SYNOPSIS:

I was born a fighter. Abandoned by my parents, I spent my life forging my own path—one guided by my fists and paved with pain.

Untouchable in the ring, I destroyed everyone who faced me, but that’s where my victories ended. Outside the ropes, I repeatedly failed the few people who loved me. Including my best friend, Liv James—the one person I’d die to protect.

Even though I didn’t deserve her, Liv never stopped believing in me. Never gave up. Never let go. After all, she understood what I’d lost, because she’d lost it too.

Liv was everything to me, but she was never truly mine.

That was going to change.

I lost my first love, but I refused to lose my soulmate.

Now, I’m on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life.

Fighting to be the man she deserves.

Fighting the solitude of our pasts.

Fighting for her.

“Keep the engine running,” I say. “If I’m not out in five minutes, leave.”

Poe nods her head, but doesn’t argue.

When the nine o’clock hour comes, both she and I watch the clock on the dashboard turn to one minute after.

“You’ll need to keep your mask on, Poesy. Make sure none of your hair is showing,” I say. “Keep your head down the entire time.”

“Okay,” she answers in a small voice.

“If you see cops—”

“I know what to do, Lowen. I know you want me to leave you.” She sighs. “But I don’t know if I can.”

Despite our circumstances, I smirk. “Hopefully you won’t have to.”

At nine thirty, Poe and I switch seats, and she gets behind the wheel while I load the pistol. With hands that shake uncontrollably, I place the ski mask over my head but don’t pull it down my face. I help Poesy with hers, tucking in every stray strand of hair so they remain unseen.

She grabs my wrist, and our eyes meet. I see fear combined with love and loyalty in her stare.

I kiss her knuckles and promise with the chance of lying, “We’re going to be okay.”

Unlike when we drove into the garage, the streets are alive and filled with a variety of automobiles, and dirty sidewalks carry several pedestrians. The forty-second drive to the bank feels like forty years. Thick blood courses through my veins, and I feel it flow through arteries and vessels, nourishing muscle and bone. My head echoes with the thump, thump, thump of my hard heartbeat. Every breath is shallower than the one before it.

“Pull down your mask,” I say, but my voice sounds foreign and feels a million miles away.

As Poe drives into California Credit Union’s parking lot, I grip the cold steel in my hand.

The edges of my vision blur; I’m blinded by adrenaline.

My skin crawls like I’m covered in spiders; I’m delirious with edginess.

“Your ski mask,” Poesy shrieks. “Cover your fucking face, Lowen.”

My girl reaches over and pulls it down for me. The car stops to a screeching halt, and reality crashes into me in a brutal rush, stripping me of air and voice.

“If we’re in this, you need to go,” Poesy says in a calm but stern tone, hidden behind her black mask.

There’s peace in her eyes.

There’s strength in the girl who stayed with me when I was locked up.

The one who’s remained by my side, believing and starving all at the same time.

With the gun in my hand and determination in my heart, I leave Poesy in the car and push open the glass double doors into the bank.

As I step foot onto the burgundy carpet, I yell, “Everyone down on the fucking floor!”

The clacking of my stilettos on the shiny marble of his penthouse floor is the only sound that can be heard between us. As I hit the button for the elevator, I feel Hunter behind me. His body heat is setting my back ablaze as he pins me with his dominant frame.  I expect him to say something. Do something. But he doesn’t. His solid chest pressed against my back, his heavy breaths hitting the outside of my earlobe.
“Please,” he finally whispers, almost like a plea.  “Please say yes to me, Lexi.” His words sending a spiral of heat down my spine. He’s barely touched me, yet I feel as if I’m going to combust. “Let me paint every contour of your exquisite body. Every curve, every dimple.” His mouth is so close to my skin that I imagine his lips on me. His warm breath caresses the back of my neck, traveling down to my collarbone. “Tell me you don’t feel just a little bit intrigued at how freeing it would be to sit for me. To expose yourself to me while I take in every part of your body and transform it into my own private masterpiece.”
I exhale audibly, my shoulders beginning to weaken. His arms lift, enclosing on each side of my now pulsating body. His strong hands press against the wall forming a barricade around me. “Tell me that you don’t agree that your body is a paradise for any man’s eyes. I need that. I need to be able to capture that beauty and paint a vision that leaves me struggling for air every time I look at it.  That is what you will give me if you say yes.”

OUTTAKE – PUCKED OVER by Helena Hunting

Profile portrait of businessman working on laptop in black suit at studio

OUT TAKE:

Usually travel days bag me, but it doesn’t matter that I’ve been on the road most of the day, or that I smell like the inside of an airplane. Lily’s in Chicago. For multiple days. And this time I’m going to have more than twenty four consecutive hours in which to get her naked.

