delicious moments and a beautiful love story.

-My heart reminded me that I was going to have to fight for this woman with every weapon in my arsenal if I wanted her. And damn, I wanted her. Craved her. Needed her.

-I was still fucking wild over her.

-“There’s no one in this world who loves her like I do.”

-She owned me.

REVIEW – LOST IN BETWEEN (Finding Me #1) by KL Kreig

SYNOPSIS

We all have one.

A price.

That magic number that will get us to agree to do anything, be anything.

Don’t sit on your gold-plated high horse and say you don’t because you do. Everyone does. Each of us has something we covet enough that we’d sell ourselves to have it.

What’s my tipping point, you ask? Apparently a cool quarter mil will do the trick.

What does one do for 250 large, you wonder? Anything the infamous, gorgeous playboy of Seattle wants. For the next four months I’ll be Shaw Mercer’s arm candy, his beck and call girl, his faux girlfriend. I’ll be his to command, mold, push and pull in any direction he sees fit.

I’ll fight falling into bed with him. I’ll fight falling in love with him even harder. I’ll fail at both. And when my past and present collide in the most unexpected of ways, I’ll learn that while one man’s love for me has never died, the only man’s love I really want will never be mine.

*If dirty-talking, dominant alphas are not your thing, move along. Mature, 18+ only. Book 1 in a 2-part duet.

*****2.75 STARS*****

lostinbetween_teaser4

LOST IN BETWEEN is a combination of Pretty Woman meets Fifty Shades of Grey, except that I didn’t find the story to be nearly as enjoyable. Rave reviews of KL Kreig’s previous book and the gorgeous cover for this one, had me dying to get my hands on this story. Maybe I went in with my expectations set too high. I just never could connect with the story.

The hero, Shaw Mercer, is described as a billionaire playboy who is the object of every woman’s desire but whose affection is nearly impossible to obtain. This man has no problem getting any woman he wants and he dabbles in quite a bit of sexual debauchery, including having threesomes with his equally hot business partner, Noah Wilder. I was excited to get a taste of a menage with two heterosexual men enjoying and sharing one woman among them but was so disappointed when it never happened. The synopsis alludes to a triangle but the other man turned out to be someone I hadn’t expected and who just came out from left field. I would have preferred the other love interest to be who I had envisioned when I first started to read this story. I won’t give away my thoughts on that so as not to spoil it for those who plan on reading this. I was disappointed again when Shaw turned out to be far from the alpha male he was described as in the beginning of the book. For most of the story, he acted like a jealous, obsessed and lovesick puppy dog. He was literally wrapped around the heroine’s pinky.

Shaw’s father is a politician who is up for re-election and because Shaw’s sexual escapades make for bad press, his parents order him to settle down with a girlfriend. His friend Noah helps him by hiring a beautiful young woman who works on the side as a paid escort to help pay for her ailing mothers in home nurse and other medical bills. Willow Blackwell is a beautiful young woman who is haunted by the untimely deaths of both her sister and her father. She carries the weight of the world on her shoulders as she is the only one left in her family with the sole responsibility of caring for her mother who has developed advanced Alzheimer’s. She works part-time using her voice for audio books of romance novels and also as paid arm candy to lonely but wealthy men. She doesn’t sell her body, just her companionship. Shaw is shocked when he is introduced to Willow, as they had already met during a minor fender bender days before. Their attraction is almost instantly ignited and burns hotter than anything they’ve ever experienced. The deal they make is to pretend to be a couple for a few months till his father’s election. Shaw makes it clear that at the end of the three months, they’ll be going separate ways. Well, the guy couldn’t be more fickle if he tried. He says one thing but he pushes her every chance he gets to bare her soul to him.

Shaw’s constant come-ons became increasingly less sexy to me and at times I found his vocabulary to be that of an eighty-year-old proper English butler. He was hardly coming off as a dominant alpha male to me. I couldn’t even feel a connection to Willow’s character either. She just seemed one dimensional to me.

This could be a case of where “It’s me and not the book”, but I won’t be continuing on with this series. I still plan on giving this author a chance as her other books have gotten some pretty outstanding reviews. Maybe I just picked the wrong book to start off with.
