REVIEW – MISTER MONEYBAGS by Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland

SYNOPSIS

A new standalone from New York Times bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward.

I met Bianca in an elevator.
She was on her way to interview me when we got stuck.
The beautiful, raven-haired reporter assumed I was a delivery guy because of the way I was dressed.
She had no clue I was really Dex Truitt, the wealthy, successful businessman she’d dubbed “Mister Moneybags”—her afternoon appointment.
Bianca told me how much she hated Dex’s type—snobby, over educated, silver- spooned men who didn’t appreciate the simple things in life.
So, after the elevator finally started moving again, I cancelled the interview and let her believe I was someone I wasn’t—a bike messenger named Jay. I loved the way she looked at the fake me and didn’t want it to end.
I began dating her as “Jay”—all the while letting her interview the real me over email.
I didn’t expect that our chemistry online would be just as hot.
I didn’t expect the mess I’d gotten myself into.
I didn’t expect that Jay and Dex would fall in love with her.
And she was falling for two men.
Only, both men were me.
And when she found out, we were both going to lose her.
Nothing could have prepared me for that day. And I certainly wasn’t prepared for what came after.
All good things must come to an end, right?
Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

4.5 Stars!

Dexter Truitt runs a multi-million-dollar empire that he took over from his father. Montague Enterprises is a venture capital firm. As the CEO, Dex eats, sleeps, & breathes his job. He’s extremely successful, but a very private person. He’s finally agreed to give an exclusive to a magazine & be more in the public eye. On his way to get ready for his interview he gets stuck in an elevator with a gorgeous woman that intrigues him. When she mistakes him for a delivery guy based on his appearance, he doesn’t correct her after she’d shared her thoughts about rich men. She thinks they act entitled & feel the world revolves around them.

Bianca George is on her way to interview Dexter Truitt aka “Mister Moneybags.” She works as a reporter for a business magazine called Finance Times. She’s assigned to cover the story for this multimillionaire. Her plans are derailed when she’s heading up to his office & the elevator breaks. She soon learns she’s stuck in the dark with a sexy sounding stranger. Once the lights cut back on she’s stunned by how gorgeous he is.

The chemistry between Dex & Bianca is off the charts. Dex wants to get to know her & makes a split second decision. He lies about who he is & says his name is Jay. He wants a shot with her & was afraid she’d never give him a chance if she knew who he really was. She made it clear she prefers the simple life. She doesn’t care about money or prestige & seems to hold a grudge against those who have it.

Dex decides to let Bianca interview him over email since he now can’t let her see him in person. They begin talking every night & become addicted to their time together. Bianca starts to realize how genuine a person Dex is, and Dex realizes what a huge mistake he’s made lying about his identity. Both Jay & Dex are falling for Bianca, and now Dex is worried he will lose her when she finds out the truth. He’s crazy about her but keeps digging himself a deeper hole pretending to be Jay. Will Bianca ever be able to fully trust Dex when she finds out he deceived her?

I really adored Dex! He’s a wealthy, powerful, beautiful man with a huge heart. He falls so hard for Bianca. This was such a fun, flirty read full of emotion. Just loved it!

*****4.5 BALLSY STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Authors}

I smiled back and looked Dex in the eyes for a long while. What was staring back at me was absolutely beautiful. Not the man himself, but looking into his eyes, I saw love in its purest form. It was honest and open and willing to give me anything I wanted.

I’m convinced now, more than before, that the writing duo of Keeland and Ward is pure MAGIC!! Each time they release a new book it’s like the ultimate torture waiting to get my hands on it but, oh, how satisfied I feel when I get to the very last word!! MISTER MONEYBAGS was nothing I could have ever expected as far as the storyline went but it definitely was highly entertaining and pretty freaking amazeBALLS!

