Blurb:

The first time I met Ian Kemp in the sparkling blue waters of St. Thomas, I was six years old and we shared a summer beneath the stars.
The second time I met Ian Kemp, he was a shell of the boy I once knew. Turbulent and infuriating, he refused my friendship at every turn. Like me, he was a casualty of life’s cruelty, but we were planets apart.
We’d both sought refuge on the island, hoping to find our anchor. Instead, we found each other and managed to reclaim our stars…until we both got swept away.

About the Author:

A Texas native, Kate Stewart lives in North Carolina with her husband, Nick, and her naughty beagle, Sadie. Boy Toy

By

Sarina Bowen & Tanya Eby

Summary

A new romantic comedy from your favorite snort-laughing duo!

Liam
The moment Sadie Matthews walks through the daycare center door, I feel my world tilt in her direction. Again. I fell for her when I was fourteen, and I’m still not over her. Problem: she still thinks of me as a teen she used to babysit. But I’ve learned a few things about pleasing a woman in the last fifteen years. I can’t wait to show her how good it could be. I need to move quickly before I lose her again. This is more than a game to me, but I still plan to win.

Sadie
I’ve just survived the worst year of my life. As a single mom of twin toddlers, I don’t have time for a man. I barely have time to finish a thought. Who knew that Liam McAllister would grow up to be so devastating? He’s everything my husband was not: tall, built, and willing to have a tea party with my girls.

I can’t possibly get involved with him. He’s too young for me. Too handsome. But he’s so persuasive…

When you grow up in the most feared mafia family, it’s easy to identify the kind of men that are bad news.

They’re the ones with experience.
The ones with secrets.
The ones that exude sex just by saying your name.

From the minute I laid eyes on Lorenzo, I knew he wasn’t just bad news.
He was the headline.

My opinion didn’t change on our second meeting.

Or our third.

But my head and my heart are at war.

He’s too mysterious, too gorgeous, too wild, and now, he wants me.
I should run far away.

LIVE – THE DOWNSIDE OF LOVE (The Blue Line Duet #2) by Meghan Quinn

THE DOWNSIDE OF LOVE – July 1st

This isn’t a story about a love triangle. There is no triangle involved.

This isn’t a story about an accidental pregnancy. Although having a baby with her . . . I would.

This isn’t a story about lies and deception, even though at times I’ve lied to myself.

No, this is my story.

A story about sacrifice.

A story about a man who fell in love with the wrong girl.

A story I wish I never had to tell.

This is a story about the true meaning of the downside of love.

WRAPPED UP IN READING’s REVIEW OF GETTING SCHOOLED

High school parking lots are one of the most dangerous places on earth. I don’t have statistics to back that up…but I know it’s true.

I pull into the school parking lot Monday morning in my Dad’s giant, newly repaired mint-green Buick, with Back in Black by AC/DC blasting from the speakers. I feel tough, powerful—like I’m driving a tank.

I’m a badass teacher—I’ll run you down even if you’re a student—I’ve got twenty-nine more in class just like you.

The outfit helps too—leather boots, blue jeans, a starched white blouse and a black leather jacket. It’s my armor. The morning air is cool and crisp today, but I barely feel it. I’m locked and loaded and ready to roll.

As I march towards the main entrance, I spot Garrett and Dean and Alison Bellinger outside the doors. They pause when they see me, waiting.

“Damn,” Dean chuckles. “Callie’s got her shit-kickers on. Did you dig them out of a mosh pit from 1993?”

Garrett crosses his arms. “Somebody’s channeling Michelle Pfiefer in Dangerous Minds.”

He looks fantastic. His hair is tousled from the breeze and kisses his brow, and he’s wearing a dark blue sweater that’s snug around his biceps and soft, worn, light blue jeans. I remember his arms around me yesterday on my parent’s porch. The wonder and exhilaration of the moment.

Of him.

The intensity in his eyes, the desire and possessiveness in the grasp of his hands. The scorching feel of his mouth, his wet talented tongue that made my stomach swirl and my head spin.

So much for not complicating things.

But I’m not going to play head games with myself or Garrett—we’re too old for that shit.

I have feelings for him—I always have—our break-up had nothing to do with either of us not wanting each other desperately. But these aren’t just leftover echoes of a sweet, first love—this is something new. A throbbing, breathless attraction to the amazing man he’s become. I want to be near him. I want to know him, inside and out, all over again.

