There is absolutely, positively no way a guy and a girl who live together as roommates could ever become anything more. I hoped it would, but after several clear-as-day hints, I’ve come to terms that just friends is all we’ll ever be. He doesn’t see me the way I see him.

I remembered the day I first met him. I’d nearly broke my face when I walked into a beam and his cop uniform had been stripped off in my mind. You can see his chiseled jaw under his five o’clock shadow, which gives my girl parts all kinds of weird tingly feelings and don’t even get me started on the handcuffs in his duty belt. Every time I see them, I want to handcuff myself to him.

Okay, that might sound a bit over the top and maybe even obsessive, but I swear I’m not. Drew’s been my roommate for over a year, his sister, Viola, is my best friend, and just married his best friend, Travis. Not to mention, Travis is also my boss at King Marketing, where Drew stops by to bring me lunch on a weekly basis. So we’re linked together in more ways than one and it’d be way too complicated anyway. I know this. I’ve reminded myself of this several dozen times.

But that doesn’t mean my heart has accepted the memo. I can’t help the way I feel for him and I’ve tried dating other guys to get over the pathetic crush I have, but so far it hasn’t worked. Nothing has, actually, so I just suffer in silence as I watch him give his heart to a girl who absolutely, positively does not deserve him in any way.

Mia Fucking Montgomery.

She’s the classic tall, skinny, dark-haired goddess who thinks she rules the world and everyone in it. I don’t get what Drew sees in her—okay, maybe I can—but too bad her attitude is as ugly as her botched boob job. He doesn’t see her for who she really is—conniving, manipulating, cheating, lying whore. I don’t typically shame other women for being outspoken and confident, but Mia is the exception, and I don’t even feel bad for hating her skanky guts.

All right, that might sound like jealousy and all considering I just admitted to having the biggest crush on one of my best friends, but those aren’t feelings of jealousy. Those are feelings of disdain. Take one look at Mia Montgomery and you’d feel the exact same way.

Too bad Drew Fisher is blind as a fucking bat.

All feelings aside, I hate that she’s hurt him more times than I can count and that he’s taken her back every single time. He’s the sweetest guy I’ve ever met and gives more second-chances than she deserves.

I can’t help but feeling like maybe, just maybe one day he’ll open his eyes and see what’s been in front of him the entire time. I hate that he sees me as his sister’s best friend or the southern redneck girl who prefers cowgirl boots over high heels or the loud-mouthed one who yells at the TV during football season. I’m just one of the guys to him and even though I’d rather be his friend than nothing at all, I can’t help that feeling of what if.

Coming to terms with the way things are between us comes to a complete halt the moment I wake up Sunday morning. Blurred flashbacks of the night before surface and I can’t tell if they were all a dream or if…

I peel my eyes open and see the sun glaring through the window. I hate that damn sun. And fuck that window, too. Jesus, I feel like I’ve run a 10k marathon last night. My feet are more than likely swollen from wearing those damn shoes Viola made the bridesmaids wear and I can feel the pins jabbing into my skull from having my hair done. Being Viola’s maid of honor was a blast, but between the over-drinking and the too-tight shoes, I’ll be paying for it for at least a week.

It takes me a minute to clear my eyes and realize I’m not even in my own room. I’m in Drew’s room, which could only mean one thing.

Last night wasn’t a dream.

My body stiffens because I’m too nervous to look and see if Drew is lying next to me. My heart is pounding and my head is aching from the excessive alcohol I drank last night. I don’t normally binge drink like that, but it was my best friend’s wedding reception with an open bar, so it’s not really my fault.

Okay, yes it is.

I shuffle around as quietly as possible, gripping the sheet in my fist as I turn slightly to check if I’m alone or not. Before I can look, I feel the cool fabric rub against my bare nipple. Glancing down, I see I’m completely naked and groan inwardly to myself. Searching the floor, I don’t see any of my own clothing. Fuck me.

