COACH LONG is yet another uber naughty and over the top May/December romance that is a part of K. Webster’s Taboo World. This author continually pushes the limits and while I often find the plot of these books over the top, I can’t deny they are also wildly entertaining. I think there has only been one book I really didn’t love at all in this series but more often than not I am a huge fan of this author’s works.

It seems like all of the men in this imaginary town who are near or over forty can’t seem to keep it in their pants and nothing seems to turn them on more than eighteen-year-old girls. In reality, most of us would find this disgusting and appalling but put this in a naughty erotica book and we put our morality to the side.

River Banks is eighteen years old and has proven to be quite dangerous for her calculus teacher who also happens to be coach of the track team. From the moment Coach Long lays eyes on River he’s having inappropriate thoughts and she can sense she has an effect on him. So she pushes the envelope whenever she’s around him and soon these two are getting down and dirty and throwing caution to the wind by carrying on in the boy’s locker room and his office.

The things that they do are completely dirty and I have a hard time believing these things could happen outside of this fictional world. I can’t deny that I did have fun reading this story and it only took a couple of hours to get through.

REVIEW – COMFORT ZONE (Awkward Love #4) by Missy Johnson

SYNOPSIS

Walking into Jake’s bachelor party to see my professor motorboating a stripper?

Talk about Awkward.

It wouldn’t have been so bad if I wasn’t completely hot for the guy. I had been since I first walked into that feline anatomy class and saw him performing chest compressions on a Persian cat named Andrew. All I could think about was how I wanted to be the next creature to slither under those strong, masculine hands.

It was every woman’s dream, right? Finding a man who knew how to handle a pussy.

So, as I sat in that strip club and knocked back my third tequila, I started thinking… I should make a move on him.

When our eyes locked over the busty blonde stripper who was gyrating against me, and he smiled, it was all the encouragement I needed. I politely pushed her aside, stood up, and walked over to him and…

I’ve got no idea what happened next. I knew there was a reason I avoided drinking tequila.

Judging by the way he’s smirking at me as I walk into his class on Monday?

I’m not sure I want to know…

COMFORT ZONE, the fourth installment in the ”Awkward Love” series is a romance between a Professor and his student that is filled with many embarrassingly hysterical moments. It seems that everyone loves to get a good laugh at the Heroine, Becca’s expense. I was wondering if she really had any true friends but Becca can dish out as good as she gets. This might be my favorite of the series so far. I never laughed as much and I loved both Liam and Becca. Their chemistry was smoldering.

At twenty seven, Becca decides to pursue her dream of becoming a Veterinarian. She quit her job, moved back into her parents home and is attending university on a scholarship. For the past six months she has had a huge crush on one of her professors and during his class, she’s been IM’ing her girlfriend about all the dirty things she’d like to do to him. To her sheer horror, he confronts her one day and advises her that all instant messages are being monitored and come through to his laptop and he’s known about all her naughty IMs since the very beginning. If a hole could open up and swallow her at that instant, she would consider it a blessing.

Then that night when she’s at her best friend’s bachelor party at a strip club, who should she see but her sexy Professor and he wastes no time in teasing her about what transpired between them in class. Becca decides to get stupidly drunk and let’s just say the instant messages pale in comparison to the embarrassing acts she takes part in at the strip club.

Somehow the two end up on a road trip to Vegas to pick up Liam’s ninety-seven-year-old Granny and her cat, while also going to Becca’s parents’ second wedding ceremony. There are sure to be many laughs when there’s a wild Granny on the loose who loves to gamble and stir up trouble.

This was a super fun read with just the right amount of panty melting steam thrown in to tie it all up nicely.

A game of seduction between two best friends goes deliciously wrong in an irresistible Oxford Novel that brims with wit and sexual tension. Library Journal hails Layne’s work as exemplary contemporary romance.”

Brit Robbins knows that dating in New York City is hard—she just hoped to have it mastered by age thirty. But after yet another promising suitor says they have no sparks, Brit decides it’s time to torch her dating game and try a new plan. Hunter Cross has always figured there’s nothing his best friend Brit can do to surprise him. But Brit’s request is a surprise he doesn’t see coming—and one he’s definitely not prepared for. ”I THINK I LOVE YOU” is the fifth and final installment of the Oxford series. The conclusion to the series ends with one of my all-time favorite tropes — ”friends to lovers”. While I found the story to be a sexy and enjoyable read, at times it was a little frustrating as well. I couldn’t wrap my head around how two educated people who were the best of friends could be completely clueless about their own feelings.