I don’t know what it is about elevators but I love it when a romance starts between two strangers who get stuck in one together!! This is how Dex and Bianca meet, and it might not have been one of the sexiest scenes I’ve ever read, but it was damn near the funniest!! Bianca is a magazine journalist on her way up to interview one of the wealthiest and most elusive business moguls in NYC. Little does she know that the man with the sexy voice who she is stuck in the elevator with but can’t see since the lights went out, is Dexter Truitt – the star of her magazine article. There is quite a bit of hysterical and pervy banter that transpires between them, but Dex also learns that Bianca is not a huge fan of his for some reason. He decides to keep his identity a secret from her and pretends to be Jay, a man who owns his own bicycle messenger service. When the lights turn back on, there is no denying the strong physical attraction they feel for each other, and soon plans for a date are made.

Dex has his secretary call off his interview with Bianca but later on, he offers her the opportunity to continue with the interview but over text only. She can ask him anything and he’ll provide her with his answers but only if he can ask her questions of his own. With each passing day, Dex is leading a double life and digging himself into a deeper hole with all the lies he has told to cover for his alter ego, Jay. Not only is he in deep, but his feelings for Bianca are intensifying and the fact that she is attracted to Jay, has him growing insanely jealous as well! He knows he has put himself in an impossible situation when he learns that Bianca has trust issues that stem from her father’s betrayal that resulted in her parents’ divorce. She’s not a big fan of lies no matter what the excuse may be.

Bianca was a sweet, sassy, and slightly neurotic Heroine. She gave as good as she got and kept Jay/Dex on his toes. She definitely made him work for her affections! Lies are eventually exposed and Bianca isn’t quick to offer forgiveness to Dex, but the man is beyond sexy, extremely charming, and utterly determined to get back in her good graces. So this is what I thought the main plot of the story was when in fact it was just a tiny piece of the story. Shocking revelations are made that could end up causing irreparable damage and keeping the couple from ever sharing a life together. This is when things got extremely angsty and Dex’s determination to be with Bianca was incredibly heartbreaking!

MISTER MONEYBAGS released a day early!! Go on and one-click!! Get ready to laugh, cry, and fall in love with Dex and his whittling skills! He definitely carved his way into my heart!

REVIEW – TWIST (Dive Bar, #2) by Kylie Scott

SYNOPSIS

When his younger brother loses interest in online dating, hot, bearded, bartender extraordinaire, Joe Collins, only intends to log into his account and shut it down. Until he reads about her.

Alex Parks is funny, friendly, and pretty much everything he’s been looking for in a woman. And in no time at all they’re emailing up a storm, telling each other their deepest darkest secrets… apart from the one that really matters.

And when it comes to love, serving it straight up works better than with a twist.

*****Mel’s Review*****

5 Stars!

Alexandra Parks is a 29 yr. old graphic designer from Seattle. She’s sort of been a hermit for years. She never puts herself out there or takes chances romantically. She avoids intimacy & prefers her life uncomplicated. She doesn’t do relationships, but she’s been talking to a gorgeous man on the internet named Eric Collins. She’s crushing on him hard & they seem to share a strong connection. They’ve been talking for months through emails. Even though Alex is somewhat terrified of the outside world, she decides to step out of her comfort zone to meet him. Eric is beginning to mean something to her, and she just has to see him in person. She decides to be spontaneous, & buys a ticket to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She plans to show up at his birthday party and surprise him. When Alex shows up to meet the hot guy she’s been emailing, she soon learns he has no clue who she is.

Joe Collins set up an account for his younger brother Eric on a dating site. When his brother loses interest & decides he doesn’t want the account anymore Joe tells him he will shut it down for him. Then he spots Alex Parks, & they begin talking. She’s funny & beautiful, and he immediately gets sucked in. He looks forward to talking to her, & it’s often the highlight of his day. When Alex shows up in the Dive Bar where he bartends, the jig is up, & his big secret is revealed.

Joe wants Alex to stay in Idaho for a few days & figure out what’s between them. They shared chemistry online, & he just wants the chance to get to know her in person, even if it’s just as friends. He liked talking to her & has grown to care about her.

Alex is shocked that the man she thought she was talking to is someone else. Instead of Eric, it’s a huge, blond, Bigfoot lumber sexual with a beard and tattoos. He’s totally not her type, even though her libido hasn’t got the memo yet. Clearly the guy is hot, with his big muscles & long golden mane, but she’s more into pretty boys wearing a suit & tie.

