REVIEW – MIDNIGHT BLUE by L.J. Shen

SYNOPSIS

Four Continents. Three months. Two lovers. One, broken soul

It should have been easy.
I needed the money. He needed a babysitter to keep him from snorting himself to death.
I was cherry-picked especially for him. Responsible. Optimistic. Warm. Innocent.
The worst part is that I should have known better.
Alex Winslow. British rock star. Serial heartbreaker. Casanova with whiskey eyes.
“Don’t get near the devil in a leather jacket. He’ll chew you up and spit you out.”
Guess what? I didn’t listen.
I signed the contract.
World tour. Three months. Four Continents. One hundred shows.
My name is Indigo Bellamy, and I sold my soul to a tattooed god.
Problem was, my soul wasn’t enough for Alex Winslow. He ended up taking my body, too.
Then he took my heart.
Then he took my all.

Once upon a time, a mere mortal fell in love with a rock god. You probably know this is not a fairy tale by now. Mortals and gods don’t mix.

MIDNIGHT BLUE is an enemies to lovers romance between an ultimate bad boy British rocker and a feisty and eclectic American girl. The blurb of this book is what enticed me to want to read it. I have a thing for British book boyfriends and the cherry on top was that he was a Rock God as well. I wasn’t expecting this to be so far from a swoony romance. Alex and Indie’s love story was dark and tumultuous and Alex was the epitome of an over-indulgent douchebag! It was very hard to even like his character. I tried but he was just a bit too prickly for me. Indie was the more likable character out of the two.

Indigo Bellamy has been living with her older brother, sister-in-law, and baby nephew for the past couple of years. Her parents were killed by a hit and run driver. Her brother, who had a promising pro football career ahead of him, dropped out of college in order to take care of her. Things have been pretty dismal for her family lately. Indie’s brother is jobless and has turned to drinking. His bitterness over their parent’s death is slowly tearing their family apart. Indie is desperate to find a job that will pay her enough money to help her brother and his family. She answers an ad in the paper for an undisclosed celebrity that is in need of a special personal assistant. Turns out the celebrity is none other than Alex Winslow, one of her favorite musicians. He’s about to start a world tour and the music production company wants him to stay clean and deliver a highly successful tour or he’ll be sued for millions. Indie’s job would entail being his personal babysitter. Her sole purpose is to ensure he doesn’t drink or do drugs.

Alex has scared off several “babysitters” so far and he goes above and beyond at being cruel and rude towards Indie in order to scare her off as well. But he’s met his match because she’s determined to finish the job in order to get the $300,000 paycheck that is coming to her after her three months are up. Her family needs this money desperately and she’s not about to let a spoiled and self-absorbed idiot stop her from fulfilling her duties.

After many failed attempts at running Indie off, Alex starts to see there’s so much more to the feisty little woman with blue hair and eclectic fashion sense. She starts to become his muse and during the many nights they spend together in the hallway between their hotel rooms, the lyrics are pouring out of Alex at warp speed that he can hardly get them down on paper fast enough.

During this time Alex is also constantly throwing out sexual innuendos towards Indie. He’s relentless in his pursuit but everyone also knows, including Indie, that he’s still crazy in love with his ex and that even though she’s engaged to another man, he is planning to win her back. Alex makes no promises of love and Indie knows that if she goes down this road with him, there isn’t any way that her heart will not belong to him. When Alex is finally able to seduce Indie the sex is crazed, rough, and far from romantic. I thought that Indie deserved more because she wasn’t anything like the random women Alex used in the past. While it seemed that he was using her to pass the time with until he could get his ex back, it was hard to deny that something significant was building between them.

A crazy twist is thrown into the plot and at first, it seemed so random. I thought it was a bad move by the author to do this but as everything unfolds it becomes clear that nothing is random in this story and that it was pivotal for the story’s and character development.

WRAPPED UP IN READING’s REVIEW OF THRIVE

Synopsis:

Technically, you aren’t supposed to fall in love with your best friend’s girl.