I have loved the Stiletto and Oxford series and am really sad that they’ve come to an end but I think it was definitely time. As all of the old characters made appearances in this book, at times I had to go back to my old reviews to remember who some of the characters were. It’s hard to keep up when a series has been going on for almost three years and there are long breaks between each installment’s release. But that being said, I have enjoyed each and every book!

Brit and Hunter are best friends and co-workers. Brit has been having the worst luck with men lately. She hasn’t felt that special spark with any of the guys she’s dated but has tried to give them a chance because she’s ready to settle down but they always end up breaking things off with her claiming that they feel more of a friend vibe for her. She’s completely at a loss as to what she is doing wrong and so she enlists the help of her best friend Hunter to teach her the art of dating and how to drive men wild. Hunter is reluctant at first, but soon he’s on board with Brit’s plans.

Hunter suggests that they go on a date so that he can see Brit in action and give her a few pointers but it’s on that first date that they’re both starting to feel a little more than friendship for each other. Things are slowly starting to heat up between the two but they never seem to be on the same wavelength and don’t seem to be able to read each other, as well as they, claimed to have because it’s obvious to everyone else that it was only a matter of time before they got together romantically.

Hunter has never gotten involved with anyone seriously because he knows someday he’s going to move back to Kansas to help run his father’s company. His heart is where his family is and he’s always known that his time in New York was only temporary. He never wanted to mess up his friendship with Brit but now that she’s starting to mean so much more to him–how will he be able to let her go when the time comes for him to return back home?

REVIEW – THE ACCIDENTALS by Sarina Bowen

SYNOPSIS

A YA novel from USA Today bestselling author Sarina Bowen.

Never ask a question unless you’re sure you want the truth.

I’ve been listening to my father sing for my whole life. I carry him in my pocket on my mp3 player. It’s just that we’ve never met face to face.

My mother would never tell me how I came to be, or why my rock star father and I have never met. I thought it was her only secret. I was wrong.

When she dies, he finally appears. Suddenly I have a first class ticket into my father’s exclusive world. A world I don’t want any part of – not at this cost.

Only three things keep me going: my a cappella singing group, a swoony blue-eyed boy named Jake, and the burning questions in my soul.
There’s a secret shame that comes from being an unwanted child. It drags me down, and puts distance between me and the boy I love.

My father is the only one alive who knows my history. I need the truth, even if it scares me.

*****FOUR STARS*****

Under the lavender sky, I feel transported to someone else’ life. As if I’ve stumbled here in a dream.

I’m thinking I need to make it a point to read some more YA novels. I forgot how angsty and entertaining they can be. THE ACCIDENTALS is a story about a teenager whose world is rocked to its core when her mother dies of cancer and she comes face to face with her father for the first time in her life. This story is both heartbreaking and frustrating at the same time. I enjoyed this one so much but there were aspects of the story that I wish the author had spent more time exploring.

Rachel is about to turn eighteen. Her mother died about a month before her birthday. Her father is a famous musician and she’s known about him almost her entire life, but he’s never been a part of hers except for the monthly checks he would send her mother. Her mom hardly spoke about him and she obviously held some deep feelings of resentment towards him. So when he shows up to finally claim her as his after almost eighteen years of absence, Rachel is going through inner turmoil. She’s excited because deep down he has been her hero. She’s followed his career and is in love with his music. But she feels as if she is betraying her mom by spending time with him and having actual feelings for him as well.

Her father is able to get custody of her and takes her to California with him during her summer break before she goes off to boarding school on the East Coast. Here’s where I was feeling like the story needed more. The time they spend together went too fast for me and it seemed like they spent more time apart than actually together. I felt that if he really was remorseful for having missed out on practically her entire life, he should have made every effort to spend more time and get to know the child he left behind for his career. This was the part of the story that intrigued me the most. There were so many questions that needed answers. I wanted Rachel to get some closure. I hoped for her to get the love from the man she always dreamed would claim her as his.