Joe convinces her to stay a few days & spend some time together since she’s already there. She’s extremely attracted to his body, & his kindness also gets to her. He’s so sweet & eventually her walls all crumble, and they give in to their lust for one another.

Alex’s plans of not wanting to get involved with anyone go right out the window as she falls for Joe. Being with him is so easy & they just click, until circumstances have Joe pulling away. Just as Alex begins opening herself up to the possibility of more, things get complicated between them. Then there’s the fact they live in different states. Will love conquer all?

I loved this book & adore this series! Joe Collins is a sinfully sexy bearded hottie with a heart of gold. This man is so gentle & swoon worthy. I fell hard for him from the start. Can’t wait for Eric’s book up next!

-This man was so beautiful.

-The man affected me in all the ways.

-He had a rather spectacular body.

-In bed, there was an edge to Joe that worked for me like crazy.

-The man had me mesmerized. I couldn’t have looked away from him if I’d tried.

-Joe Collins had my heart whether he wanted it or not.

REVIEW – HATE 2 LOVERS (2 Lovers, #2) by K. Webster & J.D. Hollyfield

SYNOPSIS

***This is book two in the series. It is best if you read book one first to fully understand this couple’s story.***

She hates him and his big head.
He likes her and her big t*ts.

She hates him because she somehow ends up naked every time she sees him.
He likes her because she somehow ends up naked every time he sees her.

She hates him because the big oaf knocked her up with his kid.
He likes her because she’s carrying his child.

She hates the way he gets inside her head.
He likes the way she lets him see glimpses of her heart.

Andie: I hate you.
Roman: I know…but I’m going to change that.

*****Dee’s Review*****

4.5 Crazy-Fun Stars*****

You can tell these two authors are having a blast writing together because it definitely translated into the story. Never a dull moment between Andie and Roman, these two crazy characters fight hard, but loved even harder. And I simply loved this book!!!

We know from reading the first book that Andie and Roman had been having delicious hate sex on the regular, and that now Andie is pregnant. These two love to hate each other, so imagine the chaos when they find out they are having a baby together. On top of all the confusion, Andie’s already crazy personality becomes over the top, thanks to the pregnancy hormones.

As much as these two want to try to deny it, they really, really do like each other. Roman being slightly saner than Andie, is now determined to show her how good they can be together. Roman is scared but also excited about having a family with Andie. But it will definitely be a challenge to get Andie on board with his idea.

I must admit that at the beginning of the of the story I was a bit turned off by Andie’s crazy behavior, but after learning her reasons for acting in such ways my heart softened for her.

The whole gang from the previous book is back, complementing this story even more, and making this series a favorite of mine. Tons of laughs and fantastic writing style made this book a total winner.

*****4.5 STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Authors}

We’re two stars on a collision course for each other. There is no orbiting around one another like some sweet love story. Our story is different. Our story is explosive. Our story is chaotic. Our story is my favorite.

This series is funny, steamy, and utterly addictive! Each book is about a different couple but they all make up one crazy and wonderful family, so there is no way you cannot read this series in its entirety! I knew from the wildly hysterical scenes between Roman and Andie in book one, that this book was going to possibly become my favorite in the 2 Lovers series and I was not disappointed in the least. This couple’s relationship is extremely volatile but their sexual chemistry is off the charts HAWT, which made this one hell of a fun and unputdownable read for me! I hope that K. Webster and J.D. Hollyfield will continue to work on projects together for many years to come.

Andie has just dropped a major bomb on Roman by blurting out that she’s pregnant. Up until that moment, their relationship had been strictly sexual – this being more of Andie’s doing than Roman. Andie is a spitfire and as prickly as a porcupine. She’s not an easy woman to love because of the impenetrable wall she’s built to protect her heart. Her father abandoned Andie and her mother when they needed him the most and for years he made no attempt to reach out to them. When her mother died, Andie vowed that she would never give her trust and heart to a man, like her mother had. She saw the devastation that her father caused and does not want history to repeat itself. This pregnancy is not something she ever dreamed of for her future but slowly the promise of a happily ever after is starting to become something Andie hopes for.