But if we’re talking technicalities, he wasn’t supposed to be cheating on her every other weekend, either.

The day I met Mira York, I knew she was off-limits. But after months of stealing side-glances while he ruined the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen, I realized there wasn’t a rule in the world I wouldn’t break to make her mine.

She chose him anyway.

I wasn’t sure how I’d ever move on, but bitterness turned into fuel for my fire.

Without Mira, I thrived.

Until seventeen years later, when she showed back up, begging for protection from the very same man she’d left me for all those years earlier.

Now, it was my turn to choose.

And she wasn’t going to like my answer.

THRIVE takes place seventeen years AFTER a love triangle.

*****FOUR STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

When a man hits rock bottom, one of two things happens.
He withers.
Or he thrives.

”THRIVE” is the sexy action-packed second installment of the ”Guardian Protection” series. Its trope is one of my top favorites–second chance romance. There is cheating involved but the fact that everyone involved is guilty of infidelity should make it easier for those who normally steer clear of this topic. I really enjoyed this one a bit more than the previous book.

Jeremy Lark and Mira York became the best of friends nearly twenty years ago while Jeremy was an Army Ranger and Mira was dating his best friend Kurt. Kurt was a spoiled rich kid that Jeremy has known since his early childhood years. He’s not the greatest guy and fidelity is a word that has never been a part of his vocabulary. During the many nights that Kurt was off cheating with different women, Jeremy and Mira would hang out as friends and talk about their hopes and dreams. Eventually, things turned intimate and they each had no clue that what was building between them was for more than just physical attraction. You’d think that after spending so much time together and throughout the many conversations they shared that they would have discussed their feelings, but that never happened. When they are ultimately confronted by Kurt and Mira is asked to choose between them, fear of not being loved by Jeremy has her picking the wrong man.

Jeremy hit rock bottom after Mira’s rejection. It wasn’t until he crossed paths with the co-founders of the Guardian Protection agency that his life took a turn for the better. But no matter how hard he tried, even marrying another woman…he couldn’t get over the one woman that took a piece of his soul. He feels as if his world his tipped off its axis when he gets a call out of the blue from Mira asking for his help.

The last seventeen years have not been easy or happy for Mira. She knew from the moment she chose to stay with Kurt, that it had been the biggest mistake of her life. Kurt got kicked out of the army and soon after turned to a life of crime which unbeknownst to Mira, he hadn’t kept her safe from his dirty dealings. After almost sixteen years of marriage, Mira finally divorces Kurt, but he’s not done infecting her life when one morning she wakes up with a gun to her head being held by one of her ex’s business associates. He kidnaps her little chihuahua and best friend and gives her three days to launder $750,000 or they wind up dead. Feeling overwhelmed, she can only think of one person to turn to. The man that she has never stopped loving–Jeremy.

Jeremy is anything but warm and comforting at first. He’s got almost twenty years of pent-up hurt and anger towards Mira. To survive his heartbreak, he had to turn to hate. His cold demeanor is like a knife through Mira’s heart. As the story progresses we learn that Kurt pissed off some very powerful criminals and Mira is in far worse danger than they initially were led to believe.

As Jeremy and Mira are forced to spend an enormous amount of time together, the hurt and anger start to subside, will they be able to confess their true feelings for each other? Will the couple get their second chance when there are threats against Mira’s life lurking around every corner?

Here are my overall ratings on the book:

Heroes: 5
Heroine: 4
Plot: 4
Angst: 3
Steam: 5
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 4

EXCERPT REVEAL – MEMPHIS by Ginger Scott

Check out the amazing excerpt of Memphis by Ginger Scott! We are so excited about this release!
Memphis by Ginger Scott
A Contemporary New Adult Romance
Release day: February 23
Goodreads

Blurb:

My mom always said it was just something about the way he moved.