There is a romance between Rachel and the boy she meets in prep school. It was definitely sweet and I loved Jake for Rachel. I had only hoped that aside from meeting this really amazing guy that she would also be able to work through all the baggage that the years of separation from her father had created. I can’t say that it doesn’t happen. It just all felt a bit rushed and I wasn’t happy with how Frederick’s story develops. I see how it was used to help Rachel find her voice, but it could have been done differently. I found myself getting angrier as I read on because of the things that happen later on in the story with her father. I wanted to love the guy but I found him lacking.

I have no doubt that Sarina Bowen and YA fans will enjoy this one! I have to admit, I found it hard to put down. I think it would have been a five star read for me if that father/daughter relationship had been developed further.

REVIEW – BROKEN LOVE STORY (Love Series #3) by Natasha Madison

SYNOPSIS

Samantha:

I had the perfect life; a husband who loved me, and two kids who were my world.
Until someone else answered his phone and my perfect life shattered.
When he died, I was left with answers he couldn’t give me and a box full of lies.

She made me promise to move on, promise to find love again, but I broke those promises because I can’t move on.

Two broken souls brought together by tragedy and heartbreak.
Can a broken love story be fixed?

*****Dee’s Review*****

Five Healing Stars *****

I simply adored this book. Samantha who was also a victim of Eric’s horrible actions decided to become a survivor instead. And Blake, the man with the broken heart; went from being her lifeline to her salvation. Beautiful!!!!!

Samantha too, thought she finally had the life she always dreamed of. After being born a crack baby, and growing up alone in the system; she had a handsome husband, two beautiful children and had married into a sweet family. But when the awful lies of her husband come crashing down, her reality goes from sweet to sour in an instant.

Her husband had unlawfully married another woman and had been living a double life for months. Her in-laws turn on her for wanting to purge the cheater from her life, and when she’s feeling alone and desperate the only one there for her is the “other woman’s” brother, Blake.

Blake had loved and lost, and it’s been years since he’s even thought about even looking at another woman. But when he meets Samantha, something inside her eyes, struck deep within him, and he can’t seem to stay away from her.

Blake and Samantha become close friends. He is helping her heal from the terrible ordeal her husband left her with after dying, but little did he know that she would also be healing his broken heart.

I love how the bad actions of one man could cause such an amazing chain reaction of love. We get three different love stories, from all different angles but equally stunning and sweet. As a reader, you can’t help but fall in love with every single one. I’m soooo happy I read this series.

REVIEW – THE DOWNSIDE OF LOVE (Blue Line Duet #2) by Meghan Quinn

SYNOPSIS

This isn’t a story about a love triangle. There is no triangle involved.
This isn’t a story about an accidental pregnancy. Although having a baby with her . . . I would.
This isn’t a story about lies and deception, even though at times I’ve lied to myself.

No, this is my story.

A story about sacrifice.
A story about a man who fell in love with the wrong girl.
A story I wish I never had to tell.

This is a story about the true meaning of the downside of love.

The downside of love is heartache and uncertainty, but the upside of falling is finding an everlasting love that will carry you through a lifetime of happiness.

I’m unequivocally head over heels in love with Meghan Quinn’s writing! I enjoyed the first book but even when I finished it, I was thinking I tend to love her romantic comedies so much more because I get her sense of humor, BUT, I will admit I was so wrong!! THE DOWNSIDE OF LOVEblows the first book out of the water and totally made me a believer in Meghan Quinn as an author who can deliver across multiple genres!! I can’t even begin to express how much this book touched my heart. I stayed up way past my bedtime last night because there was no way I would get any sleep until I knew how the story unfolded for everyone!! Quinn delivered an EXQUISITE conclusion to the ”Blue Line Duet”!!

At the end of the first book, I was so angry and already passing judgment. I should have known that this author wasn’t going to take the expected path with the continuation of the story. I loved how it all unfolds in book two. Totally unexpected and completely PERFECT!! I have read a series that took a similar approach and that was a five ++++ read for me too. I like when the author surprises you and makes you see things in a completely different light and now I know if this had been told any other way, I don’t think I would have felt so strongly about this book!!

This is one EPIC love story filled with CRUSHING ANGST!! I’ve got to prepare those of you who don’t have the strongest of hearts to be able to deal with that, but I think what you need is a nice glass of wine and a good buddy to read along with you that can get you through the rough patches! This is a duet that should be added to everyone’s TBRs!!