Roman is EVERYTHING in this book! This man was absolutely PERFECT for Andie. He was sweet, patient and oh so very sexy. His only mission in life seemed to be to make Andie happy. Roman knew exactly how to handle her crazy mood swings because he realized that deep down, she loved him as much as he loved her and that her abrasive personality was just a protective mechanism. I ate up every moment that this man graced the pages of this book. He honestly could do no wrong in my eyes. I adored how hard he fought to win Andie’s heart and how it was effortless for him to make her his number one priority over everything else in his life. Not only was he extremely sexy but he was the one who brought upon most of the comic relief and a man who is inherently funny is beyond swoon worthy in my opinion!

HATE 2 LOVERS is currently available! Make sure you bump this up your TBRs! You must read the first book if you haven’t done so already, you’ll want to find out how Andie and Roman first meet!

The Gravity of Us by Brittainy C. Cherry

Release Date: April 13th, 2017
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Graham Russell and I weren’t made for one another.

I was driven by emotion; he was apathetic. I dreamed while he lived in nightmares. I cried when he had no tears to shed.

Despite his frozen heart and my readiness to run, we sometimes shared seconds. Seconds when our eyes locked and we saw each other’s secrets. Seconds when his lips tasted my fears, and I breathed in his pains. Seconds when we both imagined what it would be like to love one another.

Those seconds left us floating, but when reality knocked us sideways, gravity forced us to descend.

Graham Russell wasn’t a man who knew how to love, and I wasn’t a woman who knew how to either. Yet if I had the chance to fall again, I’d fall with him forever.

Even if we were destined to crash against solid ground.

5 Maktub Stars!
(BR with Dee)

-“Air above me, earth below me, fire within me, water surround me, spirit becomes me.”

Lucy Palmer is a 26 year old woman from Wisconsin, who was deeply affected by the loss of her mother a few years ago. She has two sisters but is only close with one of them. She is the free spirit of the three of them. Always the one to be strong for everyone, but also the one that feels everything. She’s gentle, passionate, and lives life to the fullest.

Graham Russell is a well-accomplished author who writes horror & thrillers. He’s closed off & driven by his career. He doesn’t get emotionally involved or attached to anyone. He was hurt so badly in his past he shut off his feelings. He lacked people skills, & believes everyone eventually leaves anyway, so why let anyone get too close.

Lucy & Graham are complete opposites who unexpectedly cross paths & begin sharing moments. Over time their lives are connected & intertwined. As they spend time together, Lucy begins to affect his frozen heart. He was cold & shut down, and she was loving, open, and full of warmth & emotion. Graham finds himself wanting to be more like Lucy. Her joy is contagious. She’s goodness & sunshine, and he can’t help falling for her. As his feelings continue to grow, he lets her into his heart. She teaches him how to feel again, & trust in another person.

-She was the girl who felt everything, and I was the man who felt nothing at all.

-She was always smiling. She had a smile that reminded me of my past, a beautiful smile filled with hope.

-She wore her heart on her sleeve, and I kept my heart wrapped in steel chains deep within my soul.

-The beautiful girl who felt everything. Her emotions weren’t what made her weak. They were her strength.

-I wanted to know what it meant to be a part of her world. To be a man who felt everything. I wanted to hold her, but still have her move freely in my arms. I wanted to taste her lips and breathe in a part of her soul as I gave her a glimpse of mine.

What happens when you meet your soulmate at the wrong time in life? Two people who were destined for one another, but it seems the world deemed them a mistake. An accident not meant to be. Graham isn’t supposed to be Lucy’s to love, but she can’t help what she feels for this complicated, tragically beautiful man. Lucy is off limits to Graham, but she’s the only one he craves and needs like his next breath.

I absolutely adored this book! Brittainy Cherry’s words touch my heart like no other. She writes unforgettable, unique stories that stay with you and make you feel. I love this series so much!