The same swagger Archie Valentine wore in the ring when he took his opponents down followed him like a halo everywhere he went. But make no mistake about it—he was no angel. He was like a drug. My mother was his addict.I never understood it…how love could make you blind and convince you to drink the poison. Not until I met Memphis Delaney.

At first, it was the familiar form. He’s a fighter, built like a god from the past, the kind of man the universe doesn’t make anymore. His eyes hide a story, and every time I’m in his presence I want to keep reading him until I get to the end. And then…there’s the way he moves. His boxing is violent but beautiful, and his body is a seductive weapon. When he’s in the ring, he wears the stare of a man committed to the battle until his very last breath.

He could end me; turn me into her. Too much of him will leave me as a shadow, and I’ve lost so much of myself already.

But I have discipline. It came the hard way. Lessons learned, scars left behind, and trust stripped away from life.

I will breathe his air, but I won’t fall for a man like him. The only boxer who’s ever going to break my heart is the one who gave me my name.

EXCERPT:
“Come here,” he says, calling me with a finger.

I wait a second before giving in, letting my arms fall to my sides as I take the few steps from where I am to where he is. His hands wrap around my biceps as soon as I’m near enough and I breathe in fast, just once. His eyes widen a little.

“You’re stronger than you look,” he smirks.

My gaze is held by his when he speaks. He holds it hostage and when I start to look away, his hands slide down to my wrists and he shakes them lightly until I look at him again. His head tilts, and he waits until I get it.

I’m stronger than I look.
“Thank you,” I say, pulling my lip in tight, so afraid I’m not. I’m stubborn for certain. I’m hardened and jaded. I’m not sure if any of that makes me strong.

My muscles bend to Memphis’s will as he threads his fingers through my right ones and lifts my arm, his other hand holding my elbow into my side. He lets go of my fingers and wraps his palm over my knuckles forming a fist and then moves my entire arm forward slowly, stopping when my body lunges with it.

“Here. You lose everything…right here,” he says, stopping my fist where it is then placing the tips of his fingers on my hips.

Memphis’s eyes are intent on where his hand rests at my waist, and he pauses to take a breath, his tongue pinched by his teeth, his lips twitching up at the corners, his eyes blinking fast—all in a second.

I think about kissing him again right now.

“Your weight is already spent, and you haven’t even made impact with something yet. Think about it,” he says, eyes flitting up to mine.

I shake my head a little from the brief stare and silence we share.

“Okay,” I say, following his lead as he brings my arm back and steps behind me.

“You hit me hard, but that was without everything you have behind it. Imagine,” he begins, adjusting his hold on me, his right hand sliding down my arm and covering my hand, feet straddling one of mine from behind, his chest against my back, his breath at my neck and a thousand beads of nerves dotting my skin.

“You’re here,” he says, his voice low and right at my ear.

My eyes flutter when his left hand runs down the side of my body to my hip, and my breath hitches when he grips it more forcefully.

“Your opponent is standing right there. Do you see him?”

I nod.

“Yes,” I say, my voice barely audible.

“He’s cocking,” he says, and I giggle at the word while his nose moves closer to my skin, tickling against my ear. “You’re such a child.”

I clear my throat and wriggle my hips and roll my shoulders, all under his touch.

“You’re right, I’m sorry,” I say, still smiling.

A short breath escapes him in laughter.

“He’s about to swing, okay?” he says, coaxing me to focus.

“Trust me.” His voice falls to a whisper, and my eyes fall closed.

Memphis drives my body, the space between us gone so much that I am lying against him while standing. His hand brings mine up, tucking it close to our bodies. His fingers splay on my thigh, and my leg feels strong. He leans with me, our bodies in sync as we twist to the left, our right shoulders stretching backward, necks rolling until we’re nearly back where we started.

“His balance is off,” he says at my neck. There are no areas of my body that aren’t affected by the vibration of his voice. “You have him. He’s yours. You have balance. His is gone. This is where you win.”