I don’t think I’ve ever been this fucking exciting to fuck, like ever. Plus sleepovers. And pussy prison.

“Dude, I feel like I’m on the freaking Spinovator, relax,” Lance knocks his knee against mine.

I didn’t even realize I was bouncing my leg. I tap my fingers on my knee instead, but it’s not working. I’m keyed right up.

In ten minutes we’ll be at Waters’ house. I figure we only have to stay for max half an hour, then I’ll make up some excuse and take her back to my place. And then it’s a fuck free-for-all. I even bought her new panties and some fun “sleep wear” which is really just expensive scraps of lace that aren’t going to stay on very long.

I pull out my phone and send a message to Lily:

I can’t wait 4 pussy prison.

It’s another ten minutes before they’ll be here, so I run upstairs to one of the spare bathrooms and hunt down some mouthwash and deodorant so I don’t smell like crap. When I come back down, Alex is yelling for a hand with the bags.

Which means Lily’s here.

I take the stairs two at a time.

And there she is. Wearing jeans and a long sleeved shirt, face flushed, hair flipping out at the ends. I barely let her in the door before I pick her up and crush her against me. I know, without a doubt that I’m way more invested than I should be in this girl, but I can’t seem to give a fuck right now.

I’m already hard. Already thinking about how long we have to stay before I can get her out of here and take her back to my place. And maybe not give her back.

She shrieks and giggles as I bury my face against her neck and breathe her in. She smells like she’s been drinking, and her skin is warm and sweet, like it always is. I part my lips against her neck and suck, then bite my way along her neck to her ear. “I can’t wait to go to pussy prison.”

I don’t think she even realizes that she moans, or that it’s loud. I look up to find all my friends staring at me. Lance looks like he’s trying not to shit his pants, Miller and Alex both kind of look like they want to kill me right now and Darren looks amused. But all I want is a few minutes alone with her.

I spin around and survey the hall, there are three doors. At least one of them has to be a bathroom. I head for the closest one. As long as it has a lock on it, we’re good to go.

“No way, Balls!” Miller shouts. “You and Lily aren’t allowed in bathrooms together!”

I laugh and sidestep through a door. It’s not a bathroom, it’s the laundry room. Even better, there are solid surfaces.

I try to shut the door, but Miller’s leaning against it. He’s a big guy, with a good thirty pounds on me, and that’s when he’s not bulking up. But I have something I want, and she’s standing right in front of me with those luscious lips parted, looking like she wants to be devoured as much as I want to devour her.

I lean into the door, pushing hard. I still have one arm wrapped around Lily’s waist, so I set her down, giving myself the advantage.

“I need a little something right here.” I tap my lips.

Lily glances at the mostly closed door, at Miller’s shoulder pressed against it and she smiles, coy and sweet. She steps in close and runs her fingers through my hair. Her nails scratch my scalp and skim behind my ear. I feel like I’m an addict. Her touch is the drug I crave and right now I’m about to get my first hit.

She rises up on her toes and brushes her mouth over mine, tongue peeking out to touch my lip.

“Seriously, Balls, can’t you wait, like, five minutes?” Miller grunts.

“I’m just saying hello, and I’m looking for a little privacy to do that.” I shove the door with my shoulder and turn the lock, ignoring Miller’s shouts. “And now we have some.”

Lily winds her arms around my neck as I lift her up and set her on the closest surface, which just happens to be a dryer. The height couldn’t be better. Lily parts her legs for me and scoots forward, wrapping her legs around my waist. And then we start grinding on each other.

I can’t get enough of tasting her, so I kiss a path up her neck, ready for her mouth.

“You’re terrible,” she whispers, then gasps when I grab her ass and pull her tighter against me.

“I know. We don’t have to stay here long—like fifteen minutes, and then we can go back to my place where we can play until you have to go back to Canadia.”

Someone knocks on the door, it’s probably Miller, but I’m right where I want to be, so I’m not inclined to stop what I’m doing. In fact, I’m wondering how hard it would be to get her naked right now, except the knocking is a little damn distracting. I try and slide a hand down the back of her jeans, but they’re too tight.

“Why’re you wearing pants? They’re so inconvenient.”

Lily laughs, it’s breathy and soft, but she wraps her legs tighter around me and I keep on grinding. The laugh turns into a moan, and she breaks out into goosebumps.