And he feels the same way. Garrett wants this version of me as much as he always did—maybe even more. I heard it in his whispered words and felt it in his kiss.

I don’t know if we have a future, if it can go anywhere. We have separate lives on opposite ends of the country. But I’m not going to worry about that—for now, I’m going to take each day as it comes and enjoy every moment we can.

Except for now. Now is not the time for enjoying or worrying or relationship building…now is the time for focusing. Now is the time to be ice and steel—don’t smile, don’t waver.

“Little fucknutters don’t know who the hell they’re dealing with,” I growl.

Allison pumps her fist. “That’s the spirit.”

Garrett opens the door for me. “Go get ‘em, Gangster’s Paradise.”

Title: Whiskey Girl
Author: Adriane Leigh
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: June 26, 2018

Blurb
She was
the one thing holding him together. Until she was gone.
And then
there was whiskey.
Fallon Gentry has spent the last decade reliving one dark night in
his head. The moment he lost the woman he loved when a single blink cascaded
into a series of events that stole both of their lives. Now his nights are
spent playing music in southern honky-tonks and nursing the memory of her the
only way he knows how–at the bottom of a whiskey bottle.
A brief stint in Nashville, a hit song, and a brush with Hollywood
couldn’t bring him closer to God, but when the ghost of Augusta Belle Branson
appears in his corner of another lonely dive bar late after dark, he’s forced
to confront everything he thought he knew about that fateful night, and a few
things he didn’t.
He’s her
contradiction, she’s his salvation.
A firestorm of emotion consumes them when they come together after ten
lost years, every moment more revealing, more unpredictable, more intoxicating
than the next until the only reckoning left for Fallon is the one he must make
with himself. But this time, fate may have left an after-burn too bitter to
swallow. This time, he may lose his whiskey girl for good.