-“Being around you does something strange to me, something that hasn’t happened in such a long time.”

-“What happens?”

-“My heart begins to beat again.”

-We weren’t supposed to feel this way. We weren’t supposed to fall for one another, she and I. Yet it seemed gravity had a way of pulling us closer.

-“You were the first and only thing that ever made my heartbeats come to life.”

-Being beside him always felt right to me. Like home.

FIVE BILLION STARS *****
(BR with Mel <3)

There’s not enough beautiful words in the dictionary that could describe this book. Graham and Lucy took me hostage into their vibrant world, where love was able to give color and hope, even to the darkest of hearts. This story made me forget where I was, who I was, and what I was doing; I was only feeling, so many emotions flowing through me at once, I was helpless to the amazing words of this author. The Gravity Of Us is an unforgettable novel that will live on for years in the hearts of its readers. This book has such a meaningful and beautiful message that it could inspire a powerful song, make a wonderful movie, or even be an uplifting poem that can help anyone get through hard times. This book is everything, an absolute must read!!!

Lucy and Graham are absolute opposites, where she is light, he is dark, she wears her heart on her sleeve, but he’s taught himself not to feel.

Lucy’s mission has been to keep her family together after her mom passed away. Lucy has two sisters whom she adores, even if they sometimes make it hard to love them. Lucy is always looking for the bright side, even in the worst of situations, and she’s been through enough of those, but she’s always ready to face the hard times with a smile. And funny enough, it’s when Graham is going through a really hard time in his life that he meets Lucy.

As much as Graham needs Lucy, AKA “annoying hippie chick” he tries and actually pushes her away a few times. But every time he calls for her, she’s there. Lucy’s heart is so warm that she ends up thawing Graham’s. These two start to form a bond that you just know, right away that will last forever. They learn so much from, and with each other, and the beauty of their relationship is blinding, yet you can’t look away.

If you ever meet author Brittainy Cherry you’ll notice how she glows, her beauty and her heart shine so brightly so it’s no wonder why you can see that glow shimmering through her stories as well. I’ve read a lot of her books, and they always blow me away. And just like the rest of her stories, The Gravity Of Us has so much heart and soul inside its pages, and anyone who reads this book will bask in the beauty of this amazing story.

*****FIVE BAZILLION STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

Right after we soared to our highest heights, we descended and crashed to our lowest lows—but not before his air became my breaths, not before his earth became my ground. His flames were my fire, his thirst was my water, and his spirit?

His spirit became my soul.
Then, we prepared ourselves for goodbye.

If you’re looking for perfection, this book right here is it!!!

After having read several of Brittainy Cherry’s books, I am convinced that she is currently one of the greatest writers out there! Her words come together to create some of the most heart-achingly beautiful characters and stories. I am not even sure that I could come up with a review worthy enough to express just how much this story affected me! All I can say is that this might possibly be my favorite installment in the Elements series. The author truly saved the best for last. I doubt anyone who picks up this book will not fall madly in love with the utter beauty that lays within these pages.

Lucy Palmer is the youngest of three sisters and out of the three, she is the one who is most like their mother. Her mom was a free spirit, always on the move and nearly broke for most of their lives. She never gave her daughters financial stability but she more than made up for it with her unequivocal love that she had for them. Before her mother dies, she asks Lucy to take care of her sisters because she knew out of the three sisters, Lucy was the one with the biggest heart which had the capacity to love deeper than her two siblings. Their mother’s death strengthens the bond between Lucy and her sister, Mari but, their oldest sister, Lyric, ends up walking out on her family to build a life for herself.

Years later Lyric comes back into Lucy’s life but it’s not under the best of circumstances. Lyric, ‘aka’ Jane, is now a lawyer and married to a very successful but abrasive best-selling author of horror. She’s just given birth to a baby girl, who is almost three months premature. In a state of panic and because Jane does not have a maternal bone in her body, she ends up abandoning her husband and child without a backward glance. And Lucy, being the beautiful person that she is, comes to the aid of her sister’s overwhelmed and socially inept brother-in-law, Graham Russell.