I’m pretty much dry fucking her. And that’s when I realize, this is just like that time in the bathroom at the exhibition game. All the signs are there; the way she’s gripping my hair, the little moans that get louder with every shift of her hips, the soft whimper that turns into my name.

I slip a hand under her shirt, skimming soft, hot skin until I reach the underside of her bra. It feels like satin. Pushing the cup up, I find her nipple and brush my thumb over it, feeling the skin tighten in response.

“I seriously need you naked. It’s not even funny,” I groan against her mouth.

Clearly she feels the same way, because she starts rubbing on me harder, faster and her grip on my hair tightens even more.

I break the kiss, biting back a smile at her despondent whimper. “You’re gonna come aren’t you?”

She nods furiously. “Uh-huh.”

“I should be inside you for that.”

She groans again, gripping the back of my neck like she’s trying to get my mouth back.

But I want to see her come. I want to see what happens when I barely touch her, because I know later, that when there aren’t any clothes in the way, I get to put my mouth on her, and be inside her, and watch all those orgasms happen. Just for me.

I pinch her nipple hard and pull her in tight. I feel her toes curling against the back of my legs. Her entire body goes still for a fraction of a second, and then she shakes hard, like she’s trying to control it. But she can’t, just like I can’t control this thing happening with her. And if I don’t get to be in control, then neither does she.

Lily bites her lip, as if she’s holding in the sound that comes with the sensations, but she doesn’t have control of that either. It’s a high-pitched moan that includes my name. Her eyes are wide, her lips parted, breath coming out in sharp gasps. And the way she’s looking at me, it’s the reason I want to keep her with me the entire time she’s here.

She’s not even done coming, not even close, when the door bursts open. Her muscles are tight, and her panic is clear. “Ride it out,” I whisper.

I don’t take my eyes off her though, because watching her come is my favorite thing. Apart from just being in her physical presence.

“Oh, wow.” That’s Sunny.

“Is she—” Charlene starts.

“Oh, definitely,” Violet interjects. “Check out her toes.”

Lily looks embarrassed as fuck, but I can’t stop smiling. I’ll deal with the epic case of blue balls I’m gonna be rocking to see her lose control like that.

4 Stars!
(ARC provided by author)

In the second book in Xavier Cold & Anna Cortez’s story, it begins with the couple dealing with the consequences & aftermath of Xavier losing his temper. Another wrestler knows just how to push his buttons, & when Xavier finally snaps, it lands him in hot water with Tension. His job is now at risk, & he is worried he has ruined his chances of becoming the World Heavyweight Champion. He is put on suspension & this not only separates him & Anna, but it gives him too much time to think about his past & his future.

Xavier returns home to Detroit & has to face his past. He worries he’s not good enough for Anna, but will do anything to secure a future with her. She is everything to him. As we get some danger & complications from his old life, Xavier struggles to hold onto his job & his relationship with the woman he loves more than his life. I have adored Xavier since I read Phenomenal X & just love this couple. This man totally loses his heart to this woman & Anna sees a tender loving side of him nobody else sees. This was another fabulous book in this series & smokin hot as usual! Who doesn’t love a bad boy with a heart of gold. ;))

“So.” I glanced out the windows to the patio. “You want to go back out there?”“Not really,” she said.

“You want to get out of here?”

She grinned. “Yeah. I do.”

I watched her rush up the stairs to get her things, and as soon as she was out of sight, I adjusted myself in my pants. My dick had jumped to life the second she said yeah, I do, as if the question had been you want to get naked and fuck? rather than something much less suggestive. Not that I didn’t want to get naked and fuck—hopefully I’d last a little longer than I had in the broom closet eleven years ago—but I didn’t want to make her feel like that’s what I expected. She wasn’t a horny nineteen-year-old college student anymore; she was a doctor, for fuck’s sake. She was beautiful and smart and mature and sophisticated, and a woman like her did not want some Neanderthal who probably needed a haircut and a new pair of shoes to throw her up against a wall for a five-minute fuck.

A woman like that deserved attention all night long. She deserved someone who would undress her slowly and delight in each new inch of her skin as it was revealed. Someone who would run his hands all over her body and find out where she liked to be touched, how she liked to be touched, what she wanted to hear whispered to her in the dark. Someone who would wrap those gloriously long legs around his neck and use his tongue until she begged for his cock, then use his cock until she begged for mercy.

Fuck. I could be that guy.

Except I couldn’t be. Not tonight. Because I wasn’t a horny college student anymore either—I was just a horny single dad who didn’t have the luxury of taking a woman home and lavishing all my time and attention on her the way I wanted to.