Excerpt
One
Fallon
The first time I met Augusta Belle Branson, she was fixin’
on killin’ herself.
Said the minute I’d walked up, she was tryin’ to decide if
jumpin’ off the bridge in the center—where the water was deep and the current
stronger—would be a swifter end, or if she should jump near the edge, where
jagged limestone slabs anchored the slow-moving current.
Certain death for sure.
I replayed the split second when the Indian summer sun burst
through the orange oak leaves, a halo of warmth enveloping her.
Like an angel. Stardust sparkling straight from heaven,
ploppin’ her in my path.
And then she turned, the most startling shade of liquid
amber eyes breathing something real and alive, like fire, into my soul.
That same something I’d been runnin’ from—or chasin’,
dependin’ on how you looked at it—just about every day since.
I settled myself on the lone wooden stool that awaited at center
stage, my thoughts drawing back to the present. My head swam, but the old
familiar chords floated on through the current of whiskey in my blood, and I
strummed the first few notes of a song I wrote a lot of nights ago by an act of
sheer muscle memory.
Old acoustic guitar resting on my knee, my first and third
fingers in position on the strings, the opening chords of “Whiskey Girl” bled
from my fingers.
Every chord, another dagger.
Every whispered lyric, my undoing.
I still didn’t know what the fuck had overtaken me the night
I’d written this song in a fevered rush.
Well, the booze might have played a part, but I happened to
think my best shit came out of uninhibited states.
I’d just had a fuckton of uninhibited states recently.
And the harder the liquor, the more she haunted me.
Whiskey Girl.
My poisoned lullaby.
The crowd of a few hundred erupted into a standing ovation
when I ended with the final, emotion-charged words.
The irony of this song was it was the one that’d launched my
career. The first single to hit radio waves and then the top spot on the
Billboard charts, and brought reporters, music executives, long-lost family
members I wasn’t even really sure I was related to, and too much other scum
with an end game that carried dollar signs to my front doorstep.
I’d moved to Nashville a rising star and left two years
later, middle finger in the air as I tossed my once-promising music career out
with last night’s liquor bottles in favor of the open road.
Chasing something.
Not finding the one thing I needed.
Playing local honky-tonks for a fraction of the money I
could have made.
But the truth was, the road was the only place I could find
my happy.
A familiar ball of pain formed in my throat as I stood,
pushing my guitar over one shoulder and bowing deeply. I couldn’t see a single
face behind the glaring stage lights, but still, some part of me pretended she
could be out there, that I was singing to her.
That she would hear her song and find her way back to me.
After hundreds of faceless crowds and too many bottles of
Tennessee whiskey to bother counting, I still felt the pull inside me to travel
to every town in America if that’s what it took to find her.
Hell, maybe she was happily married with a few kids, a dog,
and a fucking minivan by now.
I nodded my head, giving one last wave to the crowd in the
dark beyond, then left the stage, taking the steps two at a time and angling
past the curtains to head for the tiny-ass dressing room this dive bar
provided. Heading for another chug of amber gold before packing my shit into my
truck and hitting the road.
I pushed a hand through my hair, thinking maybe a shower
would be in order before I bailed, when a curvy little thing backed right up
into me.
My palms landed on her shoulders, warm blond waves falling
in a cascade over one side. The heady scent of peaches and honey filled my
nostrils. My eyes slammed closed and brought me back to summer nights under a
giant oak, fireflies melding together with the stars above like a painting.
“Sorry, I just dropped my phone.” The sweet-scented creature
spun, brilliant smile falling from her face when our eyes made contact for the
first time.
Every coldhearted memory slammed into my chest like a pallet
of bricks.
I narrowed my eyes, gaze tracing the familiar yet unfamiliar
angles of her porcelain face.
She was thinner now, cheeks sharp slashes of bone that
highlighted her always-devastating round eyes and full lips. It was her, all
right. I’d know this woman anywhere.
“Hi, Fallon.” I’d been dreamin’ of this moment for the
better part of a decade, and still, my heart wasn’t prepared for those two
words. My name on her lips left me with a toxic reaction.
My whiskey girl.
My damnation and my salvation.
“I need a fucking minute.” I dropped my hands from her
shoulders, her skin still haunting my fingertips, and walked straight down the
narrow hallway, pushing the rusted back door open so hard the hinges protested.
Warm night air filled my lungs, replacing the empty feeling
seeing her again had left.
“Fallon…” Hell, she’d followed me out.
And hell if wanted her to, but I didn’t not want her to
either.
The emotions bombarding my mind were just a-fucking-bout
unbearable.
“I said I need a fucking minute.” The sentence came out as
more of a growl than I intended. Before she could reply, I stomped across the
potholed parking lot, aiming for my heavy-duty Ford.
I yanked the door open, digging behind the driver’s seat for
a fresh bottle of my favorite recipe.
I couldn’t be bothered to retrieve the half-full bottle I’d
left in my dressing room. I had to get as far the fuck away from her just to
clear my head and process what her being here even meant.
My hands circled the neck of the bottle, and I opened it in
a flash, chugging back the first warm bite of pleasure I’d been craving.
I tossed the cap on my dash and fished the keys out of my
pocket, about to climb into the cab and make hay, when fingertips painted a
dark navy filtered into my vision and back out again, my goddamn truck keys
hanging from one finger.
“Fuck,” I bit out, crawling out of the cab and swiping for
the keys.
My reactions were a helluva lot slower than I thought they
were. How much of that bottle had I drunk before the show? I shook the thought
from my head, realizing this was probably about close to my average state of
play on any given day. Runnin’ away from the life Augusta Belle and I’d had
took something out of me. Something only whiskey could fill.
“I don’t care what your stupid ass does on your own time,
but you’re not dying on mine, Fallon Gentry.”
My head pounded then. A whole fucking sentence out of her
pretty pink lips, and my body’s old dependable reaction to her infuriating
every cell of me.
I’d never been in control when it came to Augusta. Shouldn’t
have been surprised it was no different now.
“As irritating as ever, I see,” I said, swiping for my keys
one more time and missing before I stumbled off around her, whiskey bottle
clutched in my hand and hell on my mind.
Augusta was back, and there wasn’t enough whiskey in the
state of Tennessee to help me deal.

LIVE – DISGRACE by Brittainy C. Cherry

DISGRACE_RELEASE BLITZ

Disgrace, an all-new romantic and emotional standalone from Brittainy C. Cherry is LIVE!

bcherry-disgrace-amazon.jpg

Synopsis:

Each day I prayed for my husband to love me again.