His hand holds my left side still, and his right hand brings me back to swing with a tighter form than I had before. He takes me through the motion once slowly, almost like we’re just part of some intimate ballet performance, then he brings my fist back in and tucks his chin into the side of my neck.

“Again,” he says, this time leading me through the motion faster as his hand slides from its hold on my hip to my diaphragm.

“Breathe out,” he says, and I do slowly at first, but with each swing we repeat, the motion is faster.

My air escapes with my thrust, my body something mechanical now, parts working in unison until I’m able to do it all on my own.

“Keep going,” Memphis says as he steps away. My eyes flit open, and I imagine everything that has ever hurt me. I see their faces—my parents, Enoch, the angry crowds at trials, reporters.

Memphis picks up one of the pads and steps closer as I swing, bending down to hand lift one of my abandoned gloves, eventually holding his palm out for me to pause.

“Put it on, and I want you to hit me now…not like before. Hit me with what you know. Hit me with what you feel, but always there is balance. You can’t give that away. It’s not theirs to have.”

My eyes lock on his as he slides the glove over my knuckles and I form a raw fist with my other hand. He takes two small steps back and readies himself before nodding.

I clear my lungs and consider his words and everything he just led my body through. I was so strong. I’m stronger than I think I am.

My feet shift to find the perfect fit against the mat, and I bring my hands in, fists raised and ready.

“He’s going to swing now,” Memphis says, and I react just as he taught me.

I dodge. The motion so swift and natural I barely remember doing it before my legs steady themselves, my middle twists and my arm swings forward, fist landing in the same spot as it did before only this time my body doesn’t stumble. Memphis does. Inches, but there is reaction to my action.

“Ha,” I breathe out in disbelief. My eyes lift from the fist-shaped dent in the pad to Memphis, and my lips part in awe.

“Yeah,” he says, glancing around to the front of the pad. “You did that by yourself.”

Giddiness takes over my face, my mouth stretching wide with parted lips. Memphis lets the pad fall again, and the physical proof from my force disappears as the padding evens out. It was there, though. I fought back, and left a mark. More than seeing it, I felt it. I still feel it.

“I want to do that again,” I say, blinking as my vision slides from the pad to Memphis’s proud smile.

“Baby steps, Champ. Let me show you a few drills, and then maybe you can punch me one more time before we’re done,” he says, chuckling.

“I wasn’t hitting you,” I say, handing him the glove.

He holds it in both of his hands before bending down to pick up the other glove, pairing them together. His gaze hits mine.

“I know who you were hitting.” Silence settles in for a long second. I don’t have to respond; Memphis doesn’t expect it.

LIVE – xo, ZACH by Kendall Ryan

The first time we met was at a party.

Your ex arrived to show off the person he’d left you for last month, and you asked me to pretend to be your date.

I was more than happy to help. You were attractive, smart and witty–and that kiss we shared? It left me wanting you for days.

The second time we met was in my office on campus where we were both surprised to discover you were the new master’s degree student in poetry that I would be working with. You promised to be professional. I did no such thing.

The late nights and intense study sessions spent alongside you majorly throw me off my game. I want you, and I fight with myself daily over this fact.

I know I’m crass, that my sexual innuendos and dirty mouth annoy you, but I live for those two bright spots of color in your cheeks. If that’s the only reaction I can get out of you, I’ll gladly take it.

You hate Mondays so every Monday I slip an anonymous poem into your bag and your smile gets me through the week.

I think I’m falling for you, and I know it’s wrong. I know that I’m only supposed to be your adviser and nothing more, but here’s the thing. I think you’re falling for me too.

xo, Zach

“This is serious, Poppy. Will you promise?”

“What am I promising?” This man had a way of getting me to say things, to feel things, to admit things that I might not have otherwise. I wasn’t sure if it was because he was older and wiser and that much more cunning at these types of discussions, or if it was just because being near him seemed to physically lower my inhibitions. He was like a walking shot of tequila.

“I need you to promise me that if anything physical happens between us—that it will be very consensual, and very sex-positive. I need you to understand that I will worship you and make you come So. Many. Fucking Times.”