At first, the relationship between Graham and Lucy is beyond awkward and strained. Graham is a very prickly man and not at all easy to be around. Once the story unfolds and the many layers are peeled away from his course exterior, we get to see what made this man turn as cold as ice. What’s even more beautiful is just how much capacity Graham’s heart has to offer undying love. He eventually sees what so many others took for granted in Lucy and all he wants is to shower her with the love she has always been searching for.

At first, it will be hard to fathom how Graham and Lucy can ever end up together because of his marriage to her sister and the fact that Lucy has a boyfriend. I will say this, I never for once felt that “cheating” was ever an issue in this story. They didn’t jump into anything lightly and there was definitely a slow and tender build to the romance, and yet never did I feel like things needed to happen sooner, and there wasn’t one single moment that I wasn’t absolutely captivated by this story.

THE GRAVITY OF US is currently available! Make sure you get to this one asap! This is one of those books that will leave an indelible effect on your soul.

Ain't-He-Precious-FOR WEB-newWelcome to Whynot, North Carolina, population 3,872. It has one stoplight, one bar, and the one-and-only Trixie Mancinkus.

Eleven years ago, Trixie graduated Harvard Law, turned down a job offer from one of the most prestigious law firms in Boston, and headed home to Whynot to open her own firm. Not only did she leave behind the big city, but she also left her boyfriend of three years. And just so we’re clear… that would be me.

So what am I doing in Whynot at this very moment? It seems Trixie needs help with a legal case and for some insane reason, she called on me for assistance. I’ve been in town for five minutes, and I’m every bit as out of place as I feel. Trixie is all sweet, southern curves to my tailored suits and high-priced haircuts. It’s a culture clash of north versus south and about the only thing we have in common is our physical attraction to each other.

But I have a new motto since coming to Whynot: When life hands you lemons, all you need is a little sex and sweet tea to make things better.

Catfish

Suddenly, my pole jerks in my hands, and I instinctively snap the tip upward into the air. I feel something catch as the pole bends in an extreme arc.

“Holy shit,” I exclaim as I sit up straighter in the boat.

“That’s a big one,” Pap says, and Trixie laughs with delight. “Now… keep the rod up and reel it in.”

I plant my feet hard on the bottom of the boat and crank my catch in. My heart is racing because I don’t know what’s on the other end of the line, but it feels massive. I reel and reel and reel, watching as the end of the line in the water comes closer to the boat. I see a flash of grayish-brown thrash at the top of the water before the fish dives back down deep, but I keep cranking that spinner.

Pap sets his pole aside, grabs a net, and leans forward, balancing himself with a hand on the edge of the boat. I give another mighty heave on the spinner’s handle, and the fish comes to the surface.

“Oh, my God,” Trixie practically shrieks with excitement as her feet come off the edge of the boat. She leans closer to me. “He caught Ol’ Mud. I was knee high to a grasshopper the last time someone managed that.”

Pap grunts in acknowledgment, scooping the net into the water under my catch. He proceeds to pull it up, and in it is the biggest, ugliest fish I’ve ever seen in my life. Not that I’ve seen many up close and personal. I mean, I went snorkeling in the Cayman’s once, but those were all brightly colored fish with long, flowing tails. This thing is indeed the color of mud, with enormous eyes that seem to be rolling and long whiskers sticking out from around its mouth.

“What the hell is that thing?” I ask in horror.

“That’s a flathead catfish,” Pap says as he hauls him in and carefully maneuvers him out of the net with practiced efficiency. He pulls the hook out of the corner of the fish’s mouth and then holds him up for me to see.

The fish is massive and thrashes in Pap’s hands, but he grips him firmly before pushing him my way. “Want to hold him?”

I recoil slightly. “Um… no, but thank you.”

Trixie snickers behind me. “Oh, God… ain’t he precious?”

Pap snorts but doesn’t give me too much shit. “Suit yourself. Take a picture, Trixie.”