REVIEW – DISGRACE by Brittainy C. Cherry

SYNOPSIS

Each day I prayed for my husband to love me again.

After fifteen years together, he walked away from me, and into the arms of another.

I didn’t know how to cope. I didn’t know my worth. I didn’t know how to exist without him by my side.

All I wanted was for him to come back to me.

Then, Jackson Emery appeared.

He was supposed to be a distraction for my mind. A summer fling. A confidence boost to my bruised heart.

We were perfect for one another, because we both knew we wouldn’t last. Jackson didn’t believe in commitment, and I no longer believed in love. He was too closed-off for me, and I was too damaged for him.

Everything was fine, until one night my heart skipped a beat.

I didn’t expect him to make me laugh. To make me think. To make my sadness somewhat disappear.

When our time was up, my heart didn’t know how to walk away.

Each day I prayed for my husband to love me again, yet slowly my prayers began to shift toward the man who wasn’t right for me.

I prayed for one more smile, one more kiss, one more laugh, one more touch…

I prayed for him to be mine.

Even though I knew his heart wasn’t destined to love.

*This book was previously known as Between the Notes.*

*****FIVE STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

His kisses felt different, more real than the fictional story we’d been telling one another every single day for the past few weeks. He hadn’t said the words, and I hadn’t either, but our kisses felt like we were begging for a little more time. A few more touches. A few more skipping heartbeats.

I’ve come to expect nothing short of perfection when I pick up a new book by Brittainy C. Cherry! Each time she never disappoints me. Her stories are filled with so much heart and what I’ve learned is that her characters are multi-dimensional. Every time I’ve hated one or more of her secondary characters for their cruelty, in the end, we learn what made them that way and there’s always room for redemption. So I try not to hate some of her characters, but in this one, it was truly a test of my patience!

Grace Harris and Jackson Emery are from completely different worlds and in their small hometown of Chester, one is considered royalty while the other is the black sheep. But both Grace and Jackson know a thing or two about being abandoned by the ones they love most and it has left them broken. Grace has come home to Chester to find solace in the arms of her family while she tries to mend her broken heart over her failed marriage. But the only people who are there to comfort her are her sister and the most unlikely person of all, Jackson Emery.

Jackson and his father have been the town outcasts for as long as he can remember. He was never made to feel welcome. Throughout his childhood, he was bullied severely and the only comfort he found was in the arms of his mother and getting the unconditional love from his loyal dog, Tucker. When his mom died, his life went with her. His father turned to alcohol and became a shell of the man he used to be. Jackson’s life was no longer his own. He stayed in a town full of people who hated him and wished him gone only because he made a promise to the one person who mattered the most to him. Years of misery has hardened his heart and he’s accepted his role as the town bad guy.

When Jackson and Grace meet, he is his usual rude and belligerent self. Grace is a little taken aback by his behavior but she’s not like the rest of the town in that she is not quick to pass judgment. She can sense there is more to his story. Grace is a people pleaser. She’s always been taught to act like the perfect young lady and never to act out and the town simply feeds off her current misfortune. The way her marriage has scandalously ended has become fodder for town gossip. Jackson ends up coming to her rescue on more than a few occasions when she finds herself in a deep panic attack.

Grace and Jackson wind up having a steamy summer romance that they both agree can be nothing more than a temporary fling since Grace goes back home to Atlanta when summer is over and Jackson is not the type of man that does relationships. Spending days and nights talking about their likes, dislikes, dreams and sharing their love for books, will soon have them realizing their hearts are far beyond entwined.

Will they be able to walk away when they have finally found their true soulmates?

REVIEW – WANT YOU by Jen Frederick

SYNOPSIS

Bitsy: I might be only nineteen, but I know what I want. It’s Leka Moore. I don’t care that he took me in when he was barely more than a kid himself. I don’t care that he raised me. I don’t care everyone thinks being with him is wrong. I know we belong together, and the only person I need to convince is him.

Leka: I found her in the corner of a dark alley. If I hadn’t taken her with me, she would’ve died that night—or maybe worse. Before I knew it, she became the light in my dark life, the haven from the madness. I watched her grow up. I tried to teach her right from wrong. Now that she’s an adult, I’m feeling things that no good man should ever feel. But then…I’ve never been a good man. I have a chance at redemption by saving her from the greatest danger of all—me.