He annunciated those words so clearly and slowly, I felt them with every beat of my heart, every pulse of heat between my legs.

Oblivious to my hammering heart, Zach continued. “But I also need you to know that if I do or say anything you don’t like, all you have to do is say so and everything will stop. Just the word no, Poppy. Use it and I promise to leave you alone.”

“Leave me alone as in stop mentoring me, stop helping me in the program?”

His face was serious and he shook his head without even considering it. “I will never stop mentoring you, as long as you want it. Giving in to our attraction—or not—will never be a condition for my help. I want you to succeed, and it has nothing to do with how much I want you in my bed. Do you understand that?”

I felt myself nodding my head.

I knew what he was saying. Despite how aggressively Zach put his feelings on the subject of us out there—I knew he’d never betray my wishes.

“Okay,” I murmured.

He considered me for a long moment, neither of us blinking.

“Why did you approach me that night at the party, Poppy. Did you find me attractive?”

Was he fucking serious?

Of course I find him attractive. Actually, attractive was too weak a word. I found him mesmerizing. Addictive. Enchanting. Impossible.

“I’m not saying I do, but if I wanted something to happen …” I swallowed a wave of nerves and took a shallow breath as Zach’s mouth curved into a grin.

Something as in finding out how many times in a row I can make you come using my mouth, my hands, and my …”

I held up one hand. “Yes. That. How would it work, isn’t it, like, forbidden?”

God, why did the word forbidden make me feel even hotter?

REVIEW – KEEP HER SAFE by K.A. Tucker

SYNOPSIS

Making a Murderer meets Scandal in this story of police corruption, family secrets, and forbidden desire from bestselling author K.A. Tucker, celebrated for her “dark, twisty tale[s]” (Lisa Gardner, author of The Killing Hour) filled with “clever twists and turns” (Publishers Weekly).

Noah Marshall has had a privileged life thanks to his mother, the highly decorated chief of the Austin Police Department. But all that changes the night she reveals a skeleton that’s been rattling in her closet for years: she doesn’t deserve her commendations or her medals—in fact, she deserves to be locked behind bars for what she did to a fellow officer to save her own reputation. When she finally succumbs to the guilt of destroying an innocent family’s life, she leaves Noah alone to carry the burden of this shocking secret, which she makes him vow never to share.

Gracie Reynolds wasn’t born into trailer park life, but after ten years of learning how to survive in The Hollow, it’s all she knows anymore. At least here people don’t care that she is a byproduct of a white mother and a black father. And they certainly don’t care that her dad was a corrupt Austin cop. Here, she and her mother can almost forget the shame he brought upon them…until a man who clearly doesn’t belong shows up on her doorstep one night, asking questions.

Together, Noah and Gracie set out to uncover the truth about the Austin police department’s dark and messy past—but the scandal they uncover is bigger than they bargained for, and goes far higher up than they ever imagined.

Complex, gritty, sexy, and suspenseful, We Sold Our Souls solidifies K.A. Tucker’s reputation as one of today’s most talented new writers of romantic suspense.

*****Patty’s Review******

*****4.5 STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Publisher}

My stomach tightens as my mother’s voice fills my head, reminding me that it’s not just money that she wanted to give Abe’s daughter. She wanted to fix this. To give Gracie peace of mind. A coat of polish for the tarnished memory of her father. A chance to know a different truth.

KEEP HER SAFE was a mystery filled with nail-biting suspense. There is romance but this one is very low on steam. The plot is what makes this book insanely entertaining. The entire time reading this I was trying to figure out the truth and it was like being on a crazy roller coaster ride with no end in sight. Everyone appears to be a suspect, the only two people who I knew were innocent were Noah and Gracie, the Hero and Heroine. We get alternating POVs during the present between Noah and Gracie, and then we are given clues through alternating POVs from the past between Noah’s mother and Gracie’s deceased father. Each travel back in time brings us closer to the truth, but I didn’t see that jaw-dropping reveal at the end coming!!