After fifteen years together, he walked away from me, and into the arms of another.

I didn’t know how to cope. I didn’t know my worth. I didn’t know how to exist without him by my side.

All I wanted was for him to come back to me.

Then, Jackson Emery appeared.

He was supposed to be a distraction for my mind. A summer fling. A confidence boost to my bruised heart.

We were perfect for one another, because we both knew we wouldn’t last. Jackson didn’t believe in commitment, and I no longer believed in love. He was too closed-off for me, and I was too damaged for him.

Everything was fine, until one night my heart skipped a beat.

I didn’t expect him to make me laugh. To make me think. To make my sadness somewhat disappear.

When our time was up, my heart didn’t know how to walk away.

Each day I prayed for my husband to love me again, yet slowly my prayers began to shift toward the man who wasn’t right for me.

I prayed for one more smile, one more kiss, one more laugh, one more touch…

I prayed for him to be mine.

Even though I knew his heart wasn’t destined to love.

I sit down in the desk chair and lean back, balancing on the hind legs like my mother always told me not to. I fold my hands behind my head, put my feet on the desk, and sigh with contentment. Because life is sweet.
It’s going to be a great year.
They’re not all great—some years suck donkey balls—my best players graduate and it’s a rebuilding year, which means a lot of ‘L’s’ on the board, or sometimes you just get a crappy crop of students. But this year’s going to be awesome—I can feel it.
And then, something catches my eye outside the window in the parking lot.
Someone.
And my balance goes to shit.
I swing my arms like a baby bird, hang in the air for half a second…and then topple back in a heap. Not my smoothest move.
But right now, it doesn’t matter.
I pull myself up to my feet, step over the chair towards the window, all the while peering at the blond in the navy blue pencil skirt walking across the parking lot.
And the ass that, even from this distance—I would know anywhere.
Callaway Carpenter. Holy shit.
She looks amazing, even more beautiful than the last time I saw her…than the first time I saw her. You never forget your first. Isn’t that what they say? Callie was my first and for a long time, I thought she’d be my only.
The first time I laid my eyes on her, it felt like getting sacked by a three-hundred pound defensive lineman with an axe to grind. She looked like an angel. Golden hair framing petite, delicate features—a heart-shaped face, a dainty jaw, a cute nose and these big, round, blinking green eyes I wanted to drown in.
Wait…back up…that’s not actually true. That’s a lie.
I was fifteen when I met Callie, and fifteen year old boys are notorious perverts, so the first thing I noticed about her wasn’t her face. It was her tits—they were full and round and absolutely perfect.
The second thing I noticed was her mouth—shiny and pink with a bee-stung bottom lip. In a blink, a hundred fantasies had gone through my head of what she could do with that mouth…what I could show her how to do.
Then I saw her angel face. That’s how it happened.
And just like that—I was gone.
We were “the” couple in high school—Brenda and Eddie from that Billy Joel song. The star quarterback and the theater queen.
She was the love of my life, before I had any fucking idea what love was…and then, still, even after I did.
We broke up when she went away to college and I stayed here in Jersey—couldn’t survive the distance. It was a quiet ending, when I went out to visit her in California, no drama or hysterics. Just some hard truths, tears, one last night together in her dorm room bed, and a morning of goodbye.
She never really came home again after that. At least, not long enough for us to run into each other. I haven’t seen her in years—in a lifetime.
But she’s here now.
At my school.
And you can bet Callie’s sweet ass I’m going to find out why.

WRAPPED UP IN READING’s REVIEW OF THE UPSIDE OF FALLING

Head turned down, pushing the sleeves of his white Henley up his arms, he swaggers toward me. His jeans hang low on his hips, held up by the same brown belt he wore the other night. His narrow waist directs my eyes to the center of his jeans, and I can’t help wonder what might be behind the crotch of his pants.

And then there is his chest. Barrel like, broad and prominent. His thick biceps showcase his strength, and the fabric of his shirt stretches over his shoulders and forearms. Having spent a lot of time at the gym, I’ve seen every body type, but Colby’s is different. He’s strong, built, but not like a body builder. His body seems to suggest the only kind of weight he’s been lifting is his own body, pushup after pushup. I can’t imagine there being barbells in his workouts, but I can imagine logs, cadets, and heavy machinery. He has working muscles, the kind you earn from hard, dedicated work on the field. In a word? Impressive.