My heart is racing so hard, I’m sure if Drew is next to me, he can feel the vibrations against the bed. If last night wasn’t a dream, and I’m naked in his bed and he’s next to me…stop panicking, I tell myself. Maybe it’s not even Drew. Maybe I brought another guy home, and I was too drunk to realize we went into the wrong room. That has to be it. Drew’s probably asleep on the couch right now waiting to curse me out for all the damage I’ve done.

Feeling a bit calmer, I decide it’s now or never. I need to take a good look at the strange guy next to me and kick him out before he thinks we’re a couple now or something. I don’t typically do one-night stands, hell I’ve barely done relationships since my ex-boyfriend, Toby, broke up with me over two years ago. The last thing I’m looking for is someone to have casual sex with, well unless…

No. I can’t go there.

Pulling the sheet up over my chest, I turn over as slowly as possible to avoid any movement on the bed, and prepare for what I’m about to see.

Or rather, who I’m about to see.

Blinking, needing to clear my vision once again just to make sure I’m seeing him correctly, I nearly gasp aloud. There’s no fucking way. This has to be one of those dreams within a dream type things because holy fuck.

I could drop a bomb without breaking a sweat, had been to war, nearly died more times than I could count, but she was the scariest thing I’d ever faced, my feelings for her sending me into a spin.

I’ve been seeing reviews of Chanel Cleeton books for some time on Goodreads and my curiosity was certainly piqued. I now understand why so many of her books have received such high ratings. Normally it takes me a few days to read a book of this length, but I literally devoured this book in less than a day!! I honestly was sucked in from the very first page. I’ve never read any romances involving Airforce fighter pilots, and now I am wondering why I waited so long!! I mean Top Gun is one of my favorite movies from the 80s!! All I kept doing was picturing “ICEMAN” while reading this book!! SIGH!! Well, let me tell you, ladies, there is an even hotter fighter pilot in town and he goes by call sign “EASY”!! He’s sure to melt the panties off of every woman who ends up reading this one! This is the third book in the WILD ACES series but can be read as a standalone. It’s a “friends-to-lovers” with a bit of the forbidden romance aspect to it.

Dani Peterson is a woman who has suffered so much loss in a short amount of time – losing her unborn child during a miscarriage and then her beloved husband during an accident while on a mission. It’s been a year and yet the pain is still very crushing. She hasn’t been able to get passed her grief. But she has found some solace from her friendship with her husband’s best friend, Alex “EASY” Rogers. The man is the hottest fighter pilot in “Wild Aces” and is a well-known ladies’ man but there is such a sweetness about him when it comes to Dani. What she doesn’t know is that EASY has been in love with her from the very first moment he saw her. But when he found out she was his best friend’s girl, he kept all of his feelings buried deep inside. He was happy just being able to be a good friend to her and he’s been there for her through some of the darkest moments of Dani’s life.

Now, after a year has passed since Joker’s death, something is shifting between Dani and EASY. Dani is starting to see Easy in a different light and she doesn’t know what to do with these new feelings. She struggles with guilt over her love for her dead husband and her fear of opening her heart up to someone new–someone who could be taken away from her just like her husband. Dani isn’t willing to go through that kind of heartbreak again.

Alex is also struggling with the new developments in his relationship with Dani. He feels as if he is betraying his best friend by going after Dani and he fears that if he pushes her too soon for something more that he could lose her all together and that’s something he wouldn’t be able to endure.

I fell so hard for Alex and every time Dani seemed to reject him, my heart broke for him. The heroine definitely had her head up her butt for most of the story but I was so engrossed and could hardly wait to see how the story would end for this couple!

She didn’t see any way they could make things work or be together without causing a scandal now that Matt would be the forty-sixth president of the United States. He needed to focus on his very demanding new job, & she needed to try to move on. Problem was, she missed him horribly and time did nothing to lessen her feelings for the beautiful man that owned her heart.