Noah’s mother, who was the Chief of the Austin police department has just committed suicide. He’s devastated because it happened right after he had a disturbing chat with her while she was clearly intoxicated and in a bad way mentally. While meeting with his mother’s lawyer to go over her will, he gives Noah an envelope which contains a letter from his mother. The letter is brief. It instructs him to go to a hidden safe she had in their pantry and she asks him to take what’s in it to her old partner’s daughter who now lives in Tucson. Abe Wilkes and Noah’s mother used to be the best of friends and Abe was more of a father figure to Noah then his own dad. But something happened in the past that destroyed their friendship and whatever it was it had Noah’s mother turning to alcohol to numb her guilt and regret.

Noah takes the $98,000 and Abe’s gun holster, which is what was in the safe, and he heads out on a road trip for Tucson to deliver them to Gracie Wilkes. When he makes it to her home, he’s shocked to see she is living in a run-down trailer park. He’s also struck by what a stunning young woman she’s become. Noah shows up when he’s needed the most. Although their first encounter is extremely hostile since Gracie assumes he is one of her mother’s drug dealers, he turns out to be her hero when he saves her mother from their burning trailer. When he tries to give her the money, Gracie wants nothing to do with is as she believes all the reports of her father being a crooked cop who died in a drug bust gone wrong. Gracie is a very bitter young woman since she and her mother have lived a hard life since her father’s death.

When the FBI shows up questioning Gracie’s mom and then a box filled with old photos and newspaper clippings that her mom had been hiding resurfaces, Gracie starts to have hope that her father was wrongly accused. Noah battles internally over helping Gracie find the clues they need to prove her father’s innocence because he fears that it will result in tainting his mother’s reputation when the truth is revealed. Respect – An Infidelity Stand-alone Novel

“The making of a man”

From New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes a stand-alone novel, a spin-off from her beloved Infidelity series. With classic Aleatha Romig twists, turns, deceptions, and devotions, this new epic mafia love story/ thriller will delve into a world where family takes on new meaning, and even the inhabitants are suspicious of the next chapter.

“Standing at what I believe is the precipice of my life, I, Oren Demetri, was too young to understand that it wasn’t and too old to imagine that it couldn’t be.

The already hefty accumulation of my successes and failures, bravery and fears, and rewards and suffering, had brought me to this point. It was hard to contemplate the things I’d done, and yet in reality, I’d only begun to learn the possibilities.

I suppose that’s how it was for me at twenty-nine years of age on the brink of all I’d ever wanted without fully realizing the price I would pay. Yet in that moment, I knew there would be no cost too great or sacrifice I wouldn’t make. I had no idea how far-reaching that moment of self-discovery would be because as the congregation’s murmurs quieted, bleeding into silence and allowing the thump of my heart to be the only sound I heard, I was a man filled with love and adoration, emotions in stark contrast to those I needed in the world I’d built or the one I was about to enter.

Angelina Costello was my dream and now my reality. I’d worked diligently to move beyond the actuality of being a dockworker’s son to becoming a self-made, successful entrepreneur, all in an effort to earn the right to call her my own. I’d overcome servitude to others, collecting their paychecks and lowly praises, to become the one who signed the paychecks and offered the accolades when they were rightfully earned.

The world was my oyster and walking toward me on the arm of her uncle was my pearl. I’d found her amongst the empty shells life had offered. There was no need to pry open another possibility. Angelina was all I wanted. Yet my path was uncharted. There was more for me to earn, lose, and willingly give.

The top of that list was respect.”

This stand-alone novel may be read before or after reading the Infidelity series or on its own.

REVIEW – SEEK by Mia Sheridan

SYNOPSIS

Wealthy socialite Olivia Barton never imagined her fiancé would disappear on what was supposed to be a routine business trip. She’s even more heartbroken and confused when a hired private investigator tracks him half a world away, to a seaside town in Colombia. But the country has recently been ravaged by a massive earthquake and deadly tsunami, shutting down outside communication and making travel all but impossible. Still, Olivia is determined to make it to Colombia to find the answers she so desperately seeks. What she needs is a guide—a mercenary.