As soon as I had the thought, I felt guilty. Scotty was the love of my life and always would be, and whenever I felt the slightest bit resentful about something I couldn’t do because of him, that resentment was immediately crushed by shame. He didn’t ask to be born wired differently, into a terrible relationship, to a mother who would decide she couldn’t handle being a parent, to a father who wasn’t prepared for any of it. He was completely innocent, and he needed me to be a better man.

Running a hand through my hair, I exhaled and wondered if I should ask Jillian for a raincheck on a night when Scotty’s usual sitter could be there. If he woke up again and I wasn’t home yet, he might never get back to sleep. We’d be up all night, tomorrow would be miserable, and the whole start to the week would be off.

But she was so beautiful. And I hadn’t been this attracted to someone in so long.

“Fuck,” I muttered, checking my watch. What was the right thing to do? If she were a different sort of woman, if her brother-in-law weren’t my friend and client, if we lived three states apart…if any number of circumstances were changed, I’d grab her hand, drag her out to my car, and spend the next thirty minutes fucking her brains out in the back seat. It would feel so good to take control that way, to lose control that way, to release some of this fucking tension. But was that fair to her?

My phone buzzed in my pocket.

“Hello?”

“He’s up again.” Monica’s voice was strained, and in the background I heard the familiar keening of a nighttime meltdown. My chest hurt, the way it always did when Scotty was upset.

“Shit. OK, I’m on my way. Twenty minutes, OK? Thirty at the most.”

“OK.”

“Tell him he can play on his iPad.”

“That’ll just rile him up more. He’s tired. He needs to go to sleep.”

I clenched my fist. “Just do it, OK? It will help calm him until I get there.”

As I ended the call, I heard footsteps above, and then Jillian appeared at the top of the stairs carrying a small suitcase. I watched her descend, the tightness in my chest growing. Also the tightness in my pants. “Hey.”

“Hey,” she said, her face concerned as she reached the ground and saw my expression. She set down the suitcase. “What’s up?”

Sighing, I put my phone back in my pocket. “I have to get home. Scotty woke up and he’s upset.”

“Oh.” She tried to hide it, but I saw the disappointment in her eyes.

“I’m really sorry. I’ll make it up to you, I promise.”

“That’s OK. I understand.”

“Can I call you?”

“Of course.” She smiled, and her lips looked so soft and inviting, I took a step closer.

If you kiss her, it will be that much harder to leave.

I knew it was the truth, but I couldn’t help myself. One kiss. Just one. And then I’ll go. I moved even closer and took her head in my hands.

The curve of her smile deepened. “What are you doing?”

“I’m thinking about kissing you.”

“Stop thinking.”

I lowered my lips to hers and let them rest there, fully intending the kiss to be short and sweet, just a goodnight.

But I couldn’t break it off. I wanted more—I wanted to taste her. Slanting my head, I changed the angle of the kiss, teasing her mouth open with mine, slipping my tongue between her lips. A little sigh escaped her, and my dick jumped to life again.

You have to go, you have to go, you have to go.

But her hands were moving up my chest and my fingers were sliding into her soft brown hair and I could smell something sweet and citrusy on her skin and it mingled with the taste of whiskey on my tongue and oh God, I wanted my tongue everywhere on her body. I wanted make her come with it just so I could hear that little sigh again and again and again. And I wanted to feel my hands in her hair just like this while she got on her knees and took my cock between her lips, looking up at me with those big blue eyes…

Groaning, I forced myself to take my lips off her before I completely lost my senses. “God, I wish I could stay,” I said, resting my forehead against hers. “I wish a lot of things.”

“I know.” She played with my tie again. “I wish I was taking this tie off you, not straightening it.”

“What a coincidence, that’s one of my wishes too.”

She laughed and kissed me quickly. “Another time, maybe. You better go.”

Blurb

From New York Times Bestselling Author, Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel.

Sharing a summer house with a hot-as-hell roommate should be a dream come true, right?

Not when it’s Justin…the only person I’d ever loved…who now hates me.

When my grandmother died and left me half of the house on Aquidneck Island, there was a catch: the other half would go to the boy she helped raise.

The same boy who turned into the teenager whose heart I broke years ago.

The same teenager who’s now a man with a hard body and a hardass personality to match.

I hadn’t seen him in years, and now we’re living together because neither one of us is willing to give up the house.

The worst part? He didn’t come alone.

I’d soon realize there’s a thin line between love and hate. I could see through that smug smile. Beneath it all…the boy is still there. So is our connection.

The problem is…now that I can’t have Justin, I’ve never wanted him more.

Author’s note – RoomHate is a full-length standalone novel. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.