Matt Hamilton has it all, except the one person his heart desires most, the stunning redhead that consumes his thoughts. I don’t think I will ever think of a guardian angel the same way after having read LUCIAN DIVINE. Prior to reading this book my only visual of a guardian angel in my head was Frankie Avalon from the 1978 movie Grease, and that guy was never sexy to me!! Well, this story knocked me sideways!! I couldn’t help but to devour it and my heart was stolen by the sweet, sexy and intoxicating angel named Lucian. I haven’t read a paranormal romance in quite some time but this week I’ve gotten a hefty dose of the genre and I realize that I need to make sure that I read at least one a month!! I hope that this will not be the last paranormal romance that Renee Carlino writes because that would be considered a “sin” in my eyes. Now there may be some people who because of their religious beliefs, might get offended by the subject matter, and although I believe in God, I am not a highly religious person. I viewed this as a seriously beautiful and romantic fantasy.

Evey Casey is a young woman with an aspiring career as a fashion designer. She shares a loft in San Francisco with her bestie and for the most part, she is quite satisfied with her life. Except her love life has never been all that exciting. After breaking up with a guy whom she thought had potential but ended up being like all the other losers she’d ever hooked up with, she meets a stunningly handsome stranger in a bar up the street from her apartment. He’s definitely imbibed enough scotch to kill an ox but something about his demeanor is charming and very soothing to Evey. He ends up walking her home and then for some reason she’s inviting him up to her place. Lucian ends up telling her that he’s her guardian angel and although she thinks he must be insane, she isn’t the least bit afraid of him. He soon leaves her apartment but they end up running into each other again and ultimately she will learn that he has in fact been her Guardian Angel for most of her life.

Lucian is in some serious trouble with the man upstairs because he has broken all kinds of rules by revealing himself to Evey. He is ordered to erase himself from Evey’s memories, and although he does as he’s ordered somehow his attempt was not 100% effective. The fact that Evey starts to remember Lucian is not a hardship for him, he has been in love with Evey for quite some time and watching her go out with other men was literally putting him through hell.

As Evey and Lucian grow closer, a love that defies all odds blossoms between them. But as their love grows stronger, Lucian is starting to go through some changes and he’s also being shunned by other angels whom he considered to be friends. There is a dark looming cloud hanging over this couple and their future seems so uncertain.

Can the impossible become reality? Can an angel and a human have a happily ever after, especially when it goes against God’s rules?

This story had me wanting to believe in the impossible. It was heartbreaking and hopeful all at the same time. I had only read one other book by Renee Carlino prior to reading this one but I definitely know I’ll be getting to all the books I have missed by this talented author!

Lucian is a gorgeous guardian angel whose job is to protect a beautiful 24 yr. old woman who lives in San Francisco named Evelyn Casey. Evey is kind and Lucian has always felt this pull towards her. He wants her to be happy, but over time he’s found himself wanting to be the one to make her laugh & the one to warm her bed at night. Guardians aren’t allowed to reveal themselves to the souls they watch over, & definitely can’t fall in love with them. Lucian’s personal hell has been having to endure watching Evey date guy after guy. He’s insanely jealous. He’s already on probation for breaking the rules but decides to reveal himself to Evey and confess he’s her guardian angel.

Evey meets this handsome drunk in a bar one night who acts as if they know each other. He then tells her he’s her guardian angel. She goes from thinking this sexy stranger with the heart-stopping eyes & smile is the most intoxicating, stunning man she’s ever laid eyes on, to thinking he’s absolutely crazy! Evey soon learns Lucian is exactly who he claims to be & now has an explanation for this intense connection she feels when they’re together. From the moment he touches her it feels magical & right. Nothing compares to the way he makes her feel.

-He watched me with an intensity I had never seen in a person.

Lucian & Evey are together & very In love. Lucian makes Evey feel safe & loved, and she wants a future with him, but are there consequences for breaking the cosmic laws of the universe? Will Lucian get a happily ever after or will he be banished or reassigned for his actions?

I really enjoyed this book! It was my first by this author & I can’t wait to read more of her books. This was a funny, sexy read & I fell hard for this delicious bad boy angel with a heart of gold.