Walking up to Stryder, he grips his friend’s shoulder and says something into his ear. A smirk crosses Stryder’s face before he moves over to our side of the bowling alley and takes Colby’s place.

Is he leaving? Already?

Might as well at this point. It’s not like he’s going to talk to me, not after my pathetic attempt at a bet. I should have known I was going to hang out in the gutter all night. It’s where I usually am when I’m bowling. I blame the ball. The thing has a vendetta against me.

Sighing, I prop my chin in my hand and watch Stryder expertly toss his ball down the lane, getting a strike . . . once again. And just like every other strike, he pumps his arm up in the air and celebrates. We get it, you’re good, no need to—

“Hey.”

That voice . . .

Stunned, eyes wide, not able to move, not wanting to scare him away, I keep my eyes trained forward, soaking in that beautifully deep voice of his for a brief moment before saying, “Hey.”

“Can I sit here?”

Still keeping my eyes trained forward, I say, “Sure.”

My body tingles with awareness of how close he is to me, that fresh laundry scent invading my senses, prickling the little hairs on my arm. My body leans toward his, wanting a little more, searching for anything else he might give me. I don’t know why he’s choosing to engage me in conversation, but I’m sure as hell not moving while he does.

“Sorry about tonight,” he says and he actually sounds sincere.

“Why are you sorry?” I mumble.

Reaching around, he takes my cheek in his hand. The callouses on his palm rubbing against my skin is a welcome sensation. As I’m turned toward him, I steady my breathing. I’m having a hard time slowing my heart rate because of his close proximity, and the unexpected touch shooting a wave of heat through my veins.

“I’m sorry you didn’t get to ask me any questions. I didn’t think you were going to suck that bad.” A playful smile tugs at his lips, and my heart sinks to the floor. Oh God, he’s so gorgeous, especially when he smiles.

Matching his smirk, I say, “I didn’t think I was going to suck that bad either.”

“I feel bad.”

“You should.” That garners a laugh, deep and throaty, the sound cloaking me like a shield, protecting me from the outside world, bringing me into a little bubble where we are the only two that exist.

“Ask me a question.”

Shocked, I swallow hard and say, “Really?”

He nods and holds up his fingers. “You get three.”

“Oh, three? Wow, I feel like you just gave me the key to your soul.”

Rolling his eyes, he adjusts his stance on the barstool and leans back, giving us some space, our knees still knocking into each other. “Easy killer; it’s just three questions.”

“Yeah, three questions I didn’t have before.” Tapping my chin, I try to think of good questions, but now that I have him willing and waiting, nothing comes to mind. I wasn’t prepared for this, he caught me off-guard, and now I feel I can’t be strategic about my probing. “Hmm . . . what do you like to do on the weekends?”

“Jump,” he answers.

Searching his eyes, lips quirked, I say, “Uh, you’re going to have to be more specific than that. What kind of jumping are we talking here? Like jump roping? Because that seems kind of weird to do on the weekends, and if you tell me you’re in some kind of jump-roping club at the academy, I’m not going to believe you.”

His lips curve up as he scratches the side of his jaw. “Jump out of airplanes.”

Oh.

Oh.

That’s . . .

Uh, that’s really hot.

“So you just casually jump out of airplanes?”

“I’m part of the Wings of Blue, the academy’s parachute team. We jump every day, at least two to three times a day after class and before dinner, depending on wind and ceiling limits. On the weekends, some of the guys, including Stryder and me, go to Springs East Airport and do civilian jumps. The more jumps we get in, the higher the chance we’ll be considered for big demonstrations, like parachuting into football games and major sporting events for the Rockies and Broncos.” Ummmm. Did anyone else just hear how many words he gifted me? And seriously? Does the man have no clue how incredibly sexy he is when he talks about something he loves? The expression on his face . . .

“Wow, that’s . . . that’s really hot.” I chuckle. “Sorry, I don’t mean to fangirl over your parachuting, but I guess I wasn’t expecting that answer. You just jump out of planes?”

He slowly nods. “Every day.”

“Anything to get you up in the clouds, huh?”

“Yeah,” he answers shyly, rubbing his jaw. “Okay, next question.”