I crash to my knees beside the mattress. Apprehensive eyes meet mine. I don’t know what she sees, but the brakes are off this train and we are barreling down the track. The future is unknown, but at least we’ll be together.

When I saw the cover and read the blurb, I knew I couldn’t pass this one up. I was not expecting it to be such a dark and gritty story that would have me chomping at the bit to get to the very end! I had no idea that Jen Frederick could write a dark story so well! I’m used to her sports romances and YA collaborations with Elle Kennedy. Well, I officially have another author to add to my automatic read list! WANT YOUis a sexy and addicting dark romance that completely consumed me. I was rooting for Leka and Bitsy to give in to their desires for each other and while the premise of the story may seem a little far-fetched, I couldn’t help but fall in love with Leka and Bitsy’s romance.

Leka and Bitsy were children who were abandoned and left to fend for themselves on the mean streets of the inner city. At twelve-years-old, Leka runs odd jobs for the local pimps and drug dealers who work for the mafia. One night he comes across a tiny five-year-old girl who is huddled and trembling in a dark and dirty alleyway. Something about her tugs at his heart and he ends up taking her in and from that moment on he becomes the girl’s savior and entire world. And the little girl, he names “Bitsy” becomes the only person who matters in his life. Leka will do ANYTHING to provide a safe home and environment for Bitsy. He wants a better life for her that won’t ever be tainted by the job he has or the people he must associate with. He does the unthinkable that takes a little piece of his soul away from him each day, but in his heart, he knows it’s what’s best because it will provide Bitsy with a better life.

This will be hard for some people to accept. He acted like a guardian to her for most of her childhood but things change after Bitsy’s eighteenth birthday. You have to remember he was a child when he decided to care for her. They’re only seven years apart in age. Throughout the buildup of the plot you know they are falling for each other and I completely accepted it and even was on pins and needles waiting for it to finally happen!!

But Leka works for some really evil men who would like nothing more than to find out what his weakness is and use it to their advantage. These men don’t think twice about raping and killing innocent young girls. Leka does his very best to keep Bitsy away from these people but he’s no match for a petulant teenaged girl’s stubbornness. There were times I wanted to throw my iPad against the wall when Bitsy would end up doing something completely stupid that put both their lives in danger.

Will these two lovers be able to beat the insurmountable odds that are stacked up against them?

REVIEW – ASHES OF THE SUN (The Gathering of The Sun #1) by A. Meredith Walters

SYNOPSIS

I was raised to believe in things you can’t see.

It is the foundation of everything. I am taught to accept the unacceptable. To embrace the terrifying.

To give everything to my family.
To my church.
To my god.

Because I have a purpose. I have been trained for my calling for as long as I can remember. As an acolyte for the Gathering of the Sun, I am taught that my life isn’t my own. I worship. I serve. And when the time comes, I will greet my fate with open arms and a sin free heart.

People call us a cult.

We are judged. We are ridiculed and reviled. Pastor Carter tells me they will be lost when the end comes. So we hide ourselves away from their sick and dangerous world. And my soul is safe because I follow the path.

I am the perfect disciple. I am confident in my devotion.

Until doubt arrives wearing the face of a boy I never expected to love.

Bastian doesn’t follow the path. His destiny is his own. He paints me a picture of a beautiful world. His words contradict everything I have been told.

He invites me to live when I have been prepared to die.
He gives me something new to believe in.

Love becomes the ultimate crisis of faith and now I am torn between two futures.
One that saves my soul.
And one that saves my heart.

My eyes fluttered closed. I tilted my head up. And when he kissed me it was everything all at once. It was joy and passion. It was fear and devastation. It was the pulling apart of my entire existence. It ended parts of me I hadn’t realized were broken.

I’m not really a huge fan of books about cults. It’s hard to believe that there are people who would give up everything they own and blindly follow someone who is clearly taking advantage of people when they are at their weakest. But I know this author is pretty amazing and she was able to hold me captive for just a few hours with her latest story.