I turn in my seat and watch Trixie pull her phone from her pocket. Pap scoots closer to me and holds the damn fish up over my shoulder—which, in addition to fish, smells like mud too—and chuckles, “Smile for the camera, city boy.”

Trixie holds the phone out, grinning as she takes a picture of Pap and me as he holds that slimy, nasty-looking catfish. I know my manhood took a bit of a ding with my refusal to hold it, and I can’t say I’m thrilled that Trixie thinks I’m precious, but screw it… not going to apologize for my failure to bond with that smelly thing.

To my amazement, Pap leans over the side of the boat and slides it gently into the water while murmuring, “Until we meet again, Ol’ Mud.”

“You let it go?” I ask incredulously. While the thing was scary looking as all get out, I’ve eaten catfish before and it’s delicious. I have also witnessed Catherine’s cooking firsthand, and I bet she’d do heavenly things to that fish. Besides… I thought that’s what you did in the south. You hunted shit and you ate it.

“Ol’ Mud’s been in this lake for years,” Trixie says by way of explanation. “He’s rarely been caught, but we always release him. He’s like an icon around here. The fact that you caught him, and in the morning, is amazing.”

“Really?” I ask, a small pattering of pride thumping in my chest.

“Flathead’s normally sleep during the day, usually down under lake debris,” Pap explains. “They’re easiest to catch at night, but I don’t think Ol’ Mud’s ever been caught in daylight hours, right, Trix?”

“Right, Pap,” she says and then winks at me. “We might turn you into a southern boy yet, Ry.”

“I wanted to talk to you a bit more about what happened between us online,” he said, his mouth a serious straight line. “How I came to use my brother’s profile.”
Ugh. “I’m pretty sure I found out everything I needed to know last night.”
“I didn’t mean to lie to you, Alex.”
“Once is a mistake.” I crossed my legs, kicking my black leather bootie back and forth. So I was a little aggravated. Sue me. “Months’ worth of e-mails is not. You could have introduced yourself to me, Joe, told me who you really were. You chose not to. Christ, no wonder you kept putting off meeting. I should have known something was wrong.”
“You’re right. I shouldn’t try to sell you excuses.” A big sigh from my “friend.” “Truth is, I’m not used to being the bad guy. Usually I’m the one cleaning up my brother’s messes.”
“Lucky me.”

EXCERPT

“I’m writing a kissing scene!” she blurted, mentally kicking herself for screaming it in his face. “And the guy’s a complete jackass. Since my only experience with jackasses is you…” Her voice was shaky, just like her body. Could he tell how much she wanted him? How much she hated that her response was this—raw. “I-I figured you were the only one who could show me what it’s like.” Good one, Margot. Do you really have to sound so…desperate?

“What what’s like?”

“A kiss. From a jackass.”

“Got the jackass part.” He treaded water and then grabbed her by the arm and pulled her deeper into the pool until they were on the opposite end, his body pressed against hers. At least his eyes were still locked on her face. “And you’ve never been kissed?”

She rolled her eyes. “Not by someone like—”

“If you keep insulting me, this kiss won’t ever happen, Red.”

“Don’t call me that,” Margot whispered. Was she so weak that she’d forgive his abandonment for one kiss? “Please?”

“This kiss.” His calculated gaze didn’t make her feel any better about the situation. “How long does it need to be? How deep? Where do you want my hands?”

Margot’s mouth dropped open. “That’s not how kisses work! You can’t just map out the kiss. That takes all the romance out of it!”

“Oh, so you want romance?”

“Yes! No! I mean. I didn’t say that!” Her face flamed, and she sagged in defeat. Admitting she wanted romance kind of felt like she was on the losing end of the little battles they’d been having, like she was giving him an in. And if he got in, he’d only hurt her again.

“I was joking,” he said, just before his lips brushed hers. His tongue slid across her bottom lip and then sucked it for a few seconds before he slid it into her mouth and deepened the kiss.

Her lips softened beneath his gentle coaxing, and his hard thighs pressed against hers as a deep hunger awakened within her.

Oh, this was bad.

So bad.

And very, very good at the same time.