The man named Thomas arrives in shadows, an unmistakable air of danger about him, promising to help lead her through the ruined, crime-infested country. But when Thomas and Olivia find themselves fighting an undeniable attraction, danger takes on a whole new meaning. Then again, in the lush jungles of South America, all the rules are different and Thomas and Olivia are about to discover that sometimes the thing you seek, isn’t necessarily the thing you find.

Seek is a STANDALONE novel with a small, fun connection to the Sign of Love Collection

*****FOUR STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

That truth had finally made itself fully known last night as I’d given myself wholly and completely to another man—not just my body, but my heart, shared myself in a way I’d never shared myself before. A man who lived anywhere and everywhere, a man who wasn’t available to me, but a man I was in love with all the same.

SEEK is a fast paced, action packed and steamy romance. Olivia Barton is on a mission to find her fiancé who has been missing for nearly six months. There have been rumors that he’s hiding out in Colombia. Looking for answers and possibly closure, Olivia enlists the help of Thomas, a mercenary for hire and ex-Navy Seal, to be her guide and protector through the treacherous Columbian terrain.

They will face several dangerous criminals while on their journey and many times it seemed as though Olivia’s plan to find her fiancé was going to end up being a huge mistake. Somewhere along the way, the two end up having a passionate affair, but how can it lead to anything more when Olivia’s main reason for being in Columbia is to find her fiancé?

A bombshell is dropped and it wasn’t anything that I came close to predicting. For those of you who are die-hard fans of Mia Sheridan, she gives us a little treat in this story. We are reunited with one of her most beloved Heroes from one of her previous books!!

Here are my overall ratings on the book:

Heroes: 4.5
Heroine: 4

Angst: 4
Steam: 4
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 4

4 Stars!

-Life was a constant reminder that only the strong survived.

Olivia Barton is a beautiful, elegant woman living in Las Vegas. She was adopted as a child by a wealthy family, & has led a somewhat privileged life. She’s engaged to be married, and thinks she’s about to have everything she’s ever wanted. Then her fiancé Alec disappears, and she begins to question how well she actually knew him. She fears he had secrets, but she needed some answers, or she’d always wonder. Committed to fighting for him, or at least getting closure, Livvy decides she will head to the last place her PI tracked him to, a small oceanside town called Palomino, that’s on the Caribbean Coast in Columbia.

Livvy hires a former Navy SEAL named Thomas who is a mercenary/ soldier for hire, who mostly does contract work for the government. His job is to safely get her to Palomino, & help her locate her missing fiancée. She’s unfamiliar with the dangerous area full of crime, and doesn’t speak the language. Thomas will be her guide and protection in a foreign country.

Thomas initially thinks he’s going to be backpacking through the jungle with a prissy, city girl. He soon learns Livvy has a kind heart, and is stronger than she looks. He’s trying to keep things professional and focus on the job, but he’s extremely attracted to his client. He’s taken responsibility for her on this five day journey, and can’t afford for things to get personal.

Livvy is insanely attracted to her intense, gorgeous guide. Thomas is slowly opening up to her, and she’s seeing a new side to this tough, closed off man that she really likes. The sexual tension grows till they finally can’t fight it anymore. Everything suddenly changes between them as feelings develop, and real connections are made.

This was a fantastic story full of action, intrigue, secrets, lies, love, and explosive chemistry. There were lots of twists & turns, and it was an exciting, sexy read. Really enjoyed this one!

-“This night will always be ours.”

-This woman. The feel of her. The scent of her. I felt wild, completely untamed, shaking with a need I’d never known before. The need to claim.

-I was lost in him, lost in the joy of his taste, the calming scent of his skin. Safety. Goodness.

-I melted into him, my body, my heart.