Sara is one of the devoted members of the Gathering of the Sun. She wasn’t always the perfect follower. Dragged into this life by her mother when she was only nine, she couldn’t understand the weird customs of Pastor Carter and his flock. Sara was punished and basically brainwashed at a very young age after many acts of defiance on her part. Now at nearly seventeen years of age, she has become one of Pastor Carter’s chosen ones. But when two brothers show up one night to join the Gathering, Sara starts to question her blind faith.

Bastian’s older brother David was an Army Ranger and was stationed in Afghanistan. He witnessed the deaths of nearly all of his friends who he was out on a mission with. He gets sent home a different man. Plagued by depression and PTSD, his family is struggling to find a way to help him. David ends up seeing some of Pastor Carter’s sermons online and decides he wants to join the Gathering. Bastian goes with his brother in hopes of being able to talk him out of it but once they get to the compound, he is left with no choice but to join with his brother.

Sara is intrigued by Bastian. She knows that he is only there to watch over his brother and any claim to wanting to join the Gathering is a bunch of bull on his part but she convinces the Pastor to let Bastian join. At first, all these two do is bicker. Bastian is really good at pushing all of Sara’s buttons but then things start to take a different turn between them and she begins to question her life at the compound.

The two end up falling for each other and they’re playing a very dangerous game with some pretty psychotic people. Things take a heartbreaking turn and all I can say is that I’m curious to see what’s in store for this couple in the conclusion to this gripping story.

REVIEW – GETTING SCHOOLED (Getting Some #1) by Emma Chase

SYNOPSIS

Head of the class…

Garrett Daniels has this whole life thing figured out.

The cocky, charismatic former high school star quarterback is an idolized football coach and “cool” teacher in the hometown where he’s not just a golden boy—he’s platinum. He has good friends, a great house on the lake, and the best damn sidekick a man could ask for: Snoopy, the albino beagle.

Then…Callie Carpenter comes home.

And knocks him right on his tight end zone.

Back to school…

Callie has a pretty sweet life herself…on the other side of the country. But circumstances—that she’d prefer to never speak of again—have brought her back home, helping out her parents and substitute teaching at her old high school.

Now she’s facing bickering, raging hormones, constant gossip, awkward weirdness, and drama galore…and that’s just the teachers.

Just like old times…

When Garrett offers to show his former high school sweetheart the secrets of his winning teacher ways, Callie jumps at the chance—and then has to stop herself from jumping him.

Good friends are all they can ever be.

Or…these teachers just might end up getting schooled—hard—by love.

I ache when I look at him. Ache to stay, ache for him to follow…ache to keep whatever this is between us long after the end of the school year. But does he want that too? And if he does…what does that even look like with Garrett in New Jersey and me in California?

GETTING SCHOOLED is a sexy and funny story about two high school sweethearts who after nearly two decades apart, get a second chance to get it right. Emma Chase has been one of my top favorite authors since I read ”TANGLED”. Her writing and sense of humor is the bomb dot com! If you read this one you’ll get that little joke. But seriously, if you’re a huge fan of this author as I am, then you’re going to fall in love with Garrett and Callie’s story.

Callie Carpenter finds herself back in her hometown of Lakeside, New Jersey, after having lived out in California for nearly twenty years. She was accepted to the University of San Diego and right after High School, she moved to the west coast which is where her career has kept her. She had to put her career on hold and rush back home when both of her parents were injured in a car accident. She ends up getting a job as the substitute theater teacher at her local high school in order to be able to pay her bills back home. On her first day, she will run into the one man who her heart hasn’t been able to let go of in all of the years she’s been away…Garrett Daniels.

Garrett was the high school’s star quarterback and he and Callie were the ”IT” couple. They were inseparable and when life took them in different directions and put them on opposite ends of the country, they decided to part ways. It was a heartbreaking decision and nearly two decades later, neither of them has found a new love to move on with. As luck would have it, they’re both single. The two strike up an easy friendship as if no time has passed. Before they know it, Garrett and Callie are picking up right where they left off back in their high school days.

The end of the school year is fast approaching and when it does, Callie will be returning to her life in San Diego. Garrett is the well respected and loved high school football coach and history teacher. Twenty years later they’re both faced with the same dilemma. Their lives are on opposite sides of the country. But this time around they know what they have is a once in a lifetime type of love. Will they be able to say goodbye this second time around?
